I just checked 2014 features (on 2013 here) and no mention of Alembic, so I guess it is still not available out of the box. Does anyone know if AD are perhaps planning to include Softimage in the Alembic club anytime soon? I know I can go get Exocortex Crate to get Alembic support for Softimage.

I had this recently and found that either using Rhino or Maya for converting the Iges model to polys and then into Softimage was a viable solution. One thing was clear though - Maya supports the Nurbs surfaces in the Iges file properly so rendres out of Maya didn't suffer from the discontinuities
