Iowans--listen closely, and amidst the din of rustling corn ears you
may hear the upstart thrum of engines piquing the interest of
investors and environmentalists alike. Hydrogen Engine Center Inc. has
seen its stock price rise almost tenfold since taking to the market
September 2. The company is set to move into a new factory where it
will be able to build some 4,000 engines capable of running on
gasoline, natural gas, hydrogen, ammonia, or propane using Ford
engines as a starting point.

Headed up by ex-FoMoCo employee Ted Hollinger, the company plans to
offer remanufactured Blue Oval V-6 powerplants (with revised internals
and a new electronic fuel supply management system) to commercial
corporations looking for flex-fuel power. With more than 60 million
Ford V-6s produced, there should be ample supply for Hollinger's
operation.

I have had similar experiences. Once, in Dearborn MI, in a blizzard bad
enough that I was driving my FJ40 in compound low on a major four lane
road and was still unwilling to go more than 25mph, some moron in a
Pontiac Fiero blew by me like I was standing still. Seconds later, he
lost it, and found himself traveling down the road directly in front of
me, backwards, staring at my tube bumpers which were of a height to take
his head off flush with the dashboard. His eyes were about the biggest I
have ever seen bugging out of the sockets of a human skull. I managed to
avoid hitting him. I am relatively sure he was riding a little higher in
the saddle after that.

Re: [MBZ] 240 vs SD Go

2006-01-08 Thread Brian Chase
Tom, You're speaking my language. And LT Don, I know what you mean with the
drivers nearly hitting ya due to their
innatention/impatience/self-importance. I drive a standard shift, and most
people are just not expecting that shift to come, and their headlights
disappear behind my trunk. I know one day I'm going to get bumped and you
better believe I will prosecute. Brain-dead behavior like that deserves
punishment.

While I haven't yet gotten to drive my 240D more than a few hundred miles
(but will soon - the engine swap should be done next week), I know too well
about this phenomenon simply because I choose to drive in what I consider a
reasonable manner. I don't see the need to stand on the accelerator by
default. Intead, I relinquish a few (often zero) seconds of my day in favor
of saving fuel, wear and tear on the vehicle, and generally not behaving
like a gibbon behind the wheel.

It's funny to see people passing me with white-hot fury only to turn off in
a few blocks. They have saved anywhere from 5 - 15 seconds and have shit on
their fellow man in the process. Driving does funny things to people indeed.

I agree with Tom. Let 'em suffer. If someone tailgates or otherwise
intentionally disrespects me I will go out of my way to inconvenience them
more. Conversely, if they show common courtesy and
intelligence behind the wheel, I will actually spend some of my fuel to make
their day a bit nicer.

With the 240D,
I've come close to being t-boned a time or two because I just wasn't quick
enough accelerating.

I say the rat bastards with there rock climbers will just have to weight
and

slow down. As slow as your (and my) 240D is it is still much faster than
walking or taking the horse and buggy. People should be thankful of that
fact. I thought the rural folk in Iowa would not be so yuppified as to
realize that? I do pull over into the breakdown lane and let people pass
when entering a highway on ramp though just as an act of kindness. Other

how quickly a gasser (especially a V8 pickup) pulls away. With the 240D,

Might be time for that S-Class.

Oh, I think so, Don. Compared to a 240, an SD feels like a
small-block 8 off the line. A few grains of sand or bit of dew on the
pavement and you get wheelspin, and a bit more when it hits 2nd. Hold
it in second and you can actually power drift tight corners with
nicely controllable throttle-induced oversteer. And I'll bet
high-speed mileage is no worse, perhaps better. Plus, at 85, you've
still got 17 more to go for top speed, and still feels quite willing.
 Shudda bought my 300SD for $2,500 before I decided I couldn't live
without it and kept it! :-)

Spout off time...The trucking industry is out of control. The worse the
weather the faster they go. Route 80 which is a big interstate (NY to San
Fran) is closed almost weekly in PA now due to accidents which involve
trucks. Basically a free for all. I read US traffic from trucks has
increased 100% in the last 10 years. I have tried to talk to some of these
garage haulers. Some of these guys/gals are traveling 600 to 700 miles a
day, 6 to 7 days a week (PA has become the dump for NY and NJ, basically a
milk run no wonder they are maniacs, familiarity breeds contempt) and they
drive those things like Porsches. Big difference in rig weighing 100,000lbs
doing 80 mph and my 240D at less than two tons doing 70 mph. Something will
need to be done about this nightmare...satellite tracking of each truck to
measure/report speed is one answer, but how do you do you handle the three
inches from your but stuff? Maybe separate roads? Only one good trucking
outfit which drives correctly that I see, JB Hunt and they have become the
brunt of all the other truckers jokes. I guess the other folks think they
are wimpy because they drive safe. Unless a highway merge is taking place,
they should all just stay in the right lane, trains could not pass, why do
they think they should. (truck doing 25 mph passing the one doing 15 mph up
a steep incline/two lane interstate f) We need a good diesel sky
car...do a search on the Mollier sky car, it may be sooner than we think!

