That's what I had in mind when I packaged it that way. I commend all that
had this vine pass through their hands and kept them together so far. It's
been quite a while now. A quick reminder that the PAL disc was the original
source and so preferable if your equipment can play it.

As I am not part of this vine, I hesitate to 'feedback'; however:

It appears that as a group we don't all follow the instructions for vining
to the letter, which makes tracking the progress of a vine problematic (and
I'm not pointing any fingers, just stating fact). I suggest leaving the vine
as is, to allow recipients to select whatever format they want/need when the
disks arrive, and to keep it simple. Splitting into 3 vines allows more
opportunity for error and loss...

Not that it's any of my bees wax, but this set consists of 3 discs,
whereas basically you only need one ! There's a PAL disc, an NTSC disc
and a DivX disc. Wouldn't it be more interesting to split this up and
make individual vines so that people can subscribe to the disc they

Feedback on this appreciated.

Either way, this is a truly superb recording in TOP quality. Don't

Most of that stuff has been traded free on groups like this for years. Then
when the internet downloading thing really kicked in about 5 years ago every
Zappa fan (with a broadband connection) could have the best possible copy
available for free. Now keep in mind that most if not all of this stuff was
just not available from the ZFT at that time. Most was not available for far
too many years from legitimate retail sources. We have attempted to stop the
trading or vines of things when a ZFT version is released. One never knows
when a favorite live show is suddenly going to be released by the ZFT
though.

As for eBay they have rules against selling this sort of thing but they just
don't enforce them. The truth is that they make too much money from this
sort of thing. They even have a rule against selling any disc that's on
written media as opposed to a factory pressing.

[Zappa-List] Re: VO - PAL/NTSC DVD+AV I- The Yellow Shark - Frank Zappa / Ensemble Modern

2008-01-20 Thread Jim L
Yes the PAL is better but the NTSC is not bad. The audio quality is probably
best (lossless PCM) on the PAL while the conversion software only offered
Dolby Digital AC3 sound for the output on the NTSC. Even the AVI file is
very good with its VBR mp3 high bitrate sound. The quality of the original
PAL disc being so far above average was why I decided to go ahead and create
some conversions. If you can play a PAL disc though it's the one to have. Or
maybe copy all three with discs being so cheap now.

Frank Zappa's Wife Threatens Musicians' Collective; Fan Club Responds

July 25, 2007

This Saturday, the city of Berlin will dedicate a street to the memory of
Frank Zappa. But Gail Zappa, wife of the late rock iconoclast, has
threatened to sue the musicians' collective behind the naming unless
Germany's formally-chartered Zappa fan club withdraws from the event.

A letter from a Dusseldorf law firm accuses Arf-Society e.V. (the fan club)
of exploiting the street dedication for its own purposes, and of copyright
violations and other rights infringements. The letter also contends that
Gail Zappa did not know about the street-naming, and that she should have
been contacted for approval.

In response, Thomas Dippel, Arf-Society chairperson, released the following
statement:

With great dismay and surprise, Arf-Society - organizer of biggest known
Zappa festival in the world for the last 18 years - must take note of Gail
Zappa's effort to prevent our participation in the inauguration of
Frank-Zappa-Street in Berlin.

How this all came about: Acting on a proposal by the ORWOhaus musicians'
collective, the Marzahn-Hellersdorf district board approved renaming 'Road
13' as 'Frank-Zappa-Strasse', the first street in Germany named for a rock
musician. This major recognition of Frank pleased us greatly, of course. We
immediately contacted ORWOhaus to assure them of our help in any way we
could.

When Ahmet Zappa [Zappa's second son] was in Berlin on November 6, 2006,
publicizing his first book, members of ORWOhaus invited him to take part in
the preparations and the event itself. By making contact with the Zappa
family, ORWOhaus hoped to spark a dialog about plans for the event. The
family never responded to these overtures.

So, Arf-Society began to help by contacting Zappa tribute band 'Sheik
Yerbouti', and by arranging the participation of Napoleon Murphy Brock,
revered Zappa band member and star of last year's Zappa Plays Zappa tour. In
fact, Arf-Society is paying half of Mr. Brock's travel expenses, which
enables ORWOhaus to put a serious representation of Zappa's music on stage
for the celebration, despite a very limited budget.

