Re: [slim] LMS Scanner 8.31 failing
I finally got the scanner to complete a scan. I did run SFC on my LMS computer and it found a few errors which were fixed. I also performed further file integrity scans on a few music folders and removed a few hundred damaged files. I have since run several "new or changed" rescans without any errors in the log. So, LMS is my friend again, at least for now. Until it's not, I guess. I'm tempted to run a complete rescan just to see if I can. *LMS is the meaning of life.* At least on this forum. Happy New Year. 2. The C drive has 128 GB left on it. And did you run a file system check? Did you look into those CUE sheets, why they point at files which no longer exist? Or why LMS might think they no longer existed? And my question is why did this problem develop suddenly on my system after a year or so of stability? Asking this question is asking for the answer to life and everything. Let's start with smaller questions to which we can find a answer in this lifetime. ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] LMS Scanner 8.31 failing
On like the 10th try, the scanner stalled at about the same place but I left it scanning because I wasn't watching it closely. Inexplicably, the scanner started moving again and completed scanning my nearly 450k files. However, it now stalls and aborts early in the artwork pre-caching stage. I saw in one of the scanner logs that a GIF was corrupt. I then scanned all my files for corrupt picture files with Bad Peggy. I found and deleted less than 100 bad graphics files but the scanner still aborts at the pre-caching stage. Thoughts? Mine are as follows: 1. Why did LMS happily scan my files until recently yet there have been no substantial changes to my setup other than Windows updates and Plex updates? 2. Why does it stall when newly scanning files at about 75k and then resume scanning as if nothing happened? 3. Why does the scanner stall on the artwork pre-caching now and completely abort? I like detective work but I would rather just use the system. Fortunately the system does play now, at least. I have attached the scanner log again and a screenshot to show where it stalls/aborts. Thanks for any help. I have been using this version for a year or so on a Intel NUC computer with an i7 processor and 16 GB of RAM. The best solution is always to fix the tags. You could also narrow down your music folder to just one or two where the problem arises, then enable logging for the scanner, and provide the scanner.log.zip for analysis. ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
[slim] LMS scan and mp3 tags
There is an lms feature which will use folder and file names to guess artist/album/song when mp3 tag fields are empty. But when a folder includes files with tags and other files without tags, that feature does not work. The album will show the songs that have the tags and the other song files will be ignored by the scan. All will show up if I click on folders instead of albums. Is there a way around this short of editing all the tags with missing fields? Upgraded the Pi4 to a newer 64-bit distro and had some hassle, due to changes (had to manually install bluez-alsa from a deb file), and one speaker takes longer to connect than before, but everyting still works. I have a python script that monitors for BT connections and then starts a squeezelite instance. This allows me to have a speaker in the bathroom that I just turn on and after a few seconds (this is the slower speaker) it conncts to LMS and starts to play. Here are some ways to combine LMS and Bluetooth headphones and speakers. 1. Raspi 3./4 plus Picoreplayer. The Pcp Bluetooth feature can be temperamental to set up (especially in the latest version). 2. Android tablets/phones with Squeeze Player or SB Player apps. Easy set up. Use the bluetooth transmit on the android device. This method also works for Fire TV devices and Android/Google TV devices. 3. Android/Google TV devices. Install chromecast bridge plugin on LMS. Add Bluetooth phones/speakers to the chromecast device. The chromecast device can be unplugged from the hdmi port. 4. Windows 10/11 - add bt devices via Settings. Install the excellent Squeezelite-x program (r. g. dawson) In terms of setup difficulty, I've found 2. and 3. to be the easiest. The 2 android apps are low-cost. Re: [slim] LMS album definition from filename? Really.
