[Zappa-List] New hot-poop on Zappateers DimeaDozen!
Meander off to Zappateers and get yourself a dose of my new upload/seed, Blood on the canvas - unaired radio play by FZ Eric Bogosian (UMRK 1986). Then go to DimeaDozen and treat yourself to Thing-Fish - Demos and More Demos (Deluxe Version), which I co-produced with my esteemed colleague, itsonlytony. Features stunning NEW artwork! here's the blub for Blood: itsonly pseudo-productions proudly presents Volume 6 of its impossibly ambitious (but eminently achievable) 300+ release schedule! Ladies and gentlemen, for your singin' dancin' pleasure: Blood on the canvas - Eric Bogosian Frank Zappa Recorded at UMRK 1986 - Museum of Modern Art - withdrawn/unbroadcasted. Eric Bogosian - words performance FZ - music production ??Sony FX (Type 1) 90mins cassetteCD WAVEFLAC Frontend Next scheduled release: FZ - Pittsburgh, Stanley Theatre 13-Nov-1980 (early show) (always subject to change - whether for scientific or whimsical reasons) Back catalogue: Volume 1 - FZ - Madison 11-Aug-1984 Volume 2 - FZ - A Feast of Friends (KMPC Radio 8-Jan-1989 w/Alan Ladd) Volume 3 - Tommy Mars Interview 20-April-1996 w/Juha Ramppanen Volume 4 - Dick Barber Interview 9-Feb-1990 w/Bruce Burnett (Clairmont 9-Feb-1990) Volume 5 - Ray Collins Interview December 1989 (Venice Beach, C.A.) Note: naturally, as the itsonly production team grows in artistic and technical competency/confidence - and blossom into deeply spiritual human beings - they will intermittenly re-seed 'improved' versions of their mighty back catalogue. Requests always taken. We respond to enthusiasm. We even accept fan mail. All our productions are horribly conceived, spawned, hatched, mutated cloned at our state-of-the-art Frunobulax Hissing' Laboratories (beware the rabid guard dogs) AND HERE IS THE BLURB FOR THING-FISH - DEMOS: Bursting with pride, we hereby unleash upon the (mainly) unsuspecting world the follow-up to our DimeaDozen hit single (with a bullet), Thing-Fish - The Real Tapes. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, for your singin' and dancing' pleasure, gaze in awe-struck wonder upon: Frank Zappa - The Thing-Fish Demos (Deluxe Version) 1.Prologue 2.Mammy nuns 3.Harry and Rhonda 4.Torchum never stops (fade out) 5.You are what you is 6.Mudd club 7.The meek shall inherit nothing 8.Dumb all over 9.Heavenly bank account 1.Teenage Wind 2.Suicide Chump 3.Jumbo go away 4.Drafted 5.I dont want to get Drafted 6.Massive Improve'lent 7.Artificial Rhonda 8.Instromental 9.No not now 10.Briefcase boogie(Eee Ooo) 11.Brown Moses 12.Drop Dead 13Wonton on 14.Galoot updatum 15.Torchum never stops 16? ... Fundamentally, the Deluxe Version is a souped-up re-issue of the 'official' unofficial 2-cd bootleg release, Thing-Fish Demos (released in 2004 - under the rubric, Zipperman Demos Series Vol. 3). Our version is jam-packed (well, packed) with extra tracks and phenomenal NEW (yes, new) artwork - the likes of which have never been seen before, and may well be never seen again (especially if the Jesus/Yahweh/Allah/Vishnu-loving Thought Police get their way). So, even MORE for your non-money - are you a luck person or what? The stinking blurb that accompanies the evil commercial bootleg reads: The complete Thing-Fish in an early demo plus 1981 Chalk Pie studio demos (now please leave your cash on the table). However, our Chalk-less version contains some extra tracks that do not appear on the 'official' Thing-Fish Demos bootleg, as we also had in our sweaty clutches a cassette (21mins long) entitled, More Demos, containing four tracks - now included in our Deluxe version and no doubt running through your startled ears right now. Additionally, our track titles differ ever so slightly from the bootleg's - though we are almost certain that they are indeed the very same tracks. Still, judge for yourselves, fellow Zappaoholics! Now, do yourself a favour and download this hot poop, and make sure it rockets up the DimeaDozen charts (with a bullet). I mean, who wants that turkey, Carlos Santana, to be king of the hit parade? Also, as a cynical incentive to rig the charts (in the very best pop/ugly radio tradition, of course), there is a free beer with every download - OK? Just like in our previous production (which you've already got, right?), we include the front cover of the original bootleg release - so you can contrast its wretchedness (though its alright) with the glory that is our brand new artwork, commissioned solely for this breath-taking project. Absolutely nothing wrong in blowing your own shiny trumpet and reveling in your own genius, we say. Then again, the blushing artist is now at the mercy of this writer, so he'll have to live with his fame (don't worry, Leonardo - it will become a way of life). For all you sensible people who downloaded, Thing-Fish - The Real Tapes, believe us when we say you NEED this as well - not only do you get to hear loads more Fishy things but you get to hear those

[Zappa-List] EAC advice needed - problems extracting one track!
