"To celebrate growing older, I once wrote the 45 lessons life taught
me. It is the most requested column I've ever written.
My odometer rolled over to 90 in August, so here is the column once

1. Life isn't fair, but it's still good.
2. When in doubt, just take the next small step.
3. Life is too short - enjoy it.
4. Your job won't take care of you when you are sick. Your friends
and family will.
5. Pay off your credit cards every month.
6. You don't have to win every argument. Stay true to yourself.
7. Cry with someone. It's more healing than crying alone.
8. It's OK to get angry with God. He can take it.
9. Save for retirement starting with your first paycheck.
10. When it comes to chocolate, resistance is futile.
11. Make peace with your past so it won't screw up the present.
12. It's OK to let your children see you cry.
13. Don't compare your life to others. You have no idea what their
journey is all about.
14. If a relationship has to be a secret, you shouldn't be in it.
15. Everything can change in the blink of an eye, but don't worry,
God never blinks.
16.. Take a deep breath. It calms the mind.
17. Get rid of anything that isn't useful. Clutter weighs you down in
many ways.
18. Whatever doesn't kill you really does make you stronger.
19.. It's never too late to be happy. But it's all up to you and no
one else.
20. When it comes to going after what you love in life, don't take no
for an answer.
21. Burn the candles, use the nice sheets, wear the fancy lingerie.
Don't save it for a special occasion. Today is special.
22. Over prepare, then go with the flow.
23. Be eccentric now. Don't wait for old age to wear purple.
24. The most important sex organ is the brain.
25. No one is in charge of your happiness but you.
26. Frame every so-called disaster with these words 'In five years,
will this matter?'
27. Always choose life.
28. Forgive
29. What other people think of you is none of your business.
30. Time heals almost everything. Give time, time.
31. However good or bad a situation is, it will change.
32. Don't take yourself so seriously. No one else does.
33. Believe in miracles.
34. God loves you because of who God is, not because of anything you
did or didn't do.
35. Don't audit life. Show up and make the most of it now.
36. Growing old beats the alternative of dying young.
37. Your children get only one childhood.
38. All that truly matters in the end is that you loved.
39. Get outside every day. Miracles are waiting everywhere.
40 If we all threw our problems in a pile and saw everyone else's,
we'd grab ours back.
41. Envy is a waste of time. Accept what you already have, not what
you need
42. The best is yet to come...
43. No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up.
44. Yield.
45. Life isn't tied with a bow, but it's still a gift."

The Talk2 List Fw: Looking for potential partners to launch new service

Subject: Looking for potential partners to launch new service

I am developing additional services that allow organizations to provide
customized location information to BlindSquare users. This service is
already being used at the University of Iowa with good success.

Through a simple online interface, organizations can enter GPS coordinates
of a point and a description of that point. BlindSquare can retrieve this
information as soon as it is entered or updated and will read it out to
the

BlindSquare user. The University of Iowa uses the service to notify blind
students of entrances of buildings, steps, or temporary construction work,
when they approach an entrance or an obstacle. If a familiar route is
blocked due to road works, it is also possible to suggest an alternative
route to the user. Organizations can update or add to the information any
time, and BlindSquare will use the new information instantly.

Later on, I plan to extend this service to indoor navigation. Apple's
iBeacons are an excellent tool to mark locations inside of buildings and
to

provide information about them. iBeacons are a good option to use for
indoor navigation, because they are produced for the mainstream market so
they are relatively inexpensive ($20-$30 per unit).
I would like to contact individuals and organizations who might be
interested in providing Customized Location Information to their visitors,
staff, or students. These could be orientation and mobility instructors,
schools and institutions for the blind, universities or colleges that
would

like to make their campus more accessible or museums that are known for
their efforts to be inclusive. The service will be free of charge for
blindness organizations, orientation and mobility instructors, schools and
universities.

I would appreciate your help to find organizations or individuals who
might
be interested in my service. If you have contacts within an organization,
I

would also appreciate if you could introduce me and my project to them, if
you think they might be willing and able to help.
If after filling in this questionnaire, you think of other organizations
later on, please feel free to return to this site and submit their
details.

None of the fields is mandatory, so I do not expect you to enter complete
information about suggested individuals or organizations.
If you agree to use your personal contacts to introduce me and my project
to an organization, please do not contact them yet. I will get back to you
when I am ready to talk with them.
None of the information you submit will be shared with any third party.

Thank you for your help, it is highly appreciated!

The Talk2 List Up! Could be very... Misconstrued:

Men vs. Women, in bed

The battle of the sexes goes to the mattress.
It's men v women. Men sleep. Women
sleep. And there the similarities doze off.
When we're all tucked in at night, the way we
sleep sounds a wake-up call of differences:
positions to pillow counts, bedtimes to bed
making, who's wearing nothing at all and
who's wearing something on their feet.
Sleep together, sleep apart.
Sleep well.

