Grrr hit the send key before i was done. My biggest concern however, i had
a long chat with ai2 IN yesterday is people who would be coming over from
we for office like me. Who bought voices. Yes, i know fusion comes with
vocalizer expressive and neospeech voices. I bought classic english
voices
for we for office for vocalizer jill nuance got rid of her when they came
out with expressive. I would really like to be able to use the voices i
bought for we for office with fusion. Not to mention people who bought
eloquence and dectalk for we for office. Yes, i know you can buy sapi5
eloquence now but it's double what ai2 charges. If fusion is basically
using we as the screen reader anyway, i don't think it's too much to ask
to
be able to use the voices we bought.

Hi Louis:

They have added a feature in Window-eyes 9.1 which allows you to press
control-alt-w and Window-eyes will shut down and then start up again.

some time for things to take effect, and hopefully hearing the
descending harp stroke sound, then you do the Ctrl-Alt-W thing. In my
experience, though, if you don't hear the descending harp sound, the
Ctrl-Alt-W wont work, either. Fortunately, the pressing of the
powerbutton briefly always does work, even to briefly restoring speech
before it insists on shutting the computer down. Wish there were some
way to halt the powerbutton shut-down at that point.

I have no doubt that it is a Windows Explorer issue. With Windows 10, it

Hello Everyone

recently, I had an RNIB tech volunteer at my home. He kept commenting

speech loss. He mentioned this four or five times in half an hour and

I have also lost speech with Ie 11 and very recently, I have returned
to the computer to find that speech is no longer working even though I
haven't used the computer for a couple of hours. Sleep mode is turned
off along with any other settings which might cause the machine to be
unable to respond as soon as I touch the keyboard.

Probably none of this will be of any help in identifying the problem
but speech loss seems to be getting more and more frequent.

I am using Win7 64 home premium with WE 9.2.

Are you able to configure your anivirus software to exclude
the entire Window-Eyes program folder?
Perhaps this might solve the problem.

The docs for Window-eyes 9.3.1 state that Insert w has been defined as a
hot key which tells the internet network connectivity status. On my
Windows 10 desktop, pressing insert w causes a message to be spoken
"winamp cannot be found." So I am assuming that somewhere along the
way, Insert w was defined as a short cut to the Winamp player. If this
be the case, how do I undefined it so that it will in fact read the
internet network connectivity?

Re: Window Eyes and ZoomText or Fusion?

2015-12-18 Thread Singing Sparrow via Talk

will neo speech be coming to window eyes?

On 12/18/2015 1:03 PM, Jeremy Curry via Talk wrote:

Hi Reeva,

I am catching up on some of my email today and I wanted to respond to your question about
older synthesizers and ZoomText Fusion. There are several reasons that we did not
include older synthesizers, such as DecTalk Access32. However, at the top of the list is
that many of the older synthesizers do not allow for speaking and highlighting of text
simultaneously. You noted that the price was worth it for "speech and tracking
focus alone." This was one of the main feature requests we heard for ZoomText
Fusion. That is, users wanted to see everything that they hear. If we were to include
older synthesizers, the user experience would vary from synthesizer to synthesizer, and
most users would think that Fusion would not work when, in reality, it is because the
synthesizers are old and no longer being developed. Thus, we made the decision to
include the latest synthesizers that do support this technology. Additionally, a very
high percentage of ZoomText Fusion users want a

 h

uman-sounding synthesizer. Thus, if we included DecTalk or Eloquence, there
are not only very few users who want it, but it would not work with tracking
focus, and the cost of the product would likely need to be higher. A similar
issue exists with the older Vocalizer (that is, NON-expressive) voices. The
tracking would not work and the price of the product would likely need to be
higher. This would give the impression that ZoomText Fusion did not work as
advertised and raise the cost at the same time. I hope this helps clarify why
we selected to include Neospeech and Vocalizer Expressive, as these
synthesizers are able to track everything that is spoken. In fact, we did a
ton of work under the hood to ensure that this works extremely well with these
synthesizers and ZoomText Fusion.

I hope you are enjoying the ZoomText Fusion trial!

What are some of the features you like best about it?

Merry Christmas!

