Hello Dark: So I also tell you as a professional musician myself how can you learn and analyze pieces like Rachmaninnoffs Second Concerto with tupplets of dozens of notes in one beat in both hands without reading it? Are you superman? And if we don't need to read, why sighted musicians use scores. They have the same ears as we do? How can you follow a university lesson of analysis in music without the braille score: will you take a piece with hundreds of bars and you will remember all notes of all voices, all articulations, fingerings, text notes etc. I don't understand why we blind people want to be diffrent if we can play the card of integration. I am playing with a group, everyone has a score. We say we will start from bar 38, I have my electronic braille score on my braille display (I type 38 on the search box and I am there. Why do I have to be different? As my friend Bill McCann from DancingDots says, it is always sad when young blind musicians have to leave music university because of their lack of knowledge in music braille. And believe me, he knows about some stories. I really would like to know how can we make classical music performance in a professional level knowing that sighted musicians use scores since hundreds of years and by that they have all the access to the information, composers autographs, all articulations etc etc. Don't you know that sometime playing unproperly articulations in one musical phrase is enough to loose a competition or get bad records from music critics in newspapers? For a braille display you need a software to use it which you don't have to pay a cent for getting it: For Windows you have Nvda, for Apple products you use Voiceover, for Android you use Talkback, for Lynux you use Orca. Re: [Audyssey] The cost of Braille Displays
There is at least one braille display cheapper than the Focus 14. It is the BraillePen 12 from Harpo which is made in Poland. In Harpo they claim it is less than one thousand dollars. I own a Focus 14 and really I love it. It's small, light, it feets in pocket and I have braille everywhere. If we talk about price vc quolity probably the Focus 14 is unbeatable. I also heard about cheap braille displays made in India but I don't know much about it. Back in the day I always use to take my Braille N' Speak with me every where I went, and could look up notes, shopping lists, and even had custom menus I copied down from the print menus so I would have a copy to look at. It is possible some deaf-blind customers may choose to do something similar and have a notetaker and braille display on hand just to use their notetaker as a notetaker where a sighted person might keep such information on their phone or tablet. I don't doubt that carrying a braille display around is a major inconvenience, but we are talking about an extra disability that you or I don't have. A deaf-blind person can't simply pick up an iPhone, Android phone, and use it with speech as you or I could. So that person probably needs a braille display close at hand in order to operate any number of electronic devices a blind person would otherwise use with speech output. Cheers! Re: [Audyssey] the cost of documentation - Re: Somepracticalquestionsreguarding the Monopoly game
I also would like to give my opinion: For me when we talk about braille we now adays have to include Braille as a whole language both for paper and electronic braille displays. For me Braille is literacy and can never be replaced. The blind person should be able to write and read like everyone else. Now the question is the cost, timing and volume of braille hard copies. About this, I believe the braille production in hard books will be substancially reduced with the lack of need, lack of space to store it both at home and libraries, the speed of production and with the global crysis. ..But for me braille is also what we can read in braille displays and also the speed we get with braille writing using the same braille keyboards. For example when a book is produced and put available on the Kindle App for IOS, I can have it some minutes later fully in braille because I can read it with my braille displays And I like to be able to read, to feel the touch of letters and have the sensation of reading. The key point here is the cost of braille displays. No matter what we say, they still are very expensive and not affordable so that we could talk about the global spreading of braille. It's true that manufacturers of braille displays are trying to reduce the costs- For example a Focus 14 in the US costs 1295 if they didn't change it. I have one myself and really the quolity of this product is amazing. The braille is great, bluetooth capacities, quite keyboard. Also when we talk about braille we should remember products like Braille Pen from Harpo which is a braille keyboard that costs around 250 Euros. This product really speeds up the braille writing for a lot of people. So people who like braille like I do, should be also allowed to use braille in a daily basis. I use braille everyday but I rarely touch a braille hard copy of any kind of documents. I only use electronic braille. Now as a professional musician and music teacher I can