Hi Steven,

I will check out ABBYY Fine reader. Do you know if there is a free
version or does it have to be purchased? does anyone know if there is
a free scan program? I do like OmniPage, but I am not in a position
to purchase one at this time.

Thanks. Take care.

There should be information on their web site but I am pretty

I bought an Epson scanner which came with a free copy of Abby Fine
Reader I I think it is, I can check at home later if you need me to
but I was so impressed with that for a free product.

Hi,

I am using OmniPage version 15 on my XP computer and I want to
install it on my Windows7 64 bits computer. Using Jaws 12, 13 and
14, would anyone know if version 15 will work on Windows7? I checked
the documentation and nothing was mentioned about Windows7.

So, if version 15 will not work, what version of OmniPage version is
accessible with Jaws. I did check the Nuance web site and the latest
version is 18. I don't want to purchase it unless it will work with Jaws.

Any help will be greatly appreciated. Take care.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Amazon funkiness.

2013-01-04 Thread Lennie

Hi Rose,

May I make a suggestion? I created a spreadsheet with the following:

Column 1 is the name for which the password is attached to.
Column 2 is my user name.
Column 3 is my password.
Column 4 is the account number for sites with it.
Column 5 is optional which I use for other pertinent information.

I then copy the spreadsheet to a flash disk which
I keep handy if I don't remember a particular
user name or password. Believe me, I have a
bunch! Once the saved password spreadsheet is
copied, then you removed permanently the original from your computer.

Don't forget to update your spreadsheet on the
flash disk every time you add or change a
password. This may sound tedious, but I have been
saved many times over with this method. Others
may suggest a simpler way to remember password.

Happens on both windows XP with IE 8 and

I've noticed for a while now, that I have some
issue signing into amazon. If I click on Your

username and pwd. Only after I click on
wishlist or orders, or one of those other
personal things do I then get prompted to sign in. Am I missing
something?

Next, on my wish list, I cannot see a link or
button to remove things from my wish list, but
if I use the JAWS cursor, I can see a delete
which does remove an item, but seems to be hit
or miss if it removes the item I actually want to remove.

No, I don't use the accessible amazon site, nor
do I wish to if I don't have to. Anyone else noticed this behavior?

Thanks.

[JAWS-Users] what is Windows Ultimate?

2012-12-13 Thread Lennie

Hi,

I am in the process of purchasing a new Dell desktop computer with
Windows7. I was considering the business class which I would have to
upgrade my standard version of Jaws to the pro version.

I normally would have purchased a new computer with home edition, but
I want to avoid all the junk that comes with it and purchase one that
meets my specific requirements.

So, I am wondering what is windows ultimate and is that the better
way to go instead of the business class? Is there a way to compare
Ultimate with business class and home edition? Do I need the pro
version of Jaws for Ultimate?

One of the problem that I am having is to get the Dell rep include a
second sound card for Jaws. Is it just as well to use an USB sound
card for Jaws and is the quality just as good as a regular sound card?

Sorry for a lot of questions, but I want to cover all my basis before
I invest in a new computer and end up with something that I will not
be happy with.

Thanks so very much for any comments and suggestions. Take care.

Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS and Repair

2012-09-03 Thread Lennie

Hi Jerry,

Here you go.

Here is the correct procedure for repairing Jaws. Two methods, I
got from another lister.
Blank
Here is the info. Just change the version or highlight your current version
using browse.
Follow the steps below;
The steps below are the best, most in depth, and most thorough way of
repairing Jaws according to Freedom Scientific Tech Support.
1. Place a copy of the Jaws executible version that you want to repair into
the main root of the C drive. For example; If you are running Jaws11
most recent you would paste a copy of J11.0.1430-32bit.exe into the main
root of the C drive. To open the main root of the C drive, go to
the desktop, press enter on My Computer, press enter on Local disk C, and
now you have the main root of the C drive open.
2. With the Jaws .exe pasted into the C drive, highlight the .exe
, and press F2 as if you were going to edit this line of text. now press
control + C to copy this Jaws executible, press escape to close the edit
field, and press Alt + F4 to close the C drive.
What you want to do is place just the title of the Jaws version into the
Windows Run Dialogue box and not the file. If you were to place the Jaws
executible into the Run box without copying as you did as per the
instructions above you would have pasted the whole file into the Run Box
instead of just the title.
3. Now that you have just the title copied to the clipboard, press Windows
key + R to open the Run Dialogue Box. Type, remember to type a capitalC ,
C:\ without the quotes or
spaces and press control + V to paste the Jaws title, press your end key to
take the cursor to the end of the title and type in the following /type
repair without the quotes but, with the spaces . Below is what your line
of text should look / read like.
C:\J11.0.1447-64bit.exe /type repair
Read character by character to make sure you have put in the proper spaces,
Forward back slashes and text. press the home key to go to the front of
the title and press enter to start the repair.
A 2nd way to do the same thing.
1. Use Windows key with R to bring up the run dialog box.
2. Use tab key to the browse button and press spacebar.
3. Browse to the downloaded JAWS setup file and press enter key.
4. Use tab key to move to where JAWS says open colon edit combo, press
the end key and then press spacebar.
5. Type in /Type repair, (that is first type a slash followed immediately
by the word type then a space and then the word repair.
6. Use tab key to the OK button and press enter key.
7. Follow the prompts.

Hi,

I have a problem what I think it has to do with the Jaws PC cursor.

