Re: [JAWS-Users] unable to add to cart

2018-05-21 Thread Blackwell, Clifford
For the most part, I have no problem with Amazon, but in the last week, I've
been unable to check a check box for one time purchases. I'm using the latest
JAWs, IE and Windows 7. Yesterday, for the first time, I was unable to
activate an add to cart button for an item I wished to purchase.

I've reported the check box issue to the Amazon Disability Help line. We'll
see if that helps.

Gerald,

The presence of variable will depend on what you are ordering. I selected a DIY
frame, and a combo list was presented with a style type to pick. But
regardless, I was not able to work the buttons after that.

But I did see a thread on the JFW list with a similar issue in selecting
something on the screen. Here is that solution:

To select the tick box with JAWS, simply press the bypass key, JAWS key+3 then
space bar. This will tick it.

Give that a try and let us know.

On Hollar.com, there are no variables. There are no elements other than the
quantity edit field which is set to 1 by default and the add to shopping
cart button. You enter the quantity of the item you want if if it is more
than 1 and click on the button to add it to your cart. But no keystroke
will activate it with JAWS or any other screen reader.

I'm speculating that in the case where you cannot press the "Add to Cart
Button" there is some other element (checkbox, combo box, editable combo
box, edit field) that needs to be used/selected before the button will
activate. For a simple example, if the quantity edit field is blank, then a
number needs first to be entered. In other cases, I've seen where a size or
a color choice must first be selected before the button can be activated.
There are so many variables in a simple shopping app that is dependent on
the item itself, that it's hard to pin down a specific problem related to
JAWS.

purchase items and in both of them I was unable to add the item to my cart.
I am so sick of this. I can look it up and find it, but then can't get
anything to work to add to the cart. I tried three browsers and none of them
worked. I know my jaws is old, jaws 14, but honestly shouldn't something
work? Any ideas are appreciated. I know homicide is out! Judy & Libby

Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS demo mode?

2017-09-29 Thread Blackwell, Clifford
Though there is probably not enough time to obtain one, you could use an
authorization dongle and use the version of JAWS loaded as a demo in as a fully
authorized version without the company having to pay for a full version.

I don't recall the cost, but you could call Freedom Scientific to find out if
that's feasible.

Can I just restart JAWS or will it be necessary to reboot the computer to get

[JAWS-Users] JAWS 2018 and Open Book

2017-08-31 Thread Blackwell, Clifford
Does anyone know if with the inclusion of the scanning features in JAWS 2018 if
VFO is intending to end support or development of Open Book? It has been quite
a while since there were any updates/improvements to Open Book and this new
feature set would seem to indicate a lack of interest in maintaining Open Book
as a separate product line.

If that is the case, does anyone know what OCR programs are being used in JAWS
2018 to perform the recognition and will there be ways to "tweek" the
performance as there is in Open Book?

It's an interesting release and future developments will be interesting.

My guess is it will need to be authorized as it might very well detect the
change in hardware. So far as a dongle goes, so long as it is in your system is
authorized. Pull it out and it might take a couple of minutes before it reverts
to demo mode.

Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS And Multiple Sound Devices

2017-07-05 Thread Blackwell, Clifford
If you can add a second sound card such as a usb sound card, the sound car
option under the utilities menu would do what you want. You would have to hook
up a seset of speakers to the second sound card, I presume that might be done
with a blue tooth transmitter. Hooked up to that second sound card.

Hi friends,

I normally use my laptop here connected to a Bose bluetooth speaker for when I
listen to music.
When JAWS uses this device, it is a bit choppy, i think due to the fact that it
is transmitting the speach to the Bluetooth device and when a acket is sent, it
switches off and has to re-start with the new sound.
Is there a way with JAWS that I can tell it to use a different sound device
e.g. use the laptop to play my music through the Bluetooth speaker and have
JAWS runnig through the internal sound card.

Many thanks in anticipation for any help.

Re: [JAWS-Users] email Verizon problem

2017-06-28 Thread Blackwell, Clifford
With the switch to AOL for servicing Verizon emails, their spam filters have
gotten very messed up. I was having great difficulty with this about ten days
ago. I had the person to whom I was trying to send email to complete the
Verizon/AOL White List form, usually there's a link in the bounced emal notice.
My friend ultimately had to contact Verizon/AOL and got someone to fix all the
filters.