say that no matter what people say, blind people who want to seriously learn music specially about classic pieces they will always need to learn braille music and who ever says the opposite either is not knowledgable enough or is not serious. It's true than in letters braille can be replaced but in music, it can not. So braille is there for a longtime the point is that the way which we are using is developping. Cheers, Jorge Em 12/12/2013 13:34, dark escreveu: I think the best example of braille size was my schools copy of the pocket dictionary in braille. After reading the article and seeing your feedback, I can't help but nod my head in agreement. It got me to thinking about a perennial problem with so-called blind sports, and I wonder what the solution is. If this strays too far from the realm of accessible gaming, please feel free to steer the topic back in a more suitable direction. In all blind sports I have seen--goal ball, beep baseball, accessible cricket, power showdown, and now this--the common trend seems to be that blind players are forced to play only with other blind players. In some of these sports totally blind people even get a different set of rules than those with partial sight. Nuts to that, and I have some residual vision. The article talks about how tennis teaches blind people that they can do the same things as their sighted peers, but I'm having trouble seeing how modified tennis makes that case. Certainly I believe that blindness can be relegated to the level of an inconvenience, and I believe that given the proper training and opportunity, blind people can compete on an equal playing field with the sighted--no pun intended--but I don't know if that's often the case when it comes to sports. I know that certain forms of martial arts lend themselves to equal competition between blind and sighted people; one of my co-workers this Summer takes part in UFC fights. I myself wrestled for 8 years while going to school. But when it comes to other sports, especially team sports, I wonder how we could go about participating on an equal level. Is the answer to create a new sport that blind and sighted people can play together? Do we develop a new set of techniques so that we, too, can play pickup basketball? I don't know, but I'd sure like to find out. My days of training to be a star athlete are certainly behind me, but it's not too late for the younger guys. Sitting in on a few games between people who'd been training casually but consistently for a couple of years didn't inspire me any further, it didn't have anywhere near the breakneck pace and fluidity of play that unmodified tennis does, and that was kinda the appeal here. One person's take of course, it's all subjective. Not posting this to discourage, just to make sure people will turn up for their first session prepared for a long slog. Re: [Audyssey] Suggestions for Playroom
Hello. I am a regular user of QuentinC playroom both in english and french versions. And because I love it I have some small suggestions. In Uno game, I think it would be cool to have a more difrent sound between uno sound and wild buzzer one. I mean we can distinguish but it would be easier to have something more difrent. The same thing goes for the sounds of wild draw 4 and draw 2 cards. Also I think it's hard when we want to send a private message to people because we have to type the full nickname and for those who don't have braille displays it's hard sometimes to guess how to write it. For example it would be nice to write a command and have a list of people online and select the one we want and than enter and type it. Also another cool thing would be if we recieve a private message it would be nice to have a command like control+R that would open a private message allready set up for the person and we would have just to type the message. For example when i recieve an email and i want to answer, I just type press Control+R and I can type my message without the need of typing all the time the address of the person. It kind of helps in private dialogs. The last thing is that I really would love to see one day a accessible checkers game. If chess was possible I think Checkers would be easier. It was just my small ideas. I've attempted chainsaw twice, both times had it broken on the second/third hit. On top of that, it is already a hard weapon to use- since the sound makes it hard to keep track of loots or sombiez- and if you keep it turned off, you risk getting cornered, panicking, and killed because you forget you can't swing it without hitting that T first. The reason I'm mentioning it on list is because it contains a feature that many of you have been wanting for a long time, namely the ability to read and write in the registry. I have made a settings class which wraps this up quite nicely, and prevents script kids from tampering with keys and values that do not concern them. And as usual, the revision also contains a number of bugfixes reported by users. The next major feature that will see the light of day is joystick support. I have started working on this and am making good progress. So stay tuned for that! Re: [Audyssey] Game concepts BGT Version 1.1 Released!