The bed

35 - The number of minutes earlier that UP wearers who sleep with partners
go to bed, compared with UP wearers who sleep alone
97% - The percent of UP wearers who sleep with a pillow under their head
(20% with a pillow in their arms, 18% between their legs, and 10% at their
sides)
81.3% - The percent of women UP wearers who report sleeping on their sides,
as opposed to 55.3% of men

Lay your head to rest

Which side (or back or stomach) are you on? Match your sleep position with
the

firmness of your pillow. Side sleepers should go firm for head and neck
support. Back sleepers do best with medium to firm cushioning. Stomach
sleepers

are softies; a pillow without pushback eases neck strain.*

Subject: Would you sign our petition to encourage Guide Dogs UK to provide a
mechanism to certify owner trained guide dogs?

I very rarely ask anyone to sign an internet petition, so I hope you will
forgive the group email.

as some of you may know and some not, I've been working for the last two
years now with a yellow Labrador called Alice that I trained myself to guide
me after returning my last dog back to Guide Dogs UK because I felt he was
unsafe.

Alice performs all the tasks of a normal guide dog plus several assistance
dog tasks such as finding my keys and phone, handing me objects I drop and
standing over smaller objects such as pound coins or taking me to them.

However, I am unable to get her officially certified because Guide Dogs UK
does not recognise owner trained dogs. This means that I can't fly with
her, and though I have encountered no access problems anywhere yet, I have
no legal access rights under the Equality Act as someone would with an
official guide dog.

This petition is to encourage Guide Dogs UK to think out of the box and look
at providing a mechanism for supporting and recognising owner trained guide
dogs provided they meet a certain standard. This has been done with great
success in the past in other countries such as New Zealand. and there are
currently other charities in the UK who provide help and support for owner
trainers of assistance dogs, but as I have no other disabilities apart from
blindness, they are unable to work with me.

This petition was written by my good friend Lynn Holdsworth who owner
trained a rescue dog Lucy to guide her. She briefly tells her story at the
beginning.

There is no pressure on anyone to sign, and this is the only email I will
send regarding this petition. We realise that maybe nothing will be
achieved in Lucy and Alice's time, but if we are able to plant the seed and
so help other owner trainers in the future, then at least we will have
achieved something.

Please feel free to share with friends. There is space for you to put
comments too if you like.

Subject: The Talk2 List The Italian Funeral Dog

I just got this from my Uncle John.
An Italian man was leaving a convenience store with his espresso when
he

noticed a most unusual Italian funeral procession approaching the nearby
cemetery. A black hearse was followed by a second black hearse about 50
Feet behind the first one. Behind the second hearse was a solitary
Italian man walking a dog on a leash. Behind him, a short distance back,
were about 200 men walking single file.

The man couldn't stand the curiosity. He respectfully approached the
Italian man walking the dog and said:

"I am so sorry for your loss, and this may be a bad time to disturb you,
but I've never seen an Italian funeral like this. Whose funeral is it?"

"My wife's."

''What happened to her?"
"She yelled at me and my dog attacked and killed her."

He inquired further, "But who is in the second hearse?"

The Italian man answered, "My mother-in-law. She was trying to help my
wife when the dog turned on her."

A very poignant and touching moment of Italian brotherhood and silence
passed between the two men.

"Can I borrow the dog?"

The man replied, "Get in line."

iPod Touch for those who are blind or have low vision, permitting easy
navigation and orientation to some of Apple's most popular touch-screen

commonly-found buttons and controls, blind/low vision users can input
information more quickly and efficiently than ever before.
In escence, we provide screen protectors for your device with Braille-style
dots to enable you to type quicker and easier on your device, as for quite
a lot of blind people, typing on a flat surfice is very time-consuming and
annoyingly difficult.

Gen.

Each protector (including shipping) costs £6.50 in the UK, and €9.00 to

a
bit by posting this rather amusing 404 message I just found while

it's still interesting.

It is possible someone here dropped the website and the page you are

The Google Promotion Award Team has discovered a huge number of double

Agreed. This message speaks of childish tantrums. Even the Freedom

even
that. This one's not going to get much more. I thought about it until

A quick note to all of you who have, and those who as of yet have
not signed
the WFA user protest site.

Before I start my message the link right here and now is

Firstly, a note to all of you who have signed, thank you, but I
have

to at
this stage say that it is way too few who have made this effort. We

are

nearing 700, yet for Vodafone to take this seriously we need

thousands.

To date we've not even got close to even the number of users of the
application signing, let alone additional support.

Can I especially ask those of you who either work with or for the
organizations that supposedly represent us as blind folk, yes you
lot, those
of you at the RNIB, CNIB, AFB, NFB, etc, etc, you lot really have
made me
rather upset and irritated.

To date I've posted two messages via each of your web-sites
informing you
all of our protest, has any one of you got back to me to ask for

more

detail, have you mass mailed your members, have you lobbied in our
favour,
have you, no sir. Is this an outrage, is this a complete lack of
competence
when it comes to supporting those who you claim to represent? This
individual thinks so. So if you represent, or have a contact at
your

local
blind organization please forward this message, we, or certainly I,
am very,
very disappointed in you all.

