Re: eloquence on IOS.

Somebody in here said that no apple voices are availaable for NVDA and such. However there is an addon somewhere that lets you switch to samantha. I don't think its very ood, and I think you have to pay, but I heard a sample of it from someone once.As far as eloquance on IOS or OSX goes, I'm not sure I could ever switch from alex. I like eloquance on pc sure, but it just wouldn't feel right on an apple device. That is of course just my opinion though, others may feel differnt. Especially for my phone and texting, I wouldn't want a rebotic voice like eloquance reading messages, I'd prefer a more human sounding voice like alex. At times I do enjoy typing stupid things for the novilty voices on mac to say, but that usually is only for 10 minutes or so when i'm bored or something. Those would be kinda funny on IOS though, heh.

It was around post 178 where the true bitching started, for absolutely no reason at all. While I might've been a bit condescending, and while I might have quoted statistics and such, I was simply trying to make a point. If Simba and Enes hadn't decided that every word I had written was insulting in some way (which I truly did not intend), none of this bullshit would've happened.

Re: C# vs Java for work. Which is easier and faster to learn?

Go with what your comfortable with. You can write cross-platform apps in .NET too, using .NET core. And C# apps are available for the blind without any special components. You can write a .NET windows forms app with ease and it'll be instantly accessible, whereas with Java you need the Java Access Bridge. Java is probably more popular because of it's various philosophies: security, simplicity, object-orientation, distributional, robustness, architecture-neutrality, portability, interpretedness, high-performance, multithreadedness, and dynamicness. C# has already (for the most part) accomplished the "secure" factor, and is attempting to cross the architecture-neutral barrier as well. It's already simple, very robust, distributed, quite portable (in the right conditions, that is), high-performance, multithreaded, and even a bit dynamic. It is interpreted, in a sense; when you compile your app, it's compiled into JIT bytecode (which executes surprisingly fast). I'd say both are very good languages for work, regardless of income.

Pain-in-the-ass currency exchange rates could genuinely be someone's downfall as far as affording things. Is the software you mentioned affordable? By that I mean Goldwave, Reaper and AHC? Absolutely, I've bought 2 of them. But are they affordable in all cases? Not if your country's exchange rates aren't in your favor.Jaws opens up a whole other can of worms as that isn't meant to be afforded by individuals, as Sean rightfully put it.Now, can we settle this, as one or two definite insults have already been hurled.

Re: Developing a 2D, topdown stealth adventure

I'm not much of a coder, but I can give you things from the user side of things. First off, it will be necessary to know how much noise you're making as you walk around. This should be relatively obvious, if the game supports controllers for instance, the further you push the stick forward, the faster you walk, to move slowly, press it less, and your steps will be quieter. You could also add surfaces like metal which will clang loudly. More importantly is how much you're visible due to light. Are you out in the open, or hidden in the shadows. Some sort of system will need to be implemented that gives you a reasonable estimate of how lit up you are, and if a guard looks your way and you're lit up, he spots you, if you're cloaked in shadow, he might not, depending. A tile browser as already stated too, so you can sort of map out the way in front of you. Make the thing have a limited range, not clip through walls, but able to go through doors to limited extend if the player can see, that might be hard I don't know there. The trick would be determining how far the player can see in side that door from their current vantage, then allowing the tile browser or camera to only go that far. It shouldn't take you into some sort of map screen or anything, at least I don't think so, but pan and grow louder the closer it is to you, and quieter the further it is. You would also have different audio cues to determine how lit up that area is, and maybe a tile indicator. Maybe you could put some sort of convolution effect on the tile sound, and the more convoluted it sounds, the more hidden you would be if you went their, the more open and clean it sounded, the more exposed you would be if you went there. As far as guards go, we could listen to the patterns of their patrols, get the timing in our minds and make our move to sneak past.I really do hope you manage to pull this off, I think it would be awesome, and I've never played an audiogame with stealth elements, but I have played mainstream games with my limited vision, I could play Splinter Cell, Metal Gear Solid, Syphon Filter and the like.