Jeremy, i just wanted to tell you: please go on with your projects and go on with your own style of development. In this community the thing the people do best is to criticize without presenting any positive ideas. Your games are a big fresh air on this community and I would love to see you going on with your games. People can say that your games are short but some of them if they had the same ideas before, they could easily charge 30 dollars or more. If they say the games are short, why they didn't come up with the same ideas before? A Fsp multiplayer game only can please the majority of players and why noone did that before excepting the complicated case of audioquake? I understand why some people can be worried about your games because in my opinion it's not normal for this community that the best audiogame ever produced is still railracer which is 5 years old. Just my opinions so go on with your games. Because of my professional life and my small baby, I don't have much time to play but when I have some minutes I enjoy very much your swamp. Breaking my current habit might be tough, especially since I have so many game ideas planned or started, but I am taking these comments to heart and I will work on adapting myself to better meet the needs of the community. Re: [Audyssey] Showdown online?
Hi Philip. I also love showdown and this idea is just amazing. I am also willing to purchase this game! I just wanted to remind some correction for the game. According to the showdown rules, for winning a set you should have two points of advantage for example if it is 10 10, you should achieve 12 points for winning a set and not 11. Just my suggestion but i really like the idea. Re: [Audyssey] Windows screen reader software?
I know that we will never agree in terms of screen reader. It's like clothes, it's a matter of taste. And each person uses the computer diffrently with diffrent purposes and diffrent applications etc. I personally love NVDA and honestly it's my favourite screen reader. I love the screen reader on itself, and I like the concept! I think that blind people should pay for what they need in life just like everyone else. But the access to the computers is somehow diffrent because it involves access to education and access to emploiment etc. When you have someone who will employ a blind person and he or she knows that he will have to pay more than one thousand Euros for allowing this blind person working for me, he or she will probably think twice. If you have a freeware screenreader, at least you have the option of doing it otherwise and you have the possibility of employing a person for no more cost than other workers.. A freeware screenreader opens a lot of doors for blind people all around the world and remember that blind people are not only from rich countries. Allthough you probably don't listen them much on this list, there are blind people in a lot of countries in development. And nvda opened the door to them to legally have access to school and work. You will not ask schools in poor countries to pay more than 1000 Euros for teaching blind students with computers don't you? I don't care eif it's better or worst and even more, I think there is space for everyone. If you have a lot of money and want something extraordinary and wonderful buy your beautiful jaws! But others also have the right to use computers. For me NVVDA does everything what I need and it's light, eficient and suits all my needs. If you give me a legal copy of others, I will stay with nvda because I simply like it. Allthough NVDA is not competing with comercial screen readers, I understand why their sellers are nervous! And my last point the people who most criticize NVDA, we know very well why they do it and we also know what very often they do with comercial ones. Re: [Audyssey] Possible new shareware racing game
Hi Davy. I wanted to give my opinion about the article. Myself I certainly would be willing to pay for a new shareware nice racing game. Racing games are amoung my favourite games. I paid for railracer, and 3 and half years later I still think that it's my favourite audiogame. Anyways I still dream about a game with a season or carrier mode. If you would make a game with a season mode with a points system, nice sounds and nice sensation of driving, I would purchase it without hesitation. I think a game like topspeed with a lot of tracks and tracks that we could make for our own with random climate conditions for the races during the season would be absolutely great! Multiplayer capacities for me are not the most important allthough the online gaming in railracer was fantastic. Well as an idea I think it's great to build a new racing game from the scratch with new ideas and new goals. I just have one comment: I think it's approaching to something that would be my dream which is a racing game with a season mode with points system for example knowing that there are 7 computer controled players, it would be fun to make a season going through a lot of tracks and giving points according to the position in the race for example, 10 for the winner, 8 for the second, 6 for the third etc. And the funniest would be that we could edit the names of other players so like that the developpers wouldn't have to worry about that. It would be fun to have a season