Hi Dark, Yes, I clearly remember the early NES and Sega games, and you are right on the money about the short plot lines which were all pretty much canned stories with different characters. For example, Legend of Kage and Double Dragon have the basic same story. Big bad bully captures heroes girl friend and hero must kick all the enemies, lower bosses, and big bosses butts to get her back. Now, that I think of it Super Mario falls in this catagory as well. The stories back then were cheesy, but that was well made up for in good game play and replayability. I really liked Double Dragon, and especially the boss fights against the giant named Abobo. In the first act you could kick him through the wall which resulted in a spectacular death which i later found out was a glitch in the program. However, it was still cool backing him up, and then giving the snap kick that knocked his butt right through the wall. In terms of variety of levels Megaman takes my vote. While you were trying to work your way to Dr. Whilie's level each level was completely different. In Fire Man's world everything was covered in fire and lava. in Ice Man's world everything was covered in ice and snow. In Electric man's world most of the machines and creatures could shoot bolts of electricity which could electricute Megaman, and so on and so on. Those games were pretty darn intense and like you I was asking what next. I remember this one really cool level in Megaman where you had to jump onto these colored platforms that vanish and appeared seamingly at random. You had to time your jumps off one before it vanished to land on another that was just appearing ahead. It was a real witch-and-a-half to make it safely across. As for Castlevania how can I forget. One of the best games of all time in myopinion. Nintendo attempted to get every monster ever thought of in that game. They had mummies, vampires, skelitons, black armoured knights, \frankenstein, dragons, and so on. Assuming you lived to get to Draculas level good luck kicking his tail. He would rip you a new one and twice on Sunday if you didn't know his weeknesses.