I could be on the desktop or in a folder with file names. It makes no
difference. When I bring up the desktop, the cursor does not always
land back on the Icon that I Started with. For example, I press enter
on my computer, perform my task and Alt+F4. When the desktop is
displayed, the cursor could be on another Icon instead of my computer icon.

This is the same when I go into a folder. I could be on a file that I
want to open and when I press enter on it, the cursor jumps to
another file and opens that one. This can also happen when in my
favorites. I press enter on a particular shortcut that I want to go
to and the cursor jump to another shortcut and bring up that web
page. I don't have to press enter for the cursor to jump. I can land
on a file name and not doing anything, the cursor jumps anyway. This
problem doesn't occur within an application like Excel or Word.

I am wondering if this has anything to do with the video intercept?
Perhaps the video intercept is corrupted and/or needs to be repaired
or updated? This problem happens in both the latest Jaws 12 and
Jaws13. I am using windows XP . I have a laptop with windows7 and
this problem does not occur in either Jaws12 13.

Does Jaws 12 or 13 use video intercept or have FS change this? Any
suggestion on how to correct this problem will greatly be
appreciated. Thank you.

Take care.

Hi Joe,

I finally think that my problem is resolved thanks for Freedom
Scientific. I called them today and the technical support person
using candem was able to fix the problem I think. I say I think
because after moving around my computer, it appears to be working
fine. I need a little more time to try it out.

If you can, give technical support a call. I cannot tell you exactly
what he did, but while a folder is open, he went to view and down
arrow to customize this folder and did something there. He was moving
around pretty fast and I didn't catch what he did.

Anyway, let's hope that I do not have the problem anymore and that FS
can help you. By the way, my problem is on my XP desktop computer and
my windows7 laptop seems to be working fine.

Take care.

Hi Melissa,

Here is the direct download from Freedom Scientific 64 bits version
for windows7:

ftp://ftp.freedomscientific.com/users/hj/private/WebFiles/JAWS/J13.0.924-64bit.exe

If you can, copy the above URL on a flash disk and when you get to
the laptop using windows, plug the disk into it. Assuming there is
nothing else on the flash disk, try to navigate to computer and open
the flash disk. Usually, windows will automatically open the drive
and I do believe that pressing enter on the first item will open the
drive and you just press the spacebar to select the link and then
press enter to start the download. I am not on a windoews7 computer
now, but normally you would want to save the download, but in your
case, tab to the run and press enter to start the installation of
Jaws. Jaws will start talking and help you to walk through the
installation. On my XP computer, I can only tab twice to find the run button.

Let me know if you are not using windows7 or if you need the 32 bits
version, I will send you the link for that one.

Take care.

Hi,

I downloaded the free CD burner from free studio and I went to install
it. I got the following message:

Setup
This setup requires Image Mastering API (IMAPI). Please download and
install it, then run the setup again. Do you want to download IMAPI now?
Yes No

I downloaded the above software and when I went to install it to
complete the installation, I got the message as shown below:

ASoftware Update Installation Wizard
Use this wizard to install the following software update:
Hotfix for Windows XP
(KB932716-v2)
Before you install this update, we recommend that you:
- Back up your system
- Close all open programs
You might need to restart your computer after you complete this update.
To continue, click Next.
 Back Next Cancel

I am really confused! First of all, what isImage Mastering API (IMAPI)?
Also does anyone know what is the Hotfix and why is it necessary to
backup the system? Did anyone run into this when trying to install the
free CD burner from free studio ?

I need some advice what to do with this. I would like to use the free
CD burner. Any suggestion and enlightenment will greatly be
appreciated. I am holding off until I am satisfied with good explanation.

Thanks and take care. Happy Fourth!

Re: [JAWS-Users] making a CD

2012-07-03 Thread Lennie

Hi Normam,

Thanks for your reply. I have burned Cds with other software on my
computer that were successfully installed without any reference to
having to install the hotfix with imapi. I was looking for another
burning software that I can use without using the Jaws cursor a lot.
From what I gathered from the list, the free burning

cd software is a lot easier to use? Am I wrong about this?

I do back up my computer with windows system backup twice a month and
I use Karen's Replicator quite often for my data files. So, that is
not a problem. The problem is that I don't normally run into a
difficulty in installing a software like I have with free CD burner
from free studio. So I am hesitant to do so until I feel confident
that all will be okay when I do the installation?

Thanks. Take care.

As for the hotfix it almost sounds like a windows update.
The reason for the message about closing all applications before proceeding
means that you will probably need to reboot the computer after you've
finished installing.
As for a backup you should always have that.

Re: [JAWS-Users] reading empty PDF documents in JAWS 13

Hi,

I am assuming that the PDF document is an image. If you have a
scanner, you can print the document and then scan it to have Jaws be
able to read the document as a text file.

I don't have open book or Kirzwell, but I understand that either one
can read the image file and convert it to text. I also understand
that there might be some site on the web that will do the same. Sorry
to say, but I don't know where that would be. Perhaps a Google search
can find one for you?

Hi Norman,

Normally when you write to an USB drive, you must safely remove the
drive otherwise you may lose data or corrupt the drive in some way.

However, if you just read a flash drive and don't write to it, it is

I always in either case do a safely remove any of my USB drive just

Hi,

I think that I have a problem that does not occur all the time. I
am using Jaws12, window XP.

I usually shut off my desktop computer by putting it in
hibernation. I have been doing this for as long as I have XP operating system.