Hi guys gals - here is a copy of the message I've just posted over at Zappateers. I'm planning (well, hoping!) to upload Madison 11-Aug-84 (2-CDs - original source) as a torrent, but I just cannot get 'Easy Meat' (real nice version as well) to extract properly - all the other tracks are fine. Very frustrating! cheers, Danny Hi guys gals! I'm trying to upload my first ever torrent (Madison 11-8-84) to Zappateers DimeaDozen, but I'm having problems extracting the last track (No14 - Easy Meat) from the first disc - I keep getting errors, suspicious positions warnings and so on. However, this is the first time I've ever used Exact Audio Copy, so I don't really know the 'tricks of the trade' yet. Yes, I've extensively cleaned the offending disc and tweakes some of the settings ('burst enable', for instance), but still no joy. Needless to say, it plays perfectly fine, just will not extract. Any advice? Once I sort this out, I'm planning to upload some Mike Keneally shows and a really good 90min radio interview with FZ, entitled - Broadway the Hardway explained and more' on a 'Feast of Friends' show KMPC 8-1-89 (w/Alan Ladd). I do not recall seeing this one doing the rounds either on Zappateers or EasyTree/DimeaDozen. If, for any reason, you do not think it would be advisable to upload the content listed above, please let me know - as I said before, I am a newbie to all this Torrenting/Uploading/Seeding (etc) stuff. Also, what program would you recommend for 'digitalising' my FZ audio cassettes - SoundForge, Nero Wave/sound Editor, CD Wave, WaveLab or Adobe Audition? I must admit, I don't have a clue about how to do it, so all tips sagely advice gratefully accepted!! cheers, itsonlydanny p.s. I include the draft text/blurb that comes with my putative Madison '84 upload: This is my first ever torrent upload, so be gentle with me - you know what it is like when you lose your cherry! Obviously, as this is my first bash, it will (in all probablity) be quite amateurish, but you live and learn, I suppose. I didn't choose this recording for any great particular reason, except that I don't recall seeing it floating around Zappateers/EasyTree recently - though of course I could be completely wong about that! Not much to say about the lineage of this recording, apart from the fact that it came to me as the Moustache Over Madison 2-cd bootleg (my mate bought it for a lot of money!!). I haven't done any of that fancy editing stuff, as the original discs sounded fine to me - though some of the hard-core veterans might disagree! In the future I might edit/polish any Zappa stuff I upload, probably using either SoundForge v7 or Steinberg's WavLab (or maybe Nero Sound/wave editor). Naturally, I do not have a clue at the moment as to how to use these programs, but I'll learn no doubt. I plan to uploads shed-loads of FZ material. I've been meaning to do it for ages, but just somehow never found the time. For instance, at the moment, I've got about three boxes of FZ audio cassettes lurking on the backstairs, most of which I've never found the time to listen to, let alone transfer/digitalise/torrentise ... Let the torrent (stupid pun intended) begin! All friendly and constructive advise will be gratefully accepted - and anything else will be politely, but sternly, ignored! Contact me at either: [EMAIL PROTECTED] OR [EMAIL PROTECTED]. Oh yes, the technical info and track listings - of which the latter, naturally, I've lazily cut-and-pasted from Jon Naurin's show list, and amended where appropriate. [Zappa-List] Re: 31 Mar 79 Munich vine
Hi there! I've just noticed the list activity chat. No comment! I started the vine below. The Munich '79 my mate downloaded from EasyTree, put it on two discs, and gave then to me. Then i started the vine, in the spirit of generosity and deep love for my fellow man and woman (I know, I know, call me idealistic ...). Anyway,I just copied the two discs, so I couldn't have put the 'two second' gap in by mistake (which can be done, of course, relatively easily!!), as the 'original' was 'gapless'. The Austin '73 was an 'extra' or 'gift' disc that came with something else (a vine to pass on). Naturally,I cannot remember who sent it or what the 'attached' vine was! However, it sounded perfect to me, no gaps, and I just copied it. If that helps in anyway to help dispel the confusion, great! If not, oh well, never mid, no problem ... Festive greetings, DANNY Hi Danny, Maybe you've seen the list activity today, but I got this show from you and sent it to Scott, who has noticed 2 second gaps. I checked my copies and they are there, although I am at a loss to explain how I overlooked it. I guess my question is this: did you get the discs you sent me from another person, or were they copies? If there were from another viner, then we all have the same problem. If you can help us out, that's be great. We're just trying to backtrack to solve the problem. thanks, Joseph - Original Message - From: abxer3p To: Zappa-List@yahoogroups.com Sent: Wednesday, December 15, 2004 11:05 PM Subject: [Zappa-List] REOFFER Austin 73 Munich 79 Hello everyone, With much thanks to Danny O'Dare, I now have these two shows to pass on to the first person to contact me offlist with the usual promise to reoffer. You can be sure that for decades psephologistswill be examining and puzzling over this aberrant vote, which saw the anti-Nader vote neatly split two ways between Mr Bush