you can't use autoconfig for that.
Pretty much everything else in basic pref-setting autoconfig still works.
I would add the MOZ_LEGACY_PROFILES=1 with GPO in users registry well
before updating so you avoid extra profile mess.

I would reinstall ESET first. I just fixed a computer that had antivirus
blocking spooler service from starting just by reinstalling that said
antivirus program. Those things go haywire sometimes and start blocking
things they are not supposed to block.

AFAIK that is by design. That msi is exe-wrapper and after install there
is no trace that it was installed using .msi. You can't uninstall it
using msiexec /x {productcode} either.
You need to treat it like if it were installed using .exe.

My understanding about distribution directory is that it is used only
when firefox version changes or new profile is made, so that would be
the reason to try with new profile (in case you are wondering why try that)