However, lately when I come out of hibernation, Jaws does not
respond. This does not happen all the time, but when it does, it is
disconcerting.

I start NV DA to try to figure out what is going on, but no luck. I
had my wife look at the monitor and nothing stands out.

I tried to kill Jaws with jawsKey+WindowKey+F4 (is that the correct
shortcut to kill Jaws) and I use my shortcut key to start Jaws, but
nothing happens.

So using NV DA, I restart my computer and as it is starting to
shutdown, Jaws suddenly wakes up! By then it is too late and I have
to wait for Jaws to come back when the computer is restarted.

Is there anything that I can do to get around this problem after I

time I get off my computer and keep doing restarts.

Hi,

What is the proper syntax to start Jaws from the run command using
Jaws12 on XP computer?

Thanks. Take care.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Excel: reading content of column A

2011-12-27 Thread Lennie

Hi Ann,

Thanks, but I do that already when I do say word )insert+numpad5). I
want Jaws to speak the contents of cell A when I left arrow column A
as it does in Jaws12. This feature does not work in Jaws13 and I have
to do insert+numpad5 to hear the content. Just another unnecessary key stroke.

Take care.

However, with Jaws13, I press the left arrow in column A and Jaws

word or move out of that cell and move back into it to hear the
contents of that cell.

Is there any fix for this problem? Does the problem lies in Jaws

I know that I can do say word, but when navigating with the arrow

As I previously stated above, this problem does not occur in Jaws12.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Microsoft feeds? What is it?

2011-12-27 Thread Lennie

Hi,

I found out why I was getting that message. I accidently turn feeds
on by pressing CTRL+shift+J instead of CTRL+shift+K for adding place marker.

Thanks for sighted assistance, all I had to do is go to view and down
arrow to explorer bar sub menu and right arrow and then down arrow to
feeds which was checked and press enter to remove the Microsoft feeds
message when opening a web page.

Take care.

Jaws will tell you if there are new feeds to look at. You can either
look at it or unsubscribe from it. To look and stop it from flashing
just open feeds up.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Excel: reading content of column A

2011-12-27 Thread Lennie

Hi Ann,

When I left or right arrow (move left or right with the arrow keys)
for each column, Jaws announced the contents of each cell as I move.
When I move right to left from column B to column A, column A is announced.

However, when I am already in column A, and I move to the left again
with the left arrow key, Jaws13 does not repeat the contents of the
cell as it did in Jaws12. Sometimes I do this because I forget what
column I am in and having Jaws speak that cell again refreshes my
memory what I am doing. Hell, half the time I do not know what I am
doing. I need to ask Mike to get me an appointment with Dr. Phil.

I hope that I explained this more clearly for you. I know that what I
am trying to say may be confusing, but if one is not aware of the
difference between Jaws12 and Jaws13 in this particular instance, one
may not understand what I am trying to say. Some time, I am wondering
if I understand it myself! (smile) Perhaps I should call FS?

Take care.

Hi Ann,

Using Jaws12 on my XP computer, left arrow while in column A, Jaws
reads the contents fine. This is not true with Jaws13. I must confess
while not on my laptop using windows7 at the moment, Jaws does not, I
repeat does not reads the contents of column A when using the left
arrow in that column and that is using Jaws12!

So, you are right! Go figure!

I did call FS and all they can tell me that they redesign how Jaws
handle Excel. The person I talked to will put a suggestion to change
this, but I have a feeling that I should put the suggestion in myself.

[JAWS-Users] Moving Jaws 12 settings to Jaws 13 settings

2011-12-23 Thread Lennie

Hi,

I just installed the latest Jaws13 and I do not wish to use the merge
utility from Jaws12.

What I would like to do is to copy some of my personalized settings
and the dictionary from Jaws12 ENU and paste them into Jaws13.

I know that the merge utility will accomplish this easily, but I have
a lot of junk in the ENU folder that was brought over from each of
the previous merge since Jaws9 or earlier. Some of the items in the
previous versions don't mean anything anymore.

So, I would like to start Jaws13 clean and just copy those files that
I need. The dictionary would be the biggest problem to start over
fresh and I just assume to bring the whole file over and make any
changes that don't apply anymore.

Any way to accomplish these things or should I just bite the bullet
and start all over again from the beginning?

Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated! It would be a great
Christmas gift for me so that I will not have to use Mike's Dr. Phil.

Merry Christmas to everyone on the list! I hope that Santa treats you well.

[JAWS-Users] Punctuation

2011-11-23 Thread Lennie

Hi,

I just installed the latest version of Jaws13 and I am having a
little problems with the Jaws setting center.

I want to change some of the punctuation so that I don't have to hear
all the special characters such as colon, left brackets, right
brackets and so on.

The problem is that when I went into the Jaws setting center, and
search for punctuation and press enter to go to the list, I ended up
out of the Jaws setting center and therefore I cannot make any changes.

I would greatly be appreciative if someone can tell me what I am
doing wrong? I don't think that Dr. Phil is available for
Thanksgiving and I am losing my appetite for that big bird! Many
thanks in advance and I want to wish everyone on the list especially
the managing team a very blessed and happy Thanksgiving! Don't eat
too much turkey!

 Subject: [JAWS-Users] Punctuation

 Hi,

I just installed the latest version of Jaws13 and I am having a
little
problems with the Jaws setting center.

I want to change some of the punctuation so that I don't have to
hear
 all
the special characters such as colon, left brackets, right brackets
 and so
 on.