[MBZ] anybody with a 603 3.5?

2006-01-08 Thread Kaleb C. Striplin
How many folks here have a 3.5 in a 140, well, or a 126? Bent rods?
Thinking about looking for another 140 in the near future and am really
concidering a 3.5 and risking the rods bending. If not that I would
either go with the next economical choice of a 320 with the 104 or most
likely all out with a 500. Anybody got a 500 and if so what sort of
mileage do you get? Probably better off going this route over the
diesel anyways.

Re: [MBZ] 240 vs SD Go

2006-01-08 Thread BillR

My ethics professor [too many years ago] related a story of someone in
Indianapolis doing a cross town drive with two versions. First he drove it
on a weekday rush hour in a friendly style, obeying limits and common
safety. The next day at the same hour he did the same trip in an
aggressive, take every possible chance to save a second, tail gate and 'win'
style. The result was a trip that took 45 seconds less than the day before.
That is one of the nice things about Jacksonville vs. S. Florida. The
drivers are nice. In a year of turning left out of out road onto the main
road we have yet to have to wait to be let out when traffic is slow. The
'record' for the year is two cars going by before one stopped to let us out.
That would have been worth leaving S. Florida/Miami traffic for.

Subject: Re: [MBZ] 240 vs SD Go

If someone tailgates or otherwise
intentionally disrespects me I will go out of my way to inconvenience them
more. Conversely, if they show common courtesy and intelligence behind the
wheel, I will actually spend some of my fuel to make their day a bit nicer.

Re: [MBZ] anybody with a 603 3.5?

2006-01-08 Thread Zeitgeist
You have quite a few more options available, due to your access to
lots of used $500 vehicles, from which you can pull a good running
OM603.96 to swap in, if your OM603.97 fails. I'm not much of an
S-class fan (too big), but I do find the W140 to be an intriguing
consideration...very tempting.

I would plunk down between 300-500, since it has rust. If it didnt,
maybe more. What would a decent retail price be? Maybe 800-1000 or so?

you would probably be better off with a '90 or '91 126 Diesel rather than an
early 140, as the bigger car will cost more to maintain and operate, IMO.
Our past section president here has an mid year S500, and has put a lot of
$$$ into repairing the self-leveling suspension. Its fast, yes, but fuel
economy isn't good. As for bent rods, most of the stories I've seen is that
if you either get past 150k miles, or have a factory reman engine, you'll
probably be OK with the 3.5.

Didn't I see a nice 126 3.5 on the list last week?

economy isn't good. As for bent rods, most of the stories I've seen is that
if you either get past 150k miles, or have a factory reman engine, you'll
probably be OK with the 3.5.

Didn't I see a nice 126 3.5 on the list last week?

Thinking about looking for another 140 in the near future and am really
concidering a 3.5 and risking the rods bending. If not that I would
either go with the next economical choice of a 320 with the 104 or most
likely all out with a 500. Anybody got a 500 and if so what sort of

Any original 3.5 engine that's used for stop and go/city driving is
likely to bend rods within a fairly short period of time. Once there are
ANY symptoms, it's too late and the engine MUST be replaced. When 3.5

[MBZ] 1981 380 SEL

2006-01-08 Thread MICHAEL ESH
Just an update on the $200.00 purchase of the 1981 300 SEL. The engine will
not crank over due to being froze up. Previous owner said he thinks he cracked
the head or block when he overheated it. I pulled the plugs to add lubricant
and got water flowing out of several of the cylinders. It doesn't look good...
What is the cost of a rebuilt or good used engine for this car.I live in
Michigan.

A dogleg 1st gear shifter is such that the usable gears (2, 3, 4, and 5) are
setup in the standard H-pattern. 1st gear is only needed to get the car moving,
but 2-5 are needed on the course. The dogleg 1st gear makes 5th gear easier to
shift to on the long straights (and subsequent downshifts into 4th when
braking).