As for those private individuals who have not yet signed, even if
you do not
own Access or a Symbian phone, your name should be on this list,
the

list
says something about who we are and what we stand for as blind
folks, it
says that we will not lay down and be ignored whilst our tools to
freedom
and mobility are stolen from us. It says we have a voice and we are
prepared
to use it when necessary.

This protest is about more than just Wayfinder Access, it is a
symbol, now
please, I urge you all, we need this link spreading, we need it
sharing,
Face Book pages, Twitter, those of you who produce pod casts,
mailing lists
etc, etc, if you believe in your freedom to mobility and your
rights

to

accessible products then make your mark.

More than this, those you know need to say that they too are in
support of
our cause, so get your address book and forward this link,
personalize it
with a few lines of message, get the word out there.

The protest site has a league table on it at the bottom of the

public

signatures page, it's dynamic and countries move about on the list.
To date
we've only had a tiny portion of blind people around the world sign

up.

Spread the word folks.

The Talk2 List Common sense: dead!

2009-12-02 Thread Onj

An Obituary printed in the London Times - Interesting and sadly rather
true.

Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has
been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was, since
his

birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape.

He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as:

- Knowing when to come in out of the rain;
- Why the early bird gets the worm;
- Life isn't always fair;
- and maybe it was my fault.

Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more
than you can earn) and reliable strategies (adults, not children, are in
charge).

His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well-intentioned but
overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a 6-year-old boy
charged with sexual harassment for kissing a class mate; teens suspended
from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for
reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition.

Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job
that they themselves had failed to do in disciplining their unruly
children.

It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent
to administer sun lotion or an aspirin to a student; but could not inform
parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.

Common Sense lost the will to live as the churches became businesses; and
criminals received better treatment than their victims. Common Sense took a
beating when you couldn't defend yourself from a burglar in your own home
and the burglar could sue you for assault.

Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to
realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her
lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settlement. Common Sense was preceded
in death, by his parents, Truth and Trust, by his wife, Discretion, by his
daughter, Responsibility, and by his son, Reason.

He is survived by his 4 stepbrothers; I Know My Rights, I Want It Now,
Someone Else Is To Blame, and I'm A Victim.

not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone. If you
still remember him, pass this on. If not, join the majority and do nothing.

Just because it's coming from the outside isn't a good excuse not to do
something about it, like not allowing messages with html/attachments to
make it to the list, as there is really no need for either on this
particular forum. I thought that used to be the case?
Also, each of these messages is 42KB, and sending that out to a bunch of
users every time one of these comes in... yeah.

I get enough of these fake spammy/virus things as it is with my broken
Spam Assassin, which is thwarting my efforts at every turn, because I'm
obviously an idiot, and don't know what I'm doing.

Maybe I will build an isolated virtual machine just fur running viruses

The Talk2 List we think, isn't dead!

2009-08-24 Thread Onj

Despite what you might think, we're not dead, DAve. Far from it in fact,
Dave. Actually, where is Dave anyway? Isn't he hanging out on Freeview,
Sky and Virgin cable these days? Man, what a most definitely boring
passtime or something.
Anyway I came to say thanks to a few people, namely Kevin Reeves, Patrick
Perdue, John Clower, and some other people that nobody here knows. Why?
Simply due to the fact that they have helped me most recently.

We have a problem, and I think the only way to solve it is by asking for
your support. Since a fairly large contingent of people listen to that
thing called The Beyond Radio Network, it is my duty to inform you that as
of this writing, the servers that host it are now 152% overquota on
bandwidth usage. At $0.10 per GB, this is quickly going to mount up. So
unless we simply put the boxes offline until end of month which by the
way,

simply cannot happen at all because I have paying clients and they would
hate me for it, my only other recourse is to ask for your help, but not in
a

conventional way either.
I have resisted shamelessly plugging on this list because quite frankly
it's
pretty gay if you ask me, owner of a list plugging his so-calld
achievements

but in this case I'm doing it to raise money for the continued use of the
servers, so I don't end up $50 or more out of pocket on the first of
September.
Not only do I have my wife's birthday coming up, but in under four weeks,
a
new baby, and both those persons require feeding, clothing, money and
other
items to stay alive. Now I could simply ditch servers in light of all
that

but I flatly refuse to do so. I am not one to start a project like this,
maintain it for four years and then bye bye it at the first sign of
trouble.