The problem is that when I went into the Jaws setting center, and
 search for
punctuation and press enter to go to the list, I ended up out of the
 Jaws
setting center and therefore I cannot make any changes.

I would greatly be appreciative if someone can tell me what I am
doing
wrong? I don't think that Dr. Phil is available for Thanksgiving and
I
 am
losing my appetite for that big bird! Many thanks in advance and I
 want to
wish everyone on the list especially the managing team a very
blessed
 and
happy Thanksgiving! Don't eat too much turkey!

2011-11-23 Thread Lennie

Hi,

I tried to locate the pogcast for convenient OCR on Freedom
Scientific web site.

Can anyone please direct me to that site so that I can listen to the pogcast?

Many thanks in advance. Take care.

Re: [JAWS-Users] launching different jaws versions

2011-10-28 Thread Lennie

Hi Kimsan,

I use CTRL+ALT+J for Jaws12, CTRL+ALT+X for Jaws11, CTRL+ALT+0 for
Jaws10 and CTRL+ALT+9 for Jaws9.

When I install Jaws13, I will make CTRL+ALT+J for that version and
change CTRL+ALT+X for Jaws12.

Speaking of the four version on my desktop XP computer, is there any
reason for keeping Jaws9 and Jaws10 anymore?

I do have Jaws11 and Jaws12 on my windows7 64 bits laptop where I
will remove Jaws 11 when I install Jaws 13.

I have not use Jaws 9 and Jaws10 since I started using Jaws11.

I am open for any suggestions what to do with my old versions. Is it
worth keeping them?

Many thanks in advance.

Of course there are no right or wrong answers, I am just looking for

Re: [JAWS-Users] USA today NFL scores

Hi,

Actually, what I do is save the original URL in my favorites. Then,
when I want to check a particular week's scores, I press ALT+Enter,
to bring up the properties. I then hit the end key to get to the end
of the URL and make the necessary changes to the date. I hit enter
twice (one to save the changes and one to open the web site) and the
web page comes up with the team's scores for that week. I hit the
navigation key T (as in tango) to jump to each table to each game
with the team's scores.

I hope that you will find this method easier?

effort and risk in porting this new solution back to 12.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Low on virtual memory

2011-10-04 Thread Lennie

Hi Doris,

Yes, I do have an additional internal drive D. I do not have the
luxury of having someone here to help me set up that drive for
virtual memory. Your warning is enough for me not to do anything.

My computer support is my daughter and she is over 3 hours from here
and she is very busy with her job. For that reason, she does not come
here very often.

I don't know if she can help me over the phone, but for now, I just
deal with it as it is.

Thanks for your suggestions. I will keep this information should I
use my D drive for virtual memory in the future. Unfortunately, the
drive already has two partitions with a lot of MP3 files in both
partitions and I don't think that I want to repartition it just to
have a third one for paging for fear of messing up all my files.

In the meantime, I will try to keep my system free of clutter when I
listen to the football game on it. I do run CCleaner at least once a
week and I was told to go into Internet Explorer and remove all
temporary files and history. I will see how it goes when my team
plays again on the 15th of October.

Again, thanks for your help. I really do appreciate your suggestions.

Take care.

Do you have a second internal hd in your box?

You can manually set the size of the swap file (virtual memory); the
recommended size is 1.5 times the amount of hardware RAM in your
system. however, this is a setting you should only takcle if you are
comfotable doing so and also know what you are doing. *g* If you
set this up wrong, your box might not boot anymore and that's
something to be avoided. So maybe you have a computer geeky friend
to walk you thru the steps the first time. Once you know your way
aroudn the settings and get comfrotable with it, this is not
difficult at all and i have manually been configuring my swap file
for more than 10 years and going back to win 9x..

If you have a second physical hard drive in your box (an internal
not an external drive) you can further speed up your system by
putting most of your virtual memory on the second drive, preferably
on a partition of its own so the page file does not become
fragmented. Again, though, this is something you want to be sure you
know what you are doing so that you don't accidentally render your
box inoperational.

If having the page file on a 2nd drive is not an option, there are
utilities out there that will defrag system files - and the page
file (virtual menory is such a system file) during bootup as they
cannot be accessed and defragged during regular windows operation
because they are in use then.

There are several good defrag programs available that have the
option of defragging system files at bootup. I like open source and
free and am using ultradefrag for this . And to get this back on
course *g*, Ultradefrag does work quite nicely with jaws. *smile*

Before changing settings, though, make sure your computer is running
at its best being properly maintained with regular spyware checks,
not running unnecessary programs and services in the
background, being defragged regularly, etc. and if you do decide
to monkey around with your virtual menory settings, be really
careful, create a restore point before you do, and preferably have
someone walk you thru the steps in the beginning. This said, I
monkeyed for myself but I have the luxury of having a fully sighted
hubby who saves my butt every now and then when I get in trouble. *g*

Good luck and safe computing!

last is to watch what is scanning in background when playing this
content. Between it and buffing the stream might run you out of ram.
This one may or nay not help you. Sense jaws has no garbage
collection on its self in ram. opening up programs puts scripts in
ram. When those programs close that ram usage is suppose to be
reclaimed. What ever fool works there removed it and now it loads up
on junk ram scripts. So a ram dumper or killing jaws and restarting
is the only way to stop this load up of ram.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Low on virtual memory

2011-10-02 Thread Lennie

Hi Brad and Hans,

I cannot close the program that caused the error since Jaws stopped
working and I cannot get rid of the error message. I have just power
off the computer and started it again to get around the problem.