Good luck.

I am guessing that you are using Gmail in the HTML view. Many of the Gmail
instructions assume that you are using Standard view, which does not work as
well for screen reader users. I have done what you are trying to do using
standard view. It's sometimes not easy, but with determination, it can be done.
When you are done deleting the messages, just switch back to HTML view.

[JAWS-Users] some Gmail function questions

2017-06-06 Thread Blackwell, Clifford
I'm using a Windows 7 computer with the latest version of JAWS 16 and IE 11. I
want to delete large groups of emails from my In Box and found instructions for
doing so on Google. However, I'm having difficulty finding the options that
the article says I should find.

First, there seems to be an option to turn on keyboard short cuts in the
Settings menu, but when I open the Settings menu, I don't find that option.
Where is it? Can I not find it because I'm using IE instead of Chrome?

When trying to delete a batch of message, it says to type in the name of the
messages in the upper Search field. I can do that, It then says to check a
select box. I can find a select button but no check box. Once that is
checked, there's supposed to be a way to select all the messages. I can't find
that option.

Once that is selected, there is supposed to be a delete button at the top of
the page. Again, I can't seem to find that.

It has only just occurred to me that this might go better in Chrome, but
failing that, any suggestions on how I can better navigate Gmail with JAWS?

Thanks for your help.

Good morning everyone,
I am having difficulty entering payment information at the National
Braille Press site at www.nbp.org and would appreciate any assistance.
Using latest version of JAWS and IE with Windows 10, the payment
screen shows what appears to be a graphic with the text of the card
type. I am unable to check the correct graphic by any of the usual
ways--pressing enter or the spacebar or shift-F10. Can anyone
replicate this and/or suggest what to try? have used this site
successfully many times with JAWS 12 and IE 9 so do not think the
problem is with the page itself or even JAWS necessarily. I expect
this is a simple fix too, smile, but caffeine hasn't really kicked in
either. Tia.

To each their own. I used the weather Research It feature daily since it
became available. The temperature updated more frequently, so in summer if I
needed to go somewhere at 4 in the afternoon it was easy to see if it was still
115 degrees, sunny, cloudy, possible storm. Each morning I used it to check
the morning temperature before leaving home and the forecast for the day to
determine if I needed a jacket, to dress in warmer or cooler clothing.

I seldom use other features of that program but weather I used daily for years.

I can go elsewhere, of course but this loaded fast and was accurate for a daily
forecast, have seldom been interested in hourly forecasts unless there is a
major storm and I know how to find them if I want them.

Just my take on the issue.

The second result is for the Weather Channel, an IBM company. For my region, it

If I were to jump on my soap box now, I'd ask why anyone would rely on the

[JAWS-Users] Windows 7 to Windows 10 conversion and JAWS

2016-07-22 Thread Blackwell, Clifford
I recall some discussion about what was necessary to get JAWS up and running
when transitioning from Windows 7 to Windows 10. I'm in the process of
upgrading a Windows 7 laptop to Windows 10. Currently, I have JAWS 16 on the
Windows 7 machine and I know to upgrade that to the current build of JAWS 17,
but do I need to do something with authorizations or removing JAWS and
reinstalling it? I don't remember the advice given earlier.

Thanks for your help.

[JAWS-Users] automatic paragraph numbering

2016-06-20 Thread Blackwell, Clifford
I'm using an XP computer, with Jaws 14 and Word 2007. How do I turn off
automatic paragraph numbering in Word using the ribbons? Would it be better to
use the JAWS custom menus instead? If possible, I'd like to do it with the
ribbons to get used to them.

Thanks for any help.

