That's strange ... "Update Snapshot" shouldn't download a new
seednodes.ref (unless it has changed since I last looked at it). It only
downloads a "seednodes.ref" if it cannot find one already present in your
freenet directory... this sounds like a bug.

Re: [freenet-support] JVM Launcher Error

2004-09-22 Thread dave
Yes. If you just downloaded freenet.exe, and then some other random
files, and put them in a folder, and run freenet.exe, then that's really
useless. You should *install* freenet, by running the *installer*.

So either, as Toad says, download all the files manually, put them in a
folder, and run freenet-webinstall.exe

Or just download and run freenet-webinstall.exe... it kinda does
everything automatically (it's almost smart, in fact)

Re: [freenet-support] JVM Launcher Error

As far as I remember, the winstaller actually checks that the 1.4.x JVM is
installed. If you have the 1.5.x JVM, I believe the winstaller will still
point fred to use the 1.4.x JVM (I could be mistaken of course
because I've not even looked at any of the installer code for over a year)

That's entertaining. I don't see any information there that tells you how
to configure Freenet to use the 1.5 JRE. Unless those instructions are
intended to
a) Be applied after you have already installed 1.4 JRE
b) Not actually change the JRE that freenet uses (as Freenet will still
use 1.4 even after following the above instructions).

Maybe I missed the bit that said "edit flaunch.ini and manually enter the
path to the new JRE" (call me crazy if I did)

Of course, with mazzanet's new winstaller, I guess it will now work as
described. But I'm guessing that that wiki page is a lot older than the
new (yesterday) installer ...

I recreated the 8.3 name, everything started working.

Given the original post, I'd imagine it's some interaction between the
Windows installer and short filenames e.g. perhaps the installer assumes
that a short filename exists... (rather than anything particularly wrong
with Freenet or the JRE)

Is that true? I know it *used* to do that (about 2 yrs ago) but I
remember spending significant time and effort fixing it. However since
then the freenet config file options changed about three hundred times so
I'm pretty sure the windows config tool is next to useless now (although
I understand setting datastore size still works)

Freenet could not find the data. I'm guessing this is the first time you

Did you try 'retrying' as the message below suggests? How long have you
been running Freenet for?

Have you read any of the documentation about Freenet yet? I recommend you
do this first...

I recommend you set your system clock to the correct YEAR. it's
currently showing 2006 (as you can tell by the mail headers on the below
email you sent out)

One good reason to set the system clock to the correct YEAR (i.e. 2005) is
that date-based redirect pages in Freenet will not work if it is incorrect
(i.e. Freenet will try to look for a page with a 2006 datestamp .. which
obviously won't exist)

What is the way to tell the node to NOT run fproxy? Surely it's an easy
fix to configfile.cpp in the node configurator? I mean, I'll do it, now.

No, don't just grey out checkboxes. That will likely confuse users more
than just leaving them there, because they'll start to want to know how to
enable the checkboxes.

Sounds like mismatched versions of mfc42.dll and msvcrt.dll. They should
be a matched pair (e.g. you have msvcrt.dll installed from MSVC++6 SP5, you
should also have mfc42.dll installed from MSVC++6 SP5).
Another reason to do EITHER a static build, OR a proper full-blown

Is this list available to any of the other devs? What's anyone actually
working on at any one time (so's I don't bother doing something that
someone else is already doing - last thing I fixed was the nodeconfig.exe
not running on a vanilla win95)

Re: [freenet-support] browser

2003-10-29 Thread dave
This is nothing to do with Freenet. It sounds like you've accidentally
set 127.0.0.1: as your homepage. Did you know that if you
accidentally press CTRL+D while using IE 6.0 it will set the current page
to be your homepage? It sounds as if this is what you have done. If
you're using IE 6.0 you can set your homepage by clicking on Tools,
Internet Options, and typing a new address where it says "Address:"

If you want to set it back to Earthlink's homepage, the address you should
enter is probably http://start.earthlink.net/

Favourites and History have nothing to do with your homepage. Favourites
and History manage your favourites (on the Favourites menu and the Links
toolbar) and your history (shows you which pages you've visited recently)
respectively.