But then ORWOhaus received a letter from Thomas Schmitz, of the Dusseldorf
law firm Reiman Osterreith Kohler Haft, dated July 10, 2007, saying that
they were retained to represent the legal interests of Gail Zappa and her
children after press releases saying that Arf-Society would be involved in
the street-naming. Gail Zappa would sue because Arf-Society 'is constantly
violating her trademark rights and copyrights, and exploiting the artistic
heritage of Frank Zappa. Our client will under no circumstances put up with
that Society taking publicity from the street renaming for their own
purpose.'

These groundless accusations hurt us deeply, as we have strived for almost
two decades to honor and preserve Frank Zappa's musical heritage. Long
before 2004, we repeatedly invited Gail Zappa and her family to work
together with us, especially since they would profit from our work promoting
Frank's legacy. Yet, Gail Zappa's only answer reads: 'If you want to play
with me, you have to play it by my rules!' She has also threatened other
Zappa tribute bands and artists with restraining orders for quite some
time.

Mrs Zappa, we protest explicitly against the unwarranted claims you raised.
As Frank would have asked, are you 'only in it for the money?'

tribute bands

We're talking about

RE: [Zappa-List] Re: Zappa Radio

2007-11-26 Thread Jim L
Ah well it all depends on what browser your using. The short answer is yes,
you need to download the live 365 player if you're using Internet Explorer.
With Firefox it asked me how to handle a PLS file. I tried Windows media
player with no luck. Then I tried Media Player Classic and that worked but
not as well as the Live 365 player.

This is all new and different from how it used to work. Originally a small
browser window would open much like at Wolfgang's Vault no matter what
browser was used. I'm not sure this is a change for the better. The live 365
player is though and plays it well in IE. For best results in Firefox get
the IE 365 player and then get this handy plug in for Firefox.

 https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1419

It lets you render any page like IE does in Firefox. It even works at the
Microsoft update site.

[Zappa-List] group mind help needed

2007-11-22 Thread Jim L
I received this private message on Dime today. It's in relation to the Beat
club DVD. Before I set out on a major fact finding mission just thought I'd
check the group mind. Anyone?

http://www.regyptionstrut.com/bc.htm

- PM --

Hey there!

Maybe you can help. Upon rearranging cdr's I found an mpg file of FZ from
French TV October 1968, but the date listed is October 23rd. It appears to
be the same performance. Do you know in fact if the date of the 10th is
correct?

Ok I still have an extra set of disc images backed up on DVD data
discs. Two discs hold the whole thing plus a couple of bonus shows.
These are bin/cue disc image files that can be easily burned with Nero
or Roxio or Sonic or the free Burnatonce software I included on the
discs. The images were made from the original audio CD vine discs
provided for initial distribution on the first MITB vine. A DVD burner
is not required to use these discs as they are audio CD images but a
DVD rom drive in your PC is to read them. I'm willing to mail these

I agree. Back in 1980 I could recommend lots of good ones for about $250.
Now it's best to just look on ebay for a good used direct drive unit. A new
magnetic cartridge is a lot more now too. This place is the best I know of
for new.

http://www.needledoctor.com/

Then if you have a newer receiver without a phono input you need a phono
pre-amp for a regular line input.

This was a vine here a little over a year ago. The link is to the last
message from the vine.

It's one of the great sound board recordings of the '84 band. This one is
what is commonly referred to as a liberated bootleg and sounds great.
Apparently someone was offering what was supposed to be an even better
sources or something at Zappateers.

Has anybody else d/l this from Zappateers tracker ?

I can detect what seems like a skip at the start of Cocaine Decisions.
I checked my copy of the Kreega Bandola boot and it doesn't seem to be
present on that.

Nobody else seems to have mentioned/noticed it.

I was just freaking out to a bit of Stage Vol 2 yesterday when I looked at
the back of the cd case to see when it came out.

I couldn't believe it when it said 1988,well I suppose I could when I
thought about it but blimey how time flies.

Superb show though.
Vol 1 is ace.
Three is excellent.

The 82 stuff on 4 is great.

Vols 5 6 are ok but not so good, and seem a bit rushed perhaps
understandably ;-((

What do others think of the Stage series ?

Converting FLAC SHN is easy. For FLAC go here and download their
free software:-

http://flac. http://flac.sourceforge.net/ sourceforge.net/

and here for the SHN software download software:-

http://www.etree. http://www.etree.org/shncom.html org/shncom.html

There are usage instructions on these sites also.

Good luck

RE: [Zappa-List] Fillmore shows on Ebay?

