Thank you for your suggestions. I have changed my settings to receive
individual emails instead of the digest and I think that probably will help.
This is my first time in a Yahoo group - my other group (Feline Diabetes) has
their own site and it is really easy for someone like me! Thank you again~
PS - (If I have a question like this (that is not related to the cats) is
there another place I am supposed to post it or is the same board/address used
for all topics?)

I am Glad he is doing better. The FHV is a chronic conditions that flares up
when a cat is stressed. A cat with FELV is less able to fight the virus off.
Junior has had this latest URI since summer. Yes he snorts, sometimes coughs
after purring. He still eats well and is of good weight. I always panic over
any new symptom. I need to stp doing that. Give BooBoo lots of love.

Re: coughing

2008-02-22 Thread Lynne
Sally, when you refer to herpes which herpes virus are you referring to, the
one that is sexually transmitted or the one that causes cold sores. I just
noticed today that BooBoo seems to have a bit of a discharge from his eyes,
nothing I would personally be alarmed about, kind of like any other animal that
gets a bit of gunk in his eyes. We've started him back on his Doxycycline
because the breathing issue seems to have settled. My vet didn't bother to
culture the fluid on his lungs so who knows what we are dealing with here.
Like I've said, I really like this vet on a personal level but he is so
determined that Boo is going to die, TODAY, that in my opinion he isn't being
conscientious enough. Every time we talk to him or see him, he says the same
thing, "you understand that this is the end stage" and he doesn't really seem
to want to save him. Gosh, even this very cynical doctor in our building at
work asked me about him yesterday and told me to offer as much paliative care
as is reasonable before euthanizing him. This doc is so funny. He took time
off work to go and assist in the spaying of his dog along with his vet.

I don't know if you have access to Recovery food but it is the only thing our
BooBoo will eat and he eats a good amount of it. The main ingredient is
chicken liver and fish oil. I tried giving him regular chicken liver but he
turned his nose up at it. It's 2 bucks a can. I think it's a good deal though
because a little seems to fill him up. Our other pig cat will eat anything you
put in front of him, except this, fortunately.

This sounds like what I am going through with Junior. He is now off
antibiotics and getting chlorpheneramine to relieve congestion. He is about the
same after a month. I think his is herpes as well. He also has the eye crud
typical of herpes. He has been receiving L Lysine for over a year. I can only
assume it slows the herpes virus down.

A little over a month ago I decided to change his canned catfood. He is now
eating Blue Buffalo Spa Selects. He likes the fishy kinds the most. He was
having issues with his coat and this was a test to see if it helped. His fur
was all over the house and always came out in clumps. I am happy to report he
is no longer losing fur in clumps. His coat is still scruffy as my vet calls
it, but I think that is more a grooming issue. Before he was on canned IAMS. He
still free feeds on IAMS multicat. I have se veral porkers in the house, I was
hoping this would help. Not sure it has made any difference other than the
catfood bill going up. I need to weigh one of them to see.

him out in the patio twice a day for fresh air and nature. He's really
enjoying it. He watches and listens to the birds for about 10 to 15

walked into the living room after his outdoor adventure, which is
unusual, and was waving his tail in Lennie's face who was sleeping on

in front of it, put his head between his paws and sulked until Bob came
up and encouraged him to eat. It's getting ridiculous. He wants both

Re: BooBoo is home!!

2008-02-22 Thread dede hicken
Lynn,
I am so happy BooBoo is doing OK. My little Ki who
died in June came from the same kind of place. I only
had him for a yr, but it was a good year, and he knew
what it was to be loved and wanted. Forget the past.
I know there are many people who can help you on this
list. I was a novice (still am) but I was going to
try the IR on Ki. I was impressed with the stuff I
read about it. Go for all you can as long as Boo is
comfortable. Bless you all.

Re: Austin, TX - Feline Leukemia kitty needs home

2008-02-22 Thread Kelley Saveika
I seriously doubt it. Sheila is very against mixing FELV+ and -, and I
don't think with the polictical climate as it is at this time here I would
be the right one to suggest that to them. People aren't educated here, and
I am not the one to educate them right now.

Feline Leukemia Kitty Needs Home
Tommy is a one-year-old orange and white Tabby that came to our apartment on
a cold and rainy night 5 weeks ago. His cry from being cold, wet and hungry
filled the silence of the night. When I picked him up I could feel his bones
and ribs, took him inside and fed him immediately. We opened our home and
heart to him and he rewarded us with smiles and a gentle kind nature.
Duchess, our housecat and previous stray, tolerated him but wasn't too happy
to share her things with him. He humbly accepted his subservient role as
houseguest. Last week our vet informed us that Tommy was positive for the
FELV virus and suggested euthanasia. We were shocked and devastated. He
shows no signs of being sick and we were told he couldn't be around Duchess
our housecat anymore. We are retired and live in a 1-bedroom apartment here
in east Texas and have no extra room to confine Tommy while we find him a
new home. He is being housed at the vets in quarantine and time is running
out for him. Tommy is not neutered yet but otherwise seems to be in good
health since we took him in. We love this beautiful, playful little doll and
are heartsick over this latest death sentence. People aren't put to sleep
for having a chronic illness so why are these innocent beautiful babies
abandoned because they aren't in perfect health? I've cried buckets of tears
for our Tommy, and tried for a week to find him a home as his time on this
earth is running out. Please, if anyone out there knows who we can contact

Check with another vet just to make sure yours is up to date.

keeping him going.

I so sympathize with how you are feeling. I've stopped reading and
am only going on the information I see on this list from people who
are familiar with these cats. I too look at my little guy and can't
believe this is happening. I swear I'm still in denial. To look at
him you would think he is the most beautiful healthy cat alive. I'm
tellin you it's taking its toll on me. I am so bloody tired
anymore, just worrying about him. On the other hand the 19 year old
healthy guy seems to have new life injected into him. He's all
mouthy and affectionate lately.

It's a good thing that he's active and playful. I personally would
not start immunoregulin until there was reason to. My positive cat
is on nothing now, besides premium food and lysine.

As long as she's doing well she could be around for quite a while. My

Well, Isabella's blood work came back mostly good. Her white blood count is

Her FELV test from yesterday came back positive (this is her third positive
test). Disappointing but not surprising.
Her vet is having us stop giving the pain med and wants to reduce the pred
if things go well with discontinuing the tramadal.
All in all her vet is pleased with her current health and appearance.

E-Mail Help

2008-02-22 Thread Sue Koren
Hello everyone -
I think my computer is blocking out the e-mails from this site. Yesterday I
got nothing that I could read, but there were some e-mails coming through with
nothing in the "from" column and "no subject" in the subject column. Those
were coming with the same frequency as the FeLV e-mails usually come, and they
just started yesterday. I have never gotten that type of thing before the FeLV
e-mails stopped coming. I don't think I did anything different on my computer.
Also, today some old FeLV messages came through, ones from last week judging
from the subjects being discussed, that I had not gotten then.
I would really like to get this working again, the advise from this group helps
so much. If anyone has any suggestions, please e-mail me direct. [EMAIL

Thank you,
Sue

My Mandy is also "on" nothing but Wellness food and lysine. My vet's opinion
is not to start immunoregulin until there is an actually reason (symptom) to do
so.