Freenet does *not* change a browser's homepage setting. Only the user can
do this themselves.

hope this helps,

It's not confusing, it just doesn't do anything. It would, if it was
finished, but it isn't finished. It's not hard to add that functionality,
it would take about twenty minutes which I don't have.

Updating the viewer is fine, irrespective of whether or not the Copy To
Clipboard button functionality works

Yes - this is because you can.

That's true, but that's a more difficult fix. Um, that's why I suggested
adding a 'launch in editor' button, but no-one's yet followed up with
saying whether it is a good or a bad idea.

"Select very meaningfully from the clipboard" ? Do you mean, like,
'paste' or what?

Which is why I ... oh never mind.

In fact, if we have 'ordinary users' using the system, then we wouldn't
really need a logfile, and we certainly wouldn't need to ask them to copy
and paste bits to the mailing lists. But that functionality's useful for
the rest of us. Just because there is a "view logfile" button doesn't
mean ordinary users need to use it. Which is why I would usually suggest
someone mailing us freenet.log, rather than trying to copy+paste from the
logfile viewer. Which is a silly thing to try to do, really.

Hm, right. That really really shouldn't happen! It's designed to not try
and copy over itself if run from its default location for obvious reasons!
I'll take a look at this when I have a chance.

Yeh, that's fine. My installation isn't on C: either (in fact I don't use
C for anything whatsoever)

Yeh, it reports space required as that's approximately how much space it
needs in addition to what's already on your system. Additional Space if
you like. But because it's a webinstall it automatically tries to
download the latest components, freenet.exe, NodeConfig.exe, etc. There's
no option to "only download the latest .jar but not any of the other
components" I'm afraid but this should probably be added. The
webinstaller needs a huge overhaul at this time, but I don't have the time
to do this for the forseeable future.

[freenet-support] route not found

2004-02-11 Thread dave
Hello,

After upgrading to 5066, I can't get anything off Freenet. It connects to
some nodes after a while, but still says it can't finde a route. I have
upgraded to 5068, but still no luck. It worked before 5066 and I have not
changed any settings after upgrading. Whats wrong?

Thanks in advance.

Bullshit, the config tools preserve the %s. If users are using old configs
that have all settings forced, then they should recreate the config file.
The software cannot do this automatically, the user will have to do this
themselves... there is no way for the config tool to know which settings
the user really wants (and may have changed) and which were just stupidly
hardcoded by the old dumb windows config tool.

Dude... neither... The autogenerated config scripts are generated (as your
image states!) by Freenet.scripts.Setup - which is a part of the Freenet
core code. The header is built into the freenet .jar file, if you like. I
agree that it's a bit unpleasant (and anybody know why the heck the header
hardcodes the line termination character combination? That's a *really*
dumb idea). But it was added because so, so, so many people didn't
understand that changing a setting wouldn't take effect if it was still
commented out by a % symbol.

Some you win, some you lose. I like the idea of posting a .png image of a
text file, by the way, nice touch :-)

Hi,

The newest snapshot still doesn´t work properly.
Attached is my freenet.ini with a numeric IP adress of my router set, but it
still claims that it is unable to detect my IP and I should assign a proper

What can I do about it?

Another question, do I have to use the unstable.ref together with the
unstabble versions?

Re: [freenet-support] Bugs using the newest unstable snapshot

2004-03-22 Thread Dave
It looks like you're running NodeConfig.exe but not freenet.exe. You should
really use the Configure option from the systray icon to edit the conf file
(or edit it by hand) - running NodeConfig.exe from the command line has
been known to produce duff ini files sometimes. I can see an amount of
weird crap towards the end of the file, who knows if that's confusing
Freenet or not.