2007-01-14 Thread Jim L
Maybe or maybe not. Many of the shows we share freely turn up regularly on
Ebay. Most of these shows can be downloaded in lossless flac format for free
or obtained by vines here and other places. This is usually where the folks
selling on Ebay get their recordings but there is just no way to stop them.
Ebay makes money from every sale and so has no motivation to enforce their
own rules against this bootlegging. By EBay's own rules nothing on
recordable media is supposed to be allowed but thousands of them are
available. Likewise there seems to be no end to the customers that will
gladly pay outrageous prices for what they could get for free. Who knows,
perhaps they have more money than they know what to do with. All I know is
that we are getting the same stuff for free and that's the way it should be.
I learned my lesson several years ago. I was new to this group and had just
ordered a VCD copy of The Dub Room Special from Ebay. I think it was $35
and on 2 CDs. Someone here pointed me in the direction of what was then Easy
Tree (now known as DimeADozen) where I downloaded the same thing. In fact I
got the download first and it was perfect. A few days later my Ebay copy
arrived and it had a couple of glitches when played back. Of course it's
been released on DVD now so can't be obtained for free anymore.

RE: Re: RE: [Zappa-List] 31 Oct 1981 Video from Both Shows Dillema

2006-12-30 Thread Jim L
The 31 Oct 1981 date had an early show and a late show. The TTNS DVD that I
transferred was made from the most complete version and it contains portions
of both shows intermixed. MTV also broadcasted a shorter version of one of
the shows. Then there are a few other less complete versions. Most of what
was on Night Flight came from the official release known as The Dub Room
Special. The Dub Room is made of footage from both the KCET '73 show and the
TTNS '81 shows. It also features some great claymation and some casual time
with Frank having fun. You can get a good deal on the Dub Room at Amazon.

I'm afraid I was responsible for that miss labeling. The MTV version
is of
course the MTV version and when I originally got it well it was said

from the late show. It might be only from the late show I don't

turned
out to be a mixture of both late and early. After close examination be
several who had audio versions that were for sure split as early and
late
this is how the mix on TTNS brakes down.

It's 9AM here in Michigan. I'm drinking a nice cup of Starbucks French Roast
(with a drizzle of Hazelnut creamer), trying to ignore the after effects of my
trip to Belgium last night...

We had our 'personal' gift exchange last night - later today is with the
extended family - and I did imbibe in some of my gifts: a tall Chimay, a small
Duvel, Maredsous, Corsendonk. As it appears I may never actually visit
Belgium, enjoying their Brew is a vicarious thrill.

Today, a tasty US Microbrew: Arcadia Scotch Ale.

But for now, the coffee is making my tongue feel less troop-trodden...

Merry Christmas, all!

I also have Them Or Us - The Book if anyone is interested.

I have a ton of stuff I've collected for decades and am now wanting
to get rid of it all. I live in Los Angeles and would like to avoid
putting it up on ebay but am planning on doing it soon. Just giving
anyone first shot here before it goes out to the public.

I have promo buttons, postcards, promo 8x10 glossys, a very rare
unused early '80s promo sticker from Maxima gold strings with FZ's
photo as well as Warren Cuccurullo's photo. It also comes with one
of the gold strings in it's original package - unused.

Lots of magazines with FZ on the cover with interviews, books and

I was wrong about the Fillmore West show being gone. It's still available
http://concerts.wolfgangsvault.com/ConcertDetail.aspx?id=1361|4901 here.

Hard to find on the website though.

I do have this show (courtesy of Zappeteers) and have confirmed that it is
the same show, but a completely different recording. There is a different
balance in the sound (wolfgangs appears better, but it streams at a low
bitrate so the flac version could be exceptional. The drop outs aren't the

They say downloads are coming but some details still need worked out. It
also says they've transferred the well preserved tapes to the highest
quality digital formats. I can only hope they will offer downloads in flac
or an equivalent format then. I can't find the Zappa concert today so I
guess it rotated out. I'm listening to a Black Sabbath concert from 1975
just now. Brings back some old memories cause I always went to see them back
then when they came to town back then. Anyway I'm hopeful that downloads of
a few Zappa shows among others will be available soon.

Thank you for that info. Much appreciated. I am still wondering
though, it this recording currently in circulation in the FZ trading
community?