For package delivery, though, I couldn't help you.

Re: [MBZ] 240 vs SD Go Trucks

2006-01-08 Thread Brian Chase
You're not the only one in the rant-zone. That's what delete is for - for
those irritated by it. I think it's a very relevant topic. We spend a large
part of our lives on the road. And I for one have a very hard time ignoring
piss-poor behavior when I see it. I wish I could ignore it.

It used to be, in my mind at least, that truckers and motorcycle riders are
the best-trained, most ethical drivers on the road (save cyclists who are
into speed, or otherwise hot-doggin'). I know I became obsessed with safe
driving when I started riding. Many of us know of the unwritten rules of the
road which are based on respect for your fellow driver. But I have witnessed
more instances of truckers trying to intimidate with their size -
tailgating, you name it. This primal behavior is bereft of any actual
thought. What would the end result of this intimidation be if carried to
fruition? Again, this is not thought through. I think the addition of a
little thinking (yes, I said it) to the act of driving would save tons of
problems (not to mention energy).

While I can't say they're necessarily doing anything wrong, it sucks to get
thrown into a white-out situation when there's fresh powder on the road and
a semi passes you. If two pass, you're in real trouble. You pretty much are
forced to come to a crawl, and if it goes on for enough consecutive seconds,
you are essentially forced to stop. Of course stopping is a stupid thing to
do. And you don't want to put on your blinkers, because those behind you
will think you're pulled off on the shoulder. No good solution here. And
yes, I too hate it when I'm doing about as fast as icy or shushy conditions
allow, and a semi blows by because they are more stable. Again, can I say
they're specifically doing anything wrong? Not sure. I am sure that poor
driving habits, driven by selfishness and laziness, is the foundation of
most of the problems on the road.

Spout off time...The trucking industry is out of control. The worse the

increased 100% in the last 10 years. I have tried to talk to some of these

Amen to the story. One of my most memorable was several years ago when
I
had a thrice weekly trip from Western Indiana into Indianapolis. After
a

bad snow/ice storm when the interstate was just reopened and still very
 icy,
I was doing about 40 mph - probably faster than I should have, and was
almost blown off the road by an 18 wheeler. About as scared as I ever
got
on that road. 10 miles later I saw this very innocent faced driver
trying
to explain to a trooper how his rig had ended up with the front end on
one
guard rail and the other end on the opposite one when he couldn't stay
on
the road for an exit ramp. I felt like stopping and adding my version
of

how it might have happened. Didn't though. Probably should have.

Very high mileage for an M103 engine. Will almost surely need top end
work if not now than soon. That will cost close to $3000 (could be as
little as $1000 if you do everything except the machine shop work and
most of the hard parts don't need to be replaced)!

A factory reman or new M103 WILL BE EXPENSIVE. A good used one will be
much more modest, but finding one that won't soon or doesn't need top
end work will be difficult.

Go with a CD.

you're after. Then the 240D can be used for chassis parts.
 I prefer the 126 over the 123 though --- -- -

I'd heard things about SDs being slower than Ds being slower than
CDs, but the weights of the cars are not a whole lot different.
Although I could get away with using a coupe most of the time, I've
found I really appreciate the cavernous trunk and
stretch-out-in-the-back-seat passenger room of the SD rather
frequently, not to mention all the other chassis and interior
amenities and the bigger brakes. I find SD performance and handling
surprisingly good--it's a very well-balanced car that can be pushed
very hard, on rough, twisting roads, with confidence and comfort. For
autocrossing, you'd probably be a bit ahead with a CD. For real-life
use and road driving, though, I've found the SD to be very
satisfying--Especially since you can generally pick up one for
CHEAPER than a coupe, all else being equal.

Re: [MBZ] anybody with a 603 3.5?

2006-01-08 Thread Desert Rat
Kaleb, my 92 500SEL gets about 15 city and 20 highway with A/C
running. Have seen high as 23 on 300 mile trip at 60 mph on back
roads.

With diesel about .12 more than premium right now, it's probably a
push as repects fuel economy. I do blend my fuel and rotate half
tank fill-ups between mid and premium fuel. No adverse effects.

With the exception of the door closing system ($600.00), there is
nothing unique or costly about the W140 chassis as compared to other
mid 90's MB's.

