Re: [MLO] Need help on Advanced Filtering.

2024-06-09 Thread Grant
For those interested, I block various key activity areas to three parts of
the day. I have views that focus on these parts of the days. Buy using a
context for each part of the day as standard for a focus area, I can filter
out that time of day. By using contexts, I can still put a task or sub
focus (also) in another part of the day.
Still, I had the problem that some tasks where beyond today, I and only
wanted to see current actions in my daily management view. Thus my
question here. Based on Dwights help, here is what my filter (currently)
looks like:

[MLO] Need help on Advanced Filtering.

2024-06-07 Thread Grant
First: Is there any detailed documentation on parameters we can fill when
defining DateTime?

I want to filter out all tasks that have a start or due date after 12:00 on
the current day. (that is only part of the total filter, where I included
some contexts and also allow tasks with no due or start date to show).

1. I do not see that I can use a function, like TODAY along with the time

2. A while back, Dwight gave an example using "Now + 4h". The "Now"
function does not seem to be documented anywhere. But I tried some
variation of that, like "TODAY - 12h", but I get an error message that a
"´" was expected. I also tried Dwights "Now + 4h" and get the same error

Any help, and especially, any pointers to documentation, would be much
appreciated.

Re: [MLO] Schedule for Cloud Sync

2024-06-07 Thread Grant
Just to add a bit more insight, the sync is not real-time. It syncs when
you start-up, when the app or computer has been idle for 10 minutes, and
when it shuts down.

Not knowing this detail caused me a lot of grief, because I frequently use
MLO on three different devices in 10 minutes.

Hi Patricio, Without some snapshots showing this multiple selection, the
results, and the rest of the filter sidebar, I dont think anyone can make
any more suggestions.
If you are a paying customer, you can also email the support desk. I find
them generally quite responsive.

I think you did not understand - there is a separate tool for managing your

Contexts.

I can reproduce something similar

Check under Tools-Manage Contexts. See if you have linked some contexts.
eg. click on the guilty context on the left side, and see if any other
tasks are checked on the right.

I see the option to make a new view ´a group´ but I can not put anything,

[MLO] Re: Hours context is not working as I would expect/hope

2024-05-05 Thread Grant
I have done a bit more digging and see the paradigm that MLO uses - they
use combining open hours because they choose that contexts with included
contexts do not exclude any tasks due to hours limitations.
I still would like if we somehow could choose if we wanted to combine open,
or combine closed, hours in both the included contexts, as well as in the
normal context field for each task.

In the meantime, it looks like one option is to use filters on views where
I can exclude contexts I use for times of the day, and show all the rest.
Using tags is also an option, but I think contexts have more overall
capability (eg including in all subfolders, included contexts, etc) which
would make this difficult for me.

If anyone has other solutions, I would be happy to hear them.

[MLO] Hours context is not working as I would expect/hope

2024-05-05 Thread Grant
I am trying out the hours aspect of contexts for the first time.

What I see is if I have only the context with the hours set, then that task
shows only in the open hours. That is fine

BUT! If I add a context that is open (most are open all day) then that
overrides the restriction and I see the task all day.

This seems the opposite of hour a limiting factor should work.

Am I doing something wrong?

[MLO] A hard look at Google Calendar Integration

2024-03-09 Thread Grant
I was quite excited when this feature was introduced. It is not even
anti-GTD, given GTD does include the use of a calendar for fixed
appointments.

Over time I have become less of a fan. Below are a few of my comments on
this topic. Maybe others want to chime in, so that the MLO team can
re-assess the importance and usefulness of this feature.
Qualifier: Is it possible all these issues are Google Calendar restrictions
- I would like to know if that is the case)
1. The lack of automatic synchronization. This causes a wealth of
confusion when looking for an appointment entered in Google Calendar and
not finding it, until you realize you forgot to manually sync from MLO.
2. The lack of Sync via Mobile. If you are on the road for a time, or
mainly a mobile device user, the value of the integration is less, as MLO
and Google Calendar will be at times our of sync.
3. The 250 event limit. When you have more, past events are removed from
the Google Calendar.

   - I miss not being able to visually browse back in my Events calendar to
see what meetings I had and when.
   - *Repeating events count for the 250 limit! * This means one repeating
event with no end forces all past events to be removed from the Google
   Calendar

4. Possibly not a MLO problem, but it seems I can not link my Google
Calendar to MLO and to Evernote at the same time. Does anyone else do this?

Re: [MLO] Repeating task every two years?

2024-03-09 Thread Grant
Can you tell me where to do this?