The audio streaning is causing the problem filling up the virtual
memory and perhaps Jaws was also in virtual memory which may be the
reason why it stopped talking.

Aborting Jaws took care of the problem after my wife got rid of all
the junk on the screen.

I do have a lot of programs running in the background. When I listen
to the next game in two weeks, I am going to close everything that I
have in the system tray before the game starts and hopefully I will
have enough virtual memory to get through three hours of the game.

I suppose increasing the virtual memory could fix the problem?

Anyway, thanks for both of your suggestions.

Take care

[JAWS-Users] NFL scores

2011-09-19 Thread Lennie

Hi All NFL enthusiasts!

Since we cannot obtain the NFL scores with research it, I found a
simple way to get scores and box scores and summary about each games.

It is the same method that I use for MLB scores using USA today.
Below is the URL and for each week you must bring up the property of
the URL and hit the end (e n d key) and change the date for each week
and Monday Night football.

I hope that you will find this useful as I do.

Until research it working again for sport information (if it ever
does) this works pretty well.

http://content.usatoday.com/sportsdata/scores/nfl/2011/09/18

Enjoy. Take care.

Re: [JAWS-Users] do you still hear the clicks when install hangs

2011-09-16 Thread Lennie

Hi Eric,

I currently have OmniPage 15 on my computer. Does this earlier
version's drivers work with Jaws 13 OCR? Also, if FS OmniPage is
still needed to work with the New Jaws version, will it have any
effects on my version of OmniPage 15?

Thanks.

Lennie

At 09:37 AM 9/16/2011, you wrote:

That is the OCR piece. When you install JAWS 13, it will look to see if
the OCR engine we are providing with this version, is installed. If it
has not yet, we look at the User Temporary Folder where will store it in
the invent you need to reinstall later, if it is found in one of these
locations, the install proceeds without the need to download it. Since
this is the first time you have installed JAWS 13, it is having to reach
out and download it. The file is about 70 MB.

It didn't take much longer here than any other version but I did notice
it downloading something from the net much like Skype does during the
installation process and the file is quite large to begin with as well.

 Hi Listers
I do not have sighted assistance right now. I started the install
about an hour ago. I still hear the clicks from the speaker but I do
not know whether the install hangs like others experience. Can it
 really take so long?

Re: [JAWS-Users] is it a jaws issue when algt F alt C or alt V don't work in my download folder?Re: How do you do a repair of jaws, if the choice is not given to you on the install disk?

2011-07-17 Thread Lennie

Jim,

When I download a NLs book from BARB, I download it directly to a
folder in My Documents. I am on my XP computer now, but I have
downloaded different things on my windows7 laptop and directed the
data to other folders other than the download folder. I cannot
remember how I did this. I seem to think that I might have typed the
path in the file name before I did the save. Doing this will
eliminate the need to do a copy. I hope that this is what you need to
make it work for you?

Take care.

Lennie

At 02:01 AM 7/17/2011, you wrote:
Garry, what I wanted to accomplish is this. Suppose I download a
book from NLS. Well, that file is in zip form. I use Control C to
copy it to the clip board, and move that file into a folder in my
documents, with the same name as the book. Then, I open up the new
folder in my documents, and paste the zip file in it. I don't really
need control V in downloads, but the fact is, I have no function to
copy, paste, or create a folder in downloads. What I usually do,
when things are working correctly is, create a folder while in
downloads, copy the zip file of the book to my clip board and then,
paste it into the folder I created in my download folder. Then, I
simply move that onto my victorstream. So, it makes it easier to be
able to copy and create, and paste, while in one folder, the
download folder. So, when I hit Alt F, and hear leaving menus, I'm
cooked. I'll call FS Monday and see if they can help. I'm not sure
they can, but maybe.
As for the convention, I have never been. I'm so busy here, with the
restaurant I play in, and choirs, and lectures, I couldn't leave to do it.

Jim, I don't have the tandem feature, so I guess that leaves me out. First,
I'm not at all sure what you are wanting to accomplish. I went to my
download folder and did an Alt+F. I don't remember what that landed on, but
I couldn't figure what you were doing Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V for. You must have
been wanting to copy something to the clipboared and then wanting to Paste
the item back where it was. So, now you can see I don't know what the
mission was.

I should be here all of tomorrow, so send me a message if I can help in
anyway. I have free long distance service, so we could talk.

If you went to the convention, hope you had a good time. I haven't gone the
last two years.

Garry, is this better? you make a good point, and this thread did wander a
bit. I did a clean install of jaws and no change to the problem. I still
cannot make alt F Control C or Control V work in the download folder in
Drive C, that comes with windows 7 home premium. If someone has an idea, and
wants to do a tandem session with me, I'm willing. I'll call FS Monday if it
doesn't solve by that time. Smile. Jim

Greetings all,

Nobody is more disappointed to have lost the MLB option in Research It more
than I am. Especially when you consider the tight race in the American
League East where my Sox are doing battle once again with the Yanks and the
Rays. Anyway, here is the scoop on what has happened.
About a week or 10 days ago, ESPN made modifications to how they expose
sports results in an effort to block many different products that had been
tapping into ESPN to get the info in real time and display it. We believe
this was done in an effort to get more organizations to purchase access to
the data and prevent anyone from getting it otherwise. This will not only
impact MLB on Research It, but all of the sports.