Every time I try to access the regular Amazon.com site using IE 11 with JAWS 16
and Windows 7, I am taken directly to the mobile Amazon.com site instead. I
have tried deleting all browsing history on the IE 11 Tools menu, but the
Amazon tracking cookies are apparently not being deleted because when I close
IE 11 and relaunch it and then visit Amazon.com again, I am still being taken
to the mobile site instead of the regular site. What must I do to specifically
delete the Amazon tracking cookies that are preventing me from accessing the

Re: [JAWS-Users] how do you stop start up programs from running

2015-09-15 Thread Blackwell, Clifford
I don't know how to get it back other than to make a change in the start up
page and restart the computer. The message has a check box for not showing the
message again on regular start up. Perhaps you checked that and it's bowing to
your wishes? I think if you change the state of something on the Start Up Page
and then restart, you'll get the message until you check the Don't Show This to

Re: [JAWS-Users] Windows Media Center and Windows 10

2015-06-23 Thread Blackwell, Clifford
I understand that Microsoft will be replacing Media Center, but only to a
limited extent. There will be some sort of DVD playing program included in
Windows 10. I haven't heard of any other truly accessible programs for
watching tv and recording programs though. Perhaps when Windows 10 comes out
tv card makers will be forced to make their native software more user
friendly/accessible.

Hi

When the get windows 10 thing finally showed up in my system tray, I ran the
check your PC on a Windows 7 PC. Besides telling me that some older versions
of JAWS that are installed might not run under Windows 10, it told me that
Windows Media Center would be uninstalled and that it could not be reinstalled
in Windows 10. I have used Windows Media center with a TV card on my computer
to watch and record live TV for quite a while. So does anyone know of another
program that can be used to watch and/or record live TV shows in Windows 10?
Hopefully, there is an alternative that is more JAWS friendly than Windows
Media center, or at least as accessible with JAWS as Windows Media center is,
which is not much

Thanks for any suggestions.

The free version does not expire. It might need updating, but it remains free.
It sounds as if you're using a trial copy of the paid version. If that's the
case, you can decide to purchase the pro version, price will depend upon where
and what you purchase, or you can uninstall the trial version and install the
free version.

If you buy a single user license, it good for one computer.

The free version is apparently about ready to expire, which means I'm going to

Does anyone know what the purchase price is? Also, if you purchase it for use
on one computer, can you use it on another, or must a separate license be

If continuing to use Malwarebytes proves to be too expensive, I may consider
switching to something like adwCleaner.

Thanks for any advice.

It seems to me that if you have Automatic Updates set to download and install,
then Windows 10 will be downloaded.
However, this is an optional update, so you may be given the choice of
installing or not.
Because I like to know what is being installed on my systems, I have Automatic
Updates, set to notify me of updates, but let me choose when to download and
install them.
Windows 10 is a 3gb download, so I want to know when it is being downloaded.
For more specific information, folks should consult the Microsoft website about
Windows 10.

I use the caps lock for my jaws key so that's not the problem. But is there
some key combination I can utilize to invoke insert mode?

And who the heck thought this new keyboard design was a good idea? Why do I

All suggestions welcome. I'm stuck with this laptop for reasons I won't go

Thanks in advance.

Re: [JAWS-Users] MalwareBytes Pro Myth and Anti-Virus Recommendations

2015-03-30 Thread Blackwell, Clifford
Just one word in defense. I wasn't recommending Malware Byite pro as an anti
virus program. I was merely clarifying that it's protection is real time
rather than an after the fact as it is in the free version. I thought I was
indicating that it should be run in conjunction with an antivirus program and
wouldn't be incompatible with that.

As for the accessibility, I can't/won't really comment on that. It is, to some
extent, in the eyes of the user.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] MalwareBytes Pro Myth and Anti-Virus Recommendations

Just a note on the anti-virus discussion.

I think it was yesterday that possibly Cliff recommended using malwarebytes
Professional as an anti-virus program.

Two points on this:
First, unless the latest iteration of malwarebytes has improved accessibility,
I don't like its interface. They completely broke accessibility in version
2.0, they did improve it in 2.0.4 but you have to go through hoops to view the
log of what it proposes to delete. I don't want it recognizing a program I use
as a PUP and then deleting or quarantining it. You have to export the log to
notepad in order to see it. Not good last time I used that.