mode, with random weather conditions for each race so we would have to compit in difrent circustances in the run for title of Top Speed champion. Maybe it's only a dream but there are a lot of main stream games like that with a season mode: it would be fun to have one like that for us! But out of that, i think that the game play is much much better and thank you very much to those who developed this game! The problem that the football game has so many active action frames that getting into the game menu needs frames turned off to scroll through them correctly. In which means have the scripts know that the PCCursor is in a menu, then turn Frames off without opening the frame manager. If frame manager opens then being in the menu is closed. This is why there must be a Jaws script command to do this behind the scene. Otherwise the script to do this is going to be redundant have to reopen the say View menu after disabling Frames. Re: [Audyssey] The old Pb-games
Hi Philip. This days I didn't have internet because I was moovving so I was playing some of my old games and I think I've got an idea. From your old pbgames, I love showdown and I still play it sometimes. I think from that game you could create a new modern game and perhaps not very complicated to design. It would be fun that we could have both single player mode and playing against someone over the internet. In the single player mode, we could have difrent named players controled by the computer and with some tournament trophies and raking system just a bit like tennis or table tennis international competitions. And it would be gret to play over the internet against real opponents and also in your website, with statistics, a ranking and maybe with tournaments as well. Also in the game play it would be cool to be able to decide the direction and speed of the ball. Doing this and also with some improvements on the sounds but not much because the game is still cool, I think you could make a very cool product. I think I would pay for something like this! Just an idea. I think the gameplay, the sounds and just everything about this game is still really fun for me now adays. All of my old games from pb-games.com such as Tarzan Junior, Dark Destroyer, Showdown and 3d Snake were all written in JavaScript. The cause of this I know not, I just know that it's a fact. Now to my question. If I were to rewrite and vastly improve these old titles, would you buy them? I am thinking Tarzan Junior especially. That game had some good elements in it, underneath all the bad acting that I'm afraid I was responsible for as well as the now rather sluggish game play. So in short, if I rewrote this game into a good product, would any of you want to spend $30 on it? The last thing I still can do is try with my cd that I have to find because now I don't remember where I put it. Re: [Audyssey] Moving files to Dropbox
You have two ways of doing this: The first is, the case where you want to send a specific file to people: you select a file and then press right click, or applications button and search with arrow keys until dropbox. Then, right arrow for entering in submenu, down arrow until copy public link and enter. It's done, and coppied to your clipboard. you just have to past it wherever you want. The second situation is if you want to share a folder with one or more people: you create a new folder inside of My Dropbox. Then, right click until dropbox, enter in submenu and search share this folder. Then it will put you in the website: you just have to search edit box and type the e-mails that you want people to have access to this folder separated by enter. Search the button share and it's done! Re: [Audyssey] RS Games Uno and Monopoly
Hi people. I just wanted to let you know my impressions about this two games after two weeks of tests. Firstavol I'm impressed with how much fun we can get with them. I'm surprised that not many people are talking here about them. They are very nice games, with online gaming that works perfectly, with a chat system where we can interact with real people, cool sounds etc. In my opinion both games are really well made, very accessible, very simple to learn and use and with their development they are getting better and better. I think that their team deserves our support and it's worth to try because the games are fun, and because we play onlyne with real people we can have a lot of hours of fun. I specially like the scoring system of uno. With S key we can have the information of how many points have the players of our table and with that we can make a real race until the win with 500 points. See you in some uno table. Hi. I don't exactly agree with you. When you play uno, people are reasonable, and after all it's a friendly card game. You play a card, you say uno and that's it. Even if you say a bit later people understand. But this is not the case here. When you have a game that allows people catch you for half a second or less, the game (in my opinion) allows bad spirit and some random decisions because if a guy has faster internet connection allways wins the game. For me the spirit of uno is that you are in a friendly place having fun together and calmly you play and the player with better strategy wins. I think that with my idea, having two seconds for saying uno without beeing