I do see "create a new task x months after the task is completed", but that
is not what I want, I want it to always repleate exactly 2 years (24
months, better yet 365 days) from the initial DUE date of the task, *not *the
completion date. Maybe I am a bit blind and just do not see it (very
likely...)

[MLO] Suggestion: "Start" column in reminders... and 'event' time and date in general...

2023-12-11 Thread Grant
I depend on MLO for creating all my events in google calendar, and for
pop-up reminders.

Some issues I have run into with suggested solutions:

1. The reminders window does not include the start time of an Event (taks),
but only the Due date. I need to know how many hours until the start, not
the end of an event (and many tasks too.
SOLUTION: add a Start column, or better yet, allow full configuration of
the columns in the reminders pop-up.

2. General Auto prioritization focus of MLO. While its good to have the
possibility of having MLO decide what I should work on next, I think many,
if not most, users manage this themselves, or manage it themselves in
groups, and use auto prioritization to prioritize a group. Overall, I mean
that MLO does not address Events very well:

   - default reminders is for when a task is due - when I think most would
need to know when to start a task
   - reminders windows does not show Start time
   - lead time is due biased, in that you have to figure out when an Event
ends, rather than starts, and then enter a lead time... when usually you
always know the tiime a event starts, and only vaguely the actual time it
ends, but have to now make the unnecessary (small) effort to figure that
   all out backwards
   - The odd thing is that repeating tasks force you to have a start
time... which makes that kind of event oriented, which is also annoying,
since many tasks do not have a start time, and it can mess up or complicate
   your Sort configuration.

Solution (?): offer an option to have MLO Start or Due oriented. I
suspect this would be very complicated, but hope I am wrong. If I am
wrong, maybe some people brigher than I can come up with some changes that
might work for a better MLO.

Naturally, I can work around all these things, but since they bug me a bit,
they might bug more (potential) users and so they are worth considering...
;-)

Cheers, Grant

Re: [MLO] Export Import Workspace Advanced Group and Sort?

2023-12-11 Thread Grant
Yeah,
I ended up doing the same - just copying the full file, with all the
inherent (unknown) risks...
The MLO team replied, that maybe I was not saving the views first... I did
not think it was necessary if I had set it to default, and I did not way
all those new views in the views pane, but it seems that is necessary...
(right now have multiple views listed for the same thing and I do not know
why, but I think this is part of it... If I am right, I will say I wish it
was not so... saving as default should be enough to have it go out with the
export.

[MLO] Re: Automatic Google Calendar sync

2023-12-11 Thread Grant
Its manual... the help says 'for now' but its been that way for years. I
think it should be automatic, given I have missed a few appointments
because I forgot to do something manually, when everything else in MLO is
automatic

Re: [MLO] feature request: one-time-delay for recurring actions

2023-12-11 Thread Grant
I think this is a good idea... I [personally use reminders, so when it pops
up, I snooze it for x hours or days. But that indeed does ot take it out
of the TODAY list...
I am a @jason Seaman c2 type, but having all his option as as part of a
'snooze' dialog for tasks that also postpones the reminder.

[MLO] Export Import Workspace Advanced Group and Sort?

2023-11-30 Thread Grant
I am moving to another PC, and use Cloud Sync. I exported, form my other
PC, everything not related to tasks (workspaces, Views, etc) and imported
them.
I get my workspace tabs just fine, but all the Advanced Filters I use, and
the Group & Sort where not included.

I am doing this wrong, and if not, is there another way to copy these from
one workspace to another? It will be a real pain to have to manually
recreate all that work!

Hi Leigh,
But if I add a column to the view, or change from list to hierarchy, I
still only have a greyed-out 'set as default' option.
Is the problem that I have not created a formal view for this workspace,

[MLO] Small bug in Google Calendar Sync setup?

2023-11-26 Thread Grant
I noticed today that when I set up Google Calendar sync, and go to set the
filter, under contexts you only see the contexts used in the current
workspace/view.

I believe this should rather always be a list of all contexts, regardless
of what view you have open?

[MLO] Set new Default for a Workspace?

2023-11-17 Thread Grant
Hi,

How can I change the default view for a workspace (after having used the
´set as default for this tab"

Right now, the option is greyed out after setting it once.

The only way to make a change seems to be to use the 'make new workspace'
option on the tab, delete the old one, and set the new default on the new
workspace.

In the windows app, it will work (at least in my simple test) if you use

values MLO uses - eg 100, 121 (more), 161 (a-lot) and 200 (max)

[MLO] Re: How does repeat alert work?