If you are using the systray icon to edit the conf file then either
a) You have incredibly out of date freenet.exe and NodeConfig.exe software
(get the latest from freenetproject.org/snapshots)
or b) A previous install of freenet on your machine may have half-built this
config file

I'm saying this mostly off the fact that this config file doesn't look like
the regular config files produced by Freenet ; and using Configure from the
freenet systray icon makes config files in the same format ; so I'm not
sure how you got your ini file looking like that.

If you download the freenet-webinstall.exe, freenet.exe, NodeConfig.exe, and
also freenet.jar and seednodes.ref (whichever flavour you choose, unstable,
stable, ...) all into the same directory, you can rerun the webinstall from
that directory and it will reinstall Freenet from these downloaded files.
Maybe that will do what you're after.

Re: [freenet-support] encrypted files

Maybe it's simply because the file has been copied into an 'encrypted'
folder (a folder in Windows 2000 or Windows XP that has the 'encryption'
flag set) so when you look at the properties of the file in Windows

Had you put your freenet datastore in your temp directory? If so, you'll

not, you'll just have to restart the node.

I think the Windows installer explicitly looks for 1.4. versions of
java. So as long as a 1.4 jre is installed I don't see how this error

the installer or from the freenet log.

No need... you can see clearly that you are not running in sun java from
the fact that the above message says "Kaffe Virtual Machine" rather than
"Sun Java". Use Sun Java instead. Currently, as far as I am aware, only
Sun Java is capable of running Freenet reliably, due to freenet's reliance
on fairly recent java functionality.

Doesn't STUN involve connections to a centralised server? If so, we

How did you install Freenet, what version did you install, and what is
your operating system? Can't explain what's wrong until you tell us what
you did. Also did you edit the freenet.conf file manually by hand?

At first glance it looks like freenet.conf is corrupted so maybe try
deleting it and rerunning freenet.

Please don't add to the confusion Edward. Version 0.5.2.8 is the version of
freenet.exe (on Windows - as reported by looking at the About dialog), which
is NOT the same as the version of the freenet.jar. When freenet is
installed on Windows, freenet-webinstall.exe automatically downloads and
installs the latest jar.

[EMAIL PROTECTED]: you have the latest version, you don't need to upgrade
anything. It sounds like perhaps your NAT box is not correctly forwarding
the port to freenet on your machine? Alternatively, you can ignore the
"could not insert ARK" error for now, and keep trying to access content on
freenet (e.g. gpl.txt) and see if this is possible. The ARK error might go
away as your node adapts to the network.

GOSH!!! Wow, that's pretty wild. As I recall, the installer for Freenet
on Windows makes use of Nullsoft's libraries for downloading files. So it
looks like Nullsoft have inextricably tied their installer libraries to
the host default web browser being IE, which just sucks so much ass.
(Why, Justin, Why?)

I'll see if I can drill down to the problem and find a replacement
downloader library (NB - will not be this week or possibly even next, as

Which version of node are you using? You can see this on the main gateway
web page on 127.0.0.1. If you recently upgraded to 5084 from an earlier
version you will probably need to reseed your node in order to get

I think so - so ZoneAlarm is reporting that all of these applications are
trying to access port on 127.0.0.1

What is by the way?

It is almost always perfectly safe for software to connect to ports on ip
127.0.0.1. A lot of software services are listening on specific ports
and one way for applications running on the same computer to communicate
with each other is to create connections to 127.0.0.1:SOME PORT

Perhaps you changed your Zone Alarm settings when you installed Freenet,
and now it is simply reporting more connections than it used to? I think
the default settings for Zone Alarm do not bother reporting connections to
127.0.0.1 as that simply means applications on your PC are communicating
with each other, and it's usually perfectly safe.