I have been using we and zt together for the past year and a half. I'm avout 2
and a half weeks into my fusion trial and i'm making plans to pay the $400 to
upgrade. It's basically we and zt finally working good together. It's worth it
just for speech and focus actually tracking alone.
Keep in mind this is new software the downsides i'm about to list may change with updates. The biggest one in my opinion is voices if you are a dectalk or eloquence fan you'll have to get those voices from a 3rd party as they do not come with fusion and the versions on the website for sale for we for office will not work with fusion. If like me you bought/want vocalizer classic voices like jill as i bought her for we for office at this time you're outta luck. You get vocalizer expressive tom, ava, samantha and allison and neospeech kate and paul. Ai2 people if y'all read this PLEASE PLEASE make the we for office voices available for purchase on the gw site work with fusion. I know some of this is up to the tts company that licenses the voices to y'all but y'all are gonna have people like me coming over from using we and zt as seperate products together who are gonna want dectalk and eloquence or in my case i bought vocalizer classic for jill for we for office nuance got

ri

d of her when they came out with vocalizer expressive. I don't think it's too
much to ask for people who bought voices for we for office or people coming
over from the retail version of we to get to use the voices we paid for already
 with fusion.
At this time the chrome web browser is not supported by fusion. The last
downside is if you use the old zt keyboard, the one with the circle buttons on
top. You're gonna have to buy the new zt keyboard the old version does not
work with fusion. I highly suggest downloading the 60 day trial to see if you
like it. It's easy to get used to as there's a we keybord layout and you can
use all the apps from app central.

Hi,
I am back to Windows 7 Pro.
I couldn’t use my Deck-talk Express with Windows 10 and I had trouble burning
DVDDs.
Windows 10 update kept eracing my Deck-talk driver.
I also had to get a new printer, because the old one wasn’t compatible with
Windows 10.
I reinstalled Windows 7 Pro with my disk.
Just wanted to let you all know.

Re: Win 10; control alt up arrow

2016-01-10 Thread Singing Sparrow via Talk
you could try doing control alt right arrow or left arrow to correct the
problem , it depends on how far the screen rotated.

On 1/10/2016 3:56 PM, Martha Reaney via Talk wrote:

My sighted friend was here yesterday. He told me that my screen had rotated. I

I also tried using the bypass hotkey, then, control + alt + uparrow. Still no
change in the screen rotation.

I will get sighted assistance to help me correct the rotation from within Intel
graphics and also to disable the Intel graphics screen rotation hotkeys.

Just wondering why the control + alt + up arrow did not rotate the screen back
to normal orientation. Sadly, I do not know when the screen rotation happened
(what program was open, etc.)

Has anyone else had this behavior with Windows 10 64 bit, WE 9.3.1 and Intel

My Take On things.

2016-06-14 Thread Singing Sparrow via Talk
First of all I am not sure where the idea of SMA for Window Eyes is
cheaper than the SMA for JAWS. I had a choice of either paying fifty
dollars for the newest Window Eyes of buying an SMA for two hundred
dollars and getting the last update free. Window Eyes SMA is good for
two versions. JAWS SMA for two versions is one hundred eighty dollars if
you use citrix metaframe or one hundred twenty dollars for Home Version
of JAWS which is good for two upgrades. Freedom Scientific has never
said you pay for an upgrade between major versions or buy an SMA. An
SMA for window eyes is two hundred dollars for two upgrades.

Second of all Window Eyes has gotten rid of what I thought two of the
best features were. The first is the creation of set files and the
second is to be able to use the Window Eyes mouse more proficiently.

Third JAWS runs more smoothly than does Window Eyes at this point. It
can also start up in Windows 7 without messing up the video display and
making the screen unseeable.

Fourth while there are still issues with Window Eyes crashing Explorer
and other programs JAWS does not seem to have that issue.

Fifth I have been a Window Eyes user for better than ten years. I
switched to it from JAWS and at that time was very pleased but since
version 9 there seems to be more problems that do not get fixed. To
avoid dealing with the crashes I did renew my JAWS to current.

Sixth As to tech support most of the time lately you get the same from
either company. "It is your computer" Ok so sometimes that could be true
but it is also an easy out.

Seventh It is fine to support a company but one also needs to be honest
about things. Right now my number one recommendation would be NVDA. No
screen reader will ever be perfect but when one pays for an SMA one
should be able to expect improvements that can be noticed.