disturbed, the problem would be solved because when you have uno you can calmly play but if you are trying to hide it from the other players you can be caught anyway later. Hi people. One hour ago, I was trying to create a new account in rs monopoly. I followed the instructions according to the documentation but I didn't recieve any E-mail with my password. This given the better drivers more chance to be higher in the line ups. The game should take in effect that there better computer drivers. Then the judgment of how the gamer does would get a grade level, say A, B and C. Then when the line up is done. A rated drivers get a better shot up front in the line up and where the C rated drivers have some shot at sitting on the pole, but not a great one. Dropping in my note about getting Stock Car Racing accessible. Been a lot of work and fun. The external of the menus and viewing things like schedules and points is completed. Working on the internal parts now. Like the Cars are being put on the track and able to select one of the drivers from the past. Smiles, I think that is cool to select driver Richard Petty or Ricky Rudd. the hardest part is that the game has a system that no Dos game of its time had. The game was created by students in Indiana. Where by, they design a system to show the cars on a segment of the track. The cars only being icons, little squares that moved inside a grid. It's this moving, that makes it hard to program Jaws for.. And speaking of finding the drivers around you. AS pressing a certain key would be the way I will be using. For Tom's Race Way, if the Well is introduced in the game, the less you want to be banging on the keyboard. This is why, I suggest a play by play system. This could come by 2 speaking persons. The track announcer or your Pit chief. The PBP would be a time schedule event. When say going down the front stretch , the track announcer would be heard. This would give the gamer info of where he is on the track. Since many tracks are going to be oval and the track announcer would be speaking all the time, but you as a driver would only hear it at the moment when you are on the front stretch. So, this would be a schedule speaking event in the race. For the Pit Chief, could be random but also during certain import times for warnings , like fuel and tires. Also, when the car is not handling well or engine problems. The speeds like Race speed would be the announcer job with saying top 10 and the 4 drivers near the gamers' car, the 2 in front and the 2 in back or on the side. With this info the number of laps down or being on the same lap as the leader. And I could use Car lengths rather then by seconds. Then the Pit Chief could saying your gaining or falling back to the cars ahead when the car lengths change. And lastly, the Pit Chief also could help in knowing your position on the track. Using a sound schema, where by your Pit chief would be heard on the left side and the announcer would be heard on the right. The game should have a way to either making this option having them in Monnow or switching the 2 pbp around. The announcer would then be heard from the infield rather then the stands speakers and those with hearing problem may find having the Pit chief heard better in their better ear. But if not in Monnow , the voice coming toward would be heard and get loader, then fade away for the announcer. But for the Pit Chief would never fade away completely for long messages. For short broadcasts the volume can be adjusted to the point on the track. Smiles, and for Tom's game when you have made enough cash, you could by a Satellite radio, that would have a GNs that not only have better sound for your Pit Chief but a tracking position with a third voice say a lady voice. letting you know you are coming to a turn. Then again, though in that random event of communication breakdown and you do have to drive blind. Smiles, and the only thing you can get is the fourth voice of the driver himself reading the pit sign messages. These are just my thoughts and ideas for keeping the gamer more hands free with using a wheel or even using less of the keyboard for those who don't have a Wheel. The Driver's skill level and how to position cars in the line up. While I feel that Race Way can be a on going upgrading type of game, things like mentioned above and be added on later. Even if the game comes out with say four tracks in version 1, I be happy with that. A Trioval, Super oval, and small tracks. A road course would be a nice version upgrade to the game while additional tracks are introduced. I think even Charlie would agree. Just to help the game development to be shorten to finally see Race Way under tom. The first set of tracks can be used for different events

One way I could do this is put all of the free games on one single page divided up by developer which I think would be quite a lot concidering the number of games I plan to add to the free games section this weekend. Another way is I could have the free games page simply promptt you to select a developer like DanZ Games, LightTech Interactive, PB Games, etc and then bring up a page with only that developer's games. Re: [Audyssey] Raceway was The other side
