If you take it to them they'll accept them for free, we've gotten rid
of two E30s, a 325 and an M3 (eek). "We" means Karl really but we did
actually help him load it onto the trailer using wooden boards and his
big Chebby to pull the carcass onto it.

Carlos.

Hmmm,

Around here you simply take it to a scrape metal yard and THEY PAY YOU for
the metal, lol. I have hauled more than a couple to a metal yard. They
weigh you coming in and going out, then pay for the difference. Doesn't
work out to be much, but sure is better than paying them money for something
they are going to make money on also.

Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

Group,

After removing a few hundred pounds from my E36 coupe,
the rear of the car has risen up on the springs (H&R
sports) about an inch or so, and has affected the
rake, weight distribution and center of gravity. The
solution is to get shorter 60mm springs with ride
height adjusters, but my problem is that I'm unsure
if, say, a 5" tall spring at a rate comparable to the
H&R sports (350 lb/in) would experience coil bind,
either in motion or at rest. I have about 650 lbs on
each rear wheel, but I know there's some "motion
ratio" that amplifies that weight at the spring.

What are some of the lighter spring rates folks are
using? Would going to a 6" tall spring help this
situation, or would my ride height then still be too
high? Please help... I'm desperate, but don't want
to shell out the coin for a full coilover setup with
500+ lb spring rates (yet).

Thanks,

Neil

Tom,

I'd recommend a car bra. ;) Seriously, I think the standard advice is to
simply wax over it as you do the rest of your car. I've only ever seen one
instance of the film appearing yellowish and that was on a white car after a
few years. (No idea how it had been cared for.)

Just sort of an FYI for the list, but I bought a 535i at auction last
week and went to get the car yesterday. The seller had failed to
disclose an "ELM" warning light on the dash. Turns out this particular
car was fitted with traction control which in 1991 resulted in a full
drive by wire system. I knew 750ils of this vintage had this, but it was
the first time I had seen it or heard of it on a 535. No real point to
this, but it was something new to me. I'm sure someone (besides Brett
A.) knew of this, but maybe someone else shopping for an E34 will be
spared a fruitless trip trip to Houston.

In my case the seller refused to make good on the the ELM issue, (most
likely a bad throttle body actuator for $500 or so) so I walked. Too
bad, an otherwise decent old car.

OK on the "new" E30 one of the headlights is missing the lower adjustment
knob.... but that's not relevant. I'd like to replace the projector's right
away but I'm told we need the buckets from a prior year E30. What are some
part numbers that will work (I don't have a parts CD). A call into BMA
Imports for an '87 set(Daniel Stern recommended) had two part numbers
because of a cross over on 06/89.

I have a set in the basement. A case of Yuengling ($15) and shipping and
they are yours.

It would probably work, assuming the suction tube was easily maneuvered
to the bottom of the pan. I don't see how it would stress anything.
You wouldn't get any more fluid out that way though. The extra fluid is
hanging out inside the torque converter where no suction tube will
reach.

Anybody know where I can get either a harness adapter kit or the receptacle
equivalent of the OE Alarm Head unit and Siren for a '98 Z3? While I could
easily install the OE head unit (made by Alpine if I recall correctly), I'm
not really impressed by the feature set (glorified keyless entry system) and
would like to be able to install something better without having to hack-up
the car's wiring harness but rather have it Plug-and-Play. I already know
all the pin-outs, I'm just trying to find the jacks to match what's on the
wiring harness...

I would also in be interested in wiring harness adapters for Audio head
unit.

Thx!,
Dave

these guys used to carry harnesses for alarm and for radio

http://www.autotoys.com/

I ended up getting the factory alarm and was going to add a proximity sensor
(spliced into the hood sensor) but haven't got around to that yet..

Is it normal for the A/C compressor and electric radiator fan to cycle on
and off (99 M3)? If not, what is this indicative of? I've never noticed this
on my E39. It's most noticeable waiting at stoplights - a very pronounced
engine surge when the A/C engages. I've seen this operation on much older
cars, with the older CCOT design. Is this one of those?

Yes, at least on my '98 M3.

No, like John and Jim said, the incident at Candlestick was nowhere
near that extreme. Nor was the driver as skilled as the one in the
rally footage. As for the drainage ditch, the closest thing I've seen
at a CCA autocross was at O'Fest this year. At least it was paved.

My factory radio is occasionally loosing sound. The
display stays lit and all other functions seem to
work, but I get no sound from either radio stations or
cassette. Sometimes it will come back on right away
and sometimes it won't work for 10 - 15 minutes. What
should I check first?

This is a '93 525i with factory radio, amp, and
speakers.