I can understand why the deal was made. It is indeed about profit for
your products but maybe Window Eyes should never have had a free
version. Maybe we should have seen at that time there would be other
major changes that we might not like.

Hopefully both programs will be available so that a person can choose
which problems they wish to deal with. So yes JAWS does have some issues
but all screen readers always will

Hi Nick: That is true indeed.
There are some Internet and other things WindowEyes handles better
than the other readers, not many but some.
The point for me is that no matter who is creating software it should
flat out work properly or it is not ready for prime time production.
With a screen reader that is almost impossible since they have to deal
with other peoples work, people who create the programs the screen
reader is trying to read and navigate.
This, however, is no excuse but a valid reason for some problems that
a screen reader with a limited staff just wont be able to address for
every individual client and every individual third party program.
That is why management is so important, that is it has to Organize,
prioritize and Implement those features deemed most important to
their clients.
For a screen reader company I would guess it is to get every window in
the Windows Operating System working very, very well, then the
Internet and then other third party applications like Office and only
then develop for other third party applications.
I would stress the entire Microsoft Platform, all programs Microsoft
puts out as my first priority with an eye twoard a few other very
popular programs but then I am not the top dog anyplace nor would I
want to be - allot of stress indeed.
But there is money in making professional tools and popular programs
accessible and before you ever touch a keyboard as a developer you do
a cost / benefit analysis of the project even if just an informal
discussion and Microsoft and a few non Microsoft programs are widely
used in business, industry and Finance and that is where the bulk of
my work would be targeted since Government and Industry will pay for
the screen reader that works the best with packages their employees
use and greenies are, despite some people, very very important to the
survival of any company.

No company, no screen reader.
I would also let my client base know what is on the table for review
like in an agile project management senario so they get an idea of
what is high priority and what is low priority to have an open
discussion of what and why some things may, or not, get addressed in
the near to intermediate future - at least I would try that out to
help get more input of real value from my client base if I were a
small development team with limited resources or I think I would try
it - perhaps not just never been there done that.
Anyway, you are correct but for the fact that WE does not work
flawlesly with the Windows10 operating system in my opinion and that
in my case would be job1 with the internet job2 which also seems to
need some work.

never have this happen with jaws or nvda. nothing happens like this the

On 2/18/2016 3:04 AM, Rick Thomas via Talk wrote:

Reading the postings it seems that this problem is not unique to WindowEyes
but is perhaps worse in WindowEyes.
There are indications that it happens most often in Internet Explorer or, at
least, is most identifyable in InternetExplorer with the dialog that
InternetExplorer says the program is not responding (same dialog when JAWS
locked up in Internet Explorer) but WindowEyes will not usually notify you
the problem has occurred and just locks up - this should be fixed by
AISquared so we can be notified and close the offending program.
Note that it is likely not Internet Explorer lockinng up but some program
being called or used by Internet Explorer like one that might display an ad
or flash or something because closing the program that is not responding
does not close Internet Explorer but after closing the program not
responding you are still in Internet Explorer and can continue working in
that program.
Some have noticed better results when not using background processes like
the automagic update of synced programs like cloud related programs, note
that OneNote and other things that come with our Operating Systems also can
be using these types of features by default.
Also, there allot of Live Tiles that will access the internet automagically
and send or gather information from external online web pages and, or, web
services which is akin to using a cloud service in that both have to access
something on the internet and thus prone to internet transmission and many
other problems.
Even programs that you would think wouldn't access the internet from your
desktop might be doing something online behind the scenes so this is one
possible avenue but tonarrow things down we can do a few things.
First, you folks who use Mazilla and Chrome for your browsers, have you
noticed any lockups at all using WindowEyes?
Second, the next time I get a Internet Explorer lockup I will try and hit
the Debug button instead of the close button to see what I can find out
about the error like what program(s) are related to it if the error will
give me that much detail.
I forget the WindowEyes hot key to copy a MessageBox which is usually not
able to be read with the normal arrow keys, anyone remember it off the top
of your head?