We have been investigating the MLB site itself and many other places like
YAHOO but so far, have not found any site that exposes the information away
that will work. We are also reaching out to ESPN and trying to explain who
we are and what we are doing in order to see if we can get them

Hi Denny,

Below I reposted my suggestion to obtain MLb scores until FS fixes
the problem. I just used it this morning with the date for Friday's
games and I got all the scores. I hope that this will do for you in
the meantime.

I too cannot get my beloved team scores on research it. I think that
I may have found a temporary solution until FS fixes the problem It
not as easy as research it, but it durable.

I did a Google search for NLB scores for 05/02/11 since I wanted the
information for that day. I found my information on USA Today and
what I was looking for was found in the summary link.

I then did ALT+D to get the address bar and change the URL date to
last night's game and I got the information for my team.

Caution: when you go into the summary link for your team, press the
letter R for the radio button to uncheck refresh the page every two
minutes and choose not to refresh.

Here is the URL:

http://content.usatoday.com/sportsdata/scores/mlb/2011/06/24

As I said, it is good enough for now and no telling how long FS will
give us another update for Jaws 12 which I am using the latest build.

I hope that this will work for all of you. Please let me know if this
does not work for you.

Go Nat!

Take care.

[JAWS-Users] reading column A in Excel

2011-06-06 Thread Lennie

Hi,

When I am in an Excel spreadsheet in column A and press the left
arrow key, Jaws does not speak the contents of the cell. This is
bothersome since I want to hear the contents without having to do
JawsKey+5 or move out and back into the cell. I am using the latest
Jaws 12. This problem does not occur in Jaws 11.

Is there any settings or any other way to change this in Jaws 12?

BTW, this computer is windows7 OS and this problem does not occur in
the latest Jaws 12 on my XP computer.

Any help will greatly be appreciated. Take care.

Hi David and Gerald,

Man! I must be old! I go back before COBOL to
assembly language using IBM 360/30 with 30K of
storage and IBM 360/40 with 40K of storage. There
were times my programs ran out of storage and it
took some doing to make it fit.

Everything was done with punched cards which I
had to punched most of the programs myself. Those
keypunch operators had a difficult time with assembly language programs.

I even did some programming with the IBM 1400
series using autocoder. Anyone on the list ever
wired a board for am E A M (Electronic accounting machine)?

It is nice to know that I am not the only one on
the list. I must be the oldest one on the list though?

Ok, this is the jaws list not programming but I will tell you about the C#
compilers below.
I guess David chimes in when he's tired of reading about programming smile
So, this will be my last reply - please continue this thread on the
programming list.

The C# compiler is located in
C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\csc.exe for the 32-bit version
and 64-bit C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v4.0.30319\csc.exe
Csc.exe is a command line compiler, so you have to open a Windows console /
command prompt to compile and read compiler warnings and errors etc.

The above path is related to version 4 of the .NET framework.

I recommend adding C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319 to your
path environment variable.
Doing that will allow you to simply type csc.exe some_program.cs when you're
ready to compile your program.
If you don't add it to your path you'll need to type:
C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\csc.exe some_program.cs every
time you compile.
A bit cumbersome to say the least.

So, let's pretend that you've written the well known Hello, World! Program
in C# and named the file containing the C# source code HelloWorld.cs.
To compile the program type:
Csc.exe HelloWorld.cs

This will produce HelloWorld.exe.
If your code contains errors the compiler will tell you on which line etc.

Good luck!

For Python you need to download and install the Python interpreter from

[JAWS-Users] Headers and footers in MS word

2011-05-04 Thread Lennie

Hi,

I am using Office 2003 and I want too insert page numbers and
document title on each page in the header in MS Word. I also want to
insert a revision date in the footer.

The header should look like this: Page 1 of 21 (left justified) with
the title centered near the date.

The footer should look like this: Rev: 05/04/11

I hope that someone on the list can provide me the steps on how to
insert the above using Jaws. I am using the latest Jaws 12.

Any help will greatly be appreciated. Thanks. Take care.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Quicken 2003 and Jaws 12 with split transaction (solved) (Lennie)

2011-02-20 Thread Lennie

Hi Greg,
I am glad that I was able to help someone else with the same problem
that I had. It was very frustrating going back and forth between Jaws
11 and 12 just to use Quicken 2003 split transaction window.

I wrote to Freedom Scientific support right after Jaws 12 release
about this matter and all they told me is to find a script writer to
make the necessary changes to it. I didn't like that idea having to
pay someone to modify the script.

It was just dumb luck and a hunch that maybe something in text
processing was causing the problem. It made no sense to me that
Quicken 2003 was working perfectly in Jaws 11 and not in Jaws 12.

So, doing a comparison between 11 and 12 text processing, I
discovered the difference and I made the change in Jaws 12 text
processing and I came to be a happy camper that Quicken 2003 is
working like it should.

I notified Freedom Scientific and they were appreciative and they
were notifying their support team in case anyone else happens to call
them with the same problem.

Glad it works for you too! Take care.

[JAWS-Users] Quicken 2003 and Jaws 12 with split transaction (solved)

2011-02-18 Thread Lennie

Hi,

I want to share this with everyone on the list that uses Quicken with
Jaws 12. It mainly affects split transactions windows and perhaps
many of you are not using this feature of Quicken? This problem did
not exist in Jaws 11 or earlier versions.