Hi Thomas. One good solution would be to generate randomly the positions of other cars and making trainning session for the player . Basically you could make a practice session with for example 10 laps for us the know well the track, and train the acceleration, kerbing etc. And then you could make a qualification session which we would run for example, 4 laps, beeing 2nd, 3rd and 4th laps, 3 different tries and the best time would be taken in compairison with others. Or in another way, simply in the main menu, giving us the possibility of a trainning mode to feel the diffrent tracks and in the season mode, we would have just the qualification session. Another feature that would make the game great would be that we use three keys to give us information about which is our current position in the race, who is in front of us and after us and the distance in seconds. The numbers for example one to five, could tell us who are the drivers ocuping that positions in the race: A bit like railracer does in the online racing. Cheers. While I watch the ocational Nascar race and have played some of the racing games out there I'm not a hard core racing nut. Watching a few races now and then and playing the games now and then is a lot different then trying to program a really major racing game from scratch. It takes a lot of motivation, dedication, and an enjoyment for the project I really don't feel. Personally, I could care less if there is a qualifier before the race to find out your starting position or a set of random times to just select an automatic starting position for each car. I have to do that for the AI cars anyway so what's one more car right? However, I know if I don't add a qualifier some hard core racing fans out here are going to be realy disappointed, and knowing what I know about this community I'll never hear the end of it until I give them one. So eventually there will likely be a qualifier, but it is lower priority than the other features of the game. Right now. The test version that was written in C#, and is currently being ported to C++ simply randomly selects a starting position from 1 to 43 and lines the cars up in whatever random order it chooses. Not very realistic, but it works. On 5/30/10, Charles Rivardwoofer...@sbcglobal.net wrote: I'd start with all 43 and go from there. Re: [Audyssey] Raceway was The other side
Agreed. I am a fun of sapi voices in gaming experience. And I love to choose my favourite voices for games. This is one feature that I much enjoy in railracer and Jim Kitchen's games! Think about people who don't have english names. They will never have a voice saying any closer to their names. For me voices in games should be elastic and give me the information. Beauty is not the main point here. So if this is even remotely something we want to do we have to basically revamp the engine while I'm in the process on converting it from C# .Net to C++. For example, if you want features like a track editor, season editor, driver editor, etc that pretty much rules out using prerecorded wav files for speech which is what Raceway uses now. Instead of human prerecorded speech output, which is something I had planned on using, we have to rework the engine to use Sapi support instead. Obviously the quality of speech output then will be dependant on how good a speech engine you can afford. Speech quality will range from anything like Microsoft Sam to ATT Natural Voices or something. In other words what I am aiming at is fully customizable games, like you are suggesting, does require some sacrofices in terms of speech quality and lots of extra work in upgrading the engine to support future developments like that. It may require a complete rethinking of the engine design. There are pros and cons of using Sapi. For example, if I use Sapi the speech will be more flexable and would be the best solution if we are coming up with custom driver names, sponcers, tracks, etc. However, if I use english as the default language for Sapi then there would be no hope of a French, German, Spanish, etc language pack for foreign speaking users unless I modified the engine myself with the translation. If I use prerecorded speech not only could you customize the language of the basic voice package if you have the right TTS engine whatever you could customize driver names, sponcer names, whatever. However, if we are aiming for custom content then it would be better to use some TTS voice that a lot of people have so we could make all of the end user add ons compatible. The last thing I think we want is for one user to use Eloquence for his add on pack, another to use Scansoft Tom, and someone else use Scansoft Daniel. Having mixed and matched voices like that wouldn't be too cool in my opinion. So I think we all need to discuss this and think on these problems and issues before i complete converting it to C++, because after I do that I'm not going to be very happy rewriting a bunch of the core from scratch because some end user wants feature x months after i wrote it. As it happens I realy like Nascar Thunder, but of course it isn't accessible enough to really play. I usually wind up hitting the wall or plowing into another car. So when James North offered Raceway to me I took it, and decided to turn it into a fully accessible, fully playable, version of Nascar Thunder without any of the official Nascar logos and trademarks involved. As far as