2023-11-17 Thread Grant
For anyone interested, this is what I learned from the MLO team:

   - The way it has to be used, right now, is that when the first alert
turns up, you do not use any of the buttons (eg Dismiss, Snoose, Complete),
but you simply close the alert box.

What I am talking about is the section at the bottom of this dialog box. I
wanted to use it in this case, so

   1. I could be reminded of a birthday a week beforehand, so I could
   start making any arrangements, and
   2. also on the day of the event so I could send a Happy Birthday
   notice.
   3. I did not want to have to use two tasks for this.
   4. Nor did I want to have to have to manually set a snooze for each type
   of task

I do not believe this is a particularly good approach. If you have
multiple alerts in the alert box, you have to first find and process the
non-repeating alerts, and only then close the dialog. This could be tedious
and is error prone in my opinion.

I suggested they improve on this by adding some repeating alert-specific
action button, or such. I leave the detailed design up to them of course.
They said they would take this into consideration.

Re: [MLO] Re: Shortcut key for showing and not showing hierarchy?

2023-11-14 Thread Grant
Wo! Awesome! There is so much to learn about MLO - thats both good and
bad... its amazing it does not have a bigger following, except that most
people these days want fancy, and not functional...

I will also add, that I had the workspace locked, because I was afraid to
delete them.. but if they are unlocked, I can use views, and double click
on the tap to go to my defaul view. And, if I try to delete a workspace
with a default view, I am warned, so its unlikely I will delete it... I
need to study view more too...

[MLO] How does repeat alert work?

2023-11-11 Thread Grant
I want to be reminded of an event one week before, and then on the day.
I configured this in the reminders popup.
Now, when the 1-week warning reminder shows in the popup windows, I have a
choice to Open Task, Complete, Dismiss or Snooze.
Which do I choose to dismiss the first alert, and still get the second?
If I click on dismiss, the entire series seems to be canceled (the reminder
box is unchecked). If click complete, the task is completed.
Obviously, I do not want to just open the task, and I do not want to have
to manually snooze a week.

OK, for now, I created a Hierarchy Workspace, showing everything, and put
it as the first tab (I am not sure that is necessary), and have all my
other workspaces set to sync with the first tab.
That way I can select any task in the task list workspace for a life area,
and then click on the first tab to see that task in the full hierarchy.
This might even be more useful what what I initially requested.
I also have a TODAY workspace, showing only the tasks I starred for
attention today, and an All Active Actions view, so I can see a simple full
list of all possible choices.
Cheers

[MLO] Shortcut key for showing and not showing hierarchy?

2023-11-09 Thread Grant
Hi,

I have workspaces for each of my major life areas. I like to see only the
active actions view by default, but when entering a new task, I need to see
the underlying hierarchy so I can enter it into the right project or list.

I wanted to do with with a shortcut key, but I can not find one under
options that supports this.

Am I not seeing it, or can someone suggest another one-stroke or click way
to do this?

Thanks,

Grant

[MLO] URGENt: How to Restore...

2023-11-06 Thread Grant
Hi,
Shockingly, MLO somehow deleted 80% of my folders and tasks today (after
using v6 for about a week).

I do have advanced backup running, and I have the .bak file from yesterday,
which is complete.

How to I safely make this my new .mlo file, that syncs with the cloud (and
will not wipe my data again, or destroy this back up file (I want to
preserve it just in casew this happens again)

The Mlo help only says to open the .bak file and nothing about renaming
from the backup title (eg with the date and time added) and from .bak to
.mlo safely. Nor is there a clear description of how to ensure it syncs
with your cloud sync and other devices...

Re: [MLO] Automatic formatting of project or next level up in active task list

2023-11-04 Thread Grant
Thanks, Leigh, but my problem is something else.
I know about custom formatting and use it*. *It includes a section for
'active tasks' which I have as the default green, but
my question was about the 'Active Actions' view.
There I can add the project name, or folder names to the Task Caption.
Unfortunately, this additional text is changed to the active actions
default color in this view. What I want is for the appended project/folder
text to retain its original format

[MLO] Automatic formatting of project or next level up in active task list

2023-11-03 Thread Grant
HI,
I use the options to show the project name, or higher-level folders with
the actual task name in the active actions view.

I find it hard to quickly visually differentiate the two when scanning my
tasks list (all the text is normal and green)

Is there a way to format the project and/or parent folder names differently
than the task name in this view?

Re: [MLO] Linking to MLO from other applications: what is possible?

2023-10-18 Thread Grant
Leigh,
How do you link from Mlo to Evernote? I tried to create on in the task
notes, with no luck.
And, darn, the think I wanted initially, a way to link to MLO tasks, from
Evernote, is easy... just copy as URL and use the ´make link´´ option in
Evernote.

