I don't use GMX, but looking through other messages on the list, messages from Chris Wilson and Feli Wilke also appear to come via GMX (using a different domain name in Chris' case) and are also missing the space, so it does look like it could be a GMX issue. 2 TB Icons on Task Bar in Vista
Hello TB! Users, I have a problem with two icons for TB appearing on my taskbar in Windows Vista. It affects both Vista machines. When I first start TB, two buttons appear on the task bar. Rather than make the address picking process completely manual (which means opening the Addressbook and selecting the contact), I have settled for displaying a list of suggestions from the default account addressbook without autocompleting. It is the autocomplete that trips me up! You don't mention what version of Word you are using and I guess that the lack of reports of such problems previously on the list means that the problem is specific to the configuration of your machine. Word is involved in the composing of Outlook mail, so there is a potential interaction between Word and email. I would have a look at the Email settings in Outlook - check what the default settings are for sending messages (and switch to text only as a test). It would also be worth what the default programs are for email related activities are (in Outlook 2007, look under Tools|Options|Other|Default programs. If TB is not handling all the email related activities then change it. The other thing that can sometimes cause strange application crashes is a graphic driver issue. It would be worth checking whether there are more up to date drivers available. The final thing, as others have mentioned, are firewall and anti-virus issues. Turning off these (one at a time and then both) may help to rule this out. Both are likely to have a hand in the sending of mail. I hope that you find a solution soon. My preferred client is The Bat, but since it is IMAP, I can use any client to get the messages and Thunderbird is a good way of testing whether the problem is server or client related. The things that cause problems for me are accounts with lots of folders or lots of accounts to check at the same time, particularly when there are messages waiting in several of them. One large email can hold up everything else and I wonder whether the connections timeout and hang. You could play around with some of the settings in Properties|Mail Management|IMAP Fine Tune at account level and see whether that makes a difference. I did not have any particular problems with IMAP with v4, but there have been some improvements to IMAP so your experience might be better now. You cannot switch accounts from POP3 to IMAP so you would need to create new accounts. The existing messages would need to be moved into an IMAP folder to be accessible, but I kept my original POP3 folders with messages as archives rather than move messages, because I can search across multiple folders and accounts within TB anyway. The filtering works exactly the same way under IMAP, although I tend to use server-side filtering for arranging messages into folders, and use the filtering in TB for colour groups, etc -- Julian Using The Bat! v5.0.30 on Windows 7 6.1 Build 7600 Current version is 4.2.42 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
Pasting Formatted Text
Hello TB! Users, I use the HTML editor on some of my accounts. One of the disadvantages of doing this is that The Bat! does not have a Paste Plain Text option. This means that text pasted in brings in the source formatting, and I have to spend some time removing this again, and it is sometimes impossible for HTML text. Enter Get Plain Text, a free 70Kb application that you can pin to your Windows taskbar. Its sole function is to convert clipboard contents to plain text so that you can paste it in without any formatting. Brilliant! I've saved the installation time already this morning!