how it will compare to other racing games out there it might be easier to list its features, and let you decide based on that information. Basically, since it is based on Nascar, actually an official Nascar game, all of the rules, flags, and points will be exactly the same as you would expect from a real race. Unlike other accessible racing games you will be racing against 39 other AI driven cars so we are talking a full monty here not three or four cars as is the case with games like Poll Position. Since I am using official points and scoring there will be a full season mode where you must race a total of 30 races, and if you have the highest score you get the racing cup. What I am probibly not going to include in Raceway, at least not 1.0, is a track editor, online racing, and some of those kind of features of Rail Racer. While I think they would be good additions I feel those can be added on later. In fact, I might even create it as a sort of expantion pack that costs a nominal upgrade fee like $10 or something like that. That way I can try and earn back some of the money lost when transfering between Alchemy and USA Games, and plus build upon an existing product as well. Obviously, I've been hear a lot longer than you have, at least 10 years or so, and I've seen a lot of developers come and go. Some of them were pretty major for a while. Back when I discovered the Audyssey magazine and this list, this would have been around 1999 or 2000, game developers were just beginning to make the switch from Dos to Windows based games. The major developers at the time were PCS Games, Kitchens Inc, GMA Games, and ESP. I think BSC Games was just getting started too. At the time PCS Games had created a rather impressive catalog of Dos games like Monopoly, Kick Boxing, Panzers in North Africa, etc. Unfortunately, Kevin left PCS Games, and the market was shifting to Windows based games. Phil eventually acquired the GMA Engine and produced Packman Talks, Sarah, and Super Dog Bone Hunt. All good games, and is still an active member of our community. However, PCS isn't as active as it once was. As for ESP I think we all know the story there. James North decided to quit, turned control over to Josh, and it was renamed Adora Entertainment. Eventually Josh has some personal issues with a former girl friend, I believe it was, and he ended up renaming it Draconis Entertainment. While the software has been faithfully maintained and sold via Josh under one company name or another Draconis really hasn't yet put out anything truly new in years. All of their releases like ESP Pinball Extreme, the ESP Pinball Party Pack, Christmas Whoopass, and Ten Pin Alley, were all released quite a long time ago. I know they have something in the works for Mac, but still the fact remains when the company was still ESP James North was cranking out games left and right. Most of the Draconis product catalog is all James North's handywork. As for GMA I think David has been fairly active over the past 10 years. Considering the types of games he's produced like Tank Commander, Shades of Doom, Time of Conflict, etc I can certainly understand why there are long delays between releases. They are not the types of games a developer can slap together in a couple of weeks and sell left and right. They take considerable time and effort so I still see GMA as pretty major even if they aren't producing games left and right. As for BSC you said yourself what the problem is there. When Justin started out he and Dan were cranking out games like Pipe, Troopenum, and Hunter. Then, eventually Dan whent off to make DanZ Games and Justin got a real job, and no longer has time to devote to BSC like the old days. However, there for a couple of years or so Justin and Dan had a pretty good run. I doubt we'll see BSC make a come back any time soon unless Justin has a drastic change in employment/change in his work schedule. In fact, out of all the game developers the only one who has consistantly released games practically on a yearly basis and is the bedrock of audio gaming is Jim Kitchen. His Dos games were the first accessible games I had ever heard of, and he is still producing games on a somewhat regular basis. I have to give Jim a lot of credit for hanging in here as long as he has. I know far too many accessible game developers who have came and went over the past 10 years or so. First, there is the now infamous Bavisoft. For a couple of years they made a name for themselves when they put out Grizzly Gulch and Chillingham. That was around 2003/2004 or so. After that they basically fell off the face of the earth, and haven't done anything of note since. Second, there was LightTech Interactive. That was a company that was going very far very fast. It is true they had very simple games like Light Cars, Light Locator, The Horse Racing Game, etc but they were learning. Their games were improving, getting better, more advanced and suddenly the developer doesn't want to do it any more. End of LightTech Interactive. Third, there is Alchemy Game Studios. As many here will remember James North briefly tried to make a come back had a pretty impressive list of game projects in the works like Montezuma's Revenge, ESP Raceway, a mouse demo, and Max Shrapnal. However, after a number of personal

