Well that's what I am thinking but since it seems like everyone has one I thought maybe it was for the cows or something. I can see the point though at night I can look out and see if anybody is creeping around but with motion lights would see if somebody came up though. I guess the only drawback is the street light is way up high and not easy to take out but lower to the ground motion lights could be taken out easy by a criminal. Re: [MBZ] OT: Pol Theatre:the clown and the loser
The thing I like about Trump, although I question how well he would do as President, is that he pretty well runs roughshod over all the PC junk. You watch any of the candidates, or politicians in general, when they get asked a question that could be considered volatile and it's a bunch of verbal tap dancing around the issue so as not to offend. You can't have a position and expect everyone to like it. These people think they will be able to appeal to the largest possible demographic by avoiding offending everyone, meaning that they either don't take a position or what they say/claim is so watered down its pretty much worthless. Re: [MBZ] OT streetlights in the country
This is actually a good deal for the electric co -- they can keep their baseload plants spinning at times of low demand and not have to build as much intermediate and peaking capacity. In aggregate it probably adds up. I think too, it goes back to the original rural electrification when every house needed a porch light they kept on all night. Probably for a similar reason. I have one out on the pole where the above ground line ends and it goes underground to the house, it is maybe 150ft from the house, and lights up the woods, but it does an adequate job of putting out some light in the area out front. When the power goes out, it is REALLY dark out here. I thihk it is $5 a month. --R On 8/14/15 3:32 PM, Randy Bennell via Mercedes wrote: I think the advantage on those lights is a reduced rate. Re: [MBZ] OT streetlights in the country
I think the advantage on those lights is a reduced rate. If you run your own light all night, every night, the power will cost you more than if you use theirs. If you don't keep your outside lights on much, you may not save much, but it likely won't cost you more. RB On 14/08/2015 11:45 AM, Kaleb C. Re: [MBZ] OT streetlights in the country
Forget the power company. you did the right thing by telling them to stuff it. If you want a light, put it on a building, or worst case, put in a pole or an old windmill tower, then add whatever switches or motion sensor you want. You could really freak out trespassers by having the motion sensor play a recording telling them they are being watched and video recorded. For extra effect, add a IR sensor to aim a red laser and tell them they are in your sights and to leave or be shot. Your little tractor has a loader. With that you can raise a pole with a light on it; worst case. I still contend that the lights do little more than light the path for thieves, and that total darkness is tougher for them to deal with. You might even forgo the light in the proposed scenario, and just have a motion sensor to play a recording that tells them they are being watched, video recorded, and that they are in your rifle sights. With that coming out of the dark, they'd wet their pants trying to get away. I doubt if many would try to come back. ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

Very creative! On Fri, Aug 14, 2015 at 1:38 PM, Curly McLain via Mercedes mercedes@okiebenz.com wrote: Forget the power company. you did the right thing by telling them to stuff it. ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

I finally got the motor put back together a few days ago and it fired up and ran. Wow. Problem was it was pouring oil out the passenger side. Crap. I took a few things back off today and discovered a bolt I had put in the bottom of the head that holds a baffle on was slightly too small and was not tightened. Corrected that issue, put everything back together again, fired it back up and it runs great with no oil leaks and no oil vapor blowing out the vent hole in the valve cover like before. I just looked at my bill and I am paying closer to $10 a month for that light. I told them to remove it. Hope I am not making a mistake. I did this when I moved here in '93, and never looked back. If I'd have wanted to live under a streetlight, I'd have stayed in the city. Cost was $X/mo here, unswitched and running off of unmetered power. Was not possible to be motion-sensored, because it was a sodium vapor bulb. Could not be turned off, their policy prevented this. (I asked.) It took them months to remove it, in the meantime it was full daylight 24/7 around here. One day it was gone: pole and all! You can do better, yourself. Especially for a light that is NOT going to be on 12/7. I have not seen it at the dizzel pumps but it sorta makes sense. --R Out in the part of the country where ppl drive 25, 50 or 100 miles for a meal, the DEF is at the truck stop pumps and has been for a couple of years. Many stations now are posting a DEF price along with Benzin, Diesel, and E85. 240D, 300SDL, etc. Thankful my dissels have mechanical IPs and no need fer electronics or blue wizz juice. ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

[MBZ] OT: Pol Theatre:the clown and the loser
Here is the full interview that the trum p was raked over the coals for. The alleged terrible thing to say, when heard in context is not big deal to me. http://www.c-span.org/video/?327045-5/donald-trump-family-leadership-summit As discussed before, anyone who knows the loser (mcLame) does not think highly of him. It is also apparent that mclame fired the first shot. (people who live in glass houses should not throw stones) Over all, after watching the whole thing, I think the clown comes off pretty well. One thing i find very entertaining is how the media fires fatal shots (fatal to any Pol) and the clown turns them around and moves higher in the polls. He does not succumb to the shots because he is not a pol. Re: [MBZ] OT streetlights in the country
I have lived out in the country for many years, but now live even further out on a ranch/farm. Why do all farms/ranches have a street light on their power poll? When we turned on the power they asked us if we wanted it turned on and it's like $5 a month I believe. Problem is when you go outside at night it's lite up like, well, a street light. It comes on at dark and turns off at light. I'm thinking about calling them and telling them to turn it off. The stars would be brilliant without it and it is annoying when trying to watch the meteor shower. So anybody know of any major reason that all farms seem to have these? I think I would put up motion flood lights that I can turn off. I don't mind the light but would like to be able to turn it off. Sent from my iPhone The theory in the 50s when the dusk to dawn light came out was that thieves didn't like the light, so would not steal from you if you have a yardlight. In 1980 I took a different outlook. Most thieves come from town and are used to street lights. town people freak out when confronted by night without streetlights. I installed the yardlight myself, with a switch. I seldom turned it on. I'd tell them to turn the blasted light off. it is not worth $5 a month. It is light pollution, and a small part of the reason why most of us can't see the milky way at night. ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

Re: [MBZ] Wheels for Wilton
I see lots of marks from being poked by ten foot poles. MY 2000 W220s were rolling nightmares. So many issues you couldn’t keep them straight. There’s far more to be concerned with than the wheels and the aromatic pump not working, believe me.
