Create a field on the form, and a button. The button will show Lock/Unlock. The basic premise will be that users can lock or unlock a ticket. If a ticket is unlocked, then the button will display Lock. If the ticket is locked, then button will display Unlock. If a user hits the Lock button, then their userid and a timestamp is placed in the field, then a commit changes is done. Now, they have control of the ticket. If the next user comes in and opens the same ticket, workflow that runs on window open or loaded will check to see if that field is empty. If it is not, and if the current user is not the user in the field, then remedy knows the ticket is locked, and will present the user a message to inform them that XXX has locked this ticket on YYY date/time. The active link will also change most/all of the fields to read only. You will also need to have a group of people that can force an unlock, in the event someone has gone home leaving a ticket locked. You might also create an escalation that will go through each night and unlock tickets that have been locked for XXX number of days. Also, whenever a ticket is moved into your terminal status, be it fixed, resolved, closed, whatever, then you will need to unlock it so your normal workflow that works with closed tickets will work properly. results list height
I have a user who wants to expand the height of his results list whenever remedy returns his query. I thought if he dragged the bar down to expand the results list height that it would retain the new height, however, whenever he closes his search window and opens a new search window, then performs a search, the results list is back to six rows high. I looked through the ar.ini hoping there would be something in there, but nothing jumped off the page to me. Does anyone know how to do this? I looked under Tools, but couldn't seem to locate a place to set this. How about this: Your users don't actually take a float license unless/until they modify a ticket created by someone else? Why is it that they grab a float license when doing things that don't require a float license? If they are not performing tasks that require a float license, then they should be using a float-read, or a read license, freeing up a floating license. I'm not sure if they've fixed this or not in the 7.x tools, but with 6.3, a user with a floating license consumes a floating license as soon as he/she logs in, and remedy won't necessarily take his license away if someone else needs it. Well, that is kind of drastic if you only have one user, or maybe even a group of users which want this functionality. Instead of not sending email out for a small group of users, you are looking at disabling email totally for everyone. Is there a fix that doesn't involve patching? It only happens on some accounts, but on those accounts that it happens, it happens every time for those accounts. Nope, standard American name (whatever that is these days). Nothing special. We even checked all of the Unicode fields in AD to make sure there weren't any bazaar characters in there. There was one field with a bazaar character, so we left that field off of the vendor form, but it still had the same error. I've done this before. I did the following: Whenever a child ticket is closed, push a value to a hidden, display-only radio button. The Parent Ticket will have a filter that runs on modify if that radio button has a value. It will select the request ID of the first child ticket that is still open. The next filter will run under the same conditions, and will check to see if the request ID field set in the step above is $NULL$. If it is $NULL$, then that means there are no child tickets open, so it will close the parent ticket. Now, the only problem you have, is if the users open the child ticket from the parent ticket, they will not get the change on the parent ticket, whenever the Status changes. I had a modal window open for my child ticket, and the users opened it via a button click. The first action was to open the window. The next active link would set the status for the current ticket (The parent ticket), from the database. Hi all, I know that I've seen it on here before, but due to changing jobs, I do not have my vast archive of emails through which I could search. Whenever you sync your search dataset, and it causes your admin tool to crash, then you open your admin tool, it still says it's searching, and never finishes, what is it you do in order to rectify the situation and get a new search database synced? There was a trick out there that some people used that would fix the issue where it would crash the admin tools. I believe it involved deleting some forms. Does anyone remember the issue, because I'm still crashing my admin tool every time I try to sync. 6.03, no patch. I thought we were at 19, but I guess not. I know it works, the guy before me did it, and he had to do some maneuvering to get it working. I think he deleted the three object forms, and then next time he ran the sync, it recreated them and worked. Wow, Joe, you really worked hard on this :) My database is very small though, so I think there are other issues at hand. I only have 65 forms, 646 ALS, and 255 filters, and