I'm not at all sure this is a WE problem. After years of downloading

extract, edit the path to the cartridge and hit the 'Extract' button.
The computer goes silent for about 20 to 30 seconds and then I'm
bounced to the Task Bar. The folder for the book is created but the
folder is empty and I can't alt-tab to the cartridge. In the past few
days, I have done only two things with the computer. One, I installed
3 optional updates from Windows Update. Two, I tried the OCR feature
of Virtual View for the ffist time. I enabled the 'Windows TIF
Ifilter before trying Virtual View. I unchecked the Windows TIF
Ifilter after having the problem extracting books. I have not
uninstalled the latest updates as yet but I will if recommended to do so.

I am running Windows 7 HP, WE 9.4 on an Acer laptop 64-bit with 3 gigs

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Re: Thunderbird Focus issues

2016-05-25 Thread Singing Sparrow via Talk

Ok, when using nvda, and Jaws they work just fine with thunderbird.

Window eyes is the problem the thunderbird set files aren't even loaded
you have to manually unload and thenload them before they are active.

But that does not fix the back space issue when ereasing what you have
written.

I Know several people who are strong window eyes users that switched
either to nvda or jaws.

Because of thunderbird issues, and browse mode issues.

Ihave been a window eyes user for more then ten years but as of late use
window eyes very seldomly.

Hi Jed,
Well, like you, I do experience many problems with TB. In fact, not
sure why so many think it is so great, I don't but I am using it. I
also think that there are a few problems with WE and focus both with
TB and other programs. One thing I have noticed is that often, WE
does not have the proper set file loaded. Just before writing this
note, I was in TB with the mailbox list opened and I went to the WE
control panel only to find that the active set file was Wineyes.set.
I have witnessed this behavior in other situations including when I
write a reply to an email. It is not consistent. I just interrupted
my composing to see if I could use arrow and numpad keys. The left
arrow and right arrow keys do move but not the up and down arrows.
Interestingly enough, the numpad keys do nothing except giving the
frustyrating ding. However, If I use the shift with numpad keys they
seem to work properly and text is either selected or deselected.
I am currently running the latest version of TB and WE on a new
Toshiba Satellite laptop. I have been wondering if there is some
peculiarity with the system settings for the keyboard. I have found a
setting that says "use the numpad keys to move the mouse". I did
change this setting but can't figure out what changes occurred.
Unlike my previous laptop, this new one has the numpad on the keyboard
whereas before, I used and external numpad. In that situation, I was
able to use the keys on the external numpad to move around on the
desktop but with the new machine, I cannot. However, if I hold down
the shift key, then the numpad keys do allow the reading of items on
the desktop and I can move up and down as well as left to right. So,
I think there is something amiss. Another reason I think there are
focus problems with WE is that often WE will speak things from recent
past, that is, it will speak either something from a previous web page
or from another message. So, I continue to have the same frustrations.

have to keep re-focusing. Is anyone else having this problem? This is
getting very old, and i'm pretty tired of it. It's quite frankly
unacceptable While writing this message, i just tried going left and
right with the arrow keys, and it literally says nothing. Any ideas?

I mean, come on; I mean with the way that window eyes and jaws are competing

very sad that things have come to this parting of the markets i mean that
since VFO has both jaws, window eyes, magic and zoomtext the markets aren't

worry about if your windows computer goes by the way side that you have to
re-register your copy of windows

reader "voiceover" is totally built into the OS.

that makes a mac a very viable option and yes they are mor expensive then a

mac as well, so you do have the best of both worlds.

Hi Sky and List

I think it is beyond the point of saving Window-Eyes.

I think what folks on this list need to do now is to contact VFO and push
for a reasonable price to transition from Window-Eyes to jaws. The number
of SMAs should be considered so perhaps those with SMAs would be given jaws
SMAs or the money paid toward their SMAs would be put toward the cost of
jaws. Everyone should be given the convention price for jaws.

Just a thought,

Brenda

Hello Kevin and Vaughn. Here are my thoughts on this. Had the blind

have gotten extinct and this would not have happened. Below, I'm
going to forward you guys some emails from a friend of mine who is on
this list, and I support him 100 percent!