I will try to restate my earlier question in a more comprehensible format: Is it possible that LMS thinks that a filename beginning " TS6-X" refers to disc number X of a multi-disc set? For that to happen, I think (but have no actual knowledge) that the following would be necessary: 1. In Settings/My Music the "Group Discs" option is set to "Treat multi-disc sets as separate albums," 2. The tracks in question do NOT contain a tag for Disc Number, and 3. In Settings/Advanced/Formatting* the "Guess Tag Formats" templates include at least one that assigns a value to Disc Number. This is based on an extrapolation from mrw's explanation of how LMS can use filenames to fill in missing tags, a few posts back in this thread. And my speculation is most likely wrong, but I thought it might be worth mentioning, since no other explanation has been found, so far. Re: [slim] LMS album definition from filename? Really.
To recap, it seems that LMS is taking album definition (grouping songs by album) from elements of the filename, and not just from the album name associated with the song in tags. This is an illustration of the situation, and a demonstration of the fix (which is just removing the initial filename structure and replacing it with the track number). Behold: 38830 The screenshot above (using the LMS webpage rather than the display on my mobile) shows the album structure in New Music. Note that most albums in the Transatlantic Sessions series are represented by a single entry, 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5, but those tagged as Transatlantic Sessions 6 have multiple entries; each of these entries have songs from a particular episode; all have the same album name specified. 38831 After I modified the filenames to take out the episode reference (all in the form of TS6-X - ), where X is the episode, all the tracks are now included in a single listing for the album Transatlantic Sessions 6. 38832 This is the track information BEFORE the change to the filename. Note the shaded area which is the path to the file, including the filename. It shows "TS 6-6 - " at the beginning of the filename. 38833 This is the file information after the "TS 6-6 -" was replaced with the track number "35". Nothing else was changed, and in particular no tags were changed. When done for all tracks, this resulted in all the tracks being included in a single specified album. Re: [slim] LMS album definition from filename? Really.
There is no difference in the tags. If I modify the filename (and only the filename) to eliminate the, for example, TS6-6, then the odd behavior stops, and all files are listed under one album. The behavior changes even though no tags are changed, only the filename. It's clear that the tags are readable, so LMS is not being forced to guess from the filename. All the affected files are given the same album name, but if there is that preceding bit of text in the filename they will be separated into albums based on the filename. Once that text is replaced by, for instance, a sequence number than they get lumped together into one album as is the intent. R. Re: [slim] LMS album definition from filename? Really.
I'm not sure I quite understand, but it's my understanding that file names are totally irrelevant to LMS. I've created separate albums for tracks that are contained within the same file and I've created albums that contain tracks that come from separate files. In each case, it's the same tag names for Album and Album Artist that made the groupings an Album, regardless where the tracks were physically located or what the file names were. I also use MP3Tag and I've sometimes gone back to rename File Names (or the split File Names to different tags), but I usually use the Convert or Quick Action functions to do any mass changes. By the way, I'm also a big Celtic and roots music fan. [slim] LMS album definition from filename? Really.
I have a series of DVDs from the Scottish/American co-produced series The Transatlantic Sessions, from the 90s through 2013. These feature musicians from the celtic tradition (Scottish/Irish mainly) and American roots musicians; they share common musical roots. The series were also released as CDs but these are mostly out of stock and no longer in production, and I've never found an online source for downloading. So I've ripped the music tracks from the DVDs. Sound quality is excellent, and I've left in some of the commentary for variety. My objective has been to have all of the tracks for each season listed as one album, e.g. Transatlantic Sessions 2, with some 45 tracks, and so on. 38813 In doing this I've discovered what seems to me to be an oddity. I edit tags/details using MP3Tag, and identify all the tracks in a season (all in the same folder) in sequence, with track number