that's including the sample stuff, and all of the AR System forms that are installed by default. I don't want to patch right now, as I'll be moving to 7.1 within a few months anyways. Thanks for all the help. I was hoping there was a solution available. I always create a view form for the arschema. I usually create a form with two fields also. The first field I type in a query, such as: Select name, schemaid from arschema where name = XX Then a button I click that executes the query, and the query is set into the second window. I also always create a view form with a Date/Time field, a Character field, and two buttons. The first button will do a set fields action to the date/time field, setting it to the character field. The point of this is to translate a regular date into the epoch seconds. The second button does the inverse, giving me the epoch seconds of any date I need. Shrestha, I've seen this before, and have posted to the list twice the resolution, and it has helped other people. Unfortunately, I do not have my archive of emails right now to pull up, but if you search for posts from me, you'll find one that discusses this. It may not solve your issue, but it does definitely solve the issue of remedy trying to start up before sql server does. The problem is that windows thinks sql server is up before it really is. The key is to set a dependency for remedy to not start up until the sqlserveragent starts up. Sqlserveragent has sql server as a dependency, and sqlserver agent takes 10+ seconds to start up. So, by the time sqlserveragent starts up, the database engine is fully functional, so remedy will start without issue. If you had a prefix, such as TKT on your ticket number, such that your ticket number might be TKT000123123, then you could do this: Set tmpInt = STRSTRC($Message Body$, TKT) Set tmpTkt = SUBSTR($Message Body$, $tmpInt$ -3, 12) That might work, I'm not sure if the carriage returns would pose a problem, and you might need to change the -3 or the 12, depending on how it works whenever you get a STRSTR on multiple characters. CMDB and Discovery
BMC Remedy 7.1 Hello all. I am curious as to what all is required if I were to want to use BMC Discovery to populate the CMDB? Would I only need CMDB, Discovery, and DSL, or would there be additional utilities or tools required (other than the obvious, such as arserver)? I am mainly looking to get the data into the CMDB. I'm not concerned about presenting it in Asset Management at this point, only in populating the CMDB. Most of use running ARS against SQL Server have never even installed it with case sensitive collation, so I plan to set up a separate SQL Server just for Discovery; I can't use any of my existing servers which are all case insensitive. 5. BMC docs indicate that Discovery should be on its own server, separate from ARS and anything else, and that the db should be separate; my plan is to put the SQL Server and Discovery server on a dedicated box, at least at first, if we can ever get to the 7.5 code. Make sure the Host ID is correct on all of your licenses you have installed. Check this by going to add a new license. Select the Product Feature of AR Server and note the Host ID that remedy pulls. Next, check your license keys that you've already installed to ensure they are referencing the same Host ID. If they are not, then the license keys will be invalid. It is case sensitive (I've found out the hard way), so ensure all the letters are the same case (should be upper case). If the Host ID is different, on your existing licenses which have previously been installed, then what remedy chooses when you go to add a new license, then something changed, either you had to have a NIC replaced (in the event your server does not have integrated network ports), or for some reason remedy is seeing a different MAC (as most servers have more than one), or maybe they virtualized your server overnight without letting you know. I even tried restarting my computer, the server, the mid-tier server, tomcat (I wasn't using IIS at that job), and arserver -- all to no avail. If the field is on another form, doesn't it usually give the field ID instead of the name, so he would get the following error: ARERR [330] You do not have write access to field : 7 This has been the case for me, but I'm not sure if it is 100% that it acts this way. Sree, first check to make sure the user has a proper license. If they are trying to modify a ticket someone else created, and you have submitter mode locked, and the user has a read only license, they will get exactly this error. I suspect this is probably the issue. If you have submitter mode locked, and the user has only a read license, they can modify their own tickets, however you must have Submitter write permission on the field, along with the allow any user to submit, as well as at least one explicit or dynamic permission group on the field with write access, all of these to which the user belongs. Also, if the user has a floating or fixed license, make sure that the user has a permission group that has write access to the field. I am willing to bet the user only has a read license though. Email Engine will not start -- Failed to load java virtual machine.
