Thanks to all of you for your help with the Land Yatch/International
confusion. Believe it or not, I now understand what it all means.

Here's two more questions maybe you will be kind enough to help with....

1.) Where can a guy find a cover for the hitch receiver with the Airstream
Logo on it? I've been looking and found all kinds of things and gizzmos, but
not the logo.

2.) Our coach will act as a Guest House when not on the road. We installed a
pad for it to park on, and are now running fresh water from the County
supply, and sewerage line to our septic tank.

The power converter is 45 amps. How much ampreage does the input power line
have to have to supply the coach with power? Yes we do have roof mounted
air. I need this info before I contact Georgia Power to drop a line to feed
this puppy.

Good for you Cruiser Bob, you can have what we paid over the years, we'll
never get a dime of it back anyway.

Sorry Daisy, head is astern the aft wardrobes. Twin berths forward the
wardrobes and aft the galley, Master's Stateroom is fitted into the stem.

Why did they ever call this thing a "Yatch" in the first place? It's built
backwards. Master's Stateroom should be at the stearn, Head should be at the
stem.

Sails should go up, not hang off the starboard side and be called an
"awning"

How they ever get this thing off the ways? Don't even have a rudder, and
it's flat keeled. ;-)

Ron, you need at least 20 amp service to run the air conditioner, If I were
putting in electric service I'd have Georgia Power install 30 amp as is
common in campgrounds.

A word of caution. More than a few times the core will not come out
easily. That is why Moen includes a small plastic tool to break it loose
with the new core. So if it doesn't come easily don't force it with out
Moen's little do dad.

oh heck!
all trailers up to tupperware times were the basic Land Yacht.
if there was no mid moulding of blue (Excella) or a double moulding with a
"flag" (Intl), then it was the plain jane basic stripped down model (like the
old Chevy Yeoman stationwagon which had two or three levels of goodies on up to
the top level and I have forgotten what it was called - this in 1958) which
again, was the Land Yacht. so, if the trailer lacked the mid mouldings, then it
was a LY - the side mouldings were the immediate identifier.

SO, yours is an international -- disregard the LY.

Ron,

Reference item 2. While the convertor only draws 4-5 amps going full blast the
AC is what drives the boat electrically. The best answer is have an electrician
install a 30 Amp RV service socket close enough to the coach so you don't need
an extension cord. Take care with the RV 30A 110V socket as it is very similar
to other 220V sockets. Make very sure the electrician knows it is a 110V
connection.

On my '77 Sovereign, on the nameplate by the door, it has three sections.
(This is NOT the "official" plate with the GWR & stuff).

The left section says "Jackson Center, Ohio", "Airstream" & "Cerritos,
California" (Each on it's own line)

The Center section says "Land Yacht" "A Travel Trailer". Below that is the
stamped in serial number. There are some other number/letters stamped on
the top, but I dont know what they are (model number?).

The right hand section says "Sovereign" (In script :-).

On each side of the trailer, above the wheels is a large "parallelogram"
shaped plaque that says "International". it has red, white & blue sections.

I would be happy to take photos, if anyone is interested.

Greetings Marc!

I wish that I could help with identification, but since I didn't perform
the install myself I am unaware of how the rating is identified on the
part. I guess that was one advantage of working with a non-Airstream
service facility as they asked my opinion of all proposed repairs which
is how I learned about the rating system. My suspicion is that you may
have been sold magnets for a tandem rather than a single axle which
could explain a big difference as at least in '64 the tandem brake
magnets were 4,000 pound aggressiveness rating.

I suspect that a service facility that works with farm/utility trailer
may be able to clear up the identification issue.

Good luck in solving the mystery!

Kevin:
I decided to test my trailer brakes this evening. I wanted to see if
they are getting the proper voltage. (which might be causing them to
stop
poorly). I discovered a new hazard ....children who drive their own cars
can
take off with Dad's tools locked in the trunk! That's where my
voltmeter
is: in my son's car who left for the State of Indiana last Sunday.

So, I decided on an alternate test. I found a 35 watt headlight bulb and
patched it into the trailer brake magnet wire connections (in parallel).
The
bulb went from very dim to very bright as the brake controller was
depressed
. ...just like it should. The brightness of the bulb was, as far as I
could
see, just the same as when I had it hooked up to my (brand new) battery
in
the car. If my wires were corroded, or too small, or if there was some
deficiency in the electrical system someplace, the bulb would have
appeared
dimmer. So, without proper quantitative measurements, I'm going to rely
on
my observations (and gut reactions) and declare that I am getting plenty
of
voltage to my magnets. I could hear them operating also. In conclusion,
I
believe my magnets are just not strong enough. I'd say that your
recommendation about the aggressiveness of the magnets will solve the
problem of my weak brakes. I wish I knew what I have now! I wonder if
there
is any way to tell.

When I dream repairs, I'll most likely mix this problem up with my urinary

Well, my master stateroom is in the stern, head center and to port. My
mainsail seems to be reefed up pretty well too. When we pull it over
bumpy roads, it does feel like a following sea, and at anchor it does
move a bit with the waves...But then, a prairie schooner doesn't look
much like a schooner either...;)

This one is a '74 Overlander twin. So different than my '66, it's
going to be fun to compare everything.

seems like I'm collecting one from each decade, though I'm going to
have to hold my self down and not go looking for a 50's one quite yet!

anyway just thought i would share.

btw, I'm looking for a name still, and i would like to find something
that relates to "sisters" or "twins" as her and I share the same

It just seems fitting.

I put 225x15 on my 52 flying cloud.
Please note that I also carry "AAA",,, so that in the
event that I have a flat tire,,, they can fix-/-repair-/-
replace it...

We had to lift the trailer totally up off the ground and
partially deflate the tire to "wedge" it in....
Other than that,,, I like the extra width an still have
plenty of clearance all around...
good luck

I made a 9-foot by 10-foot awning for my Globetrotter for about $30, using
Sunbrella fabric I got on Ebay, and a grommet kit from the hardware store.
Someone on this list suggested putting hooks on the awning rail, so the
awning can be easily removed. It seems to work fine. I just drilled holes in
the awning rail that are big enough to hold one end of a 1" "S" hook. The
grommets on the top edge are spaced to match the hooks. I use tarp poles and
nylon line (or a tree, if available) to hold up the outer corners. I think
I'll remove the awning for long trips, but it can be bundled up and tied in
place - it just looks a little goofy!