Re: Developing a 2D, topdown stealth adventure

Libaudioverse, maybe? It's specifically designed to improve on problems that Camlorn found in OpenAL when he made the camlorn_audio wrapper. When you say line of sight of guards, what specifically are you trying to do? Is this just to determine whether or not they can see the player? I suppose you'd need to define how wide an arc they'd be viewing, find the line segment from the guard to the player, and if that line is within the arc and doesn't pass through obstructions, the guard can see the player. If it's tile-based, you might be able to handwave away the arc and use a rectangle instead, which would make calculations much easier. (Unless you're using a friendly geometry library, in which case, arcs are your friends.)I don't remember how picky Temporal is about it. Armed guards in Temporal only shoot along the cardinal directions, but I think guards are assumed to see or hear you if you're in the same room. But Temporal is less about stealth and more about using time travel to solve all of your problems, so it mightn't be the best example. It was just the only one I could come up with OTTOMH.I think BK3's cameras and security carts work on the rectangular model. IDK if the vertical size of their line of sight is 1 tile, or 2-3. It helps that they can only face left or right. If you need arbitrary angles, you'll need arcs and such.

Re: Why Must People Crack Games

Hi all.Well, what to say.I have been keeping out of the current arguments on here because they are heavy even for a small time pirate like me.This is approaching nuke war level though. As for different situations, well shit, there is that issue. If there are give aways and such cool, maybe if I get spare cash I may try with a group, it would certainly pull the community together though I never understood the numbers game on ahc.Now as to brain station I was going to buy it but now I wander if I should bother buying when I could try to play a game to buy it first, ofcause if I don't win I will buy it but playing a game to buy a game reminds me of some of the older games I played with friends. To unlock each level of one flying game you would have to play a small game or a puzzle to confirm you owned the game. And that was quite good for what it was and I enjoyed it a lot.As for people affording stuff, the reason I spend my cash like I do is that I live at home, but once I leave, I'm going to have to really save, that means, I'm not going to get everything all the time like I do right now.Thats life, a thing I will live with.I object to the fact people think wanting things free means cracking them though. As for a screen reader, would you leave your cane or guide dog at home.It is a right for us to be able to enjoy life as much as we can and at least try to be as accessible as we can for our work.I wouldn't say its an entitlement but things like canes, guide dogs, and in todays age, a screen reader, magnification, a phone or tablet of some sort, and a computer of some sort are needed. In business, that is also ms office, windows, and sadly yucky norton which a lot of my friends use.Right, Well while I wouldn't say you are entitled to get everything for free because you are blind it is your right as a blind person to get access where ever possible to have a full life and that that is protected. If you break that down that could be a screen reader.Sadly the low competitions in the industry is really low.Because traditionally governments and accessibility organisations handled a lot of this for education purposes, the industry sort of came up to expect enterprise things.Jaws for example is pritty much an enterprise product similar to say office pro pluss. Its really for a business. There are slightly cheaper products, supernova may be one of them window eyes well did both all were for enterprise companies. So what has changed, well opensource and freeware and freedom of things have started to make those question the establishment. So right now its opensource and cracking all the way but while thats a backlash from the users what really has to happen is the seperation of the business from the home user.Jaws for what it does is good in its job, screen readers and access tools that use their own drivers for various things are still good I still use vary little now supernova for a few things. However while office apps and business things are cool, things like net brousing, email, and home stuff are in my opinion secondary things.Nvda relies fully on the os and its library and while there are a few things I still use other readers for the fact that 99.9% of every program has a web component is well where nvda handles well.Even with this, and I am no expert, someone or a few more someones need to get either big enough to get competition moving or someone is going to have to make a move against vfo and its companies. They are just to big for their own good, in fact bar dolphin they are basically the only big company in the braill and access business with a few smaller on the side.Competition is non existant so you can  do what you want.I would not be an advocate to get rid of compercial access programs like screenreaders, after all those expensive things do have a place in the business world. When you are a home user like me, you may use office, for business related things, word processer, and spreadsheat. You may use something else for email and web brousing. You may game, and you most of all will play music, read books and the like. For me while My testing job does need me to read documents on jarte, I spend 50% of my time on my web brouser and mail combined, 10% of the time in games and the rest on my music players of choice or on an on demand stream.Lets face it, home users are not even conciddered here when it comes to their needs with some of this software. The average home user can't afford a top of the line box, or the best car.So we can't afford the top of the line screenreader.Sadly, its not like we have much choice. We have 3 readers.1 is free and is fine.Another dolphins one could be midrange its about 1000 dollars which while a bit steep is at least affordable if you update every 5 or so years. Then we have jaws. When I got that that was 3000 plus for jaws and a training package and an sma.And when I had to upgrade to a pro version of windows that was another 2000 for no extra features

