Jacked up the spring link until even with the other side (ready to drive) and
then tightened up the links.

My concern with both methods is getting the links tightened up in "ready to

That said, the first option would probably be my choice.

Do you mean "reinstall TO fresh media"?

A new SSD is cheap compared to buying a whole new PC. Maybe his system can

Just did it, worked perfectly. Nice, I've got win 10 using 64 but and

Are you trying a clean install, or upgrade with keeping your files / data etc.?

Not very likely. I'm retired from Navy Reserve now. Retired from active duty
would be called before me. Army did that for the surge back in 2008, Navy did
not being back any retired that I know of, although they can always make
exceptions for "by name" recall if someone has a needed skill. They recalled a
bunch of retired folks when Reagan brought the battleships back out of
mothballs, for instance. There were no Gunner's Mates left who knew how to

[MBZ] OT best data recovery tool?

2020-01-04 Thread Max Dillon via Mercedes

Well I messed up and created the win 10 installation tool on my external hard
drive that I also use for backing up data.

Creating the installation tool has over written about 6 GB on the drive. There
were several hundred GB of data, so much of that is still there, but now hidden.

Can anyone recommend a date recovery tool for Windows, to find and restore as
many files as possible?

So when are you going to buy a plane? You could then fly yourself to the
chowda-Q, fly for work and write that off, fly Tin Man or Clay around to
collect cars for you.

Local story yesterday or day before, small plane crashed, so injuries. Plane
came down in some big trees, but had a parachute. Get a plane with a parachute
built in!

SWMBO and SWMBette wanted to go to Folly Beach tonight, about 45 minutes drive
to a Redneck Riviera. We drove out to arrive about five minutes to midnight,
watched the Flip Flop Drop (think giant flip flops made from Christmas tree
lights, suspended then slowly dropped from a ladder fire truck). Escaped as
quickly as we arrived (parked illegally on a sidewalk right up close to the
action, made for an easy get away), popped some bubbly once we got back to the
hacienda. In, out, and nobody got hurt.

Re: [MBZ] OT: End of the Nuke Era in Switzerland

2019-12-28 Thread Max Dillon via Mercedes

Craig, this reminds me of how Marshall Booth would challenge anyone to
demonstrate evidence from a repeatable experiment, when they claimed to know
how to improve on what the MB engineers had wrought. Example: installing a K
air filter on a 240D. Marshall's response: time several 0 to 60 runs with the
factory air filter, remove it and retest the 0 to 60 run, and report back on
how much faster the car performed without the factory air filter. I don't
recall that anyone was able to improve performance.

I recently saw an analysis that solar installations north of the 35th parallel
were a net CO2 loss, when all the CO2 emitted during production and
installation were compared to the same power provided by coal or one of the
other fossil fuels. In other words, installing solar panels to replace

The SPDT function seems to be done mechanically in the base. I haven't taken
one apart yet, but I surmise that the solenoid moves a rod that has two valve
seats, which are opposed so that only one can be open at a time.

The part is the entire assembly. Only the circulation pump is available as a

Yes, different phones are capable of different bands, so you need to compare
the carriers bands to your phones capabilities. That's one reason I moved to

Me too. Colleague at work did the free upgrade, then swapped in a new hard

Yes, I was also forgetting that one.

Any rubber mounts / bushings / flex discs that are older than ten years are
suspect according to the late Dr Marshall Booth.

Rubber mount for differential?

Maybe start with engine mounts and then replace every piece of rubber back to
the differential mounts, if your budget allows.

Re: [MBZ] 1980 300SD Drive train vibration

2019-12-11 Thread Max Dillon via Mercedes

That's a good start point, and usually the solution. Start with simple / cheap
known wear items.

Are the boots on the half axles still intact? If they've failed, time to
replace those.

The U-joints can get stiff / notchy with time, and I understand a good mechanic
can feel the movement when they are off the car, and ID a bad u-joint.

I have most of the parts, but there are some key bits that were sold off, like

Re: [MBZ] OT - Roomba

2019-12-09 Thread Max Dillon via Mercedes

We bought one years ago, clone of some type. Useless. Bin is small, work
quality is terrible, and usually it would fail to park on the charger so the
battery world die and the programming would fail, so in order to get it going
again was a pain. Someone else already said you've got to keep the floors
clear, that doesn't happen magically, and once the floors are clear, I can
vacuum a room in minutes and achieve a far higher quality of work.

The basic issue is physics. A small slow moving battery operated machine simply
doesn't have the power of a corded vacuum, doesn't have the sensors (eyes and
ears) to determine if the job is done right, and cannot overcome simple
obstacles (Jimmy put your toys away now or I'm putting them out on the street
curb for the kids in the neighborhood!).

They are a curiosity, not a real tool.

If you can get a free in-home trial period, probably will only take a few days
or a week to see if the machine is right or not.

[MBZ] Decent mileage

Last week I drove my new '95 E300 about 1600 miles. First two tanks returned 32
mpg, the last tank was 36.9 mpg, but only 284 miles. Overall average was about
32.8.

This was mostly driving in cold weather, with a small amount of city traffic

That's pretty funny. Once I chanced upon a grouse hen with her brood of chicks,
and caught one of the chicks. Momma didn't like that, and came back at me to
get her chick. I had the chick cupped between both hands, it was peeping away,
momma was clucking and threatening me, but couldn't do much. I was teenager,
much to big for her to harm me. After a few seconds I let the chick go, and she
chased it over to the rest of the brood and we went our separate ways.