Re: [freenet-support] local host

2004-06-24 Thread Dave
Yeah, I'd realised that if you could provide a list of all the
different ports that would be helpful (or is there just too many?). The
reason is, the actual port number identifies which applications are
communicating (or trying to communicate) with each other. For example,
email always uses one specific port number, ftp always uses a different
specific port number, etc... that's why I wanted to know what the port
numbers are ...

You mean, like Freemail?

Alternatively, the freesite author could just advertise a publickey and

An inbound connection attempt is when a node contacts your node. An
outbound connection attempt is when your node contacts another node.
In both cases, after a successful connection, requests can be made, either
by your node or by the other node.

So for example, an inbound requests implies a connection between your node
and the other node, but doesn't imply which way that connection was set up -
your node could contact another node, and then after successful connection
the other node could make a request to your node: that would be one
OUTBOUND connection and one INBOUND request. Similarly, a node could
contact your node, and then make a request: that would be one INBOUND
connection and one INBOUND request. Similarly for outbound requests, where
your node initiates a request to a connected node.

One connection persists for as many requests are made to/from the connected
node - so one connection (inbound OR outbound) can have many inbound and
outbound requests.

hope that helps...

Re: [freenet-support] RE: trouble getting any information

2004-07-03 Thread Dave
freenet.exe appears on the process list, but this is just the systray app -
to kill the freenet node process you would need to kill the javaw.exe
process which spawns it (which shows up in the process list as just
javaw.exe). Having said that, I can't remember what happens if you kill
javaw.exe but not freenet.exe - i believe freenet.exe pops up a flashing
exclamation mark and says Freenet Is Having Problems (which I guess is
true).

You shouldn't need to kill freenet.exe, ever, as essentially it's doing very
little indeed. Even the logfile viewer bugs have disappeared :-)

FWIW I've also seen v. high cpu usage if i remove my internet connection -
the problem seems to get worse the longer the internet connection is
unavailable, which doesn't seem healthy. I get lots of "AARGH! Couldn't
send some kind of backoff message" logs in my logfile, sorry I can't
remember the exact text but I'm sure the java dev knows what I mean here...

Re: [freenet-support] Help required - nothing happening

2004-07-05 Thread dave
Try right-clicking the rabbit icon in the corner, selecting "Configure",
and seeing what it says in the 'address' and 'port' fields. If either of
them are empty, or just incorrect, you will need to set them. Port can
be anything you like, as long as it is not empty. Address needs to be
the publicly-visible internet address of your PC (e.g. the address I
would type into a 'ping' command to get your PC to talk to mine).

2004-08-16 Thread dave
Even the error message tells you what to do:

> $ tar xfz freenet-latest.tgz
> $ cd freenet
> $ sh start-freenet.sh"

in your case, since you 'unzipped' the tar to your Applications/Utilities
folder, you'll need to "cd Applications/Utilities" instead (or whatever
the path to your Applications/Utilities folder is ... I would imagine
you will find it easier to just follow the above instructions so that
everything goes smoothly)

If you do the above it should all be pretty simple. Also are you
definitely running SUN JRE (you only say the version number below, not
actually who made the JRE you're using...)

No-one seems to have mentioned that your freenet.ini file looks like it is
full of junk. What is all this "=3D" crap? Try deleting the freenet.ini
file and recreating it. Freenet really doesn't like corrupted ini files.

Re: [freenet-support] Windows and JRE 1.5

2004-10-22 Thread Dave Hooper

webinstall.exe only accepts 1.4.x
JRE.  Maybe that should be changed but, until it is, you won't be able to
install freenet that way.
Of course, you could just hack your
registry and it will just work:

After installing JRE 1.5 (or whatever
JRE you want to use) create this key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\JavaSoft\Java Runtime
Environment\1.4

and copy everything from
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\JavaSoft\Java Runtime
Environment\1.5.1_5   (or whatever it's called)
into ...\1.4 also.

That will trick the installer into
thinking the JRE is a 1.4 JRE.

Alternatively somebody could fix the
installer.  I don't think there are any significant reasons why you can't
just install a 1.4 JRE in the first place...