I just checked the FZ shows database and it's listed as circulating as a 62m

sbd in A- quality, and it also says the first 20m circulate under a different

date (24/6/70),

If you're not familiar with the site I'm talking about just google for FZ

This would be an excellent
time. Someone uploaded an alternate version this weekend thats from an
inferior source. I pointed out the one Ive had up for nine months, and its
superiority. This prompted many defections and to my surprise, a few extremely
fast seeders to join the swarm. Even if you cant join the swarm today
this should breathe new life into this old torrent that was on its last

2006-10-14 Thread Jim L

Your getting the idea
Andrew, but you need to post a new list with each request. In other words You
need to find the most recent list of recipients and add yourself on to it. For
this vine it would look like this.

Carlos (Portugal) Albin Baeyens (Belgium)
 ???

You would replace the
question marks with your desired name and your country. Then include the
updated list in your email to the group (near the top). Ive noticed
several of our new members having trouble understanding this. In fact the list
in my example here should probably be longer if everyone had signed up
properly. See the complete explanation of how we do the vines here.

http://www.regyptionstrut.com/vine.htm

By the way this 1 Oct
1975 show is indeed one of the best going around. Outstanding sound quality and
a fantastic performance. Well worth resending your requests to be
included.

RE: [Zappa-List] Re: Token/KCET DVD

2006-09-25 Thread Jim L

I guess it could but
its recommended to copy the VIDEO_TS folder over to the hard drive
first. IMG Tool reads the folder at a fast speed and Im not sure a DVD
drive can output fast enough to keep up. Just out of curiosity I tried it just
now. You would just select the DVD drive as the source directory as the
VIDEO_TS folder is right on the root of a DVD. It seemed to be working but was
surly running my DVD drive at its maximum speed. I aborted at 15% and
would still recommend making a working folder on the hard drive and then using Windows
to simply copy the VIDEO_TS folder over to the hard drive. Then selecting the
working folder as the source in IMG. This way you get all the error checking
that windows offers for the copy to the hard drive. Still if hard drive space
was an issue then pointing the IMG tool directly at the DVD drive might be an
option.

If Nero gives you any
trouble at all with burning the ISO image file get this IMG burn software. Its

Does this program work when you're trying to copy from disk to disk?
I'm not working from downloaded files. The disk I have is the one I
got from John in Kansas.
It's the actual disk I need to copy.

Will it make an image from the original disk and then enable me to
burn the image on a new disk?

If you have a fast connection

had a vine a while back. Looks like JC had it last and is willing to pass it
on. All you need do is agree to do the same after making your own copy.

I must say that I
realy enjoyed adding the menu and chapters to this becouse I got to examin it
in detail. It was a great show and DZ has put together a fine band. The
cameraman was apairently front row of the balcony and able to steady his camera
most of the time on the solid rail in front of him. This makes for probably the
best audience shot video Ive seen yet. The sound is better than I
expected too making for a great 2 DVD set.

RE: [Zappa-List] RE ZPZ - NYC

2006-09-18 Thread Jim L

This one was bought
from ebay by someone who then shared it on Dimeadozen. Id call it better
than average quality for an audience shot DVD. It does seem to have some missing
from the start like he was a bit late getting to his seat. It starts off black
and then a bad picture. He fiddles with different filters and then seems to get
it about right. Its identifiable by the way the tape runs out just
before the end of Zomby Woof and probably by the very end where the taper is
aiming the camera at the marquee outside after the show. You can hear him
saying that he didnt even know if it came out or not. During the show I
thought he did a much better than average job compared to the other audience shot
video I have of various bands. The railing thats reveled near the end of
the show was the key to his steady camera I think. His balcony position
(slightly to the left of center) was good overall and he did a fair job of
zooming in during solos. The sound isnt bad either compared to most
camera sound. He may have used one of the audience audio recordings and synced
it with his video. I think there are three different audio boots of this show
counting the one made by one of our own list members. The only thing I did was
add a full menu and chapters at the start of each track corresponding to a
chapter menu. The video and audio quality is unchanged. Feel free to jump on
the vine if you think this sounds different or if you want a menued version.

Subject: [Zappa-List] Frank Zappa:
Past Flops And Future Shocks

Frank Zappa: Past Flops And Future Shocks
Richard Williams, Melody Maker, 25 August 1973

HIS ARMS AROUND a red-haired girl whose ample
chest was covered with a Mighty
Thor t-shirt, debonair Frank Zappa (32) sank
deeper into the couch, flexed his
bare bronzed torso, refused a Gitane ? Too
strong for me ? and concentrated
his mind on the latest edition of the Mothers of
Invention.