and Mr Kerry. Ironically, during the build-up to the election Mr Kerry had been severely criticised for announcing his candidature, the fearbeing that he would split the anti-Bush vote. However, history turned out different. "Even more remarkable, Mr Bush graciously agreed to stand-down in favour of Mr Nader, despite the fact thatthe Republican Party managed to win every single stateunder the electoral college system, and the fact that Osama Bin-Laden despatched an immediate video message expressing his satisfaction with the presidential election results. This unexpected decision was thought to be at least partlydue to the constant harassment of the radical documentary-maker, Mr Michael Moore, who promised to followMr Bush day and night, wherever he went, with a camera team. Shortly after 'congratulating' Mr Nader through gritted teeth, live on NBC, Mr Bush-believe that the mikes and cameras had been turned off - was heard to mutter, 'What the goddamned hell happened to our voter suppression operation?'. "Mr Nader's first official, presidential declaration was that Frank Zappa musical appreciation classes were to be made compulsory in all schools - with perhaps a bit of Captain Beefheart and Edgar Varese thrown in for good measure. This decision provoked the Southern Republican senator, Mr Duke Newt Hazard, to declare thatMr Nader was planning to 'inflict the devil's music on our young and vulnerable', adding: 'Nader's despotic,communist-homosexualistagenda poses a mortal threat to the moral and spiritual fibre of the American people, if not world civilisation itself'. The increased number of voters seems to have benefited Bush rather than Kerry, with Bush being able to mobilise the religious/fundamentalist vote (apparently, some 4 million religious fruit-cakes votes were not 'utilised' in 2000, they just stayed at home and prayed, wrestled with snakes, talked in tongues, or whatever these sort of people do - quite a lot of Amish, etc, voted for Bush this time round). Re: [Zappa-List] FW: Republican View of Bush Administration I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS!!
Definitely "interesting"! Though it is very importantnot tofall for the 'Bush is not a real conservative' type line. Oh, yes he is - a geneuine, 100%, 24-carat reactionary/conservative/rightwinger!!! Otherwise, if not careful, you might fall for the illusion that the answer lies in a supposed 'real' conservatism, which is then falsely counterposed to 'unreal' or 'radical' conservatism. Dangerous path ... yes, yes, I know that Zappa talked about 'practical conservatism' - at one stage, anyway - but that makes no sense to me. Either you are a conservative/reactionary or you are not - or at least, that is the choice that will, ultimately, be presented, and you cannot avoid it (exceptin a pseduo way by retreating, or 'escaping',into philosophical obscurantism, get your Derrida or Wittingstein out or something). cheers, DANNYRichard Poulin [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Some of you may be familiar with this, I don't know, but I thought it would be appropriate. It looks like Kerry is going to win. Charlie Reese writes for the Orlando Sentinel. He's a Conservative Republican who is anti-abortion, anti-tax-and-spend, loudly critical of legislation by the judiciary, doesn't think much of ulticulturalism or secularism, has suggested Clinton "turned the Oval Office into a whorehouse," thinks Ronald Reagan is the greatest thing to come down the pike since canned beer, and voted for Bush in the last election. So, take a look at his article which follows. Carrol C. Marks801 International Parkway Suite 5Orlando FL 32746 [EMAIL PROTECTED] Vote For A Man, Not A PuppetOrlando SentinelCharlie Reese Americans should realize that if they vote for President Bush's re-election, they are really voting for the architects of war - Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, Paul Wolfowitz and the rest of that cabal of neoconservative ideologues and their corporate backers. I have sadly come to the conclusion that President Bush is merely a front man, an empty suit, who is manipulated by the people in his administration. Bush has the most dangerously simplistic view of the world of any president in my memory. It's no wonder the president avoids press conferences like the plague. Take away his cue cards and he can barely talk. Americans should be embarrassed that an Arab King (Abdullah of Jordan) spoke more fluently and articulately in English than our own President at their joint press conference recently. John Kerry is at least an educated man, well-read, who knows how to think and who knows that the world is a great deal more complex than Bush's comic-book world of American heroes and foreign evildoers. It's unfortunate that in our poorly educated country, Kerry's very intelligence and refusal to adopt simplistic slogans might doom his presidential election efforts. But Thomas Jefferson said it well, as he did so often, when he observed that people who expect to be ignorant and free expect what never was and never will be. People who think of themselves as conservatives will really display their stupidity, as I did in the last election, by voting for Bush. Bush is as far from being a conservative as you can get. Well, he fooled me once, but he won't fool me twice. It is not at all conservative to balloon government spending, to vastly increase the power of