On 1/8/06, Marshall Booth [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

How many folks here have a 3.5 in a 140, well, or a 126? Bent rods?
Thinking about looking for another 140 in the near future and am really
concidering a 3.5 and risking the rods bending. If not that I would
either go with the next economical choice of a 320 with the 104 or most
likely all out with a 500. Anybody got a 500 and if so what sort of
mileage do you get? Probably better off going this route over the
  diesel anyways.

Any original 3.5 engine that's used for stop and go/city driving is
likely to bend rods within a fairly short period of time. Once there are
ANY symptoms, it's too late and the engine MUST be replaced. When 3.5
engines is used ONLY for highway driving, they may hold up as long as
any other Mercedes diesel engine. A car with a Mercedes rebuild will
easily handle either style of driving.

[MBZ] I found a 126

2006-01-08 Thread Donald Snook
I found a VERY nice 1990 300SEL and am buying it. 122K miles -- perfect
condition, TONS of maintenance records, major suspension overall done
less than 20,000 miles ago.

I have been scouring Ebay, Edmunds, my local paper, etc to find a really
nice 126. I wanted an 87 300SDL but a low mileage version is priced WAY
too high and the ones that are reasonably priced are turds. I am sure
there are exceptions to this blanket statement, but that is what I have
found. Because I couldn't find a diesel version, I took a leap of faith
and got a gasser.

Here is a list of everything the PO has done in the last 18 months.

New hood star, grille insert, headlight doors, and emblem (installed by
me).
New steering shock.
New valve cover gasket.
Complete front brakes (calipers, pads, rotors, fluid lines, front wheel
bearings).
Recent Bridgestone tires.
Thermostat housing and thermostat.
Blaupunkt San Diego CD32 CD/Radio.
Vacuum pump (for door locks).
Shifter bushings.
Brake fluid pipes to rear brakes.
New shock absorbers.
Flex disk on drive shaft.
A/C - new auxiliary fans, dryer, hose from dryer to expansion valve.
Headlight wiper blades.
Alignment, front pads at 102K.
New thrust arm bearings (left right).
New lower ball joints and ABS sending units (left right).
New tie rod assemblies (left right).
New upper control arms (left right).
New center link.
New transmission cooler lines.
New lower control arm bushings (left right).
New thrust arm mount bushings (left right).
New radiator.
New A/C compressor clutch.
New windshield wiper transmission
New alternator

I can't really see anything else this car might need. Any suggestions?

This is actually material for a book - Papal Mercedes...coffee table type book
- lots of pictures. Mercedes has typically GIVEN a new pope an MB. I saw a
neat picture of John XXIII blessing his new gift - forget what it was. Paul VI
was given a 600, I think. Shortly after Card. Ratzinger was elected Benedict
XVI, he was cleaning out his old apartment and moving into the Papal apartment
at the Vatican and he showed up in a W126. Anyway, MB doesn't give the pope
junk, so it would make a fascinating book.

I used Allen Smith Auto Transport one time, door to door, from North

prices
were lower. He and his son go everywhere except the NE in the winter. He

They may give you a lead on others if its out of there range right now.

Re: [MBZ] anybody with a 603 3.5?

2006-01-08 Thread Dave M.
Kaleb,

I would get the diesel. If you can find one with a documented factory
crate motor, great - they are out there, just not easy to locate.
Otherwise, get one that runs good and doesn't use oil. Tear the engine
down and replace the rods BEFORE they bend and destroy the cylinder
walls. Yeah, it will cost you $1k for new rods up front (plus gaskets
and labor time), but the engine should last as long as any other 603
diesel afterwards - assuming the cylinders are still nice and round.
The other advantage is, since you have to disassemble most of the
engine anyway, you can replace ALL external seals and get a 100%
leak-free motor.

If you go for the gasser, the 500 is the only one to consider. The 320
is too gutless, and why bother with the 420 when the 500 will be
identical in maintenance cost (same M119 engine) but offer an extra 40
ponies on demand, with very little loss in MPG. Forget the 600 for
obvious reasons. My sister picked up a very nice 1994 S500 recently
and they really like it. Fuel economy is rather poor, figure 13-15
around town (depending on the weight of your foot), and 18-22 on the
freeway. Later cars (1996-up?) got the M119.98x engine with
distributorless ignition (very cool), as well as the 5-speed automatic
tranny. The S500 is surprisingly quick for such a large car. If you
lack restraint, a Valentine-1 is a wise accessory to purchase. (Trust
me.)