So, assuming you explain how to link to Evernote, I think I have what I
want.
Thanks,
Grant

[MLO] Re: FOR FANS: private donation

2023-10-18 Thread Grant
I have already opted to support them by ordering many years of cloud sync.
My next financial help will be to upgrade to version 6.

I like the idea of this GoFundMe, but there are indeed, too many
smooth-talking scammers out there for me to trust this without seeing
support for it on the MLO website, or a private email from them.

I am NOT saying this is a scam, and do not want to offend anyone, I am just
giving my view on how I will deal with this, probably, a thoughtful
initiative. Maybe others who are uncomfortable with this initiative right
now can also use my approach.

Re: [MLO] Linking to MLO from other applications: what is possible?

2023-10-15 Thread Grant
I was thinking about this again today - after trying to use Tasks in
Evernote so I had both my information and tasks in the same app.
Evernote´s tasks feature is very basic, and its not working on one PC,
apparently due to some hardware quirk and Electron coding, so I am starting
to think of moving back to using the two apps.

I now think, as you suggested @Dwight, that a link to workspace would be
enough, and even ideal, as I would only be going back and forth to manage
projects or lists of tasks. I do not really need a link to a specific
task, but that would be OK too, as long as you could also say what
workspace to view it in. Or both

Is there still a place wiere we can submit ideas that the MLO team actually
looks at and considers, and better yet, provides feedback on?

[MLO] Re: MLO Feature Request (more)

2023-07-25 Thread Grant
Regarding Suggestion #1, I later saw that you can choose either a tag, a
flag, or text tag field. So that request is solved!

I now will add #5: Provide URL links to Workspace (or other defined
views?). That might include parameters on the URL that would specify what
workspace or view.

[MLO] Linking to MLO from other applications: what is possible?

2023-07-23 Thread Grant
I use a note app to collect information, but also to organize my projects.
Most offer some form of tasks, but, after many trials, none are as
complete as MLO. I would like to integrate the two solutions somehow.

I know I can 'copy as URL' for tasks, and this usually works from most
notes apps.
But:
1. the link opens an All Tasks tab, that not only shows all tasks but also
all completed tasks.. is there a way to set the view that you get when
using URL links?
2. It would be very nice if I could link to a specific workplace on MLO -
eg the one I have set up for a project. Is there any way to do that?
(because I use a hierarchy for my tasks, I can of course link to the
project parent - so that works, but it's just not as smooth...

Does anyone else use MLO with a note or project management apps, and how do
you manage using the two together?

Thanks

Grant

Re: [MLO] Re: Can't seem to find how to convert back to MLO 5

2023-03-18 Thread Grant
I agree, I quit the trial, and downgrading is a pain... I have never had
any app require me to reinstall an older version after a trial... I always
thought the MLO team was considerate, but this is hard selling, and I do
not like it at all! I was kind and took a 3 year sync license back when
the war started and they suggested we could support them that way... but
now this makes me regret that choice... I can not say I will leave MLO, but
I just was not ready to upgrade right now.

[MLO] MLO Feature Request (more)

2022-09-01 Thread Grant
(I forget if there is another place to more formally post these
suggestions, so for now, I will put them here')

1. I would like to see the google calendar sync enabled as a task option,
rather than using the text tag field. Using the Tag field means you can
not put any other text in the field because then the sync will not be
recognized

In other words, using the google sync feature means probably you can no
longer use the text tag feature at all, at least consistently.

2. Remove the forced entry of a start date for re-occurring tasks. Adding
a start date for tasks with no duration adds no value, and makes filtering
and sorting more complex.

3. Make Importance, Urgency visible in Statistics when in all views. Right
now it only shows when using one of the reconfigured ToDO views.

4. I agree with others that the computed score needs to offer a lot more
configuration - this would make MLO even more special!

Stay Strong Ukraine!

Re: [MLO] Problem with Importance & Urgency in Task Statistics

2022-08-31 Thread Grant
Hey Dwight, Good description! But... I think what Jens meant was, that
when you view your tasks in any outline view, the values show as N/A in the
Task Statistics, but if you look at the same task under the ToDo lists, you
do see values. So the question is more one of 'why can I not see the value
in all views?'

I came to the forum today with this question too!

[MLO] Re: Workspace Sync

2022-05-06 Thread Grant
Thanks Andrei.
At first I asked myself why I have not always done that. I use the MLO
cloud sync currently. I think a good reason is that I often have MLO open
on more than one device, and so hope the MLO cloud sync will help avoid
conflicts that would otherwise happen if I had the same file open when its
syncing via dropbox. Am I right?