We've survived crashes and other rubbish so this is no different, just a
small glitch in our day-to-day runnings that can be solved.
For one thing, if I put mister and misses server offline, then the event
at

the end of this month could not come to your sound systems with it's
glorious bass and blow out your walls! To what am I referring? Why, the
Nottinghill Carnival of course! Yes, very soon it is the anual Carnival
stream, and obviously this requires bandwidth. It is traditional for me
to

stream it for as close on two days solid as I can physically manage, and
this year is no exception. Why fuss and fight in a croud if you don't
have
too? Stay home and hear a small piece of it, and it's quite the good
piece

anyway. I fully intend to bring this to you, even if I have to borrow
another person's server to do it, but for tradition sake, I'd like to keep
it in-house. This, naturally, will put out more bandwidth than usual, so
I

am proposing the following:
Those with CdBaby connections, if you can buy a copy of my first ever
released album, either in digital or physical form, you choose, that money
will go towards wife, baby, and server upkeep. It depends how much I
make,

and that's all upto, or down to you, the lovely people on this list.
I also didn't advertise this previously, because up until Friday, I had no
previews of the tracks. Thanks to CdBaby, there are now 30-second
previews

of all 19 tracks on the album, so that is helpful.

If you do feel so inclined and think you can spair a few American Dollars,
then please visit:
http://cdbaby.com/cd/andrelouis
and purchice your own copy today, either on CD, or by digital download.
Buying two or more entitles you to a 10 percent discount.

I will thank you in advance for buying because it means a lot to me if you
do.
If you think I'm a shameless whore with no life, and that this is a cheap
get-ritch quick scheme on my part, you'd be pretty wrong. OK I admit, the
no life part, but the get-ritch quick scheme? Fail. This kind of endevor
makes hardly any money, and by the time it does, you'd better be selling
by

the hundreds, not just 5 or so. So no, definitely not a quickly get ritch
scheme, but a money-making scheme. Even if it's $9.95, that's a small
amount I can throw in the virtual pocket.
Welcome to Monday and all the not joy that it brings.

Even Blart has a place in proper society now, thanks to a recent movie
release, and a boy who saved the world. That's my defense on that.
Jerks are quite generic, and they're everywhere.
There are at least 24 of them, anyway.

my God, this has to be the most blind sounding e-mail I've ever read.

The email following yours? The entire thread? A small portion of something
that nobody else quite yet understands? I will state for the record I am
confused. Why saying that it's the weekend and to relax makes you think of
being blind I'm not quite sure.

I'm glad that time when such things were around was a quick faze, and
I got over it very fast.

Once again I profess to being quite confused and queerying the state of the
owner of this email for clarification at this time.

The Talk2 List My complaint about Lord Useless Titty-Face III

2009-06-07 Thread Onj
I am writing this letter in simple English in order that everyone can read
and understand my words. Let us note first of all that we must remove our
chains and move towards the light. (In case you didn't
understand that analogy, the chains symbolize Lord Useless Titty-Face III's
self-centered roorbacks and the light represents the goal of getting all of
us to lend a helping hand.) I wish the most lewd cozeners
I've ever seen had the gumption not to gum up what were once great ideas.
For proof of this fact I must point out that I'm at loggerheads with Lord
Titty-Face on at least one important issue. Namely, he
argues that divine ichor flows through his veins. I take the opposite
position, that Lord Titty-Face has compiled an impressive list of
grievances against me. Not only are all of these grievances completely
fictitious, but Lord Titty-Face will probably never understand why he
scares me so much. And he doubtlessly does scare me: His wheelings and
dealings are scary, his harangues are scary, and most of all, he
wants us to believe that society is screaming for his squibs. How stupid
does he think we are? I hardly know. But I will stake the immortality of my
soul that Lord Titty-Face insists that obscurity, evasiveness,
incomprehensibility, indirectness, and ambiguity are marks of depth and
brilliance. How can he be so blind? Very easily. Basically, I cannot
promise not to be angry at Lord Titty-Face. I do promise,
however, to try to keep my anger under control, to keep it from leading
me-as it leads Lord Titty-Face-to use terms of opprobrium such as "grotty
social outcasts" and "nugatory racketeers" to castigate