specified, and all with the same single album name for the season identified. For several of the seasons I'd ripped so that the filenames included a reference to the episode in which the track was included. For example, the filename could be preceded by "TS6-6 - ", for Transatlantic Sessions season 6 episode 6. I had originally been renaming the files to be preceded by the track number, allowing a sort through which I could then specify track number in the tags. See below for examples of filenames done in the two different ways: 38814 38815 As you can see, both had track number specified. I then had the brainwave that I didn't need to edit each filename, I could just amend the track number directly, which was annoying but marginally faster than editing the filename. I thought it wouldn't make a difference. Weirdly, from my point of view, this resulted in two different ways that LMS displayed the tracks by album. If there was no season/episode specified at the start of the track name a single album was identified with all the tracks listed in track order, as in the image above at the top. If there WAS a season/episode specified in the form "TS6-6 - ", LMS sorts them into separate "albums" according to this taxonomy. All the TS6-1 tracks are in one album, the TS6-2 in another, and so on. I can fix the problem by taking out the season/episode info at the start of the filename, which I have done, leaving only Season 6 with the season/episode info. You can see the result below, with Season 6 divided into 6 albums, but only one album showing for each of the other seasons: 38816 I wonder if LMS is set up to sort by album based on a value at the start of a filename, perhaps with a hyphen after the "album" value and before other information? This is not a real problem for me, as I will fix Season 6 when I get around to it by renaming all the filenames, but it is a bit tedious. Re: [slim] LMS Plugin - SQLPlaylist
If you go to the plugins page in Settings in the default interface (Settings > Server Settings > Plugins > Plugins in Material), at the bottom of the page there should be a checkbox beside "Use unsupported extensions." Check the box, apply, and you should get a list of unsupported plugins that you can install at your own risk. Some of Erlands are included, and SQL Playlist is one of them. Of course there is no guarantee that any of them will work, but as far as I can tell this one works in LMS 8.3. How long that will continue to be true is anybody's guess. I was going to reply earlier but was thrown off by "index build" and not sure if my response would have been relevant. There have been a couple instances where the mysb.com login credentials looked right, but when they got reented and lms restarted, Tidal access was restored. I was also going to mention to make sure mysb.com has properly registered with Tidal. but...sometime when you just take a big leap back and incremental steps forward to rebuild, you fix the issue with even knowing what it was :) Jim Redrum's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=33806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=116145 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] LMS not connecting to MySqueezebox - no TIDAL content in index build
I've been having a busy day. My TIDAL content is back again! I've no idea what I've done to achieve this! I decided this morning that I would focus on something else and would apply the Version Comparison patch to my three Squeezebox Radios. This required me to remove LMS from my PC and install a lower version (7.7.0). That all worked fine. I then uninstalled AVG TuneUp as suggested above. Then I unistalled LMS v 7.7.0. I uninstalled TIDAL from MySB then changed my TIDAL and MySB passwords. Next I disabled Windows Defender firewall. I logged back into MySB and reinstalled TIDAL there with the new password. I then reinstalled LMS v 8.2.0. I entered my required folders under the Library tab, and Account credentials and then ran an index rebuild. No TIDAL content - and I was still seeing errors in the server log about failing to log in to MySqueezebox. I then went to the web interface and re-entered my MySB password there and hit Apply - this forced an index rebuild in the LMS control panel, and lo, it has included my TIDAL content now. Does this make any sense to anyone?... [slim] LMS not connecting to MySqueezebox - no TIDAL content in index build
Hi there. I am starting a new thread for this as requested. I have recently experienced again an intermittent problem where LMS integration with TIDAL is failing and I'm not getting any TIDAL content included when the index is rebuilt. I posted some server logs which showed that LMS is failing to connect to MySqueezebox. [slim] LMS on Windows 10: does LMS load before login?
