Vertical orientation sensor. Sure it's a plus, but to be honest I wish I could switch it off on the 1D. There are times when I would like to see the pic on the LCD on the back in 'full frame' view, instead of rotated to the height of the shortest dimension (for framing assessment etc). Ideally, it would mark the pic as being rotated which ever way, but display in the camera as non-rotated. This make sense? Never seen the point of it, personally. It only takes me a few seconds to rotate several hundred exposures en masse in Bridge, or a moment one at a time when I'm reviewing them on the light table. If they do it, I hope that it can be switched off for the same reason as Cotty. Godfrey -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net

Re: congrats to pentax
I think they are - the DS/DL series did very well, and have added a number of converts, the K100D is selling like crazy and is receiving good media coverage and good reviews, and the K10D offers a lot for the money and some innovative features, and, apart from this list, is generating a lot of good buzz. The only down side - if you can call it that - is that the world of the DSLR changes rapidly, and it may be hard for Pentax to keep up with Canon, or even Nikon. Still, I think those who are not in need of the latest and greatest fluff offerings, will be quite satisfied with Pentax for some time. I cannot help but wonder if there will be a K1D ... Re: Pentax K10D press release ...
Maybe you need a new computer. The real question might be how much larger would the K10D be if it used CF cards. You can't really compare the D and the K10D as they have a different set of features and design. Or, another way of looking at it might be to consider how much smaller the D would be if it used an SD card. You say the decision to use SD cards in the K10D is 98% marketing. Where did you get that figure? I suspect you just made it up or pulled it from thin air. Shel [Original Message] From: graywolf That does not compute. Handheld's are almost completely SD at this point, laptops typically offer SD only if they don't offer a full set of options. Re: PDML Digest, Vol 5, Issue 156
We have the Optio 550. We were happy with it, but when our son entered the picture it was just too long a lag between pushing the shutter release and taking the picture. My wife picked up a Canon 30D this summer and absolutely loves it. Her old SLR is a Canon A2 so it was a no brainer for her. I have to admit, the 30D is a very nice camera. That said, she was impressed with the stats in the Pentax K10D. The internal shake reduction and sensor dust cleaning impressed her, especially in a sub $1000 camera body. Just like you I am glad I have waited for a Prosumer body from Pentax. I look forward to hearing from those early adopters on the list about how the camera performs. To: Pentax-Discuss Mail List pdml@pdml.net Message-ID: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Really nice! I will definitely get one. It has everything I have been looking for (well, except full frame, but that's another story) and all my fantastic A* lenses will work nicely. I've been very close to jumping the ship many times but I am glad I waited (all these years, heh). Why I did I stay so long? I have been shooting pictures, film or digital, well, they are just different kind of tools for the job. Lately I have been just waiting in silence :-) . The Optio 555 we have has been fun though! Looking forward for the ultrasonic motor lenses as well (I have only one AF lens right now, the FA 100/2.8 macro) so I can finally go AF. The weather sealing of the body sounds great too. The LX has it (I have two of those) and while none of the current Pentax lenses have sealing, there has never been a problem with my lenses. The body (especially DSLR) has a lot more sensitive components than any (mechanical) lens so... I see no problem. If the new lenses have sealing and USM, well, just great! My daughter is close to 1 and 1/2 years and the 555 is getting way too slow to get any good images of her... The 10D fits in just nicely. Re: advice regarding lens
From what I've seen, I'd say that the 50mm f/1.4 lenses (A, F and FA) outperform the K50/1.2, particularly wide open, but that some users like the K50/1.2's rendering qualities. For that price, if it's in good condition, it's certainly worth buying and experimenting with at least. You can likely re-sell it if you are not satisfied for the same or more money. For myself, I had several 50s and have settled on the FA50/1.4 as the one I kept. I prefer to have at least an A series lens so as to use all the body's exposure modes and decided that AF was an option that posed advantages as well.