whomever he opposes.
Lord Titty-Face's accomplices want to quote me out of context for one
purpose and one purpose only: to have more impact on Earth's biological,
geological, and chemical systems during our lifetime and our
children's than all preceding human generations had together. If Lord
Titty-Face ever claims that embracing a system of antinomianism will make
everything right with the world, we must answer only one
thing: "No, the reverse is true." I have a New Year's resolution for him:
He should pick up a book before he jumps to the rash conclusion that his
opinions represent the opinions of the majority-or even a
plurality. I am not embarrassed to admit that I have neither the training,
the experience, the license, nor the clinical setting necessary to properly
defend with dedication and ferocity the very rights that he so
desperately wants to abolish. Nevertheless, I do have the will to
demonstrate conclusively that I find Lord Titty-Face's allegations not only
insalubrious but also possession-obsessed. That's why I
unmistakably suspect that he knows how to lie. It's too bad he doesn't yet
understand the ramifications of lying.
I have begged Lord Titty-Face's devotees to step forth and fight for our
freedom of speech. To date, not a single soul has agreed to help in this
fashion. Are they worried about how Lord Titty-Face might
retaliate? Apparently, even know-it-all Lord Titty-Face doesn't know the
answer to that one. It wouldn't even matter if he did, given that he makes
a lot of exaggerated claims. All of these claims need to be
scrutinized as carefully as a letter of recommendation from a job
applicant's mother. Consider, for example, Lord Titty-Face's claim that he
does the things he does "for the children". The fact of the matter is
that that fact is simply inescapable to any thinking man or woman.
"Thinking" is the key word in the previous sentence.
And, more important, I can't make heads or tails of Lord Titty-Face's
words. I mean, does he want to grasp at straws, trying to find increasingly
dissolute ways to keep a close eye on those who look like
they might think an unapproved thought or doesn't he? It's irrelevant that
my allegations are 100% true. Lord Titty-Face distrusts my information and
arguments and will forever maintain his current opinions.
To tell you the truth, if you looked up "lethargic" in the dictionary,
you'd probably see his picture. As will become apparent sooner or later,
Lord Titty-Face uses the word "epididymodeferentectomy" without
ever having taken the time to look it up in the dictionary. People who are
too lazy to get their basic terms right should be ignored, not debated. The
only thing bigger than the chip on his shoulder is the
grossness of his remonstrations. I don't think anyone questions that. But
did you know that he never misses an opportunity to take advantage of a
crisis, whether contrived or spontaneous?
Lord Titty-Face's personal interest in seeing his convictions shoved down
people's throats is superstitious but that's to be expected of him. Lord
Titty-Face's taradiddles are not witty satire, as he would have
you believe. They're simply the uncompanionable ramblings of someone who
has no idea or appreciation of what he's mocking. Since Lord Titty-Face
claims to know more than the rest of

The Talk2 List A song finding challenge

2009-05-21 Thread Onj
Ladies, gentlemen and alternatives. This list has served almost everybody
on it very well over the years, and now I have accumulated over 100 things
I wish to find, I ask your help.
I am going to attach a very small text file to this message, and if you
know where or how I can obtain one or many of the items in said file, I
will be thankful.
Please note: There is no prize to be gained here, just the satisfaction of
a job well done, and the knowledge that you are helping a man in need.
With over 60 people on this list, I'm sure at least one of you has
something to offer, so I will say thanks in advance, and take my leave,
thusly.

for some reason we have a different day in the UK for the celebration of
mother's day, but that's alright.

I hope all you US mothers had a good time.

Whether you are a mother, have a mother, have ever or will ever be a
mother, or if you're just a bad motha motha, then tonight's show is
dedicated exclusively to you. Mother's Day was ceremoniously celebrated
or

not celebrated around the world, and it makes a stop by The John Zone
beginning this afternoon at 4PM ET. Paul Simon, Ivan Hrvatska, Tim
Wilson,

Larry The Cable Guy, Wesley Willis, Jason Matthews, Space Ghost, Steven
Lynch, Tom Lehrer, Brak, my Uncle Mike, and many others will be stopping
by
throughout the show. In addition, a few dedications will be dedicated in
a

dedicatorial manner to Roxana Saberi, the recently freed American
journalist, and Burt Bacharach, who turns eighty-one today. As per
usual,
more strangeness occurred during this past Sunday's services. So clips
from

that, as well as your requests and comments of a random nature will round
out another extended edition of The John Zone.
http://listen.tbrn.net:/tbrn.ogg.m3u is the link to click from 4 to

The Talk2 List Marrage day

2009-04-18 Thread Onj
Well, today's the day then. My marrage. Yep, tied down, but it's a good
thing.
In any case, with luck if all goes to plan and things don't break, you fine
people will be able to tune into the wedding as it happens live from the
comfort of your own homes by pointing your winamp to

http://listen.tbrn.net:/tbrn.ogg.m3u
at 11 AM EST, 4 PM UK and the rest you can work out I'm sure.
The stream is most likely going to be spotty in places, using 3G to stream
will do that, but an uninterupted archive will be made available at a later
time.
In any case, I suppose I should continue to get ready. Thank you to all
those that want to listen and can make it. Wish me luck.

Just make sure it isn't running when you set the other one up.

look there, for MirandaPreconfigured.exe.
being portable, the exe is not an installer, but a self-extracting
archive so you simply extract it, run it from wherever you wish, and
set up the options.
Upon first run, you will have to skip the import/export wizard by
simply hitting escape, then entering the options with control shift o.
This can of course be changed at a later date.
Also, you wil, just once, have to click use classic mode with the Jaws
cursor, because otherwise the new option layout is not accessible to
you.

Differences from the version found on the site are, from the top of my
head:

*created sounds for the most popular events, such as online, offline,
incoming file transfer, file failed, weather alert

*added message logging to files on a per contact basis, (see
miranda\MsgExport for details)

*allows auto-accept of files from your contacts, using a per contact
directory scheme, such as miranda\received files\an...@andrelouis.com,
assuming you were to receive a file from me for example

*added weather plugin to give weather for your city and others you may
choose

*added the ability to announce online/offline contacts using SAPI
through the speak.dll, must be configured by the user

*added voice-chat capability to Miranda through the use of MirandaCOM,
which allows other users with Miranda and said plugin to communicate,
this being equivalent to Microsoft's voice-chat in Windos Live!