Some day I wouldn't mind getting a W140 myself, and it would either be
the S350 (with an intercooler, and the full-load screw tweaked,
buwaaa-hah-hahaha!) or the S500. Such a shame we never got the 180hp
S300 with the turbo 606 motor over here. I'd be all over one of those!

Re: [MBZ] anybody with a 603 3.5?

2006-01-08 Thread Dave M.
My personal opinion is not *if* an original 3.5 will bend the rods,
but *when*. Also remember that most owners think adding a quart of oil
every 1kmi is perfectly normal. For a high-mileage M103, it is... but
NOT on an OM603. But hey, if you get an S350 cheap enough, just drive
it until the engine is shot and then fork over the $$$ for a crate
motor. Or, consider swapping in a cheap/used 3.0L long block.
(Intercooled, of course. Heh-heh.)

Re: [MBZ] anybody with a 603 3.5?

2006-01-08 Thread Dave M.
If operating costs are not a big deal, then yeah go with the gasser.
But remember the gasser (S500) will bet getting about 14mpg around
town, compared with probably 24mpg on the diesel (S350). That's a BIG
difference in the wallet if you drive a lot of miles, even after
adjusting for the fact that D#2 is a few pennies more than premium
petrol in most places. I don't think the S420 or S320 will offer much,
if any, benefit in around-town economy. They'd probably be a little
better on the freeway though. Even at 16mpg, the diesel is still FIFTY
PERCENT more efficient. YMMV, etc...

How many of those are the fault of the car? Just because a truck was

Basically a free for all. I read US traffic from trucks has

Yup. But there's nothing inherently dangerous about driving for 12

Here's a typical situation. Dispatch says I have a 500 mile load for

about 10 hrs of driving and 12 hr to do it. No problem! So I arrive

8:50 I bump the dock. Two pallets are loaded, but then it's 9:00 and
break time. At 9:30 they start loading again. At 10:00, the truck is
loaded, but the office is slow and it's nearly 10:30 by the time I
have the papers and am pulling out of the yard. Now I have 9.5 hours
to get there. Well, if I don't eat and there's no traffic,or bad

Amen! I also have close to a million miles of driving, some in mid size
trucks, but mostly in cars. And over 5000 miles in Europe, at speed.
Without a doubt, its crazy car driving that is the worst problem on our
roads, especially cutting in and out on the interstates and city beltways,
OFTEN without enough clearance to safely change lanes. When dicing with a
big semi, that can spell disaster, with the truck getting the headlines and
blame.
Besides a good 5 cent cigar, we really need a good driver training and

How many of those are the fault of the car? Just because a truck was
involved does _not_ mean that the truck is to blame. The view from the
drivers seat in a big truck during heavy traffic reminds me of trying
to walk with a dozen happy puppies trying to greet me. I'm afraid I'll
step on one if I try to move.

Basically a free for all. I read US traffic from trucks has
increased 100% in the last 10 years. I have tried to talk to some of
these

garage haulers.

From what I've seen, the quantity of dangerous drivers is much higher

in cars than it big trucks. Sure, there are maniac truck drivers. And
a 40 ton truck driven by a maniac _is_ scarier than a
maniac-driven Fiero.

Some of these guys/gals are traveling 600 to 700 miles a
day, 6 to 7 days a week

Yup. But there's nothing inherently dangerous about driving for 12
hours a day. And when the job pays by the mile, who would not want to
squeeze as many mile as practical? Add to that the nutty scheduling
that dispatches hand out, plus shippers and receivers that pay _no_
attention to the amount of wasted driver's time.

Here's a typical situation. Dispatch says I have a 500 mile load for
you. Pick appointment is 8AM, delivery appointment is 8PM That's
about 10 hrs of driving and 12 hr to do it. No problem! So I arrive
and check in at the shippers at 7:30. At 8:45 I'm assigned a door. At
8:50 I bump the dock.
Well, if I don't eat and there's no traffic,or bad
weather, or construction I'll be fine. I call ahead to the receiver to
see how tight the appointment is. They often say You can't show up
more than 1 hour early, and if you're more than 15 minutes late we'll
have to reschedule you for tomorrow or the next day. Missing an
appointment is bad. Not only might I have to waste a day or more, it
could also result it penalties for me and/or the company I drive for.

I'll quickly point out that I think staying alive is worth more than 2
days wages, loosing a customer, and lost bonuses - but it is
motivation to keep moving!!!

and they drive those things like Porsches. Big difference in rig
weighing 100,000lbs doing 80 mph and my 240D at less than two tons
doing 70 mph.

