Hi,
One thing that deserves repeating with dragonstrike scrolls is the sound 
card delay factor. I started out using the optical output from my sound 
card, but later found out that if I used the regular analog output jack my 
dragonstrike life got much easier.

thing as a simon game where you've to remember the correct sequence of 
sounds and press the alt key to play the same sequence?  It's tricky to 
know how many beeps are going to play before it's your turn to press your 
own key, do certain scroles have a certain number of beeps?  This sort of 
reminds me of the bopit game, although I can manage that one just fine. :)

match the timing as exactly as you can, it's like a rythm action game.

Thus, you don't hit the key as soon as you hear the woosh, but the same
amount of time after the woosh as when you hear what the dragon strike is.

If you enter the menu while on the map and select dragon strike scrolls you 
can listen to each one as well as practicing it. Selecting Listen will just 
play the sequence and your Alt presses won't register. But each scroll does 
have a different sequence and some can be extremely tricky because each 
interval of silence isn't necessarily going to be the same length. Even 
worse some scrolls, albeit thankfully not many, seem to randomize their 
sequence with every attempt. As I said though you'll want to realy try to 
get the hang of it since some bosses, the final one comes to mind rather 
quickly, are only vulnerable to scrolls.

You're supposed to wait for a beep upon which you immediately press the
key for the dragon strike scroll which by default is the alt key. In the
settings menu you can change which key shoudl be pressed during dragon
strike attacks. So, in other words, you're not supposed to press the
dragon strike key immediately, but rather wait for the beeping sounds and
then try to get the rhythm of the beeps so you can match your key presses
with the beeps.

The tutorial has to be played through for every new game, however, when
you save the game and then restore it later, you will be taken to the
point where you left off, rather than going through the tutorial.

Hi Lori.

the way dragon strikes work is that you get a pattern of beeps, and have to 
match the timing as exactly as you can, it's like a rythm action game.


Thus, you don't hit the key as soon as you hear the woosh, but the same 
amount of time after the woosh as when you hear what the dragon strike is.

Exactly. You press the key after a beep, get another beep and press the key 
again. Claw KO, the scroll you're having trouble with, consists of a 
sequence of I believe four beeps. You'll definitely want to try and get the 
hang of it since some bosses are immune to your other attacks.

The tutorial has to be played through for every new game, however, when
you save the game and then restore it later, you will be taken to the
point where you left off, rather than going through the tutorial.

Another way of learning how to do the dragon strike is when you get to 
walk around for the first time press the escape key and go to the 
dragon strike selection.
There you can listen and practice the dragon strike scroll before you 
go into your first fight.

else having trouble? I'd really like to try the demo of this game again, 
seeing as I've gotten a lot better with directions and moving around in an 
environment where you can use all four compass directions.

My guess would be that either 1) You've got some really horrible
antivirus program that's breaking your computer, 2) You've got UAC
(user access controls) set to the maximum level and it's not allowing
anything to install, or 3) Windows is horked.  I really don't know how
to help you debug it beyond this; the easiest would be to check your
UAC settings, and see if it's turned up too high.  Most people turn it
completely off because it breaks too many things.

install ok?  Are you maybe trying to install it into a protected
directory when you have UAC turned on?

program called qRead which allows books to be read via the computer just sits 
there when I ask it to import a book from online, so I think something might be

Use a download manager to get at the file. There's a known issue with 
Aprone's web host that stops downloads, so you need to use an application 
that supports resuming stopped files.

For some reason I cannot download swamp.

 

Whenever I go to download the game, the size of it is reported at something

need to grab the small patch afterward, but that shouldn't have any trouble 
downloading from my website (since it is so small).

Thanks got it. Looks good so far. Can I make a suggestion though? In the 
instructions it says that the safe zone can be found by tracking it by using 
shift plus `. on a uk keyboard this doesn't work. I have to do shift plus @. 
Which is fine but it took a while to work that one out. Could the instructions 
be amended to reflect differences in keyboard languages possibly?