That's all I can think of, probably others but that's a start.
Download is just about 4 megabites.

Any problems, contact me offlist for further help, though I am
getting married this Saturday so will be extremely busy this weekend.
In any case, I will do my best to respond to your queeries (if any) in
a timely manner.

Patrick, all I can say is I'm still a technological doob. Andre, I

Hi.

I am emailing on behalf of a station I listen to called tbrn.net.
They are in the process of moving their stuff.
Issue is they have no place to store their archives of shows.
We are probably talking 500gb 1tb pluss and its going to be ever
expanding.

This is a free radio station so they don't have the cash to host stuff.
They can't host stuff on their own connections of the various staff,
because

of data caps.
They don't have storage for the archives.
To tell you the truth I don't know what the ammount currently is but it
grows every week each file in ogg betwene 80 and 200mb each and longer
depending on things.
Ofcause they can't afford any space at the ammount they are dealing
with.

Its got to the point where there are no archives currently up except b7y
direct link which means either I have to get the stuff from journals, etc
which are not always updated or ask. At any rate they would like any
suggestions.
This message will probably be forewarded to several lists but since I
have

had conversations with you I'd give you a crack at it first.
Ofcause depending on when you get this everyone else will have a copy of
this as I will be doing a message after this to lists.
They can't afford much if anything they are mostly studants all blind I
think some have jobs but not sure.
Any help will be appreciated

i

occasionally

had to run from someone who wouldn't let me go.
i know some people don't love the whole valentine's thing. but it is so

i bet that block is not nearly as big as i remember it being, but i
remember

it being quite a trip.

I'll show you what i've been working on soon- they're presents and i have
to

give them away first. have a nice monday! vas

messes are piling up around me making it hard to relax and get well. i
can't
cuddle grant or cate- they need to stay well- so they are steering clear
of

me. i am bored and tired and achy.
cate and i went through some of the free options around the web for
valentine's to download and print.

when cate is too scared to go downstairs, penny will go with her and
everything is all right. she lets cate dress her up for weddings or try
to
ride her or pull her by the tail almost daily. and even knowing the
torture
she will soon endure, she gets so excited when cate gets home from
school.

we lived on a corner in a typical o.c. tract neighborhood.

hey my little family,
i am determined!

cate: did you love disney games on the computer when you were five?
but the main thing i love about this picture is tree cover you can see in
the
upper right corner. that's how it was all around the block. even on
really
hot days you could find a great place to play in some serious shade.
everyone
had a huge tree or trees somewhere on their property, and bushes, and
ivy,
and a great variety of things. the only reason we had those young trees
on

the corner was because my mom sold our big palm tree to some palm springs
landscapers, ha!

my problem, dear anne, is that it is 2009. kids don't like to get all
fussied

up anymore, and i don't think they would go to the trouble of making up
stories about lost broaches to be able to go to a silly church picnic. in
my
mind the little girls are wearing spring dresses and holding parasols
with
their gloved hands while the boys are eating biscuits and drinking
homemade
rootbeer with their hats and suspenders on. but i live in a dreamland
where i

want everything stylized. i know you understand me, anne.
do you have to be obsessed with yarn and needles and hooks like i am to
think

that is the most inviting little space you've ever seen?

my room is clean and i'm knitting.
Buoy

it made me happy.
and then i found myself a mother. funny, i thought i'd teach awhile
longer

and have grant all to myself and save some money.

i spent a few hours organizing my yarn and needles into that armoire.
she is my best babysitter for cate. she takes turns with me putting cate
to

bed and being her pillow.

i will i will i will. please hold me accountable if you don't see the
results

posted next week. the inspiration pieces:
grant and i talked last fall about wanting to take control and own a home
and
make some of our dreams a reality. so we planned to move back to
california

for some opportunities there.

April 4 will mark my third anniversary on The Beyond Radio Network.
Since

I will be out of town this weekend and unable to do a show during my usual
slot next week, I've opted to commemorate this special occasion tonight
instead. This won't be a broadcast designed for the purpose of patting
myself on the back. Instead it will be a trip down memory lane, complete
with clips from the more notorious shows of the past, an excerpt of the
staff meeting on March 5, 2006, that eventually led to my joining the
network, and a Steve and Karen, who will no doubt be around to help ensure
that the broadcast is as random as possible. Finally the last hour of the
show will be devoted exclusively to an audio collage, featuring every
single

stupid intro I have ever used dating back to the Johntage. This most
certainly will not be a show to miss. So bring your computer or PDA, a
beverage of your choosing, and tune in tonight at 6PM EDT at
http://tbrn.andrelouis.com:/tbrn.ogg.m3u for four hours full of good
times and rich creamery butter

I don't care if you lot have twitter, I don't. I want to vent my anger at
the fact that a drive less than a year old is showing signs of behaving
like a recalcitrant granny when it could be doing so many better things,
like serving me my 409 gigs of data.
Windows says, hard disk 4 D has a bad block. I chkdsk /f the drive and it
took about 15 and a half minutes and recovers files, and does all that, and
I'm then notified it has 53 KB of bad sectors. Now that's less than an
iriver drive, but see, thing about that, is my Iriver drive has 64 K of bad
sectors, and is much, much older. To add to this of course, an Iriver is a
portable device, and who knows if the owner before me dropped it on it's
head like a red-headed stepchild he didn't want? So now I have to replace
a 1 TB drive. I am pissed about this. OK? Good.