I'm running java version 1.6.0.7 (java 6 update 7) and remedy version 6.3. My email engine crashed a few days ago and I cannot get it to come up. I'm getting the error: The Remedy Email Engine service on Local Computer started and then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they have no work to do, for example, the Performance Logs and Alerts service. There is a chance that my Email Server User's password expired. Just in case, I reset his password in Active Directory and in the AR System Email Mailbox Configuration Form. I then tried to restart the email engine, but it was to no avail. I have not yet restarted remedy, I'm trying to avoid that. Still, whenever I try to restart the engine, in the event log, I see the following three errors: Type: Error Event ID: 4098 The AR System Email Engine service failed to start. Type: Error Event ID: 4096 Could not load the Java Virtual Machine Type: Error Event ID: 4097 The LoadLibrary function failed for the following reason: The specified module could not be found. . It sounds like it's having java errors big time. Does anyone have any suggestions? I navigated to my email directory and there were two log files, stderr and stdout. Neither of them had any relevant information. The arerror.log doesn't say anything either. My email engine crashed a few days ago and I cannot get it to come up. I'm getting the error: The Remedy Email Engine service on Local Computer started and then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they have no work to do, for example, the Performance Logs and Alerts service. There is a chance that my Email Server User's password expired. Just in case, I reset his password in Active Directory and in the AR System Email Mailbox Configuration Form. I then tried to restart the email engine, but it was to no avail. I have not yet restarted remedy, I'm trying to avoid that. Still, whenever I try to restart the engine, in the event log, I see the following three errors: Type: Error Event ID: 4098 The AR System Email Engine service failed to start. Type: Error Event ID: 4096 Could not load the Java Virtual Machine Type: Error Event ID: 4097 The LoadLibrary function failed for the following reason: The specified module could not be found. . It sounds like it's having java errors big time. Does anyone have any suggestions? I navigated to my email directory and there were two log files, stderr and stdout. Neither of them had any relevant information. The arerror.log doesn't say anything either. You can always manually validate the active link already exists by running the following query: select * from actlink where name = ' NDU:HPD:COI:IMOsConsole_100_OpenView ' although I'm sure that it will find it. I have to agree with Matt Gayford, next time, try refreshing your active link list to make sure that it had not already saved, and then you might have done, as Andy suggested, a save as. To make querying the database quicker, I always create an admin-only, display-only form with two character fields, both unlimited in length. The first field is where I place my query, and then I have a button that will do a set fields to the second character field with the results of the query. I use it quite a lot instead of opening up SQL Enterprise Manager. weird IP addresses in the logs
I have a user whom is getting the typical user is connected from another machine error even though she has not accessed her account from any other computer. I look up in the arerror.log file, it shows her old and new ip address. I was going to do an NSLookup on the names, and then check a program I have access to that shows me who last logged into that computer to see what is going on. However, the IP addresses in the logs are very weird. At first, they look to be in hex, but then I convert, and get an impossibly large number. They consist of four sets of colon-delimited hex strings. Each of the second sets has a - at the front of it. Does anyone have any guidance on this? Are they IPV6 ips? I don't think it can be done on the user tool level, but you can join the table with itself to find it. For instance, if your table name is called asset, you could do the following: Select a.serial__, a.database_id, b.serial__, b.database_id from asset a, asset b where a.serial__ = b.serial__ and a.database_id != b.database_id This should join up the two tables, and find all of the entries where they share an entry with the same serial, but different database ids. You could potentially run into a problem if you had three duplicates, but as you remove the first duplicate, you will then identify each new duplicate with the query. You might need to tweak the query just a bit, but play with that. I've used it before to find duplicates and it was very helpful. And again, if you don't have access to the database to run these queries, then see my post from yesterday on creating a view form to run SQL in. It's just a view form, two character fields, a button, and an active link that does a set fields. The SQL is placed in the first field, and the set fields active link sets the second field to the results of the SQL query. Axton, I think you are on to something here. I got into her computer and found she has a standard IP address. I showed her how to do an ipconfig, so she can let me know if she is having a problem in the future. I also noticed, by looking through my arerror.log, I have three other users experiencing the same issue, just not telling me about it. Chances are it is a unique id generated by the mid-tier as the mid-tier servers do not use the actual client ip address. The second scenario is the case here. So, what is the resolution? Is there something on the server that I need to update, or is it just that she is logging in too quickly since last logging out? Do I need to check some settings in the admin web page to see how long it holds on to licenses? If you are trying this in the User or Group form, it will fail due to a unique ID that is generated by the system. I've had someone do this before, and the request showed up in the results list, but not in the details pane. Also, you might check for filter looping. Usually you'll get an error stating such problem, but if you have your server configured to allow high number of filters to execute, and you have a slow server, you might see a timeout. It's worth looking