You can try opening the file's properties and look for a button or checkbox 
that says something about unblocking the file. That didn't actually do it for 
me, though, but you might want to give it a try anyway. What ended up getting 
rid of all the problems like it was uninstalling Panda antivirus. I've fallen 
back on using AVG.

Well Whenever I get a new system, I don't always kill uac right away.
Its good for security, and if you have static programs especially the 
newer kinds.

Its not good for people like us with old software.

Well uninstall dmnb and don't play it anymore.
I wasn't going to mention this on list or anywhere, but since dmnb has 
been mentioned I may as well tell everyone.
Due to constant bombarding with suggestions bugs that were not tested, a 
team that didn't give as much feadback as it should and a few other 
things, dmnb has been shut down for ever, and I suppose reality software 
may sease to function to.
I can't say I didn't do anything because I may have harped on about this 
and that and not played as much as I should though I can't be expected 
to play all day and night which seems was what was expected.
I had a few things on, which are now cleared up as of last week and I 
was progressing.
But it seems all of the complaints hackers and other issues have made 
the main dev get so angry he has deleted the game.

So just uninstall the game.

The reason most programs can't read UAC screens is because you have them 
disabled on the login screen. Turn them on there, and they'll probably work 
with UAC.

immediately, since most of the screen reader packages seem to not be able to
read those dialogues.

Funny enough, on my one windows 10 test machine, the new version of narrator

much immediately.

Not really - as I understand it is that access to contents of UAC popup is 
literally being denied, due to nature of user-access-control - same way, a 
while ago, some of the anti-virus software thought some screen readers were 
acting like trojan horse malware, due to them scanning textual content of 
other windows/dialogues.


And, don't really think logon screen activation has much to do with it - 
this was after had been working in main window/desktop area, and, since run 
portable version of NVDA, it's not necessarily too likely to cooperate with 
logon screen startup...?

You're correct on the portable bit, they don't even like running in windows 
that require admin rights unless you actually run nvda.exe as admin.
Installed copies will run fine on the uac screens. When you select to run on 
the logon screen, you're also setting it up to run on secure screens 
(because that's what login is).

[Audyssey] Problems when Playing games

Dear Gamers,

WHen  I try to execute the exe files for games such as DMNB,   I get an error 
that says,  “Can not find the path file or folder,  you may not have the 
correct  permissions to access this  file.”   and I go in to my programs  
folder  and try to run the exe  as admin  but it still doesn’t work.

What Should I do to resolve this,  I recently  formatted my hard-drive  and I 
am running  Windows 7  Home  Premium.

I would suggest the use of a download manager (free download manager is what 
I used). This will let you ignore network dropping out on you. If you still 
need a hand I can upload to dropbox, but can't keep the file up for long.

Thanks, it also says in the documentation to move my inventry to the 
transporter, I press the f key, but when I select the transport with alt t, 
then press the y key, I just hear the noise meaning the opperation has 
failed.  Not sure what I'm doing wrong.

[Audyssey] problems with shadow rine

hi to all 


i have a windows seven laptop running a sixty court bit OS of home premium 
32-bit. when i set system locale to japanese and reboot and run shadow fine 
with nvda and pro talker english installed and keyboard set to japanese, all i 
get is chinese letter japanese letter spoken etc, no interaction with the game 
is occurring. why is this so complicated to get going? lol

Well, it should not be that complicated... especially if your locale
is set to Japanese. Just remember that even with the protalker english
addon installed, that's the synthesizer that has to be active. Espeak
by itself won't recognize the language. I'm not quite sure why you're
having that problem.. unless you haven't downloaded the language pack
for Japanese.

Hi, anyone having any trouble getting specific mud  pages to load on the mud 
connector?  I hit enter on a game name and the page doesn't load.  screen 
reader says it is loading, but page never refreshes with new page on it

[Audyssey] problems downloading alter aeon from home website

Hi, I tried to download the alter aeon mush z client from the alter aeon 
site and the page tells me that the page is not avilable.  I have an older 
copy of the client so I installed that, but when I try to play AA, it tells 
me that there is a missing drop box link.


Anyone have the up to date client handy?

[Audyssey] Problems running adventure game engine

Hi Everyone.