Dear Friends,

My name is !Ndugood. I am a wealthy Nigerian prince who loves the jazz
of music. I am seeking your help to move $200,000,000 from my checking
account here in Nigeria to the United States.
I too love the jazz of music and am planning to flee to America to
open many jazz clubs at which I would like you to perform. You will
receive $42,000 a night, plus a meal. My new "Tribal Village Vanguard"
clubs will be of great success and you will become rich like the rest
of American jazz musicians. I have already applied for building code
exemptions to allow thatched stages and the spearing of live animals.

But I desperately need your help. My tribe, the Swindlisi, a peaceful
jazz-loving people, has been horribly oppressed by the ruling military
junta, which despises the jazz of music. My father, an exiled king and
booking agent, was recently imprisoned under the Draconian "three gigs
you're out" law. And now I must flee my beloved country with all of my
improbable wealth. But I need help in moving it. I have so much money
that it will not fit in the allotted two checked bags and one
carry-on. I am therefor want to transfer the money through your ATM
system. (The Nigerian ATM system cannot exchange international
currencies; it only converts "antelope to money").

So please to just provide me with your full name and address, social
security number, bank account and PIN numbers. And you will become
incredibly (literally) rich from playing many jazz gigs. (Note: normal
Nigerian Musician's Union rules apply: three hour performances, two 15
minute breaks allowed, musicians to provide their own mosquito nets,
one open fire per bandstand, one free meal plus anything you kill).

Act now. The first ten musicians to respond will receive a free copy
of the Nigeria's Greatest Jazz Hits CD, by our beloved 'Disoriented'
Gillespie Band, which contains the hits:
The Night Has A Thousand Flies
 Goodbye Shrunken Head
 Here's That Rainy Season
 Just Tribesmen (Lovers No More)
     Take the 'A' Trail
 When I Fall In Quicksand
 Half-Nelson Mandella
 Blue Monkey
 Leopard Skins and Moonbeams
 Blue Mombossa
 Almost Like Being In Lagos
 Sunny Side of the Goatpath
I Didn't Know What Century It Was

Thank you for your many help.

With the push of stuff like Twitter, Facebook, and that other

do over the past year.

If traffic on this list doesn't start becoming a lot more interesting,
I'm going to have to take drastic measures.
Yep, that's right, I'm going to have to start forwarding server logs and
caller ID info for each incoming call to this list, and you won't like
it much.
Lots of phone numbers will become viewable by the public.
Your world will flip it's face off in at least four directions.
They'll turn your power off for being a bad person, and cut your phone
line from the street. If you have cable, you won't anymore. If you have
a satellite dish, make a wish before it hits the ground.

In otherwords, talk!

Now I'm going to be hypocritical and go to sleep.

The Talk2 List Release of Wayfinder Access 2.5

2008-10-13 Thread Onj
For those wayfinder access users who may not be aware, the following
message was taken from the WAyFinder Access users list.

From: Albin Olofsson <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
on Monday, October 13, 2008 2:15 PM

Dear all,

Today Wayfinder Access 2.5 is released! Everyone who is a current Access
user can go to access.getwf.com using the web browser in the phone and
download and install new version.

My name is Albin Olofsson and I recently started to work as Product
Manager

for Wayfinder Access at Wayfinder. I have been following the Talknav forum
for a while and I am very pleased to see the great interest in Wayfinder
Access and all the comments about pros and cons from a user perspective. I
will continue to follow the forum and also be an active participant. Your
input has been very valuable when updating Wayfinder Access. I also would
like to thank Neil who is doing a fantastic job running the Talknav forum,
many thanks Neil!

I really hope that you will like Access 2.5 and that it will contribute to
making your everyday life easier.