This is the first of my bands, he said, which
possesses the technical
facility to play the harder stuff from memory.

The band, an octet, is currently on tour in
Europe, and makes its only British
concert appearance at the Empire Pool, Wembley,
on September 14. The new lineup,
which has already completed two tours of America

and one in Australia,
comprises
Zappa on guitar and vocals, Jean-Luc Ponty
(violin), Ian Underwood (clarinet,
bass-clarinet, flute, synthesiser), Bruce Fowler
(trombone), George Duke
(keyboards), Tom Fowler (bass-guitar), Ralph
Humphrey (drums), and Ruth
Underwood ? Ian's wife ? on marimba, vibes,
typani, and assorted small
percussion.

It is not, said Frank, in any way a successor to
or continuation from the
20-piece Grand Wazoo/Hot Rats orchestra which
appeared at the Oval cricket
ground last year.

It doesn't sound like any band of any sort that
you've heard any place ? the
instrumentation alone gives it a completely
different tone quality. As a result
of the widely differing timbres of the
instruments, you get a lot of contrast.

Much of their material, too, is unfamiliar. 'St
Alphonzo's Pancake Breakfast',
'Don't Eat The Yellow Snow', two blues called
'Penguin In Bondage' and 'Slough
My Throng', and lastly something called, 'Don't
You Ever Wash That Thing?' which
Frank describes as an instrumental with
choreography.

They'll also be playing some old favourites,
specifically 'The Eric Dolphy
Memorial Barbecue', 'Green Genes', 'King Kong',
'Chunga's Revenge', and ? for
the first time in five years and by popular
demand ? 'Brown Shoes Don't Make
It'.

To coincide with the tour, there is (inevitably)
A New Album ? by the same
personnel plus trumpeter Sal Marquez. It's called
Over-Nite Sensation, and
contains none of the compositions mentioned
above. Instead, it sounds like
another sneaky attempt by the Mothers of
Invention to get their cruddy music on
the radio.

There didn't seem much more to say about this new
band until we'd all got a
chance to hear it, so Frank discussed the Grand
Wazoo tour: All the concerts
were great ? except the one in London.

It's tough to take a 20-piece electric band to a
frozen cricket ground where
the audience is trying to tear down the
goal-posts (?) and burn them to keep
themselves warm. But we broke all records at the
Felt Forum in New York.

The Grand Wazoo seemed, I suggested, like a
pinnacle of his career, the object
he's always been aiming at right from the days of
Freak Out.

It would have been that kind of a climax, if the
band had been able to memorise
the arrangements, and if the technical equipment
had been of the right quality.
The only thing that's important is whether you
have the opportunity and the
money to present your crazed ideas properly.

200 Motels wasn't done properly because there
wasn't enough time or money. The
Wazoo tour, for instance, did five concerts and
grossed 90,000 dollars ? and I
lost 2,000 dollars of my money on it. There was
no way that I was going to make
any.

I gauge the success of something by whether I
can appreciate the outcome on a
personal spectator level. If all the parts aren't
audible, it isn't right ? and
that goes back to the technology and the money to
provide it.

On 200 Motels, the orchestra beat the shit out
of the music ? they just didn't
play it properly. I couldn't even recognise it
when they'd finished. Most of the
actors were non-professionals, and the whole
thing was shot in 56 hours. We all
needed more time, and if I'd had it, I've have
gotten better performances out of
everybody, because they were the right people for
those roles.

In spite of that, I think it was a good film,
and I believe that over a period
of years you're going to find out how many
strange predictions in the script
actually come true.

Such as what?

Well, pay particular attention to the dialogue
between Mark, Howard, and
Aynsley. No matter how twisted you think that
plot is, it's based on things that
had happened, or on things that were based on
suppositions extrapolated from
mathematical predictions of people's
personalities