I don't often post here so I hope you’ll oblige me.  I’m having difficulties 
running the adventure game engine, I keep getting directed to install the 
Visual C Runtime Library however this doesn’t allow the game to start, even 
after rebooting.  I’m running Windows 7 64-bit, JAWS 14 and use Iolo System 
Shield as my antivirus program.  I can provide further information should that 
be necessary, it probably will however if the developer could contact me I’d be 
eternally grateful, I love these kinds of adventures and have just completed 
the inquisitor.

a 4004 or anything today, either earlier or now, so goodness knows, unless 
it's either yourself and a couple of other people all! having brouser issues 
at once, or some shenanigans in whatever relays from Holland where the 
audiogames.net server is to the Usa which naturally wouldn't affect people 
in other countries.


I have occasionally seen this happen myself though, when a site is based in 
another country, when a specific isp goes down or when a major trunk is 
experiencing real difficulty.


that's one reason I myself use bt internet over here, their network is 
reliable, (a friend of mine is on aol and his connection is up and down like 
a yo yo).

[Trouble]

Open up the browser, and go to tools menu, Internet options, then 
move over to the content tab menu. Now tab down to auto complete 
settings. Just un check the box you don't want and ok your way out.

I didn't think it would be. Antivirus programs generally do not stop a
person from accessing a website. Although, it would help if Keith
would post the actual error he gets rather than assuming everyone
knows what he is talking about. The error code is important for
debugging the problem.

You could try the following diagnostic tests to try and identify why you
can't get to Jim's website, an then fix the problem:

1.  Temporarily turn off your firewall and anti-virus software and see
whether you can navigate to the site.  If you can, check out whether Jim's
site is on a black list of 'bad sites'.  Turn your firewall and anti-virus
software back on again straight afterwards without going to any other page.

2.  Check the entry in your hosts file to see whether the IP address
assigned to Jim's site is pointing at your local host.  To do this, you need
to find your hosts file.  It's location depends on your operating system,
but on  XP systems it's usually located here:

c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\

The file is called hosts without an extension.  Open it using notepad.  If
it's very large, it might take a long time to open.  When it does open, use
the find function in Notepad to search for:

www.kitchensinc.net

If that URL is listed in your hosts file, there will be a four part number
before it which is the IP address.  See what that number is.  If it's
127.0.0.1 (or something similar) then that's your problem.  

To correct it, you need to delete the whole line from the file.

If it's another number, and you're not sure what it means, then just delete
the line anyway, no harm will be done.

Save the hosts file and close notepad.

Reboot your computer (to flush the hosts cache) and try again to navigate to
Jim's site.

If this still doesn't work, you can try a further step as follows:

Navigate to your desktop and find My Computer.  Bring up the context menu
with the Applications Key and select Manage.  In the tree view, select
Services and Applications, and right arrow, and then select Services.  Tab
to the list view on the right,  and cursor down until you have selected the
service called:

DNS Client Service

With this service highlighted, bring up the context menu with the
applications key, choose Properties, and tab to Start Up Type, and select
Disabled.  Tab to OK and press enter.

Reboot your computer, and then see if you can get to Jim's website now.

Either way, you may or may not notice a difference in performance by
disabling your DNS Client Service; if you do, you may need to put it back to
either Manual or Automatic.

These steps are for XP but I understand similar principles apply on other
versions of Windows so you should be able to use this to work it out.

3.  If the above hasn't helped, you could try other things such as
re-setting your router but that's not something I could advise on.

I didn't think it would be. Antivirus programs generally do not stop a
person from accessing a website. Although, it would help if Keith
would post the actual error he gets rather than assuming everyone
knows what he is talking about. The error code is important for
debugging the problem.

Hi Keith,

It almost looks as though it can't find the home page. Try something like
http://www.kitchensinc.net/index.html
and see if it actually works this time. Also you might want to reset
your Internet Explorer settings to default because you may have
changed something that is blocking the website for some reason. Also
have you tried using another web browser such as Firefox, Opera,
Chrome, etc with any luck?

