Hmm - we don't really have any problems with Maya and RR even on large scenes.
As Ed said, when simulating, cache locally and distribute the cache to render
clients in a local temp folder - this lightens the network load quite a lot,
and definately use tiled, mipmapped textures if your renderer
That is the first version I used on a job, skipping v.1.0 alltogether and
started transitioning from Softimage 3D to XSI 1.4 if I remember correctly.

I had this a while back when importing a bunch of motion graphics animated

We received the alembic files from elsewhere so we did not have the luxury of

I would like to unhide a number of objects by animating a volume and as the
objects get to be inside that volume their visibility is set to 1.0.

I agree with Marc-Andre on that, but that said, afaik Octane is standalone
requiring export as alembic or obj, which is somewhat limiting compared to the
built in flexibility of Redshift/XSI combo. Also last time I checked Octane does
not allow using system memory for scene data like Redshift

I have a cached particles simulation with instanced geometry on it which I would
like to export as geometry as an alembic file for import in Houdini so we can do
some simulation there.
It looks like there is no factory method for creating geometry form instances,

I would like to plot the geometry from an animated boolean operation. Is
there a tool that allows saving geometry with changing nb of vertices out
per frame and read it back in?
Perhaps some nifty ICE solution?
Thanks

It is too long ago I had trouble like this, so I plain don't remember how
to deal with it.
Suddenly after a normal days work and submitting renders to RR after
closing Softimage I can't start it again. It crashes and I get "Failed to
save before system failure". Tried restarting the computer and
That wasn't it :/

Wow, it is quite impressive what an impact Redshift has made already.
I have done a fair amount of testing with Redshift too and find on average
scenes to be 5-10 times faster than Arnold with comparable quality, plus a
number of things are simpler to set up the way you want it, in part because
No, they are very simple manual rigs.

I have a number of referenced characters which are animated using clips in
the animation mixer. It has been a very smooth proces, but in one shot on
one character I get a weird jump on a couple of controllers at a particular
frame when rendering on the farm. Done it twice now with jump at the same
Out of curiosity - how many of you have started using or completely
switched to Redshift?

Hmm - top three poster. Must be because so many others have moved on.
Although more quiet this is still a strong list that provides a lot of
quick help :)