  Hi!Just tried to install Freenet 5090 (http://freenetproject.org/snapshots/freenet-webinstall.exe)
on Windows XP... with the latest JRE 1.5.0 installed. Unfortunately, the
freenet installer then complains that it can't find a suitable JRE to run
with.Of course, I don't want to also install the 1.4.1 JRE... I want
to stay with 1.5.0 or better.Regards,Gilles.

Re: [freenet-support] Startup question

2005-02-28 Thread Dave Hooper
The automatic startup is just a property of Windows. If you don't want
something to run automatically, just delete the startup shortcut (it's on
your Program Files menu off the Windows menu start button ...). It's not a
proprietary technology, it's just a link, and it's the same for every other
application in Windows, for every version of Windows. This is THE most
obvious solution, and it is surprising you didn't try this yet.

Alternatively, when you installed Freenet, if you don't tick the "Create
shortcuts" box on the installer then the installer won't create the startup
shortcuts... If you leave that box ticked, then the Freenet installer will
create shortcuts which cause it to run automatically...

Transient, on the other hand, is NOTHING to do with automatic startup. If
you want to know what transient means, try asking in the freenet-dev mailing
list. Otherwise, just ignore that and leave it alone.

Subject: [freenet-support] Startup question

It appears that Freenet wants to modify the startup section of my Windows
config so that it fires up automatically at a reboot. I don't care for
this. I want to be able to launch it manually. I hate things starting
automatically. Is there any way to change this? I tell Spy Sweeper to
remove that, but it comes back almost immediately, even if the Freenet
process isn't running.

I thought maybe the grayed-out option to set the node to transient would
be what controls that, but when I check the option on the Serious Geeks
tab to allow me to change those options on the main page, it says it needs
to restart the node for changes to take effect. When the node restarts,
those options are still grayed out, and the checkbox on the Serious Geeks
tab is un-checked again.

I also tried looking through Freenet.ini for anything that might apply to
the auto-startup, but I didn't find anything about "startup" or
"transient" anywhere in the ini file.

So, since none of the obvious solutions are working, here I am. Anybody
know how to do this?

Thanks in advance,
Don

Re: [freenet-support] Getting started question...

2005-02-28 Thread Dave Hooper
Freenet doesn't spider stuff. Your freenet node will cache sites visited
by you, and also cache requests made by neighbouring nodes (i.e. stuff
requested by *other people*). If none of your neighbouring nodes are
forwarding requests to your node, and you don't visit any sites, then
Freenet will be idle. It doesn't automatically spider, but maybe it
should, it would be pretty cool

After initially setting up Freenet, (I set it to announce in the config)
will it only download and cache sites I try to visit, or if I leave it
running, will it just start to spider stuff automatically up to my store's
set MB limit?

[freenet-support] "Internal error" - help

2010-06-22 Thread Dave D

Hi there,
I have the same problem as described here:
https://freenetproject.org/view.php?id=2949

The Download page will not load, spits out a "Internal error Return to queue
page." message.

Is there a way to rectify the problem without losing all the download keys?

thanks
Dave

[freenet-support] Freenet 0.7 Issue

2012-07-25 Thread Dave Riley

I use an Intel iMac running
10.6.8. I used freenet.jnlp,
then new_installer_offline_1404.jar to Install the Freenet
directory onto a 3GB TrueCrypt volume, and the tray into /Applications
-- this configuration worked fine in an iMac PPC running Leopard (in
fact, I later deleted the tray; I started / stopped Freenet via the
Terminal.).When I tried to use the Wizard (both times)I received this page after the "Data

[freenet-support] PLEASE HELP FREENET ISSUES

2015-05-16 Thread Dave Larsen
PLEASE HELP FREENET ISSUES
i opened this account to seek help with apparently, EVERY aspect of FREENET.
!ST off, why is there no easy to reach REAL, useful, help and
support for CORRECTLY setting up, and CORRECTLY configuring, for maximum
preformance,and useability OF FREENET

2ND, im browsing with 40-60 peers accessing my FREENET node, but all of a
sudden, i get a screen saying FREENET is startingup or shutting down, when
i didnt do anything to stop it, if it was started, it shouldnt stop unless
I,(ME) stops it,
i have it set up to start at my computers startup, so theres no reason for
it to startup again unless, I,(ME), stops it.