[Audyssey] Problems with Jim Kitchen's website

HiWhen ever  I try to go to Jim Kitchen's website, I get a forbidden error 
message.  Not sure why this pops up.  It happens on my netbook, which is 
running Windows xp sp 3 and IE 8, though I can access the site on my wife's 
desktop with Windows xp sp3 and IE 8 as well.  Not sure what the issue is.

[Audyssey] problems with wii game, the explore and the diamond scarab

Hi guys,

I've been hovering around on this list for a week or so now, getting a feel for 
things.  And now I thought I'd say hi, and ask a question all in 1 go.
Has anyone played the VI accessible game the explore and the diamond scarab? 
and if so, have you had trouble with the game constantly saying the balance 
board is not connected 
My copy of the game just arrived today, and when I tried to play it for the 
first time tonight, it let's me get to the point ware you choose what level to 
play. Then just says the balance board is not connected, press the button on 
the front of the board to power on 

 The balance board is powered on, and is working perfectly with  wii fit plus. 
Anyone got any ideas? it's driving me mad! lol.

[Audyssey] problems starting swamp

[Paul Lemm]

Hi everyone,

 

I'm a bit of a new be to this group but I've heard you all talking about
swamp so I thought I'd give it a go as it sounds really good.  However once
I open the game it asks me to enter a name and password which I do but it
either tells me that the name is being used by someone else (even if I use
something really random like lemm222 ) or it does nothing just goes totally
silent and all I can do is press tab to scroll through speech engines .
Anyone come across this and got any suggestions?

Are you sure you have the latest version? That would be the only 
thing I can think of, as you have to have the latest version to 
play on the server. If it really doesn't work you might just try 
randomly punching buttons and see if it takes that name. I'd 
personally highly doubt that somebody would have a 20 letter long 
name made up of random characters, so you might be able to get it 
to work that way. My reason for suggesting that is that the name 
you mentioned seems oddly familiar, though it may not have come 
from swamp.

Thanks for the reply. I've re downloaded it just to make sure I've got the
most up to date version and then tried  a random selection of 14 letters and
I'm still getting the message 'the name you have chosen and the password
doesn't match or if you are trying to create a new name that someone has
already used  this. Very strange!

I've got a lap top so I'll try the download on that and see if it
works.then.

the next update, the server was being worked on and it was refusing to create

Thanks very much for the reply.  I have just tried and it has started up
fine now.  I look forward to trying the game out.  I've not played many
audio games but I just played cast aways the other day  and it’s a really
fantastic game, thanks very much for such an awesome game and it sounds like

run out of branchs.  I jump up onto the 3rd vine along I think, then move to 
the end of one branch before dropping down to the one below that, then I get 
stuck.  I see there are vines off to my right about 4 feet away but nothing 
to help me reach them, think I'm barking up the wrong tree :)

You need to climb the vine which is really close to the quicksand, --- about 
two feet away.


When your up on the branche, go along to the end (check to see where the air 
is), then look below you and there are more branches.


Keep dropping down until you find a bush, and you should be safe.

As long as you climb the vine closest to the quicksand, and keep going right 
as far as you can along the upper branche you should get over ok.

[Audyssey] Problems with quicksand in Perlous Hearts

Hi everyone, I was on one vine and trying to reach the next one, but 
died in some quick sand, even though I kept hitting my right arrow and 
control to try and swim fast over it.  Could someone tell me how I get 
over it.  The documentation says nothing about swimming, so I think you 
have to get over it in the air, but I don't seem to be able to jump far 
enough.  What am I doing wrong?  Thanks from Lori.

As far as I can determine, you actually can't jump very far horizontally, 
only two or three feet, thus you need to climb the vine and walk along the 
branche.


To climb, just hold ctrl up arrow until you hear Jim grunt as he pulls 
himself over the top of the vine so that he's standing on the branche, then 
use the look commands to determine where the branche ends (it'll say air to 
indicate the end).


You seem to be able to fall anything up to 8 feet without taking damage, so 
if you look below you while on a branche you'll see others to land on. This 
seems the best way of getting across the quicksand, and also a good way to 
get out of trouble sinse tougher enemies like the boars stay on the ground, 
and there are even fewer chimps up in the trees.