Second, MalwareBytes Pro recognizes a lot of zero-day exploits, but it is not,
as I understand it, intended as a substitute for an anti-virus program. Their
spokesperson stated as such in a Lifehacker article, where he pointed out that
it wasn't aiming at the traditional anti-virus market. See

http://lifehacker.com/the-difference-between-antivirus-and-anti-malware-and-1176942277

As for AVG, it really isn't much better than MSSE. I'll link to an article
which has a link to the AV Comparatives test of some of the anti-virus
programs.

Their top-rated anti-virus programs are Avast! and Bit-Defender. I haven't
used Avast in awhile so can't comment on its accessibility, but it had a more
complex layout. Their second-ratedd product, Bit Defender, scored nearly as
highly for basic anti-virus protection but doesn't have all the bells and
whistles that Avast had. I haven't evaluated Bit Defender in several years, so
I don't know if the program is accessible. I used to get my jollies evaluating
different AV programs for accessibility, but now that some of them are more
complicated to uninstall and I don't always have a pair of eyes to go into safe
mode or click a button with the mouse within thirty seconds...well, you get the
picture.

Here's the link to the article:
http://lifehacker.com/5865356/the-best-antivirus-app-for-windows

Take my advice, I don't use it anyway.

The free version of Malware Bytes does not provide real time protection, but

I would assume you could get the process started by using Narrato which, in
Windows 8.1, is supposed to be easier to work with than in previous versions of
Windows.r

Thank you for a more in-depth description of the process. Imagine me wondering
how I would navigate to a web page, download a file to give my tablet speech
without having any in the first place. If I could do that myself then you folks
would be looking for another JAWS list because it would be of no further use to
me.

So my thoughts that there would be no way at all a blind person could do it
themselves is basicly confirmed. I figure you have to place an ILM key on it as
well, he stated hoping for confirmation on that as well.

Hello, someone else already described an option. Someone sighted,
helped me do it. I did download the program and put the file on a SD card and
hooked it up to the tablet and installed through this process.
You might also turn off the user account settings, where you have to give
permission to install new programs. My friend found where to do this and he
did it. I do not recall how he did it.

Hi first I do use windows 8.1.1 and I find two things that help me and yes I
use JAWS 16.

One first using the desk top I have put the programs on it that I use all the
time.

Two I have put the most important ones on the task bar and use windows 1 up to
windows 9 to get the ones and I put them in order of importants this makes it
easy.

I always have email in one and getting my documents there was hard but it is in
two and then in three is Firefox and on and on.

I love that I can open them in anywhere I am so in email I can open new word
document or go anywhere else and go back by hitting email one again or use alt
tab.

I put on desk top things that are only used less often.

I find that tab or shift tab is very helpful in some areas.

If you have any questions ask for information and I will try to answer. One
more thing that I use a lot is application key or on lap top computer shift
f10. This is one of the areas you will find things to help you.

You can use an external synthesizer or you can designate Jaws to use your
onboard synthesizer. When you plug in your turntable, it is becoming the
default synthesizer.. If you designate Jaws to use the onboard synthesizer,
not the default synthesizer, it should keep speaking when you plug in the

the one built into your computer, likely a Real Tech.

I think what Dave is describing is on certain web pages such as ESPN or CNN,
there is an audio of a story they are featuring running when you enter the web

the page and the audio can make finding the print story difficult with a screen

 Hi;

I am using IE 11 and Jaws 15 on a w7 computer. When I go to a news
 item on
many sites I have to listen to some talking head interviewing
 someone
before I can read the text of the news item. Some of the times the
interview has little or nothing to do with the subject of the article.
 Is
there some way to stop this annoyance??

 All help appreciated.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Sending an email to a phone number

2014-01-31 Thread Blackwell, Clifford
You type in the 10 digit phone number where the name would go and then
depending on the phone carrier, you type in the address after the at sign.
For example, to send a text from your computer to a Verizon phone it would look
like this: 551...@vtext.com

You can Google a list of the texting numbers for different carriers.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Music transfer?

2013-04-29 Thread Blackwell, Clifford
Generally, you'll need to rip the tracks from your cd to your hard drive and
then transfer them to your mp3 player. What programs to use will partially
depend upon the brand of your mp3 player. If an Apple device, you'll most
likely need to use iTunes which is accessible with JAWS. If a non'Apple brand,
you can use a program like CDEX to rip the tracks to your hard drive and then
use either a copy and poaste process to move the tracks to your player or
perhaps the player's proprietary software.

