We are doing the same upgrade here with one of our systems. The only
difference is we are moving to new hardware on the application and
database side. Here was our approach:
* Take a copy of current production.
* Restore to new database server.

We have a request to format data that is stored in a character field.
The data is standard IP addresses: xx.x.xx.xxx The idea is to make each
octet three characters by padding zeros. So the previous example would
look like: 0xx.00x.0xx.xxx. We are
(java or perl) to grab each record, modify the value within
your script and update the record in Remedy.

While I have not done this I am very interested in how your upgrade will
go. If you could let us know after you are done I am sure it will be
informational.

This is something I was going to send an email about this so I guess now
is a good time. I have view forms that look at external db tables where
the db's are on the same server as ARSYSTEM. These external db's are
going to be moving to another server. My question is can I just build
new view forms
-- Create new Linked server.
The security settings might be particular to your SQL setup...
Then you just create the view with the servername in it
server.database.dbo.table. In my case I had the hyphen problem but
assuming you don't, that should work.

Jennifer,
6.3 is no longer supported. You can verify this by looking at the

YHK,
This will not work. Remedy does not recognize an insert into an external
table. You must use an escalation.

When upgrading from 7.0.1 to 7.1 is it necessary to purge the licenses
on the server before you begin the upgrade? If this is done, will the
upgrade pick up the correct information for the all the licenses on the
server?
Thanks,
Roger A. Nall