[MLO] Workspace Sync

2022-04-26 Thread Grant
Hi,

I know there are several posts on this topic, but I could not find any that
really helped. Nor did I see a MLO help or FAQ topic that seemed like it
would answer this. Naturally, I did not do an exhastive search: after 10
minutes I decided to try the minds on the Forum

Is it possible to sync/transfer/copy a workspace setup to another similar
PC (windows in my case).

Maybe best if someone can give a current ´state of the art´ on this topic.

PS: this really is a needed feature, at least between similar operating
system devices.

Cheers,
Grant

Thanks everyone! That helped a lot. Weird process - considering there is
no manual for this.

One thing that confused the heck out me, and I am still not sure if its a
bug or a feature, is if you have an existing rule selected, say at the end
of the list, and click on 'add sub-rule' that it basically deletes the
rule you have selected, and starts a blank one for sub-rules

Similarly, you cannot start with nothing, or no rule selected, and click on
'add sub-rule'. When I do, nothing happens. I have to first New Rule, and
then with that selected, 'add sub-rule'

What I did like is that you can drag and drop rules, which makes playing
with the filter until it works handy.

Cheers,

Grant

[MLO] Advance Filter: subfilters, how-to?

2021-11-30 Thread Grant
Hi, I can not get my head around how to add subfilters in the Advanced
Filter. When I create a top level filter, and click on the 'subfilter'
button to the right, the conditions of the top-level filter disappear, and
only the 'AND/OR' remains. If I try to edit that, I only get the option to
precede it with 'NOT' and maybe some other conditions. The parameters are
gone, eg 'is starred'.

The HELP file contains no details on using the Advance Filter, so I have
come here for help, or a pointer to better instructions.

Thanks!
Grant

[MLO] Feature Request: have the keyword for linking to Google Calandar exist with more tag words

2021-11-08 Thread Grant
Right now, if someone wants to sync with Google Calendar, they have to
enter a key in the Tags field.

However, this then makes it impossible to enter other key words in the tag
field. This results in loss of functionality across all tasks if a user is
using tags for extra organization in a structured way.

I suggest either:
1. A separate function be added specifically for entering the Google
Calendar key works, that is independent of the Tags field, or
2. Enable the Tags field to support the Google Calendar key work, along
with other key words.

Let me know if I should register this request somewhere else.

Cheers,
Grant

Re: [MLO] 'Tags' Discussion - why not allow more than one at a time?

2021-11-08 Thread Grant
@dewight said " If so I would request calendar sync be enhanced to permit
coexistence "

I got around to testing the co-existence of the Google Calendar tag with
others, and alas, its not possible. I will request the co-existance, as
you suggested.

For the rest, you are right, I can just use a separated list and filter on
the work I want. That probably is good enough. Still, someday it would be
nice if tags would get the same type of functionality as contexts... at
least it would be handy for my way of organizing things.. and maybe
others...

Cheers

Re: [MLO] Re: The use of 'next' in parsing

2021-11-06 Thread Grant
I failed to mention that I am sensitive to this topic because I grew up in
North America, but have lived in Europe for 35 years now. I regularly have
a miss communication with people here for just this reason…. So indeed I
try to double check when someone says “next” .. I don’t think there is on
answer for international use, so best to always confirm with a date when
sharing with others.

[MLO] 'Tags' Discussion - why not allow more than one at a time?

2021-10-23 Thread Grant
Tags are not what I expected, and if I was designing MLO, I would give them
a different use than they have now. I am wondering what others think:

   - Would anybody else find being able to have multiple tags useful? And
   how would you use them?

Here is my PoV:

Currently tags are 'more flexible flags', in that

   - you can only have one (like flags),
   - you can filter on either type, but
   - you can choose any (more meaningful) text

I propose that Tags should have more added value. Key to this would be to
allow multiple tags.

But 'then they would be just like contexts' you say?

Functionally, yes. But 'Contexts' are to identify when at task is
applicable - eg to a person, place, etc.'Tags' are for 'content', or
'information' we might say.

For example, I might create a task with the context @Office, :Susan, so
when I am in the office, I will see that I should see if I can talk to
Susan. And if I used the context ':Susan' with other tasks, I can find
back everything I should talk to her about.

Limiting contexts, and staying consistent, provides an important and
manageable way to compactly structure task views. You do not want too may
Contexts.