In this explanation rip is synonymous with your words burn to the hard drive.

I hope that I haven't lost these recordings as I have changed around PC's and

Hi friends,

does anyone know an application that works with JAWS that will allow me to
convert .WTV files recorded from Microsoft Windows Media Centre to another
format?
It seems that if you copy them from the machine that they were originally
recorded on, the right click menu to convert them to .DVR-MS is disabled.
I hope that I haven't lost these recordings as I have changed around PC's and
tuners and there is a lot of them and the right click option seems to have gone.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Controlling how alt+tab works

2012-10-29 Thread Blackwell, Clifford
An inelegant solution is to alt/tab to the first window you want and allfocus
to fall on that window. Then alt/tab to the other window you want to toggle
between without focusing on the interim windows. Allow focus to fall on the
second window.. This essentially creates this pairing as the last two windows
you opened and will be the first two to come up when alt/tab-ing. You have to
focus on the window in order to not continue in the chain of open windows.

Hi Dave, You can also find a line above the email that says the it is in html

difficult to suppress the message. I will have to do more digging. When I run
a search for the message in the enu folder I get nothing which probably
confirms that jaws is actually reading the information rather than supplying
the message. I will have to capture the output and see if it is in there.

[JAWS-Users] voice profile problem

2012-10-17 Thread Blackwell, Clifford
I was trying to creat a new voice profile in the adjust voice profile
control, but I couldn't get what I was trying to do to stick. This is in Jaws
14 beta 2 on a Windows 7 64 bit computer.

I'd like to set the pc voice to an Eloquence voice and then several other
specific voices i.e. Tutorial and Help, JAWS cursor and menu voices to
Vocalizer voices. I set each perameter and hit apply and move on to the next
perameter and set it until I'm done and hit ok. I've named my new voice
profile and I'm adjusting within the new profile.

However, when I get done after having hit ok, everything simply uses the last
synthesizer I was working with and the punctuation choice seems to always go
back to most or all.

Can I use different synthesizers in the same profile and how do I do it?

Your help will be appreciated.

To download/listen at other than the scheduled time, you will need to wait for
them to post the show to the archive. However, to bring this into a Jaws
topic, I'm not sure how to access the live stream of the show with Jaws. I
presume that it is configured to be accessible with Jaws and other screen

Re: [JAWS-Users] help with jaws and burnaware

You can't copy the contents to the clipboard. Either you must find a program
that will create and burn a copy or you must rip the tracks from the source cd
to your hard drive. Once ripped to the hard drive, you can burn them to a new
disk.

If you're using Burn Aware, select the make an ISO image option and once that
is made, burn that to your new disk.

 Try,

Select and copy the songs you wish to add,
 Now open burnaware,
 Alt+c/m
Here you can choose audio CD,
 Enter,
Now tab to the listview, and paste.
 Now, ctrl+b=burn.

Re: [JAWS-Users] converting MP3 files to WAV files

2012-03-27 Thread Blackwell, Clifford
I'm coming in late on this topic so I apologize if these suggestion have
already been made.

If you right click on an .mp3 file and arrow down to convert sound file, the
process is fairly simple. Also conversion of files between .mp3 and .wav can
be done in CDEX. Both options are free.

NCH also has a program called Switch which I think has a free version. That
one is a bit more problematic because of some labeling issues in the program.
However, with a little playing around, it is workable also.

5, Shift tab to find the file you want to convert
6, After you find the file tab to open, or I just press enter on the file
name, after you tab to file name
7, Tab to input, and it will say the format name of your file
8, Tab to output, and arrow down to what format you want
9, Tab to convert, press the space bar
Now it will take you to another page, and wait a little
10, Arrow down to download your file, and it will bring up a dialog box to

Re: [JAWS-Users] adobe flash player, general question?

2012-02-08 Thread Blackwell, Clifford
Many web sites need the flash play in order to work. If you don't have the
updated flash player, you may experience problems or even failures on certain
sites.