at. You can see these by looking at the logs, you'll see a million filters for a given user executing nearly simultaneously. Yeah, I was wondering if filter phasing would cause you an issue. Adding the `! was good. For the part on the escalations, why are you trawling the user table, looking for the group and removing it? Are you going through each night and removing all users from the group, then re-adding only the users from the guide? As far as having a field to modify to trigger the workflow, I would suggest adding a read/only radio button so that your filter that calls the guide can explicitly check for that flag being set. This way you can lock it down to run exactly only when you want it to. Actually, I think you might want to do a REPLACE($Group List$, ;1234; ;) This way, ;1;1234;12;23;4; would go to ;1;12;23;4; So, the ;1234; would go to ;, so you would still have your proper delimiter. Test this in a small scale first to make sure you don't screw up all of your user's groups. I've seen before where junk characters would get put in this field at the database level, and break the user's access to anything. I'm not sure of the implications with a floating license of adding/removing a license, since they are not tied to a user. However, with a Fixed License (which is not what you stated you are using), you can only reassign it 3 times per week before it is locked for the rest of the seven days. Since you can select all of them, is there a RP to de-select a row? Basically, you could start out by selecting all of the rows, then just deselect the rows you don't want.. RPC error in Admin Tool when trying to go to File - Licenses - Add/Remove Licenses
All, I'm using admin tool 6.3 p023, my server is 5.1.2 (I'm pretty sure it is). This is an old server that is barely used any more. I am trying to go to File- - Licenses - Add/remove Licenses to see what all licenses I have issued. I am getting the following error: RPC call failed - RPC:Procedure Unavailable [ARERR 91] However, if I try to go to File - Licenses - Manager User Licenses, I do not have an error, and the license window pops up just fine. Does anyone have any idea why I might be getting this error on one of the license queries, but not both? I am running ARS 7.0 on MSSQL on Win2003. I have a Remedy Outlook form that uses OLE Automation to open Outlook and add an attachment, without sending the actual message. What I need to do is add two additional attachment fields so I can add multiple attachments to the single email. My problem is I don't know where to go in OLE Automation Servers or in Objects in Library. If someone could point me in the right directions, I'd very much appreciate it. Andrew, those trees are called daughters. They don't actually grow the money of the leaves, rather you have to make a mulch out of $20 bills, then apply it weekly to the base of the tree. LJ, the epoch you have in second action, 1167751252, is equal to 1/2/2007 9:20:52 AM, which would confirm what you are seeing. The only thing I can think of, is that since you are dealing with a table, it must be performing the calculation at the database level or server level, which would not utilize timezone. It is odd though, since you are using an AL, I would expect it to still adjust for your TZ, but I guess since the value is in a table, it is having to query the database whenever you perform your calculation, and doesn't adjust for the TZ. Can you use business time calculations in the run-if line for a filter? I need to create a filter that will warn when we are close to exceeding the SLA limit. The problem I'm running into, is that if I just do straight calculation, that's on a 24/7 clock. One of my groups is only on a 10hr/5 day a week clock. I need to only include time that is supported. I do not want to add a field that will track when the target date/time is. I've done that before on other applications, but I'm hoping to keep this straightforward and with as little code as possible. DSO Question
Hi all. Hope everyone is doing fine. Windows/ARS 6.3/SQL Server This weekend, we are upgrading hardware on one of our remedy server. I'm considering applying my DSO license afterwards. I do not have my mappings set up yet, as my firewall rule isn't in place yet. My question is, is it okay to go ahead and apply my DSO license before having the mappings and the firewall rules? And just to clarify, after applying the DSO license, all I need to do is restart the server, correct? I do not have access to one of the servers. Someone at a different site was going to create the mappings. Will this cause an issue if I apply my DSO license and there are no mappings, and I cannot see the remote server? Basically, I just want to stage it up so I can turn on DSO at a later time. I'm trying to take advantage of a scheduled outage for the hardware upgrade, so I don't have to restart Remedy later and schedule a second outage. Is there a way to back-out the DSO if there are issues, other than doing a re-install? It's a bug. I've noticed it too. There's nothing you can do about it with your current version, and I'm not sure if it is fixed in newer actions. Urgent: Active Directory Connection is Failing
Well, I hope someone out there is watching the list tonight. So, here's the deal, we just upgraded servers, and now my active directory server quit working. We kept the same server name, new IP though, and new MAC. I have applied all licenses successfully. We are running Windows environment with SQL server database. I called remedy, but due to my support level, they won't help me on weekends L I'm getting an error that is just saying Failed to Connect to Active Directory Server. The documentation on the error states the following: 3375 Error Cannot connect to the directory service. This error message appears when the host name or port number for the directory service are incorrect or when authentication with the directory service fails. Any ideas? Shouldn't have. The server guy used a spiffy application that takes a copy of all data on the HD, then swaps it over to the new server, and then does something with HAL to make the software match up with the hardware. Do you think that the server having a different IP could cause any issues? We're going to revert the IP on the server back to the IP of the old server to see if that will fix it.