In Jaws 12, the contents of category, memo and amount fields were not
spoken while typing the data in the fields. Tabbing through the
fields would only say blank. All that was spoken while pressing the
say line was the header names. (category memo and amount)

I found the solution for this problem and I thought that everyone
should know since it could affect other applications. I had to do the
same for Eudora. Here is what I did:

While in Quicken application do the following:

1. press insert+6 in the number row to bring up the Setting center
2. type text in the search field and arrow down to text processing
and press enter
3. Right arrow to open the general settings and arrow down to
enhanced edit support
4. I found this to be checked. I unchecked it and tab to applied and
press enter.

5. Tab to ok and press enter
6. CTRL+S to save the changes and press escape to put you back in Eudora.

Now, The split transaction window works perfectly in Jaws 12 just as
it did in Jaws 11.

I hope that this will solve anyone else's problem if they encountered this.

Jaws 11 did not have this problem because the enhanced edit support
was unchecked which apparently was the default. I guess that it is
checked in Jaws 12 as the default.

I would appreciate if anyone on the list will let me know if the
enhanced edit support in Jaws 12 is checked? I am just curious . The
same check had to be removed in Eudora application since spell
checking and typing the name in the to field (I had to say line to
hear the name even though arrowing down subsequent names were
spoken)wasn't working right either until I unchecked that field. I am
wondering how many other applications may be affected by that field
being checked.

Hope this helps. Take care.

[JAWS-Users] Cannot restart Jaws with hotKey

2011-02-11 Thread Lennie
Hi, (Sorry if this is the second time that I sent this. I got an
error the first time and I don't know if it went out.)

I am having a problem restarting Jaws with my short-cut key.
According to the HotKey program, it shows my short-cut key to be correct.

Usually, when I bring Jaws out of hibernation, and it comes up with
Jaws 12, I can shut it down and do my short-cut key for Jaws 11 and
it will start.

However, many times I shut down a version of Jaws and try to bring up
another version, nothing happens. This often happens after I have
been using the PC for a while and have many applications running at
different times. I then have to do a restart to get Jaws to come up
with version 12 and go through the process of shutting it down and
bring up version 11.

I checked the properties for both versions and it is correct.

Can anyone have any ideas what is wrong and if anyone experiencing
the same problem?

Any assistance will greatly be appreciated. Thanks. Take care.

Hi Frances,

The best way to secure your programs in event of failure is to use
Image for Windows. David have done a couple of tutorials on backing
up the computer and restoring it.

I tried the demo version which you can do for 30 days. You can find
out more about it at:

http://www.terabyteunlimited.com/image-for-windows.htm

Here is the URL for the download page:

http://www.terabyteunlimited.com/downloads-image-for-windows.htm

Here is the URL for David's tutorial. It is under the utility
heading, items 4 and 5:

http://www.jaws-users.com/audio/

Hope this will help you. You can also use Karen's Replicator to
backup your important programs. David also did a tutorial on this
software and it is a freeware. David's tutorial can also be found on
the audio page under file management heading and it is the first item.

You can get the download for Karen's Replicator at:

http://www.jaws-users.com/programs/

It is the 22nd item under the file management utility heading.

Take care,

Lennie

Re: [JAWS-Users] Quicken 2003 and Jaws 12

2010-11-12 Thread Lennie

Hi David,

Unfortunately, Using scripts from Jaws 9 and Jaws 11 did not work.

I removed the Quicken scripts from Jaws 12 and pasted the Jaws 9
scripts in Jaws 12 Enu folder and it did not make any difference. The
same is likewise for Jaws 11.

Thinking that I have to unload Jaws and bring it up again did not
change anything.

I have a request. Can you try a test transaction using the split
screen and see what you get?

Also, I try to recompile the script and I got an error. I appreciate
any suggestions if you feel that I did not follow proper procedures.

BTW, I wrote to support at Freedom Scientific and all they told me
that Quicken 2003 is no longer supported and that I will have to
continue to use Jaws 11 for all my split transactions.

Darn! Take care,

One more problem with Jaws 12 for Eudora users. That is probably no
longer supported either and there are some things that are not
working properly like it did in Jaws 11. I will have to use Jaws 11
for Eudora too.

When I got my XP computer in 2004, I installed Quicken 2003 and
imported my files from the old computer. I have been doing great with
each version of Jaws until the latest version.

With each version of Jaws, I never brought the original scripts
forward to the next version of Jaws. So, my question to you is this.

Did you bring all the Quicken files from the script manager or just
the JSS file and recompile? Since I did not copy the previous Quicken

I go back to the oldest version that I have which is Jaws 9?

Jaws is reading the register okay and seems to report the heading

However, when I did CTRL+S to record split transactions, Jaws 12
could not read category, memo and amount. All that I heard was
account setting and blanks as I tabbed through each field.

I had to exit Jaws 12 and restart Jaws 11 to correctly read the split

problems with the split screen and Jaws 12, I sure would like to know

I am thinking that the problem lies with the scripts and I did do the

the scripts from Jaws11 and insert it into Jaws12?

Any suggestions and help would be greatly be appreciated since I use

Re: [JAWS-Users] CCleaner Google

2010-11-05 Thread Lennie

Hi Mike,

Yes I did install the latest version of CCleaner and the Google
toolbar was checked to be installed automatically when you finish
installing CCleaner.

When you get to the page to press the finish button, I turned on Jaws
cursor and did a pageup and arrow down and I heard the Google message
to install the toolbar.

