I have used McNutt 3 times with good result - inexpensive and did the job
right.

http://www.carmoving.com/mcnutt/

Note that I didn't pay for a "fancy" enclosed transport, just a normal
transport. The most I paid was around $650 to move a car from CT to TN.
From WI to TN and TN to MO was around $350 each time. I do get a small
"repeat customer" discount now :-)

Steve, you have the time, don't you? Why not just drive it up? Did you
ever see the movie Vanishing Point, circa 1971?

I recently purchased a set of E38 basket weaves in 16 x 8J size. The standard upgrade
would be from a 225/60-15 to 225/55-16 but I believe that is for 7.5J size. Can
anyone tell me if 235 or 245 wide rubber would fit? According to
http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html, it's either 235/50-16, 235/55-16 or
245/50-16 while being within 2% or less of stock speedo.

Cheers,

Roland

I have those wheels on a 525i and the 225/55 is the
proper size. A 225/55 is as wide as a 245/45 due to
differences in the way 50 and up tires are measured
compared to 45 and down.

Anything wider than 225 will rub the front strut.

Concensus seems to indicate eventual failure of the window regulators in my
E36 is unavoidable. So with that, I'm going to stock up on parts. Online
price for each side seems to be about $80? Awhile back, somebody posted a
link with notes on replacement of same... and not that I can't figure this out
myself (big ego, eh?)... but if that link could be posted again, I'd be
grateful.

The wife and I relocated in April (from MKE to JAX). I'm still working the
same job, but from a home office. With this, I've changed from a 50-mile
daily commute to occaisional short trips through the neighborhood. This home
office stuff might be easier on me than my car.

I've been trying to get her out on the Interstate now and then (the car, not
the wife), and I generally drive around town in one lower gear than I'd
normally use (trying to keep the revs above 3 or 4K)... but I wonder if
anybody else has any tips for things I should be doing to keep my garage queen
healthy. Any comments would really be appreciated.

Drive it normally, try to drive it once a week or so.

Well, what I found out after paying my $25 for 24 hours access is that
P0171 means "System too lean (Bank 1)" and P7400 does not exist in their
database. It is otherwise a really nice system though, I was able to
download over 1GB of model specific training manuals in pdf format,
that'll give me something to read...

www.bmwtis.com There's a section on converting PCodes. Note they are
VIN specific, you cannot get the info without your VIN.

Anyone ever used an "adaptor" such as shown here:

http://www.brandsonsale.com/transmission-adapter-jack.html

I'm looking at these to ease the task of dropping the diff from an E30.
The method of attachment to the floor jack is not clear and therefore
safety is a concern.

Thank you.

I have never used an 'adapter' like that but you can get a dedicated tranny
jack for about the same price:

http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Displayitem.taf?itemnumber=39178

I have a similar one that I purchased from H.F. a few years ago and its still
going strong. A good investment.

Jim,

I think the intention was to mold antennas into the foil to aid in the
telepathetic [sic] communications. Of course the necessary skull electrodes
would be extra.

Ah, I see. I've heard that one of those big cone things, like they use on
dogs, works really well for telepathic communication. Just line the inside
with tinfoil, and use GPS to aim at person with whom you wish to communicate.

On the E30 connector (C191 from the web , but no listing in Bentley???)
under the intake.... how do you remove the upper portion of the connector?

By unscrewing the lower half I could look into the female side of the
contacts. A slight amount of tarnish. But I couldn't get off the male side.
No C clip was evident.

There was also no dielectric grease.

The connector is held in place with a plastic threaded ring on the other side of the
connector
holder. Hard to see it, but if you feel around for it, you should be able to find it
and loosen
it to get it off.