I recently rebooted my server and noticed that the players did not connect. So I logged into my Windows 10 server and noticed that AS I LOGGED IN LMS seemed to load. I remember reading years ago an article about how the tagging system generally adopted is pretty useless for classical music. I think there are music services that work round the problems, to a degree. And, as I said, the other problem is the untidiness of my database. The Brandenburg example I show illustrates the lack of album art in one linked album - but that album was a free download collected years ago from some record company. Naxos? It has only track numbers and no concerto numbers or movement names - I expect it was offered for download without those data. The Cathedral CDs are probably not in the main catalogue and that's why they have no art. Nevertheless, the plugin is a great resource. Thank you. Re: [slim] Lms
Cover Art Sorry if you know this but feel it is important to mention how LMS deals with cover art and the order it uses to decide what to display If album art is embedded in files it will use the embedded art from the FIRST track file it finds within a folder - having different cover art in different files is therefore a redundant exercise. If no embedded art is found LMS looks for the existence of folder.jpg or cover.jpg within the album folder and uses that. Competent rippers such as dbPoweramp can be set up in such a way as to not create embedded art in FLACs but instead to always create folder.jpg A useful online resource for high quality artwork is albumartexchange.com - account required but free. Amongst other things MAI can look up and display Artist images. If you want that - it looks superb in Material - then you can designate a specific artist artwork folder. MAI will then scan for artist images and place them into this folder. Usefully if it can't find an image it will also create a 0 byte file called "exact artist name.missing". You can use then manually populate with an image of your choice by finding a .jpg or .png of said arist and renaming it "exact artist name".jpg and delete the .missing file accordingly. This is OK if you are running a system which makes no use of internet services or external connections. However if you do use internet services then the need to update (regularly not necessarily "constantly") can vary from system required changes to SSL/TLS (e.g. Heartbleed, TLS 1.1,1.2 downgrades ), to better support of podcasts or to support changes in internet service such as Tidal, Deezer, Accuradio etc. If you do not update often services break or at worst leave your home network system open to a cyber attack or theft of personal details. For the last 2 years, many users have posted "my favorite station just stopped playing" and very often it is because their system (OS and/or LMS) is not up to date. If the LMS is there for a dependent, often the dependent will not complain and not say anything and suffer the lack of service. bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=115782 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

My LMS runs on a Pi3. It sits there working, no maintenance, updates don't happen at all because they don't need to happen. It's still running piCorePlayer version 4.something, because it does what's required, isn't broken and therefore doesn't need fixing. I've never understood why people feel the need to constantly update perfectly working systems. PS. The Pi3 has more than enough grunt to run DRC. Perhaps lucky as well, but have run the server on Windows since my first Squeezebox in 2004 without any OS-specific issues. I ordered a couple of Raspiaudio Muse Proto boards from Amazon.de because Amazon.co.uk didn't list any stock. They're due to arrive on Monday, having started their journey in or near Barcelona. They're now undergoing customs clearance in Mouscron in Belgium. I have no idea whether I'll have any extra to pay. Shipping was only 4 Euro for the two. chill's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10839 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=115782 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Possibly the easiest, but if someone is prepared to consider configuring a NAS then ease and cost might be in the balance. PiCorePlayer on a Raspberry Pi might hit the sweetspot and therefore qualify as the "best" asked for; being not too expensive, not too difficult to manage and very reliable. Sorry, but I've never used the delay option with SOX, so I don't have direct experience with how it might behave. Nor am I keen on fiddling around with my own custom-convert file to try it out, so I'm afraid you'll have to conduct your own experiments. nils92 wrote: > I tried to sort things out with the sox manual, but to say the truth > with my level of knowledge I'm having a bit of a hard time, as I do not > find that instructions such as "multi-threaded", "no-clobber" are very > much explicited... multi-threaded just tells SOX to use multiple cores to do its processing, if the CPU you're using has them, which might speed up processing a touch. You don't have to include that option. no-clobber causes SOX to prompt before overwriting an output file, which is generally a good option to include. But in the context of using it with LMS, it's pretty much redundant. Can't hurt to include it, though. Thanks cliveb, I'm progressing ! I managed to create an effective custom-convert file through SSH, and so could test your code. But, when using for instance the instruction in the line code, I do indeed have a time delay effect of 1s, but this time delay is not applied to the right speaker as opposed to the left one, as I would need it to. Instead, it generates an echo of 1s of the audio stream for both left and right speakers. So left and right remain aligned. Perhaps "channel 1" is not pointing to left speaker, and "channel 2" to right speaker ? I tried to sort things out with the sox manual, but to say the truth with my level of knowledge I'm having a bit of a hard time, as I do not find that instructions such as "multi-threaded", "no-clobber" are very much explicited... I'll let it sleep overnight before coming back to it ;-) And by the way, indeed no use of C-3PO to run Sox. nils92's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=72184 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=115289 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