Unfortunately, placing the Jaws cursor on the check mark to uncheck
it did not work when I press the left mouse button.

I carefully placed the Jaws cursor on the check mark and press the
real mouse left click button and it brought the screen into focus and
the check mark was unchecked. I was then able to press enter on the
finish button and CCleaner was installed without the unwanted toolbar
which is to me a nuisance to us blind folks.

The people who handle the download of CCleaner are very sneaky!! I
don't know if there is a better way to get around this problem.

BTW, it was dumb luck that I discovered the Google toolbar during
installation of the CCleaner. What caught my attention is that the
download procedure changed and I got suspicious and I was checking
everything out with the Jaws cursor. So, there you have it.

Take care. Is this one for Dr. Phil?

Re: [JAWS-Users] Check writing Software

2010-10-13 Thread Lennie

Hi Bill,

I am assuming that you already have checks?

I have set up a system using word 2003 and it is rather complicated,
but it works for me. I'll try to explain.

First you must set up a word table with four columns:

1. the payee
2. the check amount (in numbers such as 100.00 no dollar sign)
3. the check amount written out as One Hundred and no/100
4. the memo or note field

Once the table has been set up, then you must create a file which I
call check format. This file will be laid out to match the print
positions of the four items mentioned above on the check. This is the
hardest step trying to make sure that the print positions matched up
correctly. I have wasted several checks doing this.

If you have a sighted person to measure the check for you, you can
lay it out using alt+F then U for page set up to set up the margin.
You also have to use format, paragraph to manipulate the exact
position so not have to print high above the line or below the line.

Once the format file is created, then you have to do a mail merge.
Alt+t, E press enter and select Directory and follow the prompt to
step through the process to merge the table with the format file.

Once you have successfully done this, then you must do the process
over again by recording the steps creating a macro with a short-cut
key so that the merge can be done each time that you want to change
an amount of a check or add a new payee.

I know that this is complicated as hell and a certain friend will
probably want to go to Dr. Phil after doing all of this.

One more thing, my checks are the business size checks that my bank
provided for me as a blind customer. It is called a sighted check. I
don't know if other banks will charge you for these types of checks.
If you are interested on what I mentioned above, write me off list
and I will do my best to help especially since I wrote this email
rather quickly and may have left out some important information.

Take care,

Lennie

a hard drive that have been previously
partitioned with partition magic? I was thinking of

re-partition one of my external hard drive.

Thanks for any suggestions. Take care,

Lennie

If I can be of any help, write me off list and I will see what I can do.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws and C cleaner?

2010-09-08 Thread Lennie

Hi Dale,

There is a way to save cookies that you don't want CCleaner to
remove. I hope that the following steps is easy to follow:

1. Start CCleaner
2. Press the Analyze button
Note: You might not have to run the analysis to get to the list of cookies
3. after the analysis is complete, Tab until you find the option
button and press enter

4. tab until you find cookies and press enter
5. With the Jaws cursor, arrow down until you find a cookie and then
root PC cursor to Jaws cursor

6. Arrow through the list until you find the cookie that you want to keep
7. Press the application key and press enter on keep
8. Repeat for any other cookies that you want to keep
9. Tab to the list of excluded cookies and you should read the
cookies that will not be removed.

If you kept the wrong cookie, while in the excluded cookies
list, press the application key and arrow down to remove and press enter

I sure hope that these steps are correct and will work for you.

Hope this helps. Take care,

Lennie

Hello Francis,

I have pasted a link below, which should give you the latest version of
CCleaner. There is a check for updates button in the CCleaner interface
window that can be used periodically to check for any new updates. However,
you might find it easier when checking to go to www.filehippo.com and
download the latest version of the program. When on the File Hippo page
there will be a link to CCleaner. It is usually under the popular
downloads heading. Follow that link and on the subsequent page there will
be a download latest version link that you can use. If the information
bar pops up use Alt+N to move focus to it and then use the application key
to invoke a context menu. Use down arrow key to the download file choice
and press enter key. You can then choose to save the file by using the save
button and start the downloading process. Here is a direct link to the file
in my drop box:

Take care.

Hello Kliph,

Have you installed version 2.32? The reason I am asking is that I had

version 2.29 and the item state was not being read to me. I started to

write a script but then I decided to download version 2.32 and the item

state is now being read by JAWS. If you use the JAWS cursor, the graphic

793 by an item indicates that it is checked and 792 indicates that it is

not

checked. You can move to the graphics with the JAWS cursor and use the

graphics labeler. Label 793 as checked and 792 as unchecked. I found

that using the invisible cursor with the up and down keys spoke the state

after labeling, but of course, you would have to put PC cursor back on

before changing the state of the item. Again, a simple script could be

used

to have JAWS speak the item state using the PC cursor, but if you don't

have

version 2.32 then I suggest you try updating to that version first.

Take care.

I'm using windows 7, and Jaws 11 latest version. I just installed C

Cleaner, and going down the list, jaws isn't saying checked or unchecked.

So I don't know what is selected. How can I make jaws tell me if the box

is

checked or unchecked? It works just fine on my vista PC.

[JAWS-Users] Accessibility of Roxio or Sonic

2010-08-27 Thread Lennie

Hi,

Is either Roxio or Sonic accessible with Jaws? If so, what version
works with Jaws. I am using latest Jaws on XP. home.

If neither is a good choice, what software will work with Jaws to
burn, erase and copy DVD and CD? I am not interested in using Windows
Media Player

Many thanks in advance.
