Bad Behavior SM 2.11 on Win7 64

My XP machine is breaking up so got a new one with Win7, 64 bit.. SM 2.014 froze up constantly after opening. Installed SM 2.11 and it does the same. About half the time it just greys out and stops responding. Often when it is finally closed it leaves the program running in task manager so