But I often want to know what 'meaning' is contained in a task, so I can
use my tasks to add value to all my work, or so they can be used in other
ways, eg when we use the @googlecalendar tag to sync with that calendar.

Or I want to use Tags as a kind of 'Sandbox' to temporarily filter on a
special case, or idea

Sure, I can then use a Tag. But what if also wanted note that task had
'Art' as a topic, and it related to my 'Hobby' and it already had the tag
liking it to my google calendar? I can not add those to the Tag field
right now. And I certainly do not want to add yet more Contexts to my
already long list - since these aspects are temporary, and not the focal
point of the task, still they are relevant to something else I am doing
maybe.

Does this make sense?

Re: [MLO] Re: The use of 'next' in parsing

2021-10-23 Thread Grant
Ah, good point. No, I am not totally comfortable with my PoV. I found
this good summary of the issue
https://englishlessonsbrighton.co.uk/this-next-day-week/.

The best way to match with common usage would be for 'This' to refer to
days in the current week, and 'Next' to refer to days in the next week.
This would require MLO to also take note of which day a user starts their
week on (Sunday or Monday), or better yet, to separately ask the user when
they want their 'parsing week' to start (eg my work week start on Monday,
but my cultural week starts on Sunday - and this is likely to vary per
religion/culture/language).

Alas, I suspect there where still be exceptions where someone would
complain. Thus, maybe it still is best to use 'next' for the next day in
the sequence, and to document that in the Help text. Then it works one
(most logical) way for everyone.

In closing, I finally looked in the HELP file for how MLO implements this,
and they have chosen their own logical approach, which is consistent, if
also not fully adapted to actual usage:
Friday(nearest Friday in future)
next Friday(next Friday after nearest Friday in future)

This I can live with, and I am sure its easier to program around ;-)

[MLO] The use of 'next' in parsing

2021-09-30 Thread Grant
Just to see what others thinkand maybe change someday in MLO...

I find that using 'next Monday' does not parse to the coming Monday, but
the one after the coming Monday.

There is always a debate around the use of 'this' vs 'next' when
referring dates, so there is no one answer.

My PoV is that MLO should use the strict interpretation, and next should
refer to the 'next in the order of things', eg 'next monday' means the
one that occurs next, after today. All other interpretations are based on
a regional, or cultural 'common use' interpretation of the English
language and are prone to introducing confusion...

What is your PoV?

(have fun)

[MLO] Re: Macro to insert ascii character or special text?

2021-09-09 Thread Grant
Thanks all. I was aware of Alt-codes, but was hoping that MLO had a macro
or progammable key combination that might work, so I do not have to
memorize several 4 digit numbers, and which letter keys can be used for
numbers. Also, one of my laptops does not support Alnat-codes at all.
Right now I just have the symbols inserted in the Inbox title so I can copy
and paste them.
Steph: I was specifically needing this for the title names of tasks (where
markup does not work), not the notes field.
Cheers, Grant

[MLO] Re: Pocket Mod: how to get the lists I need...

2020-12-30 Thread Grant
Andrei!
Thanks so much for the video - how great you made this effort to provide a
really clear answer to my question!
And yes, it works (of course)!

My mistake was I was using the standard views, which by default must have
'show completed' on. I was using the filter to turn that off, but not
trying to save them. It seems they can not be saved, so I must create my
own views with 'show completed' and other changes, and save that, and use
it.

PS: do not worry about your English - it was good! I am a native English
speaker and make more mistakes than you do probably. I also live in the
Netherlands, and, well, my Dutch has a lot more mistakes I am sure...

Hi,
I had to authorize google calendar today and got the message that it is not
authorized by google, and the builder has to do so before it can be deemed
safe, etc.

[MLO] Re: Pocket Mod: how to get the lists I need...

2020-12-27 Thread Grant
Hey Steph,
I think you missed understood the tool I was talking about. I was asking
this for the PocketMod printing function - a tool that prints a small book
on a single sheet of paper. I guess I am old fashioned enought that I
prefer to have a piece of paper (and pen) in my pocket during the day with
my ToDo list (I do not work behind a computer, and I am always leaving my
mobile phone somewhere where I am not)

Anyways, when I print these, even if I have one tab/view open, and I have
hidden the completed tasks, PocketMod still prints all my completed
tasks. I do not think that is useful

I also want to have a page with starred tasks only. Since that is not a
standard view, I want to know how to create my own lists views to print via
PocketMod

Thanks for anyone who can help

[MLO] Pocket Mod: how to get the lists I need...

2020-12-19 Thread Grant
Hi, a few questions
1. How do I hide completed tasks
2. How do I create my own views in MLO so they work in Pocket Mod?