No, not like a Porsche! Trust me, a 240D with an tired engine and a
automatic transmission is _much_ quicker than a typical big truck!!
Top speed may be faster, but acceleration with a load is slw, even
with a souped-up large car. One consequence is that a truck driver
is often reluctant to slow down because it can take so long to get
back up to speed. (One truck I drove, with a full load on level ground
would take more than 1.5 miles to go from 50 mph to 60 mph) Add to
that the frustration of lost momentum at the bottom of a hill that can
result in losing 4 gears on the climb rather than 1 gear - all
because an idiot 4-wheeler was doing something stupid.

Something will need to be done about this nightmare...satellite
tracking of each truck to measure/report speed is one answer, but
how do you do you handle the three inches from your but stuff?

Let's do that to the cars. There are _lots_ more over-speed cars than
over-speed trucks.

Maybe separate roads?

Good idea. Let the big trucks do their job and keep the jerks in the
cars away!

Only one good trucking
outfit which drives correctly that I see, JB Hunt

brunt of all the other truckers jokes.

[MBZ] I need your help on how to finalize a vehicle purchase on eBay!

2006-01-08 Thread kayoooh @ gmail
Hello Listers,
I am enlisting the help of all of you who bought cars through the web,
especially eBay.

I am used to buying things on eBay but never a vehicle which is exactly what
just did when I bought a truck on eBay and it sits over a thousand miles
away from me.

Hence my question, how should this transaction be finalized, short of me
traveling there(which is extremely difficult right now)!?

I am hoping those of you who have done it before would give me pointers on
what to do and what not to do,
should I use an escrow service? Where can I find a reliable one and are
there reliable ones to begin with?!

If I opt to ship the truck, are there companies I should avoid and others I
should go with and who are they?

I followed the link on eBay's web site to the DAS Auto shippers but it is
not working, at least not for me or the computer I am using right now.

Any bit of advice from you will be highly regarded.

Thank you,

Omar.

had a rolled back odometer, or the car was abused, or he had a fast talking

As far as I know, a dial indicator is only necessary to set FRONT wheel

Although I could get away with using a coupe most of the time, I've

stretch-out-in-the-back-seat passenger room of the SD rather
frequently, not to mention all the other chassis and interior
amenities and the bigger brakes.

The factory rates the 123 300D turbo sedan OR coupe as 1.2 seconds
faster (0-100 km/h) than the 126 300SD - irrespective of year or rear
end ratio (3.07 or 2.88). Any difference between the sedan or coupe is
within normal manufacturing variance.

I find most truckers are courteous, professional drivers, and are
generally nice to me if I'm nice to them. (How many of you have ever
hung back to let a semi change lanes in heavy traffic? I frequently do,
and often get a thank you taillight flash.) They have a tough job and
most of them do it superbly. It's just that the occasional bad apple
stands out, because the consequences of their actions can be so massive.

There are problems in the industry, but most of them aren't so much the
fault of the drivers, but rather companies trying to squeeze out every
last cent of profit. One study in Michigan found that half the trucks
on the road were over the legal weight limit.

[MBZ] Shift Patterns, was dogleg trans

2006-01-08 Thread Dan Weeks

Someone wrote:

On trucks I've seen that had a dogleg pattern, 1st gear was a granny
low, used only when starting with a heavy load or on a slope. Since
it's not a normal driving gear, it makes sense to put it outside the
normal pattern.

My brother's 1942 International K-7 straight truck has the following
shift pattern:

1 2 5
R 3 4

Wonder what that pattern was called. The Big Dipper, maybe? :-)

Requires some concentration when driving for the first time,
especially when you're splitting every shift with the two-speed rear
end and double-clutching besides. And with 69 horsepower and scaling
17,000 pounds with a load, believe me, you NEED all ten ratios!

2006-01-08 Thread OK Don
I'd say your fuel delivery/injection system is screwed up.

Don - just trying to be helpful ;-)

Well I replaced the fuel filter on the 85 380 with the 5.0 euro, didnt
seem to make a different. I unhooked the exhaust at the manifold and it
didnt seem to make a different. Hooked the exhaust back up and now it
seems fine. Took it for a spin, doenst seem to have quite as much power
as before, almost like a US 5.0. Anyways, what I did notice is that
full pedal down, economy guage all the way in the red, x amount of
power. IF you let up off the pedal slightly, economy guage moves
slighly off full red and you have more power. Can tell a definate
 difference. What does this indicate?