A fair question Dawayne.
Heres my stab at an answer. Its generally accepted in the
lossless music / Video Of music community that every time a DVD is converted
between PAL and NTSC or the opposite a loss of video quality is introduced.
Combine that with the fact that the cheapest DVD player you can find at walmart
can convert on the fly without quality loss, and a good argument can be made
for never converting. Many players only need to have the TV type set to NTSC to
be able to convert. Most come set on multi mode. In multi mode a PAL disc will
give you PAL output and an NTSC disc will give you NTSC output. Going into your
players setup and setting it for NTSC only output or TV type NTSC (this
setting varies with brand) will let it give a perfect NTSC output even with a
PAL disc. This is because every player has a digital to analog converter or
DAC. Its very easy for the DAC to simulate 29 frames per second even
with 25 frames per second digital video. NTSC and PAL are broadcast TV
standards after all and DVDs only simulate the formats. They are not
broadcasts but are just video streams. My $25 APEX does it as do both of my
Philips players while my old $200 Sony player cant do it. Software to
convert without loss costs about $200 and a hardware converter that does an
even better job costs $400. Its just more cost effective to invest a few
bucks in a player that plays PAL. If your player gives you a message saying something
about region or format incompatibility then it probably cant play PAL.
If it gives you sound and a jumbled black and white rolling picture then its
probably just set on multi.

The other reason for
not converting with cheaper software is to try and maintain the integrity of
the trading pool. Its generally excepted that a DVD should be kept in its
native format. Lets take the KCET show as an example. Coming from LAs
public television station it was most certainly NTSC to start with. Somewhere
along the way it got converted to PAL and probably lost a little quality in the
process. So now if it gets converted back to NTSC another loss occurs. Later
someone in the UK
might not be able to play NTSC (although this is rare) and convert it back to
PAL again with another loss. You see where Im going with this. Better to
vine or trade the original format and then let each recipient convert his own
copy if need be, and if he doesnt mind the loss.

I have a question about the way we share DVDs on here. I just received
the KCET DVD from John G in Kansas.
It's in PAL format and needs to be
converted.

That's odd as the disc I seeded here was a direct dvd-r copy of the Room 101
silver pressed release which is code free.
I can only assume that somewhere along the line someone has kept the
original and made a PAL copy and sent that on insteador it's
possible the original was in PAL format but I didn't notice.

The disc I sent out was unbranded with a white face and KCET written on the
clear plastic inner ring..does this look like the disc you have Dawayne
?

Zappa's percussionist Ed Mann recently did a wonderful

talented film scorer. I was sorta into Zappa but thanks to YouTube

Ok this is getting confusing. If I'm not mistaken Max's OZ isn't a state of
mind but rather a country down under known as Australia. At least that's
what all my buds in New South Wales call their country online. In order to
hoppinate accurately I have changed everyone's country designation from
slang or state (not to be confused with nation state) to it's proper two
letter designation. Max if I'm wrong about your location let us know for
hoppinatin's sake.

Actually Room 101 is a
bootleg label. Completely illegitimate as far as owning or having any legal
rights to the stuff they sell. They do a fine job packaging their stuff but distributing
it by vine or torrent is almost always alright to do. In the torrent community its
often referred to as liberating a bootleg. In other words giving away free what
someone had no right to be selling to begin with.

It's an exact copy of the Room 101 dvd which was sent to me by a trading

was able to acquire an original copy myself.
Room 101 have put out some lovely stuffthe artwork is superb.
Zappa wise they have also released the NYC Palladium 81 show and Barcelona

I'm not sure if they're a European or US label or if they're still going.

I decided to try something a little different this time. The PA
show is in
three bin-cue disc images. This should make burning a perfect disc
even
easier. The other shows are in flac or shn and I included windows
software
(TLH) for extracting them to wav files. I also included some
burning
software but I don't think anyone will need it. Nero, Roxio and
Sonic as
well as many others can burn bin-cue images. Even Mac's can use
them.
Remember that you don't need a DVD burner to participate in this
vine. Just
a DVD drive and a CD burner.

[Zappa-List] Possible Barcelona upgrade coming next month.

2006-07-05 Thread Jim L

Just thought Id
share this with the list. Several of you downloaded my version of the Barcelona
Spain DVD 1988-05-17. I think we had a vine of it here as well and if we didnt
we should have. So over the weekend I was told about a rebroadcast thats
coming up and a fan thats all set up to capture it digitally. Below is
his comment from my Barcelona
details page on dime. This upgrade if it goes well should provide a full stereo
soundtrack and improved picture of one of the best FZ performances ever
captured on film.

Jim
 L

In comment #1187821 SharksTeeth wrote something like this:
I just got a PM from someone who is (I Guess) in Spain. Anyway he said that this
great show is scheduled for rebroadcast in digital format. Sounds like he is
going to make an upgrade to this torrent so keep an eye out for it. He
mentioned Zappateers so it might be seeded here or there or both. Of course
when I replied to the PM it deleted his message and I didnt take note of
the rebroadcast date. Sometime in the near future I think though.

