Hi David,

I have had all of these settings that you just described, and I
confirmed them. My selection for the default "search" is Google. The
"search" button (next to the command line) worked fine until I upgraded
to Version 1.1.15 earlier today. It remains animated but no longer
activates the Google Search page.

Do you have any clues from this?

Have you tried with a new/fresh profil yet? (Profile Manager can be 
found in the startmenu and in Seamonkey itself in the "Tools" menu.

Thanks for this suggestion. I did a short while ago, then migrated some 
of the config files to the new profile - address book and bookmarks. The 
Internet search button works in this new profile, but I have lost my 
password manager and the junk mails do not automatically transfer to the 
designated junk folder and do not move there even when I try to do the 
transfer manually!


Also, in Profile Manager I cannot delete a Netscape profile that is 
listed as an option but was deleted years ago...


I will have another look at all this after a night's rest. Meanwhile, if 
you can make any further suggestions on the new problems, I would be 
appreciative.

I am happy to say that I have just found a very helpful page on 
SeaMonkey Help at http://seamonkey.ilias.ca/profilefaq/ which helped me 
restore the Password Manager (by replacing the new one with the one from 
the corrupted profile and the prefs.js change for it), but I am going to 
sleep on the other issues I mentioned 1) files marked as Junk that won't 
budge, and 2) "phantom" profile that won't convert or delete.

CONCLUSIONS:
All is ok, BUT if you don't use any html gadget when composing your mail 
... the mail is sent in plain text.
In this case, there is no need of a conversion, because there is nothing 
to convert.

SM 1.1.14 is working perfectly and did not screw up the text sent.
The only thing we can argue, is the explanation about:
For mail & newsgroup preference my setting is : "HTML ONLY"
It is written: "Send the message as formatted text(HTML) ANYWAY..."
This sentence is true only if there is at least ONE html gadget present 
in the mail.

I did some experimenting a few years ago.  Because of differences in
end-of-line (EOL) indicators between Windows and UNIX, encrypting or
signing Web pages is not practical.  Thus, in terms of the SeaMonkey
browser -- or any other browser -- the answer is "No".

As for E-mail in SeaMonkey, see the following bug reports:




#285715 and #363302 were both closed as Invalid.  The attitude expressed
is that Thunderbird (and thus SeaMonkey, which uses code from
Thunderbird or vice versa) would simply never be compatible with PGP.
However, the fact that #22687 is still open gives me some hope that
compatibility between Mozilla applications and PGP might someday exist.
 Currently, in terms of the SeaMonkey mail/news capability, the answer
is also "No".  This is one of the reasons I still won't use Thunderbird
or SeaMonkey for E-mail.

There is a mail/news extension called Enigmail that works with Gnu
Privacy Guard (GPG).  I was never able to get GPG to use my PGP keyring
and thus did not thoroughly evaluate Enigmail.

Your ISP generated the message.
After closing the error window, I just hit send again in the

That is because '4' error codes are Persistent Transient Failures. The
receiving end may have experienced a hiccup, temporary service
disruption etc.

I am still wanting know what error code 4.1.2 is all about. 
I /think/ it comes from an internet code protocol standard, 
but I could not find it. Thanks.

Thanks to all for the information and explanation.
I'll pass this along to my ISP tech support BUT, it will be 
a waste of time. The ones I talk to seem to have almost no 
technical training or knowledge and, even though Peter 
suggests speaking to a higher-up, it is impossible. I've 
tried this on numerous occasions over many years. Of note, 
the tech support for this company is in Columbus, Ohio, not 
exported off shore.

Exactly.
This is why a supporter of a Windoze user needs to wipe the HDD
and restore from a disk image made before the box was ever used.
Any other way is wasted time
--with no assurance that some exploit isn't left behind.

...and to those who say "I've never gotten THAT infected",
I say "Prove that you're not infected right now".

Windoze is an open wound just waiting to be infected.
The wise move would be to convince your client
that he should be using
an OS that is significantly less likely to be infected.

...or set up a VIRTUAL environment where the malware goes *poof*
when you close the virtual session.

Not having any pigging windows disks for the machine, I ended up hitting 
it with 'HP Recovery', and to my surprise it worked reasonably well. 
Only taken 2 days to put back all the windows updates and restore the 
programs it missed - so now can I charge the customer for two days time? 
A brand new machine would be cheaper these days ;)

and PGP don't work together..  I can use Thunderbird to send and
receive encrypted email. I only use one of my twelve email accounts
for  for that.  I love SeaMonkey.  It uses for less ram than the
Firefox/Thunderbird duo.  It is more convenient; I can open the other
functions with buttons on the status bar. You know.

further information.

I have just uninstalled version 1.1.15 and reinstalled 1.1.14 hoping 
that whatever had corrupted in my installation yesterday would go back 
to my prior setting. It has not, and now I am permanently without a 
functioning "Search" in my browswer.


Is there a file in one of the Seamonkey directories that I can delete 
and/or repair? I have been using that feature with great frequency and 
am now at a loss.

with IE Tab, then you can use windows update, but you can't use SM to 
access windows update.

MyComputer, select "Properties" and then the "Automatic Updates" tab and 
make your choice(s). No browser needed or necessary.

Have you tried with a new/fresh profil yet? (Profile Manager can be 
found in the startmenu and in Seamonkey itself in the "Tools" menu.

Cause that only gets security updates for example?
WU provides other non-critical updates and even drivers for 
not-tech-enthusiasts ;-)


Drivers should not be retrieved from WU.  Had too many clients try that 
and totally screw up their systems.  Always best to use the 
manufacturers site.


And Microsoft Update is better than WU, as it offers the patches for all 
of their products, whereas WU only offers Windows updates.

I tried to make changes to cache setting but it did not help.   As far
as I can see my cache settings are the same in Netscape and
Seamonkey.  But in Seamonkey I continue to lose the information in
form I am filling when I use the back key.  Any other suggestion?

Did you export that additional addressbook via Tools => Export ?
Then you can import it via Tools => Import for example.

Otherwise I guess you need to create a new Adressbook
(File => New => ...)
an copy your backup over the newly created (and therefor empty) files of 
the addressbook like it is done with mail-accounts.

I recently had to format my hard drive and am now re-installing 
everything.  Is there a way to get my old additional address book back? 
 I copied the "Personal Address Book" into the new profile and it is

Jim, on the news.mozilla.org server, there is a group 
mozilla.support.screenshots that was specifically set up so that people 
could post screenshots of their problem displays.


Just take a screen shot of the message you get, then post it to 
m.s.screenshots, and call it "Cant Access Annexcafe.com", just as this 
thread is called. Post a message in this thread saying you have posted a 
screen shot!

To view, its: View, Message Body As, and Original HTML.

Also, you need: Edit, Mail & Newsgroups Accoung Settings, select the 
account, and under Composition and Addressing, at the top right you 
need to select "Compose messages in html format."


This is one of the downsides of SM and TB, you've got all these 
frakken various settings everywhere.

Even with all SM-2.0b1pre preferences set to HTML, with the

setting converts HTML-text to plain-text without advising the user. 
Auto-Detect does work OK in all other settings. HTML-text manually-fixed 
on each-message, by the Option/Format/Rich-Text(HTML)only menu, will 
send as HTML. Barry.
