Addressbook
Hello TBBETA, I have been playing with the new addressbook following some struggles with it last week when I was trying to do a mass mailing using a template (for which I ended up having to revert to the old addressbook). The new addressbook does not have a menu from which things like Mass Mailings can be selected. From playing around, I found that the Actions button that appears if you select one or more contacts enables you to select Mass Mailing. However: - There does not appear to be a way to select all contacts in a particular addressbook. If you select an addressbook or sub-addressbook in the left hand list, the contacts appear on the right, but there is not a Select All option - each one has to be selected individually or you have to click on the first scroll to the end of the list and shift-click to select all. - The search box at the top of the list searches all addressbooks, not the one selected. - If you select a contact from addressbook, the contact details appear on the right and that addressbook's contacts appear on the left, but you cannot then go back. If you want to go back to the list of all addressbooks on the left and individual addressbook contacts on the right, you need to click the hamburger menu on the left and then select the individual addressbook again. A back button to take you back to the list again would be much easier. Overall, I think I will stick to the old addressbook for the time being. I can see the new one has potential, but it is not as functional as the old one at the moment. Finally, I did notice that the menu on the old addressbook was detached from the actual addressbook in my two-monitor setup. The addressbook window appears in the middle of screen 2, but the menu (File|Edit|View) is stuck in the top left corner of screen 2 and does not move if I drag the window to screen 1. -- Julian Using The Bat! v10.2.1 on Windows 10.0 Build 19043 Current version is 9.1.18 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

Your filter will look for the phrase 'Received:' in one line (a line being a string terminated by a line break), which won't match as you want it to. I am not sure what the solution is. If the mail is being sent direct to GMX, then you could try to search for messages that have a received line which does not include GMX. Focus on starting TB
Hello tbudl, I have been having occasional problems with TB when I first start it. The main program window will not take focus, so although the Window is there, I cannot do anything with it. Strangely, I can right click and bring up the context menu, but again can get no further. The Message Ticker works, and double-clicking brings up the folder view, but I cannot select messages - buttons will pop out when the mouse travels over them, but cannot be clicked. I have checked for the obvious things - there are no out of view TB windows that have taken the focus (none that I can find anyway) and Alt-Tab does not bring up any windows that I could not see. When this happens, the only solution seems to be to close down TB and start it again. TB and other email software identifies the end of the header and the start of the message text by an empty line (a line which only has a new line character on it. Perhaps, as I think that some others have mentioned, there is a space on the blank lines. IIRC, TB will strip surplus spaces when it is reformatting messages, so maybe the message is being reformatted and the spaces stripped at some point in the process of forwarding the message, saving the attachment, and re-importing. Other than that, I don't have a clue. Do you have MS Word or a similar program installed? Display the message with the RCF-822 headers displayed, and then copy all of the text and paste it to a blank document in Word. If Word does not show non-printing characters (tabs, spaces, etc) by default enable this by going to Tools|Options|View and in the Formatting Marks section, select [ALL]. I used to use the Watch Thread feature in Agent (when I had time to look at newsgroups), but this was in relation to automatically downloading messages of threads I was interested in, rather than just the headers. In the case of TB, I download all the messages anyway. If we are talking about some additional functionality to the existing filters (perhaps the ability to apply colour groups to threads via the existing Shft-Ctrl-F Create Filter dialogue) then I would find it useful. Is the spam domain list is the best approach? Spammers change the email addresses and domains regularly, so most of the domains listed will no longer be used, and just slow your filters down. What I would like is an addition in the log file for the account to say that x messages were deleted without downloading - at the moment, it only tells me the number of messages on the server, the number of new ones, and the number downloaded. These don't get downloaded, and I can check and delete them manually once every few days using the Message Dispatcher (Ctrl-Shift-F2). Its a fine solution but as an academic question, I wonder if there really are any *practical* differences between a selective download [once or twice] a single download with filter actions attached. I think that it does take longer using selective download, but I don't think the difference is too great, because what you loose in the downloading of the headers initially, you gain by not downloading messages you don't want. Downloading the headers is a lot quicker than downloading messages, particularly over a slow connection. Databug's situation is a little different, because all of the messages are going to be downloaded anyway so the downloading of the headers is an additional overhead, but that increase in overall download time is justified by the circumstances. I use selective downloads in two specific situations - as a spam filter on an account that gets a lot of junk mail, and when I am travelling and downloading mail using my mobile phone, when I don't want to download a 500K email message unless I really need to! Synchronisation is *one-way* so if you have messages on each computer, you will need to run synchronisation *twice* with each computer as the target in turn. 2. Synchronisation does not delete anything - so it is ideal for situations like yours, because the worse you can end up with is duplicates, which are easy to get rid of. Account Priviledges
Hello TB! Users, A short while ago, I had a phone call from someone who could not get into their account because they had unwittingly set their account privilege to User, and TB! popped up a User/Password box when they tried to open it. I discovered the hard way how to get back in, having done the same myself in the process of trying to find a solution - the account name is the user, and the password is blank. The problem with this is that this only gives you user access to that particular account, so you cannot then change back to Administrator privilege. After some moments of panic (!) I got round this by using one of my other accounts to get into TB! with, where I had administrator privileges, and I could then set the privileges of the account I had changed to Administrator. What happens if you only have one account set up? If you have selected User privilege, with the default rights (none), and without setting up any User Groups, how do you switch back into Administrator privileges? Keystrokes would help me, they are much more convenient, so if there are any, kindly let me know. The spacebar will work to tick the box, but unfortunately if you move down to the next message using the down arrow, [Spacebar] works on the first ticked box, so if Read is ticked, then [spacebar] will untick this and not Delete. What I am really looking for is an option to delete all messages on server. Does this exist somewhere? Ctrl+3 (1 for Read, 2 for Receive, 3 for Delete and 4 for Open) in the Dispatcher window marks all messages for deletion. It works as a toggle, so you can turn off in the same way, but it also means that it will untick all ticked boxes and tick unticked boxes at the same time. Shift+3 will untick all ticked messages, but this is not a toggle, so you cannot turn the ticks on in the same way. It is good if you have some messages ticked - Shift+2 will untick them all, and Ctrl+2 will then tick them all. For quick deletion Ctrl+2 to untick Receive, and then F2 to execute the dispatch (delete the messages) Julian -- Using The Bat! v1.61 on Windows XP 5.1 Build 2600 Service Pack 1 Current version is 1.61 | Using TBUDL information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

What I am suggesting is that S/MIME signing is not necessary in the context of a discussion list where the identity of the poster is not important. Neither am I suggesting that S/MIME or PGP be banned from the list - merely that posters consider the value of signing messages sent to TBUDL and the bandwidth implications, not least for those on the list who use slow and expensive dialup connections. I had a laptop/desktop installation, but my situation is slightly more complex, as I send and receive email from both computers (although not at the same time) with different account settings and I have problems keeping the two in synch. In your situation, however, I would suggest that using the TB! backup or synchronize functions is not the best way to achieve what you want - I would use an independent backup program for this, and copy the whole of your TB folder to the desktop. The backup/restore process works fine. It brings over all the new messages; however, it also keeps all previous messages, many of which have been deleted from my laptop--or moved from one mailbox to another. Yes, this is a problem. Synchronize does not appear to copy filters, so I find that unless I manually copy across all my filters and folder structure, I end up with messages in different folders on different machines, and lots of dups. I also use different account settings on both machines, so I cannot simply copy across the complete laptop installation.