The Ninite.com web site does a good job of fully updating Adobe products and it
is very Jaws friendly. You might want to check it out if you continue to have
difficulties with updating flash.

It is important to note that there are really two different flash players and
they both occasionally need updating. There is yet a different version if you
use Fire Fox.

Ninite.com has made updating these products easier and less problematic for me.

Jaws 13 and I'd like to get it working with my old Dectalk Acess 32 that is
authorized for Jaws. So far, I've had no luck. Any suggestions of how/what
I need to do to make this work?

First, I have to send the program as an attachment and the email lists do
not allow attachments.

This is why I said I'd send it to you directly if I have your email address.

There is no charge for this and I don't think it's brand new. I don't even
remember where I got it; I think it was from one of the lists.

so, send me your email address and I'll get it off to you. You can then
send it to anyone you wish to.

 Dear MIss Ariana,

I am sure more than I are intested in a sapi version of DECTAlk. I know
that a Miss Margret on here especially would love it as she has mentioned
her frustration of DECTalk Access32 not working with anything higher than
jaws 10. IN fact, this is of interst beyond this jaws list as a sapi
version of DECTAlk would work not only with jaws but anything that
supported sapi. I know nvda users would love to have another light-weight
but better sounding synth to use with nvda.

I had heard about a sapi version being worked on but not of it having been
 released.

so why not just post the homepage of the program or is it being sold by GW
Micro as DECTalk Access used to be?

Also the price tag would be intersting to know.

Anyway, I think we all would benefit from the information and not just me.
Maybe this shiny new DECTalk was released just in time for Christmas?

 Thanks for any Information!

Eagerly and curiously awaiting your reply!

 Doris

Show Calendar In Vista

If you use the Windows Vista calendar, there is a keyboard shortcut that is
convenient and easy to use. To show just the date, press the Windows and the
B keys, and then the left arrow key. To show the full calendar, press the
Windows and the B keys, the left arrow key, and then ENTER.

  Daily Term:
launch

Although you can use the term launch in several different computer-related
contexts, it nearly always refers to starting a process. Starting a piece of
computer software commonly is called launching the software; in this
instance, launch is synonymous with run or execute. For example, most OSes
(operating systems) launch automatically when you turn on your computer.

It is because Google is making this page too fancy. Yes the Instant
Search screws things up. Unfortunately, the link to turn Instant Search
off only applies to the current session. When you search again, it is
turned back on! They were also hiding the edit box initially, which
caused problems for screen readers. I think they did away with that.

I have found that getting out of Forms Mode and refreshing the page
usually solves the problem of the typed text not appearing in the edit
box. This can be accomplished by hitting the Escape key twice. Now,
you may need to press e to find the edit box again. If you do not have
Forms Mode set to automatic, press the Space bar to enter Forms Mode.

I would rather Google remember that I do not want Instant Search. They
should also keep the interface simple!

[JAWS-Users] JAWS and Lexis/Nexis

creating a new folder for either your email or the work email and then creating

I'm not sure if you can create separate accounts in Outlook 2003 as you can in

Well, I can tell you a few things:

if you have a num pad

fn+num pad plus and minus are your volume up and down,

fn+numpad star, which basically is the same key used for a right mouse
button in jfw, is your mute toggle on and off

fn+F7 and fn+F8 are your screen brightness

Those're the only ones at this point that I know of.

I'll have to try your fn+F3.

I didn't know about that but if that works, that would be awesome!

Hi

I agree with you, just wondering if you had had any luck with reading HP's
software, to me it us just not accessible with jaws. Like you I have just
purchased an HP laptop with same spec as yu mention.

There are hot keys for function key which I am unable to find out, I know
that funtion key f3 opens internet explorer but I am unable to read
anything on the hp shortcuts page to find out what they are, have you had
 any luck in this respect?

Another problem I have is a reminder window popping up, when I had a pair
of eyes hear it was reminding me to create a set of recovery discs which I
did but I dont have a pair of eyes now and the reminder window has started
to pop up again, dont know if it is the same reminder and that I have to
check the box to not show this message again or if there something that I
should be doing. Latest jaws will not touch this reminder window, I cannot
virtualise the window or use the jaws cursor anything. any ideas if this
window can be read at all?