I tried the standard Starred view, and it only shows current or future
tasks, not overdue. I created my own starred view, and that starts listing
the entire MLO outline

Thanks very much!

[MLO] Force a task into active actions view?

I have a few projects where I have set the 'complete tasks in order'
enabled. This works for the core plan, but often I run into something
small I need to do in addition to the Next Task on a particular day for the
project. Thus I want both to show on my active tasks view. Is there a way

Re: [MLO] Why would a task marked as due today not show in Active tasks view?

2020-10-21 Thread Grant
As always, Dwight to the rescue! I had forgotton about that trick of
looking in Statistics! The problem was 'Inactive due to complete tasks in
order' but the project folder did not have that option enabled!
BUT! it turns out the project was a subfolder, and yes, the parent folder
had 'complete tasks in order' enabled (why I do not know)

So, problem solved, and time to check my other project folders... ;')

[MLO] Why would a task marked as due today not show in Active tasks view?

2020-10-21 Thread Grant

I have a project folder, and in it I have several tasks due today, one of
them is repeating. None of these show in my Active Tasks view. Ican not
figure out why
They are not hidden, and I do not have any filters on (that I know of), etc.
I have other project folders with tasks with, as far as I can see, all the
same settings, etc. and I see those tasks

Any ideas of things to check are welcome

Thanks

[MLO] How to set a location based reminder?

its easier on my phone because I do most of my task entry and management

[MLO] Help me with parameters for Advanced Filters

2020-09-10 Thread Grant

Hi,

I want to filter out all tasks with a start date more than 4 hours from now
(along with a few other conditions for other fields).

In advanced filtering there is StartDateTime, but I can not figure out how
to have this ´always 4 hours ahead´value as opposed to a specific time or
date, or the functions Today, Today+1, etc.

I saw one thread that mentioned that I could use ´Before´ ´Now+4h´ but I
can not figure out a way to enter this.

I also looked for a help file or manual on the details around using
advanced filter, but could not find anything - is there something?

Thanks all!

Grant

[MLO] Re: Any way to send selected MLO tasks to Google Tasks?

2020-08-06 Thread Grant
I answered my own question:

Simply select multiple tasks, then use Advanced Copy as Text (using the
defaults), then click on 'create new task' in Google Tasks, and then paste
into that new task. Google Tasks the creates separate tasks for each
one. This nice paste feature is not documented as far as I know...

[MLO] Re: Start dates and calendars

2020-08-06 Thread Grant
I star items I want at the top of my list - and use this for the same
reason you say - a list of thing I want to work on but do not want to put a
date on. I use Sort and put Star as the first sort option.

What I want is a way to then integrate those tasks with Google Tasks, so I
can see them next to the Calendar, which only has real appointments in it
(eg not start and due dates for project like things)

Cheers,

Grant

Thanks for your support Mark and Patricio.

You both have indicated you would like a Calendar view. This does exists,
and is part of what I use. See:

To be clear, I was asking for a Google Tasks integration, so I can see
selected MLO tasks in Google Tasks next to Google Calendar.

[MLO] Any way to send selected MLO tasks to Google Tasks?

2020-08-04 Thread Grant
Hi All,
I tend toward using the visual look of a calendar for my day to day
tracking of what I should be doing. I use the MLO integration with Google
Calendar, but that more for appointments and not tasks. Google Calendar
can show Google Tasks on the right side and I have started putting selected
(simple, usually non-project) tasks for the day there. It would be great
if I could somehow select the tasks in MLO and move them to Google Tasks
automatically, or in a batch..
Does anyone have suggestions on how this can be done relatively
efficiently?
Thanks

[MLO] non-hierarchical task formatting: can I have the project or path color different than the task name?

2019-10-31 Thread Grant
I like using the non-hierarchical task additional information in my actions
lists - it provides extra insight to the task. However it would be nice if
I could show the extra project or path text in a different color than the
task name - then my mind will focus on the task text right away and not
have to parse out the extra information first, since its not always
necessary to see that.

[MLO] Suggested improvement repeating tasks

2019-07-29 Thread Grant
Hi,
When entering a repeating task using time, it would seem more logical that
the default time where duration starts from is the start date, not the due
date. This in part because the start date and time are at the top in the
dialog box... so mainly a usability thing. I have for years struggled with
this, since I do not often create repeating tasks, but everytime, I have to
click, change, try, change, etc before I get the lead time right.
Think about it, and see if its a worthwhile small change that maybe will
make the use of this particular aspect easier.
Cheers, Grant

[MLO] Prioritization sorting not working

Help! Since the last time I used MLO (a week ago :-( when I open my file

How do I get this working again!

