due to lack of funds for my position. My last day will be Friday,

I am writing to pass on ANOTHER price reduction on the Jewish Women's
Archive film Making Trouble. I paid $125 for this film last
fall. A few weeks ago I passed along an offer to buy the film for
$50. NOW it is only $19.95!

Is anyone in Hasafran familiar with this film? I am skeptical of
PBS's repuation for fairness in presenting Israel, so I wonder if
this film is appropriate for my library. I'd love to hear from

Is anyone familiar with the film Drancy Avenir, which uses actors to
recite published Holocaust testimonies and text juxtaposed against
varied related images? The booklet that comes with the film
specifies that it is neither documentary nor fiction. So I do not
know quite how to catalog it.

Any reviews on this film? Is it fair and balanced?
The last time I asked Hasafran if a book on the Middle East was
balanced, I received a reply asking if I meant was it
pro-Israel. No. I really mean balanced. So much about Israel and
the Middle East in the general media is

it when it was first published -- and it did provide for a lively
book club discussion about personal responsibility as related to the

I have been told that there is a machine that hooks up to a computer
to convert VHS tapes to DVDs. Since we have about 800 wonderful
Judaic VHS tapes in our collection, and many of our patrons
(including schools) no longer own VHS players, this would be

I'd just like to say that I saw this film in the theater and was not
in any way offended. I did not perceive it to be biased or in any
way anti-Israeli. To me, it was humorous and poignant. Not an
all-time classic, but a film that I know my patrons will enjoy --

Our library is located in a JCC.
Our picture book collection is entirely catalogued by Weine number,
without separation of fiction from non-fiction. My experience is
that teachers and parents come asking for picture books on Shabbat or
Pesach, and I want the Sammy Spider and other fiction
I honestly don't think we need categories -- so much to
remember. Carefully worded subject lines should be enough to inform
list members as to which e-mails we want to read and which we might
wish to delete without opening, based on our individual interests.

Another wonderful book about the Iranian Jewish community is the
memoir Journey from the Land of No by Roya Hakakian. Our book group
loved it. It's available in paperback, which is good for book groups.

We received a grant to purchase the new CD-ROM Jewish Women: A
Comprehensive Historical Encyclopedia, which is being distributed by
JPS. Unfortunately, we discovered, upon receipt, that the product
says it is not caompatible with some computers that run on Intel
Perhaps she was talking about Rutka's Notebook which was written up in the
New York Times on June 10, 2007. Rutka Laskier lived in the Bedzin ghetto

Although we are a different kind of library (community library located at a
JCC), I decided to keep the old edition of EJ on the shelf next to the new
for 2 reasons:
1. Pictures -- the new edition seems lacking in illustrations
2. The Hundred Year Calendar -- although this is easily available

I purchased one of the Veggie Tales videos a few years ago (don't remember
which one) and it ended with a Bible quote from the New Testament. I did
NOT add it to our collection. Although the telling of the story, before
this quote, may not have been offensive to a Jewish audience, there are