Re: [Audyssey] Time of Conflict problems
Hi people! I am definitely loving the game but unfortunately I am having problems! I noticed two problems: the first is that after some minutes of play, I loose all the background and feedback sounds from the game and I just can play with the window-eyes voice! And as well, when it happens, the game becomes incredibly slow! The second problem is the sapi: after some minutes of play, sapi voice simply disappiers! There is a FAQ on the Time of Conflict page that may answer some of the other questions that were passed on to me from the list. Time of Conflict from GMA games. Time of Conflict is a strategy game that can be used by the visually impaired and sighted alike. The goal of the game is to subdue the enemy and capture all of its cities. When a city is captured it will begin producing forces that may be used against the enemy. You may produce infantry, armoured units, fighters, destroyers, submarines, troop transports, aircraft carriers, and battleships. You may play on a computer-generated map or a premade map provided with the game, or by using the included map builder you can use a map you developed yourself. The game has five difficulty levels, several premade maps, several map sizes, and a range of games types from a complete sea battle to a land-only battle. Depending on the size of map selected and your familiarity with the game, Time of Conflict may last hundreds of time units and may involve hundreds of land, sea, and air units. The game was designed so that you can get by with a dozen or so keystrokes, but dozens more are available for the experience player. A context-Sensitive menu is available which makes learning the game much easier. This menu only displays the actions which are available to the current unit at the current point in time. We are currently working towards making Time of Conflict a multi-player game. You will be able to play against one to three other players in addition to playing the computer. Stay tuned. It is now in public beta and the download file is 20 MB. http://www.gmagames.com/toc.shtml --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. Re: [Audyssey] Raceway Thoughts
Hi Thomas. For me the best solution would be to use random names of drivers and sponsors on the first release of the game. Like that you could avoid copyright issues and also that game doesn't become outdated after the first season. What you could do is to set up the ability for people to edit the names for themselves and that they can have in their computer whatever names that they want! In case you want to update the game for yourself you could make a patch with the real names and sponsors and then the problem would be solved for copyrights and updates! Heck, if customizations are at all saveable you could offer some sort of pack with this information in. While I can understand that people would want the game realistic, I'd personally be against tying the game unutterably to real world racing drivers etc, sinse that streight out excludes people who do not know anything about racing, and would make the game hardr to deal with on that basis. To satisfy both parts, I'd personally recommend some sort of customization perhaps with a pre-customized version set to mimic actual racing drivers, just In the same way that in Jim's baseball game you can create your own team and players, using either actual players and teams or your own inventions. just my thoughts. You know, that cool racing game that has been talked about for years and years, and never seams to apppear? That's the one alright. Anyway, while working on, tinkering with, the half completed demo I thought how nice it would be if the game mirrored an actual Nascar season. Like where you could actually select a real Nascar driver like Tony Stewart, Mark Martin, Jeff Gordon, etc and play his season virtually. One major advantage with is that I wouldn't have to make up a bunch of dummy information. All of the tracks and cars could be created to realistic specifications. Obviously by using real life drivers and sponsors here I don't have to make up names, and could use drivers and sponsors true Nascar fans would identify with. The disadvantage I see here is copyright issues, and the game would be inflexable when it comes to customization since by selecting a driver the game would default to the driver's car and sponsor. As the game currently stands you pick a generic name like Tony, Roger, Bill, John, Jeff, whatever which is impersonal and avoids all copyright issues. Sponsors are basically a bunch of made up names like Burger Palace, USA Electronics, Computer World, and other made up names. Diddo for the tracks. Bottom line in order to avoid copyrights the game is rather generic, but it does give you the maximum flexability. This way you can select a generic name, the type of car, and select your sponsor. I guess the point of this message is do you, as gamers, want this game to be as realistic as possible, or would you rather it to be somewhat generic when it comes to drivers, make and mottles of cars, tracks, etc. Either way the basic concept of the game will be the same, but I can make it fairly detailed or I can flush out any and all copyrighted mnames or trade marks. Which do you prefer? Smile. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org.