Thanks Trevor
Yeah, I have a hard time following your explanation. Besides, I am not a

I think this is an improvement in design the MLO team could make such that
searching for a certain context would a;so be found when it was contained
in a context that includes that other one.

[MLO] Exclude Folders in Counter view, and need Late / Not Completed counters option

2018-08-09 Thread Grant
Can we get the option in 'manage views' under counters, to include or
exclude folders and or project titles (and hidden versions of everything)
please? Also when we are using the Hierarchy view please?

This does not really make sense, especially in version 5 where counters are
now easily visible from a task management tool perspective, does it? I
would want to only see actual tasks that need to be acted on. Folders
certainly do not fit in that catagory. Project Titles also not, but that
is more of a grey area.

I would also like a 'Late / Not completed view, which to me would be the
most often desired view.

I have created a context that contains three other contexts. (eg X,

Now I want to search on all tasks that include one of the other context, so
I filter on that single context (eg B)
The results only show tasks where that context is listed individually (B),

I would really like to see them all (B and X)

Re: [MLO] Can I filter on Tags?

MOK,

Great catch, the search text box check box. That works for me just fine
for what I asked - which was to be able to see tasks with a specific tag
with minimal work.

As an aside, I think tags should evolve into something similar as Context
as far as filtering, views, management. But then they would be the same as
Contexts I guess... so its a tough call, but worth debating.

btw I use a whole group of pre-cursors to words I use as tags, go give them
more meaning

for example

   - #is for projects,
   - ! is an area of responsibility,
   - % is for routines,
   - : is for people
   - > is for a source of information (eg >Web and

[MLO] Can I filter on Tags?

2018-05-17 Thread Grant
Tags are a really good idea, but I would need to be able to easily
search/filter on just the tag field as a first step to making them actually
useful. I probably can do it via the ' advanced' tab in Filter but what
is way too many steps to be able efficiently interact with my data.

Yeah, this has to do with the pay system MLO contracted... in Europe we

which indeed, is not correct, unless MLO part of the European Union, which

[MLO] Re: MyLifeOrganized 5 public beta is out!

2018-05-08 Thread Grant
OK, while its not perfect, I have paid for my upgrade. What I like and do
not like so far
- Text Tags are probably the most significant new feature - this provides
the basis for using tags to structure your tasks without the need of having
to put everything into a hierarchy. If this can be work out so you can
manage text tags like we do contexts, and even maybe view our tasks by at
task hierarchy, then we have pretty special application I think.
- Google Calendar integration is good and useful for those who depend on
Google Calendar. Inside my large organization, we do not use this, so for
my work, its useless - but there is nothing to do about this - its not MLOs
problem. On the other hand, MLO has made a good try to let you choose
what will go to the calendar, but its not complete, so work-arounds are
still needed in some cases
- I am so-so about the markup language. Its great to have it, but entering
mark up as I type is not how I type - and I think that is true for most
workers (programmers will have less a problem with this). I advise that
MLO simply also include a text formate button bar, in the preview mode
maybe, that lets you work with your text more like a word processor. I
have not looked into the copy and paste issues, but it would be important
to be able to copy my formatted text to RTF based tools too.
- The task sum columns added to the left panel look good, but serve little
real value, and take up a lot more space than they need to.
- On feature I would really like to see is to be able to double click on a
item shown in the preview mode and go into the edit mode... its not natural
to see a preview and then have to click away to another place to edit it.

Keep up the good progress MLO team. My only wish is you could work
faster, as I bet most of these points where discovered by the closed beta
team, but not (yet, I hope) implemented.

Why not have both... use a format button bar in the preview mode so you can

have the ' mark up ' box for those who like to work lean and mean and do
not work much with other text tools they might want to copy to?

If I read it right, this is a Beta, but if we want to continue using the
Beta after 15 days, we have to pay?! I don't recollect every having to had
paid to help test an application in Beta.

First observation: the columns in the View side bar, for overdue and total
number of tasks seem much wider than necessary. I like to reserve room for
the Main view. Is it possible to make these less wide?

I am looking forward to trying more more of this new (Beta!) release.

problem when I selected a large group of tasks, some up to date, some past
due, and use the command on all of them.. the overdue ones where correctly
updated, but the future ones all got messed up.
I believe I have done this same processies quite a few times in the past
and never had this problem as far as I know... which makes it all the more
mysterious..
I have checked the start, due, and alarm dates of two of them, and they are
all correct - eg identical - before this problem occurs.
Any thoughts?