I would not buy anything else other Hp because I have used them in the
past and had no trouble at all, guess I have been lucky but their software
is not accessible, but I have most of it disabled anyway.

So basically my question is any ideas if it is possible to read these pop
up windows which I am assuming ar HP based and are not accessible with
jaws? and does anyone out there have a list of the function key shortcuts
 with HP?

 Appreciate any advice

 Graham

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Real Speak voices question

OK, before anyone asks, let me throw this ball out of the way first.
Yes, I am aware of the solo direct voices. I know also how to install
'em, but that isn't the point, in this case.

I am trying to install my sapi 5 version of the Ral Speak voices. I not
only wanna be able to use these with jfw, but I got some other programs
like Speak-on, as well as K1000, Kitchen's Inc games, etc. which are self
voicing that I wanna use them with. I can't do that with the solo direct
voices as they use their own propriatary module/driver/dll libraries.
Bottom line, it won't work. Anyway, so here is my question to you pc
geeks out there like myself. I just got an hp laptop last Wednesday.
It's running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit Edition. So my question is,
when I ran the installer for the real speak voices, it said they'd not
run on a 64 bit OS. So, having said that, this leads me to actually two
 questions.

The first question which probably is the obvious is: is there a way to
get around this, so that I can install the sapi version, and if not, can
I get a 64 bit version from fs of the old sapi formatted installer.

My second question is, maybe I'm completely all wet here, but I was under
the impression that anything 32 bit
architect would run on a 64 bit OS. Now, granted, I know for a fact! you
can't run a 64 bit OS on a 32 bit only capable motherboard, nor, can you
run x64 programs on a 32 bit OS. That's obvious. But I thought the
 annalogy worked like this:

Say you have a 4 lane highway. OK, you may wind up only driving down 2!
of those lanes, but, the point is, you can! do it. You're not taking
over the whole highway, but, you're still able to drive down it. I hear
64 bit worked much the same way. You can! run 64 bit apps, or! 32 bit
 apps on 64 bit

architect, but, on the other hand, don't try running 64 bit on a 32 bit
only capable OS/hardware system. am I not understanding this whole 32/64
bit thing correctly? Actually, I don't even get the difference, really
per sey. I know better graffics, as if that really matters to me, and
faster speed, supposedly, but I've honestly not seen much speed
difference between my old 32 bit xp machine and this 64 bit win7 machine.

ideally that will detect pauses and split based on when a pause occurs
so for example if i'm converting it in to half hour sections and there's

that's accessible? I don't mind using the jaws curser.

Re: [JAWS-Users] desktop

2010-03-04 Thread Blackwell, Clifford
Here's something else to try for the my required ikons. This works in XP but I
don't know about other versions. Windows stores your program and ikonsin one
of two desktop files in either All Users or the your name user file in the
Document and Settings folder. You can cut and paste the files from one
Destktop folder to the other and then do a sort by name in the way David
describes. The fact that programs sort into either of those folders is one
reason why the sort by name doesn't get all the available files.

It would be interesting to know if this works in Vista or Windows 7.

Interesting, I stand corrected. Now I have to wonder why Microsoft would
change something so minor as that. It works in XP so it seemed logical
 that
is how it works everywhere, oh more is the pity.

 Hello Kimsan;
the steps given won't work with windows 7.

 using windows 7, you first need to;

ctrl+spacebar, to unselect the desktop icon which is selected.
 no? pressing f5 doesn't work.
 next, press, the applications key,
now, you can, press the letter O, to sort by name, or, down arrow to other
 choices.

Alphabetizing your desktop is done as follows:

 1. Focus on your desktop.
 2. Press your F5 key once.
 3. Hit your applications key.
 4. Hit the letter I.
 5. Hit the letter N.

 That's it boys and girls.

 Hi,

How would I set up my desktop in a listview?

I'm using windows seven, 64 bit machine and jfw 11.

Also is it possible to arrange the ICONS in alphabetical order from top
 to
 bottom?

So is anybody out there to answer my question?