Hi, was me. The rebroadcast is scheduled for August 5 and 6 (Yes, twice. This
will prevent any power cut problem due a summer storms). So, in a month from
now plus the time needed to do the authoring the upgrade will be shared here.

Of course the source at the TV station will be from the same anagogic tapes,
but this time the recording will be digital. I will use SharksTeeth´s DVD as
reference and guide to do the authoring and will list with detail the changes.

I will redo also the DVD artwork created by Jeremy Haynd to include the changes
in the source and to differentiate both copies. But only the minimal necessary
to do this, I want to respect their fantastic design.

If all goes OK, the new torrent info will be placed here.

RE: [Zappa-List] ISO: Zappa plays Zappa tour 2006

2006-07-03 Thread Jim L

They are good shows to
be sure. Better than I had expected in fact. We mostly do vines here and have
developed our own unique system. If you have a DVD drive in your computer I
would recommend the 4 shows on a data DVD vine. Otherwise we have a couple of
CD only vines going to. Look for ZPZ or Zappa plays Zappa. Heres how we
do vines.

[Zappa-List] RE: attn: njks.geo about ZPZ 4 shows vine / was - ZPZ Goldmine

2006-07-01 Thread Jim L

Ah I never made the connection.
Ive enjoyed many fine works from the vault though. Now if we could just
hear from or about njks.geos location the Hopination can be triangulated.

There really is
getting to be a glut of these ZPZ shows. Still I can understand how everyone
that got to see one wants to have a recording of the show they attended.
Ive listened to several of them now and they do all seem to have a
little something that sets them apart from the rest. I think a record might be
set this year for the most recorded tour ever from the audience.

Hii, all!

There seems to be a problem with the timing of e-mails being sent out when
we sign up.

This is how the lineage shou;ld look like using the message board at the
times:

Jim L-USMike
G_USNick UKnjks.geo Mark Timbrell-UK John G in
Kansas-
USElectricLoopsta
tion2 in BelgiumKevcaf@
... Skipsign- US
Thierry Barbier-FR

I originally signed up at 5.50 a.m. 26 June right after Jim's query about
Njks's entry - Mark then left me out:

Jim L - US Mike G - US
 njks.geo - Mark Timbrell - UK ??

at after 9.00 a.m..

The reason for this is that although my message hit the message board, it
didn't get to Mark's e-mail account until later. Checking it out on the
message board is a better way than relying on individual e-mail maybe.

This has been a problem in the past. Maybe we should then just read the
message board and ignore our e-mail account listings with vines like this -
messages get onto the message board usually pretty quickly - wouldn't solve
the problem completely, but that's what I've been doing and it seems fairer
that way.

what do you's lot think???

Kind Regards, nick

I decided to try something
a little different this time. The PA show is in three bin-cue disc images. This
should make burning a perfect disc even easier. The other shows are in flac or shn
and I included windows software (TLH) for extracting them to wav files. I also
included some burning software but I dont think anyone will need it.
Nero, Roxio and Sonic as well as many others can burn bin-cue images. Even Macs
can use them. Remember that you dont need a DVD burner to participate in
this vine. Just a DVD drive and a CD burner.

RE: [Zappa-List] 26/10/73 speed corrected( report )

2006-06-19 Thread Jim L

It must be an extremely
subtle correction. I just cant hear the difference going back and
fourth. What this recording does have is the unmistakable sound curve of
a recording that was recorded with Dolby Noise reduction on and then played
back with it off. This enhances the high end in a somewhat unnatural way and I
think cant be fixed properly with digital effects. It could probably be addressed
in some manner though. Unfortunately they didnt do this at all. This is
a common problem with tapes being digitized from that era. The enhancement of
the high end is meant to be removed along with the his. Thats what it
was put in for. Still this is a fine boot.

RE: [Zappa-List] zappa plays zappa june 17th 2006, chicago at auditorium theatre

2006-06-18 Thread Jim L

I dont think
any video has surfaced. Im compiling all the lossless audio recordings (7
so far and more to come) and havent seen Chicago yet. There is a planed DVD of the
tour so they are probably discouraging video. Still some of the new small
digital cameras can take a good 60 second clip. I imagine something like that
might show up.