Well, last night around midnight, just after I crawled into bed, I heard this loud crash. When I lived on the east of town, I lived close to a rail yard, and I would hear the occasional loading up where train cars would couple, they'd back up the loco and it'd slam into the car and couple them together. It sounded kind of like that, and I couldn't figure out what happened. Here it turns out that someone wrecked their car, hit a tree and ended up on someone's lawn. It's like catty corner from my dining room window. The thing is, there were parked cars along the street, so my conclusion is, since none of them were damaged, that he must have been driving on the sidewalk. He was probably drunk or something. They towed it off and I fell asleep soon after. It's moderately cold and fairly windy today.

The thing is, opinions are fine, and people who don't want to buy a certain game, don't buy it, that's their business. It takes a certain amount of nerve though to come on here and say its not worth it. How isn't it worth it precisely? It may not be worth it to an individual, but that's subjective, others might think its worth it, and pay for it. Therefore, to come on here and make blanket statements like that just makes no sense. So, its OK to crack word and math games, but its not OK to crack RPG's and such? That's the height of arbitrary. Anyone might have a list of genres and feel differently. Person B for instance, might think its OK to crack RPG's RTS's, and not to crack word or puzzle games.Well, keep on doing it if you're gonna do it, but know you're only shooting yourself in the foot. Also, devs that come around here and see this are not apt to consider developing games for this community. It's futile to try to convince those who are doing it not to, there's almost a fanatical attitude toward the practice, all we can do is work to dispel those that try to do it overtly here.

After playing a bit of the demo... Well, this wouldn't be too bad, I suppose. By the way, What Python Library would you recommend for getting the audio positioning. I've been using Openal, but I don't know if there's anything better. Also, I'm still trying to figure out how to handle things like line of sight of guards.

Major SpoilersThe combination to open the Heart of Deepwood changes each time you begin a new adventure. To figure it out, you need to find and read the Mysteries of Deepwood somewhere in the ruins. The riddles should be easy to figure out if you have some common sense. In order to actually complete the Tools of the Trade Quest, you need to first complete the Goblin King and I quest. You can find goblin gear everywhere in the mines. Hope that helps!End Spoilers

Hello,@cito, I'm sorry to say that man but you should really have used better words. Brainstation appears to be a very good word game and, for the people who like this sort of game, its sertainly worth the payment. What games are and aren't worth it are only subjective: It all depends on what sort of game we like. I think audiogames, for being a small market, are doing well, all things considered. As for the jaws being a want or need, for me, screenreaders in general are a need. Technology itself, in today's society, is a need.Without it, people won't be able to do a lot of things that are vital for their well-being and to have a good life, in general.