Email 1:

Hi Sky,

Sadly that has been the way it has been since the start. As you said,

had the rnib, cnib, american league for th blind and so on favoured
window-eyes or even given it a chance. It would not be almost extinct
at this moment in time. It does make me angry. These people are
somehow escaping accountability for their acdtions. The entire system
has been geared towards Jaws continually. Every other screen reader
has become second rate because of the power wielded withing the blind
community. It's alright us saying this but actually proving it is
another matter. If it could be proved and despite all the negativity,
it could. Then what could happen? Telling the world about how a
ruthless power hungry organisation set out to control the world of the
blind with a screen reader? If people would back us up and not just
say that is what happened without saying I can prove it. To be able to
prove it would be the icing on the cake. It would show the rotten,
evil people at jaws who abused their power and in a way forced vendors
to favour jaws above other screen readers. If enough people were
prepared to come out and back us up we would have enough to at least make

those responcible for the blind to wake up and accept responcibility.

I doubt that will ever happen as proving what we know to be true would

be difficult. Not impossible. We do have what is called a Mergers and
nonopoly commission but it too is being seen as a dog with no teeth.
Although it blocked a merger a few days ago between the two major
money markets, one in London and the other in @Germany from combining.
They have some power but it is only token gesture.

There is a proposed merger between Rupert Murdoch and Sky tv. He will

be allowed to buy it despite criticism from other media cdompanies. He
owns the majority of the world's media and his control is beyond
anything that the world has seen before. There isn't much he doesn't
own and his political power is immeanse. That is the exact same as
jaws, the rnib, cnib and other organisations for the blind.

If it could be possible for witnesses to come forward and confirm what

we are saying. That would be at least a start. We could get up a
petition expressing our opinion of the bullying from these so called
institutions for the blind. bringing them to account. It may not do
very much but at least it would rock the boat for a short time and
always be part of the history of blind peoples lives in a corrupt and

overbearing system.

really pissed off at VFO and with the presenters at the tech podcast.
~Why aren't they kicking up hell? Probably because they are jaws
users. I got that impression just by their attitude. Zoom text and
fusion was an AI squared and window-eyes conception. Not a VFO idea. I
did say that's why they bought out ai squared and it seems I was
right. They are going to unceremoniously dump window-eyes. No new
updadtes, no upgrades, nothing, no development. The list really has to
do something at this stage. We really have to get together and make
sure VFO are aware of our feelings. Everyone who has paid for sma's
are now entitled to a full refund, no questions asked. No development
means no upgrades, no upgrades equals no need for sma's. No sma's means

they are stealing our money under false pretences.

This time things have gone too far.

I feel that the key point as this relates to Window-eyes is missed:
if you
don't pay - you can presume to not get. The Window-Eyes for Office
deal has
meant that there is no cash to fix long standing problems or to
develop new

features.

People who make a business choice to develop tools which make our lives
better do also have to live. Although I will always remain unhappy with
current developments, the software engineers who continue to develop
screen

readers are tradable - they can sell their skills to someone else.

I do believe that the virtual monopoly on screen readers especially for
those who are employed is a bad thng. But - it is what we have, and it
might be that there is now a huge barrier which prevents others from
offering choice to consumers.
Tough as it is: we have to make spending choices, and certainly, if
financial assistance is there - take it. But: someone produces and
sells,

someone else buys and consumes.

Re: makeing the switch

2017-04-04 Thread Singing Sparrow via Talk

To be honest with you I feel the same way.

I have been a loyal jaws, and window eyes user for over a decade and I
am finding that Voiceover handels web content better then the windows
screen readers now a days.

Also the cost of the screen reader in a mac is free and is also
constantly updated and when a new Mac OS comes out you don't have to pay
for the upgrades for the screen reader.

On 4/4/2017 5:04 AM, Tony C via Talk wrote:

Well, I guess I’ve fought it for as long as I can. I’ve refused for several
years to consider switching to a Mac, but with the apparent demise of Window
Eyes, and Jaws sucking as it always has, I’m going to be making the switch.
I’ve been a loyal WE user since 2004, but it seems that it’s time to teach an
old dog new tricks. lol. I can take my I phone or my I pad mini and have no
problem using programs like Netflix, Slink, and other websites using Voice
Over, that WE and Jaws say hey can’t because the sites aren’t accessible. I
think I’ll keep one of my Windows PC’s with WE on it just so I can look back
and think of all the money I spent just to be left with my thumb up my nose.
When I think of the money I’ve spent maintaining a screen reader, and now the
built in screen reader with the IOS works great with all those websites that
were called by tech support for Jaws and window eyes “inaccessible”.. I know I
may catch some flack for this, but it’s the truth none the less.I guess VFO
thinks they’ve cornered the market on Screen readers, but I refuse to do
business with them, because of who they are and who they are connected with. I
started out with Windows 95 and JFW back in 1995, and I used Jaws up untill
2004 when a friend of mine and myself started building a web site, he was a WE
user and I a Jaws user. I couldn’t do some of the thing with jaws and Freedom
Scientific’s tech support told me it was because the page builder I was usin
was “inaccessible”, but my buddy with Window eyes could do it. I started using
WE to work on the website and as I got used to it I began using is more and
more for other things. I found that WE worked “out of the box” with more
programs than Jaws did. So, in 2004 I became a Window eyes user. now I’m sad to
say that the same type of thing has happened, except this time is between
Window eyes Windows and Voice Over and Mac. I will be buying my first Mac in a
couple of months and telling WE and Windows goodby.

VFO is going to be kissing my rear soon. I'm already making plans to make
the switch to MAC. The Apple/Mac OS is just more stable, and the built in
voice over works with so much more stuff than any of the Windows screen
readers. Places like VFO keep trying to "rape" the blind community, and that
I believe is about to come to an end, just like the NFB's influence on
Washington is about to be curbed. There's a growing number of Blind and VI
people who are contacting ther Rep's and Congresmen and Washington to
denounce the NFB and their ways. Halleua.

Re: gun shy about new laptop

2017-04-12 Thread Singing Sparrow via Talk
depending on what you do you canchange this by holding down the fn key
and pressing the escape key this turns your function keeys back to
regular f1 through 12 no need then for the fn key plus f8 I have a
lenovo laptop and this is what I learned from lenovo .

Hi robin,

When I called Window-eyes Tech support to find out what to avoid with
laptops, I was not warned about the function keys being designated and
the need to press the FN key to overide the default uses. Best buy
didn't tell me this eather until I had already paid for Geek Squad
service/set-up, and my laptop was ready to go home.

fortunately, my laptop does have an application key. Also, my numpad
has an insert key as part of the numpad. the numpad insert key is
very small, but it is there. could you have this key without
realizing it (just a thought)?

I still don't like having to use the FN key when i want to use the
Window-eyes copy & paste key F8 in some programs. It is a nuisance to
use the FN+fF6 key in Thunderbird as if you do it wrong it turns
airplane mode on and I lose my wifi connection. F5 to refresh is the
only other function key I have to look out for, but these are not
Window-eyes command keys. F1 is really tricky because it will mute
speech if the FN key is not pressed. that being said, it is sometimes
convenient to have the system function keys for things like volume and
close down.

I haven't used the laptop layout, but could that be a solution for now?

My Lenovo laptop cost $350 at Best Buy. It was discontinued shortly
after that, but it has what I need. Lenovo could be an option for you.

The only thing I like about laptops is that if the power goes out the
computer doesn't shut down. My husband was able to revive my Win7
desktop, and I will use my Win7 desktop until it really dies and
forces me to become proficient with Win10 on a laptop, possibly with
the laptop layout for Window-eyes.

sorry for lengthening a short ansre. Just my thoughts on the subject.

because I will use my Win7 desktop until it really dies.

Late last summer I got a new HP laptop. The primary thing that drew

not realize until after I got it home and paid money for a tech to
come help me set it up was two things. First, it does not have the
application key, which I have learned to get around with the Shift
F10 keystroke. The bigger problem was the whole thing we've talked
about with now having to push the FN key in order to get the function
keys to work the way I want. (I had not found someone who was
comfortable going into the bios to help me see about changing this.)
The biggest problem Is that this function key thing also applies to
the Insert key, as it is right next to the F12 key. I've gotten
pretty good at using the caps lock key instead, but this requires
some real finger gymnastics to activate certain Window Eyes command.
Aside from all this, there is also some

we
ird clicking thing that the keyboard occasionally does that is
annoying. All this to say, it's not been a great experience and had I
not invested in paying a tech to set up the computer for me, I
probably would have quickly returned it to Costco for a refund or
exchange.