government, to show contempt for the Constitution and the rule of law, or to tell people that foreign outsourcing of American jobs is good for them, that giant fiscal and trade deficits don't matter, and that people should not know what their government is doing. Bush is the most prone-to-classify, the most secretive president in the 20th century. His administration leans dangerously toward the authoritarian. It's no wonder that the Justice Department has convicted a few Arab-Americans of supporting terrorism. What would you do if you found yourself arrested and a federal prosecutor whispers in your ear that either you can plea-bargain this or the President will designate you an enemy combatant and you'll be held incommunicado for the duration ? This election really is important, not only for domestic reasons, but because Bush's foreign policy has been a dangerous disaster. He's almost restarted the Cold War with Russia and the nuclear arms race. America is not only hated in the Middle East, but it has few friends anywhere in the world thanks to the arrogance and ineptness of the Bush administration. My money would be on a Bush and Edwards administration. Read on:WASHINGTON -- If the presidential election is as close as many expect it to be and neither President George W. Bush or Democratic presidential nominee John F. Kerry can earn the 270 electoral votes to be elected president, then the U.S. House of Representatives would be called on to choose the winner. The 12th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which was ratified in 1804 in response to the 1801 presidential election when Thomas Jefferson failed to receive an electoral majority, gives the House the responsibility of choosing the president, while the U.S. Senate picks the vice president.Only two times in U.S. history has this happened. The House chose John Quincy Adams instead of Andrew Jackson in 1825 because several third-party candidates sifted electoral votes away from them. In 1837, the Senate was asked to choose the vice president after a disputed race before the time that political parties ran on the same ticket. While this scenario is certainly not probable, it is quite possible considering the closeness of the candidates this year. The new president and vice president would be chosen by a joint session of the House and Senate on January 6, 2005 when they officially count the electoral votes for each candidate. If neither candidate receives 270 votes, then Bush would likely be reelected since control of the House is solidly with Republicans. Each of the fifty states receives one vote as prescribed by the 12th Amendment and Republicans have a majority delegation in 30 of those states.Yet, the only way this procedure would be needed is if the Electoral College is split 269-269 if an elector switches their vote or abstains. A Republican West Virginia elector has already vowed to switch his vote if Bush wins his state.Additionally, Colorado's ballot initiative that would split that state's electoral votes rather than the usual winner-take-all for the winner of the popular vote could play a role in making the presidential race tighter than expected. Finally, if the Democrats regain control of the U.S. Senate in next week's elections, then they would probably choose Democratic vice presidential nominee John Edwards to join Bush in the executive branch._Check out Election 2004 for up-to-date election news, plus voter tools and more! http://special.msn.com/msn/election2004.armx Yahoo! Re: [Zappa-List] FW: Republican View of Bush Administration I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS!!
Must admit, I would seriously question the idea that John Kerry is "an educated man, well-read, who knows how to think"!! Kerry, maybe, has a veneer ofeducationat veryexpensive fee-payingcolleges, but this is strictly of the straight-laced think-as-you-are-told to variety. Surely, almost by definition - he cannot know how to "think" (even if he can speak French!!)because he is a 100% creature of the establishment, therefore fully accepts received opinion/prejudices, and is fully committed to the patriotic maintenance of the American military-business-industrial complex. Amen, brother, amen! Workers of the world unite and listen to Frank Zappa!! (and register to vote - even if there is no one to vote for in your zone of activities). I read yesterday that the Republican beast-machine in Michiganis engaged in a "voter suppression" operation, seeing how it is a 'swing' state. Obviously, by "suppresion" they mean preventing - by all sorts of foul and diabolical means - Blacks, Hispanics, lefties, Democrats, etc from voting at all. Maybe time to take to the lifeboats or escape pod, with your i-Pod of Zappa music? I mean, talking about life imitating art - has anybody read Philip Roth's The plot against Americaand Philip K Dick's The man in the high castle ...? I like to think he'd continue to expose political and commercial corruption if elected, and I'd love to see Boosh impeached. Problem is Nader/Camejo's platform seems too idealistic to most. The solution is there he'd just need to get the rest on board, which sadly would probably prove fruitless. I mean superficially, I certainly don't make 50 grand a year and I'd appreciate a tax break. I'm on board with nearly, if not all Nader has to say. I really wish your statement about voting for Nader wasn't true, but it probably is.
