I use Gmail's IMAP and I am having no problems. I see that Sean has
given you some ideas about what could conceivably be giving you these
frustrating problems.

It would not be true if one uses IMAP for Gmail (which Gmail recommends).

Thanks Alexader - you just fixed a problem that has been bugging me
recently too. In my case I got a message that the page referenced by
the hyperlink couldn't be found (but it still opened in Firefox
anyway). Switching the default browser to IE and then back to Firefox
fixed it.

the box and insert a limit over which K9 isn't to check messages and

not always.

Using The Bat! v2.12.00 on Windows 98 4.10 Build B
It's a bug. Turn off spell checking. However, I set my default editor
to plain text and this allows the spell checker to work then switch
via options/message format to html/plain to send,once I am happy with
the spelling.