Re: Who is from London

I'm from London, and I'm only here because I'm able to use my parents' rented accommodation while they're away. As has been said already, it's bloody expensive to live anywhere, even in the poorer boroughs (and I'm in the only-slightly-nicer part of one of the poorest, Hackney, in the north and more civilised and multicultural part). I wouldn't leave, at least not just yet, first of all because it's my home, and second because London is undoubtedly a nice place to have nearly instant access to by Tube or bus. I think you're going to be disappointed if you're not otherwise able to live in the city, and it gives me no pleasure saying this, because I'd want everyone living in the city. Yes the politics is excellent--almost a country of its own, really, with the London Assembly voted proportionally and constituted and a decent enough mayor. And, of course, one of the highest Remain-voting areas in the country--I wish we could be spared the consequences of Brexit. Then again, perhaps in five years, thanks to Brexit, all the bankers and other good-for-nothing toffs will have sodded off and the hyper-speculation and money-laundering that goes with them will have resulted in substantial decreases in living costs. But I'm not holding my breath on that score--far better to have a decent national government, if people would only stop being so damned self-interested and vote one in. Then the whole country, and not just London, could benefit. And it needs to benefit because otherwise there will always be this London-envy and neglect of other parts of the country which are perfectly good places to live. Perhaps any potential visitors to this country should wait five years to see how this all plays out before making their move, as things could be very different very soon.

Re: Why Must People Crack Games

I'm afraid that is what he's saying. @Sito, you're not in a position to, might I remind you that you are in no position to tell Liam, or any dev for that matter, what should and shouldn't be paid for. What matters is that in this case, Liam is getting compensated for the hours and months spent coding the game and making it for us. This isn't your average word game as you suggest. It's a collection of games, often with an arcade-ish approach, as well as gaining achievements. The game has the highest number of achievements in audio-gaming history, 166 I believe? So Sito, if you get your hands on the game, through buying it I hope, be prepared to eat your words.Regarding Jaws being a want or need. For some instances, it could actually be a need. Some businesses and corporations are bent on using oddball proprietary business software, I'm not just talking Cytrix here. Make no mistake about it there is actually a lot of in-house Jaws scripting for this software, stuff that doesn't go out in the open. There sure as hell could be nvda addons for them, but until there's either a sudden mass increase in nvda usage across the board, or until someone finally sue Vfo's ass for acquiring and killing off all these other products as what was done to Microsoft for their anticompetition efforts, the corporate mindset is stuck on Jaws. And if there's no level of convincing that you can do to convince your business to allow you to use NVDA, you're stuck buying Jaws if the business doesn't do it for you. And it's not like one can just look for employment elsewhere either. So keep that in mind before you go all black and white and say that a screenreader is a 100% want.

I'm sorry. Am I reading this previous post correctly? So it's wrong for me to want to be compensated for my time and effort to create games for this community because these games do not measure up to someone's arbitrary standards?

podcasting apps for windows?

Hi all.for the past few days, I've been searching for a podcasting app or rather program I can use on windows. I was using podcatcher since a while ago, however I discovered a huge bug in the latest version. If you subscribed to a podcast and exited the program, you won't find it when you start the program again. All of the podcasts you've subscribed to are gone.I tried q cast and the program crashes when you try to seek backwards or forwards while an episode is playing. Also, there is no way for you to rewind or forward by short incrementsMy question is: are there any podcasting apps that are accessible for windows?ThanksBest regards.

Re: Drakor: Anyone got tips for navigatinging?

Nope you don't specifically need tools for skills, or you didn't when I last played. Tools make your  more efficient but they're not necessary. i just checked and you can learn skills under the "tradeskills" link. at the top of the page near "explore drakor", "my account", "armory", "mastery" etc. These are not links in the traditional sense,  they are hotspots and you can click on them. Once you have clicked on tradeskills, you should be able to learn skills. If I remember rightly gathering is really cheap, and once you've learned gathering you can go and gather stuff that you can then sell to learn skills like mining etc, then you can go and find nodes to use your skills on (there's one just south of danor). Hth. Drakor is a bit weird to navigate given it's all hotpsots and there are no links, but it's fine once you get to grips with it. I did write a sort of mini help  on the drakor page in the db which might also come in handy. hth.
