IMHO, it is precisely this sort of critical attitude that causes game
developers to feel disheartened and want to stop developing games. It is
precisely those sorts of remarks and comments that put me off writing games

To be honest, because user interaction is done through message boxes, I
believe it does need to be turnbased, otherwise both game and player will
probably cause confusion through showing and reading hundreds of piled up
message boxes.