3RD, when i can stay "on" long enough to dl a file, i generally get an
error of some kind, saying either; certain files are corrupted, to delete
them /or save and restore them, or, i get internal java lang heapspace
error/ but the worst one is, i have a file complete but i get a ;
"java.io.EOFException", for 99% of what i have "successfully downloaded" ,
not too successful, huh, All of what i have tried to dl has been less than
1.16 gib, tried fetching them every way possible but i almost always get
the above issues.

4TH, i am doing this on brand new, 500gb 7200 rpm hdd, 4 g ram, 60mbps up,
and download wifi speed, (my computer reads 72mbps for that), freenet
detects 59mbps for my up and dl speeds, no data limit, no bandwidth limit,
i have dedicated 100 gib of space for the datastore, and 20gb each, for the
3 other stores, i have my ram cache, (instead of the 43mib it wants to give
me), i set it up to 240 mib. i have my os, FREENET, java, 7zip, chrome,
adobe flash player and vlc player, i also have 1 3rd party system cleaning
program and one ram boost program. my os and all its files are on a
partition with mozilla, and the booster and cleaner, with 226 of 248 gb
freespace, the rest is on its own partition with 98 of 217 gb freespace, so
i should, by rights, have plenty of space and speed for this program i have
also done the things to speed up and hold mem longer and this and that for
mozilla firefox but nothing worksive tuned my pc for best preformance i
disk clean virus check and defrag on a semi-regular basis

i can almost always get to where i want to go, but when i start trying to
dl stuff, all hell breaks loose, ive been trying this for a month now and i
may have successfully downloaded 3-4 working files, but with all the crap
that keeps hapening, i loose it, please help, even if this isnt the right
page for help,

i really like where i can go here in the FREENET, and would like to become
a valued participant, maybe even a donor, but, if it dont work, im not
going to waste my time and money, ive already put in 200 hours of pretty
much unsuccessful effort, and maybe, if im lucky, 10-15 successful hours
in, please even if this is not the right place, if you can, forward this to
someone that can help, im giving my permission to do so, or point me in the
right direction for REAL HELP AND SUPPORT FOR FREENET, google is removing
info from the web to assist with freenet, i couldnt find any useful help on
tor either, if therer is info out there its either old or removed, crossed
off on google, hopefully, its worth saying this , but i doubt it,cuz i
havent had any luck finding real help yet, but im going to say, thank you
in advance for taking the time to read this and for any future associations

 sincerely
thisguy0417

this second part i was upset it looks like im yelling because until now all
the places they told me to try were dead ends i singed up with your mailing
list but never got anything back until today i do say stupid things when
im upset and i apologize for my stupidity , ive been having issues with it
since the 1st time i downloaded it,and have been fruitlessly seeking help,
i just want this to work right i know its slow im not looking to speed up
my setup of freenet, i just want to be able to keep it running without
crashing out every other 10 or 15 mins and not get all the errors i get all
the time and the random shutdownsand startups, sometimes ill click on a tab
,changes to that tab, then its a page that says freenet is starting up, i
have it set to start at my computers startup so why does this happen or the
random shutdowns, when i start it it should stay running until i stop
it,even if there are no nodes connected, i gave all the details i could in
the above the only reason i sent the bottom one, is because when im upset i
also come up with some good ideas and thrers a real good one down there
again i apologize for my upset stupidity but please read on

way ive seen the difference just crashing and java errors please if you can
look at my other emails and instead of having me go with default please i

