That was until an approaching noisy family scared them downstream (to the
south). Tide was low, which is an important consideration at this site (use
Willet's or King's Point table). And that goes for fiddler crabs too, which
were making an appearance. Now that's a FOS!

65th Avenue is the closest place to park, and more often than not , there is
a spot or two available. There is a traffic light here and a bus stop. Just
getting beyond the bus stop, a good part of the pond can be viewed even from
the sidewalk. There is a paved trail not too far to the north, but
The Greater White-fronted Goose is currently (3:00 1/21) on Alley Pond, near
the southwest corner.
Also a Pintail there today, adding to the variety of waterfowl that has visited
in recent weeks.

For those that are interested, I saw little in the way of grassland
passerines in the black dirt area. Flocks of 3 and 4 Horned Larks were it.

There's now a Red-necked Grebe in the West Marina at Point Lookout / Lido
Beach in Nassau County. This is just west of the terminus of the Loop
Parkway. The RNG on Alley Pond in Queens continues. Two Pine Warblers there
- most likely overwintering ones.

What looked to me to be a different Summer Tanager visited the water feature
in Cunningham Park this afternoon. Earlier in the day, Ian Resnick had one
in a northern section of Alley Pond Park. So there are few to go around in
Queens.

How about the heavy blackish line through the eye- does Red-shouldered
typically look that heavily marked or might it be an artifact
in area (where hard to see). Id's were only
possible on birds flying in or out (mostly the two Semis). I'd bet against
that being a viable roosting spot when the park eventually opens to the
public. Hopefully, the East Pond becomes a more reliable high tide refuge by
then.
