Is there any wisdom regarding good and bad brands for valve guides and valve
guide seals?

Preferred manufacturers or characteristics?

I have a Metric Mechanic modified cylinder head and plan to it tear down for
a cam swap. New seals for sure, maybe guides if needed. Would like to know
what sorts of parts I should be considering.

Thx!!

What I've seen, and from what I've been told, a generic reader will
generally point you in the right direction (fuel system, emissions, etc.)
but will not provide the exact diagnosis that a BMW system will. I've
used my PC-based reader and got a general diagnosis (and I can clear the
light) but my indie (who has an actual BMW GT1) or a friend who has a
BMW-approved(?) aftermarket box used in Europe have always been able to
pull up EXACTLY what is wrong.

The sudden cooling of the O2 sensors from the water could have flipped the
light. I've got CE's for O2 sensor fault after a good hosedown of the engine
compartment. Reset the lights and no further problem.

Nothing. Cam bearings are very lightly loaded, wear little and even if the
clearance is large, there is little to no consequence.

Measure the valve clearance. A bent valve will hold open and show large
clearance.

ahhh oh, now you've done it Peter..... frustration response is one thing,
anatomical references another thing altogether.
Don't be surprised if you've released the "Thunder from Down Under" (Quotes
appropriate).
Seriously, I think (and I'm beginning to learn), that additional costs such
as special tools can add the complexity and cost of even a head
recondition. In addition, Brett is coming at the issue from years and
breadth of experience and yes, a guy who provides for himself by this kind
of work (much appreciated by many). If you don't give him that benefit of
the doubt, you made a boo-boo.

I have a universal seat slider that would be good enough for your passenger
seat in your race car (should you need one) or street car. It is used and I
didn't like the small amount of play that the slider gave so I took it out
of the race car.

Yours for $30 plus shipping from 89144.

It stands for Valve Not Operating Smoothly, and activates on high mileage
motors in an attempt to pass emissions when the motor would otherwise fail.
The design is based on a long registered patent of the Boy Scouts of America,
knows as a left handed smoke shifter.

Think I'm finally going to tear into my sunroof
problem this weekend, and find the parts and figure
out how to fix the interior trim panel so it stays put
(I'll definitely be photographically chronicling this
procedure for everyone else out there that I've
promised this to! :)

In any case, I need advice on how to proceed removing
the headliner so that I can gain access to the rear of
the sunroof. I hear it's not too much of a PITA, but
I do want to be careful. Anyone got p/n for the
roofliner clips? :)

Thanks,

Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

Hi Everyone,

My owner's manual makes no mention of toggling between C and F for the
climate control readout that I can find. The Check Control has a C/F
button, but that only appears to toggle the readout for outside temp. My
local Service advisor has instructions for how to do it if you have an OBC,
but I only have check control with outside temp. Anybody know short of
going to the dealer and having them hook up?

Thanks,

Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

Anyone have an open carfax account they could run this VIN through for me?
WBAHJ6316PGD22862 The reason I ask is that the PO told me that this is a
"lifetime" filled transmission - which is not the case with the A4S 310R.
He said he had had the car about 5 years, so I'm thinking it's had no
transmission service in at least that time and unknown mileage. Currently
has about 151,000 showing and the transmission feels fine (though it feels
like stiff linkage) and is clean and dry underneath. With this high an
interval between services what do you all recommend? Leave it alone and
pray? Normal service w/filter and new Dexron? A transmission on-car flush
to rinse out the passages and get rid of the big chunks and deposits?

Thanks for the help -

Does a rear shock tower bar really make a big difference in handling? By
that I mean can a sensitive driver feel a difference?

Thanks, Kevin