by the way one guy asked for my logs so i sent him that plus i think it
was the same guy i sent all my settings and system info to, but i got a
msg saying that email was too big and was awaiting moderation i had no idea
there was a size limit to an email , how would freenet work without the
wrapper the thought of that confuses me but ok, please help, i really
would like to enjoy it instead of trying to another thing that confuses me
is how would anyone know what to do with the advanced settings, if theyre
something that shouldnt be messed with, maybe they shouldnt be there, or
as i suggested maybe you could have some kind of, as i said, beginner to
pro advanced configuration guide along with the program when its
downloaded so everyone can enjoy the innerinternet instead of trying
to, im done jabbering just need help i want it to work good

that does this is freenet, i looked at my ram its at 68% just started not
downloading anything, ive got the wrapper set at 256 max memory but it
still goes way above that, is there any other way(s) to control how much
memory(ram) freenet or java uses, i cant run 24/7 cuz, and again only when
freenet itms running my ram climbs to the roof my pc slows down sometimes

[freenet-support] Freenet memory useage

2015-07-20 Thread Dave Larsen
If I set my wrapper to 1g, it would prob use 100%of my ram. I've got it set
at 256 cuz at 512, it would almost max out my memory, 4gs, I don't have any
plugins loaded it works fine but just uses so much ram. Is there ANY other
way to reduce memory usage from freenet. Its getting to be more of a pain
in the butt than its worth. The asston is the way I'm describing the amount
of ram freenet uses its crazy how much ram this uses can't run anything
else when freenet is a running or my PC locks up on me and I gotta manually
restart, so far with this new update/upgrade, I haven't lost anything when
the freeze up occurs, but I'm limited to freenet surfing which is more like
watching paint dry lol, normally I watch movies or TV shows but I've
learned that when freenet is running I can't do that I don't have the ram ,
my CPU is fine just an asston of ram use from freenet if I don't have
freenet running no ram issues please help

your freenet default I'm no expert but it worked for me, I'm guessing that
lucario moore didn't uninstall ie prob just turned off in windows programs

Re: [freenet-support] Freenet memory useage

2015-08-10 Thread Dave Larsen
I don't know how to get Linux I tried all day today every site I tried to
dl something from says windows cannot open this file type or there is no
file type that is supported something like that tried direct downloads
everything the same didn't work so OK new info I have here I sent the
next except already but I figured I would add it here too to go along with
the individual that said I should get Linux, here it goes;
Sorry i don't know how to start a new msg but I changed os to
Linux but I really don't know what I'm doing, I would like to put freenet
on my external hdd but it doesn't give me the option that I understand,

I do please help new to Linux but figuring it out slowly thank you
Java generally uses 2x the memory you tell it, it is the nature of its
memory
design. So if you have 1g to spare, give it 512 and it shoudl use 1 gig. It
is
not random how much it will max at, it is 2x.

If your computer is able to lock up because of Java, then that is a flaw of
your operating system or hardware. It is technically impossible for a java
program to do that. That is the design of java. It cannot be Freenet's
fault,
as Java is guaranteed to prevent it. The problem is your operating system.
Switch to Linux and you won't have any of these problems. Windows/OSX =
Microsoft/Apple = American Corporation = NSA. There really is no point in
using Freenet on Winblows. You might as well use it on the front steps of
their office on a computer you borrow from them. The effort of learning
Linux
will be worth it. If you are already using linux, then it is guaranteed that
you have bad hardware and need to replace your computer.

Sv.

seems no matter where I go o can't find the info I need, I'm not a computer
geek if these companies or whatever want us to use their products, they
should have some kind of open q and a, why does one have to create an
account somewhere to ask questions, even for here, had to sign up to become
a member to get q and a, there should be fields for questions then if one
is serious have them enter their email Addy for a reply, anyway no matter
where I've looked online I can't find anything about setting up a USB hdd
in Linux maybe you have links or more information that will help but I do
