They dropped support for Linux years ago - while it was still
popular enough that some users "required" it.

I have very little - er, really _nothing_ - good to say about
Flash.

Re: [MBZ] OT: HOAs and patina

2019-07-08 Thread Dan Penoff via Mercedes
Yeah, we’re a “nice” board. Pretty laid back and approachable.

What’s bad is that because HOA and condo boards are horribly inconsistent, the
legislature has gotten involved here. That means that we have to enforce by the
book, by the rule, no exceptions. Conversely, if it’s not clearly specified in
the community standards (covenants) we can’t deny it, unless it’s a zoning or
conflict with County ordinances.

It’s forced us to rewrite our community standards to go into great detail on
damned near everything we can think of, since if we leave anything out it’s
fair game and we can’t do squat about it.

Sorry.

I know of some communities around here that don’t allow trucks in the driveway,
period, but they’re usually pretty high end properties. Heck, the neighborhood

Non-operable, flat tires etc is what the truck owner thinks he has a HOA to get
rid of.

Here's another truck story, coincidentally a 1965 Ford, new paint, his parents
get the garage, kid's collector truck sits outside. HOA trustee likes the

The "Your message to Mercedes awaits moderator approval" email said:

The reason it is being held:

Either the message will get posted to the list, or you will receive

I wouldn’t classify that as damage.

Damn, that’s a tough HOA. Worse thing we do is bust people for
non-operable/non-registered cars, and that’s only of they’re crappy looking or
have obvious issues like flat tires.

There’s a house up near one of the entrances to our neighborhood that has a
Mustang in the driveway that’s clearly not moved for at least a year. No plate,
but otherwise to the average observer it would just look like a car parked in
someone’e driveway.

I suggested that they back the car in so the lack of a license plate isn’t
visible.

They haven’t, so if someone gets their nose out of joint or they piss off a
neighbor the HOA won’t have a choice but to cite them.

Copper tube has the bad habit of work hardening, then cracking, in
vibration applications... Diesel engines vibrate Oil lines to/from
turbo cracking would cause loss of engine oil pressure not a happy
event.

[MBZ] OT: HOAs and patina

2019-07-08 Thread Mitch Haley via Mercedes
Let's assume your HOA covenants ban possession of motor vehicles with
'moderately severe body damage'.

Questions:
1. Is that phrase too vague to be enforceable?
2. If it's enforceable, is it considered an adhesive contract that must be
interpreted to favor the accused homeowner to any extent in which it is
considered vague?

Now let's assume that one of your vehicles has an original 1965 paint job, and
might be described as 'patina', or as 'moderately severe paint damage', but
it's a straight rustfree example with zero body damage.
And let's say your HOA has sued you for $3k in violation fees and asked the
court for permission to foreclose on your home...

How many of us have old MBZ with clearcoat leprosy?
Is that a danger if you have a HOA?

Turbo supply lines tend to be hard steel of some sort.

For Randy: We don't need flex line because one end of the rigid line is solidly
attached to the engine, and the other end is solidly attached to the turbo
which is solidly attached to the engine.

Copper tube has the bad habit of work hardening, then cracking, in
vibration applications... Diesel engines vibrate Oil lines to/from
turbo cracking would cause loss of engine oil pressure not a happy
event.

Re: [MBZ] AC troubleshooting help for Floyd

2019-07-08 Thread Buggered Benzmail via Mercedes
Yeah thanks. I did that the other day and got some codes which really didn’t
make sense. I need to put the gauges on, I put a can with a pressure gauge on
the other day and it looked like it was OK but the diagnostic suggested the
refrigerant pressure was low.

Thing is it will blow cold sometimes for quite awhile, sometimes for a few
seconds, most of the time not at all. Maybe one of the codes relates to that
behavior though I have not seen anything in the forums that explicitly relates
to these codes or behavior.

The auction says:

Modifications to the two-door body were performed by Oz Kustoms and
included a 2.5″ roof chop, shaving the badges and door handles,
flaring the rocker panels, and lowering the rear wheel arches. The
paint scheme was designed and applied by Gene Winfield and features
House of Kolor Kandy Pearl Copper, Cinnamon, and Kandy Root Beer hues
blended into White Pearl side stripes. A grille with a floating chrome
bar was fabricated by Greg Westbury of Concord, California, who also
reshaped the bumpers, added chrome bullets to the taillights, and
installed Lucas-style headlamps. Chrome fender peak strips were added
by Frank De Rosa Customs.

Oz Kustoms was tasked with chassis modifications including
modification of the frame members to accommodate lowering of the
suspension on airbags. Chrome wire 15″ wheels feature spinner hubcaps
and are mounted with Coker Classic Broadway whitewall tires all
around.

The cabin is trimmed in white biscuit-quilted and tuck and roll
leatherette featuring copper piping and mohair accents. The
transmission tunnel was raised to accommodate the raised driveshaft
resulting from the other chassis modifications. Interior work was
performed by Divine’s Custom Interiors in Martinez, California, with
the same patterns carried into the trunk.

So the question for you is, "Why?"

I think I would rather have

https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1929-packard-626-convertible-coupe/

or even

https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1967-bond-equipe-4s/,

which, with 1:39 left to go, is being shown little love at $1500.

10 mm = 0.3937 inch

  3/8 inch = 0.3750 inch

So, the 3/8 inch tubing is 18.7 thousandths of an inch small in diameter.

You could wrap it with a single turn of 9 mil (0.009") shim stock.

Or, you could wrap it with 9 turns of 1 mil (0.001") shim stock -- which
will be much easier to handle.

Me too. Truly amazing restoration that must have cost over $20k. Stunning
car but not particularly customized - the engine is original. It has the
semiautomatic (slushomatic) transmission, like my two 1950 DeSotos, making
it impossible to stall.

Back before the 617.951, Reeves Callaway came out with a 240D turbo kit.
One of the magazines, I think Motor Trend, tested it.
It was noticeably slower than a 300SD.
I can't remember how it compared to a NA 300D, but it'd handily beat a non
turbo 240D

Ah, here it is, Motor Trend, 1983.
I probably still have that issue in a box somewhere, I had a subscription in
1983 and I can remember reading that article when it came in the mail.
So the article I read was AFTER the 617.951, and the 300SD they compared it to
was a W126.
0-60 in the 12s for the SD, 15s for the 240DT

If they're tapered cups of a known diameter, like

all you need is a hole saw.

Some guy was posting pictures of an intake manifold with a turbo mounted in it.
Not sure what it was for, but it looked hopped up.

Maybe it’s for a 240D. Heh. I want to see that video.