So, I'm in a situation now where I may be giving this laptop to my
sighted husband and getting a new one, but I'm gun-shy about how not
to repeat this problem in my laptop selection. I am not a heavy
computer user at home, so did not want to spend much money, although
I'm not looking for the cheapest netbook thing either. I mainly
looked at Best Buy and Costco, because I wanted to get my hands on
the keyboard and feel the layout. I like that Costco doubles the
manufacturer's warranty and provides great, free help desk support
for the computers purchased there.

Any advice from those of you having purchased computers lately on how
to navigate this keyboard dilemma, especially if buying one online?
I'd really like to stay in the $500 range, if possible.

Thank you for being a valued member of the GW Micro and Window-Eyes family.
We regret to announce that sales of Window-Eyes have ended in the United States
and Canada. Users outside of the United States and Canada should contact their
local distributor for options. We are committed to our customers and will honor
existing product purchases and software maintenance agreements, and we will
continue to provide technical support to end users that have purchased
Window-Eyes or a support package.

All users who are currently using Window-Eyes can continue to use the software
indefinitely; however, as the Windows(r) operating system and/or applications
change over time, Window-Eyes may not function adequately for your needs.

We understand how important a screen reader is to you and are offering JAWS(r)
for Windows 18 as a replacement. We are committed to providing a smooth
transition and will honor existing Window-Eyes product purchases and software
maintenance agreements (SMA), as follows.
. End users that paid for and are current with Window-Eyes 9.x will be
converted to JAWS 18 at no charge.
. If you are using an earlier version of Window-Eyes, you can purchase an

to placemark within IE, or Edge for that matter, the prospect of
making the permanent switch wouldn't seem so grim.

I copied this from another list.Hi everyone,
Below is an update on screen reader compatibility notice and a
schedule of events regarding Version 1803:
A few weeks ago I sent out a preliminary notice regarding compatible
screen readers with Windows 10 Version 1803. The below notice
replaces the preliminary one and should be considered official
compatibility notice from this forum cluster:
Windows 10 Version 1803 compatible screen readers: any screen reader
supporting Version 1703 or later will work, although you may need to
install releases optimized for 1803. The following are known
compatible screen readers:

• Narrator : yes.
• NonVisual Desktop Access: 2018.1.1 or later.
• JAWS for Windows: 18.0.4350 or later, 2018.1802.78 or later.
• ZoomText: 11.5 or later.
• Any screen reader declaring support for Version 1703 (Creators
Update) or later (except Window-Eyes).
Note: Window-Eyes is no longer supported as a compatible screen
reader from this forum cluster as the product was discontinued.
Also, based on latest information available, the tentative schedule
of events regarding Version 1803 (on this forum cluster) is as follows:
• Around April 3, 2018 or whenever it happens: Version 1803 build
will be sent to release preview Insiders. From that day on, the
entire forum cluster will enter Version 1803 era.

• Around April 10, 2018: Version 1803 makes public debut.
• April 11, 2018 or at most 24 hours after public release: critical
standby begins. This is a 72-hour period where all activity on the
Win10 forum will be suspended except for Version 1803 upgrade
reports and impressions. This is also the period when Microsoft
staff and screen reader vendor reps will get temporary moderator
privileges so they can pass on critical information for screen
reader users (please show them respect during that time).
• Between 1803 release date and 60 days after: countdown for Version
1709 is in effect. During this time cumulative update notices for
both 1709 and 1803 will be sent to the forum cluster.
• June 30, 2018 or end of 60 day countdown, whichever happens
earlier: cumulative update announcements for 1709 will cease. The
next KB alert for 1709 will be on April 2019 once it exits consumer
support.

• December 2018: cumulative update for 1803 will cease.
• October 2019: last KB alert for 1803 as it exits consumer support.
The above schedule is subject to change – depends on when Version
1803 will hit the air.

Cheers,
Joseph

you can write addons for nvda to enhance the functionality of nvda for
winamp and other programs.

Just Curious. Are you in the insider program, or are you starting to

I had to shut down just last Monday, and had no problem with the
initiation of WE when restarting.

Guess I really better get serious about learning NVDA. If it weren't
for having to worry about the purchase of new voices, I would have
dedicated myself to the task a much longer time ago.

And if only either NVDA, or the folks at MS would add a scripting
language so that those who write apps/scripts could get to work on
some improvements to the use of Winamp or at least making it possible
to placemark within IE, or Edge for that matter, the prospect of
making the permanent switch wouldn't seem so grim.