Below are the major updates to Wayfinder Access 2.5

* The route update has improved when moving slowly. In Access 2.0 the
guide view do not update correct when the user was moving slow (under 2
miles/hour). This has been changed for version 2.5 making it possible to
approach e.g. a crossroad at a slow speed while the count down of the
distance is correctly updated. Note however, that when moving at very slow
speeds the drift in the GPS position can affect the accuracy of distance
to

the crossing.
* Added functionality to use a position different from the GPS
position as position when browsing the Nearby Views. Once no GPS is
connected, the menu option "Use as position" for search hits can be used
in

order to set the position for the Nearby views.
* GPS status will now indicate when a GPS is connected but no
positions received as well as status of GPS signal from 33, 66 to 100 %
when
positions are available. This view is placed at the top of the Info view
and

is automatically updated.
* In settings it is made possible to set the update frequency of the
four Nearby views All nearby, Crossroads nearby, Favourites nearby, Places
nearby. It is possible to set manual update or specify the number of
seconds

between updates. 0 seconds means that manual updates are required. The
Nearby views will only update when the user is moving and when standing
still no automatic update will happen. For automatic update to start again
the user has to move a minimum of 5 meters. Note that inaccuracy in GPS
positions sometimes will lead to updates of the Nearby views even when
standing still. It is of course always possible to push number 9 for
manual

update.
* TeleAtlas Premium POIs are added drastically increasing the number
of POI's.
* Categories added to category search.
* The map loading functionality on access.mywayfinder.com has been
expanded to cover all regions where Wayfinder has maps. Searching for maps
has also been made easier.
* Default setting for Around you update decreased to 10 seconds and
Locked Nav. rate decreased to 15 seconds.
* Support for S60 Feature Pack 2 (increases phone compatibility)
* General bug fixing

Kind Regards,

Albin

The History of Manure
You learn something everyday...here's your lesson:

Manure: In the 16th and 17th centuries, everything had to be
transported by ship and it was also before commercial fertilizer's
invention, so large
shipments of manure were common.

It was shipped dry, because in dry form it weighed a lot less than
when wet, but once water (at sea) hit it, it not only became heavier,
but the process
of fermentation began again, of which a by product is methane gas. As
the stuff was stored below decks in bundles you can see what could (and
did) happen.

Methane began to build up below decks and the first time someone came
below at night with a lantern, BM!

Several ships were destroyed in this manner before it was determined
just what was happening. After that, the bundles of manure were
always stamped
with the term 'Ship High In Transit' on them, which meant for the
sailors to stow it high enough off the lower decks so that any water
that came into the
hold would not touch this volatile cargo and start the production of
methane.

Thus evolved the term ' S.H.I.T ' , (Ship High In Transport) which has
come down through the centuries and is in use to this very day.

You probably did not know the true history of this word.

 Neither did I.

,,,I had always thought it was a golf term.

other people in the eyes. If life gives you lemons, stick them down your

list does get quite a bit

of traffic.
www.talksusers.com

Now to the Announcement.

TALKS&ZOOMS Version 3.52 - Release Notification
1. Introduction
We proudly announce the release of the Nuance Accessibility Suite -
Nuance TALKS and Nuance ZOOMS - Version 3.52 for Series 60 3rd Edition
for April 2nd, 2008.
This is mostly a maintenance release for versions 3.50 and 3.51 that
improves stability and compatibility to some newer firmware versions,
especially in the field of audio and web browsing.
2. The new handsets
2.1. Changes to the list of supported phone models
No additional handsets are supported with this release, however
compatibility with the latest N95-8GB firmware (15.0.015) has been
improved to make sure that TALKS is automatically enabled when the phone
is turned on.
Please note that we have not tested TALKS&ZOOMS on the Nokia N76, N77,
and N93/N93i, so we do not list these handsets as supported for this
release. One thing we know is that the N93/N93i do not work with ZOOMS,
probably due to video acceleration drivers.
3. What's New?
3.1. Audio improvements
The audio engine of TALKS has been modified to work consistently across
all phones, and to avoid resetting the audio device as much as possible.
This leads to performance improvements on some devices, like the Nokia
E51 and N81, and generally improves stability and compatibility with
accessories like Bluetooth headsets.
In particular, this prevents the crashes observed on some handsets when
using both speech and magnification at the same time, and also greatly
reduces the incidence of issues like the reboot observed on the Nokia
E65 when using speed dials. It also removes the repetition of the last
bit of speech at the end of a sentence observed on phones like the 6110
or E51.
Depending on the exact circumstances, the modified audio behavior may
either increase or reduce responsiveness slightly. In particular, when
using ETI Eloquence, it is recommended to update to the new version
6.1.117 which noticeably reduces the "lag" experienced when pressing a
key.
Please note that these changes do not yet allow TTS engines (other than
the Nokia TTS) to be used during a call, do not yet fix problems playing
back ringtone samples when personalizing a profile, and they keep the
startup melody from being played after entering a PIN code. However,
muting TALKS with [Talks],[Clear] to free up the audio device is still
supported. These situations will be addressed more comprehensively in a
future update.
3.2. Modified cursor handling in Messaging
In previous versions of TALKS, it was already possible to switch between
different cursor modes, "Original", "Letters" and "Words", to control
the behavior of the [Left] and [Right] cursor keys while reading a
message. However, the cursor [Up] and [Down] keys always moved the
cursor line-by-line in the message text. This conflicted with the "Auto
Find" function that highlights links, phone numbers and e-mail addresses
in received messages, and requires the use of [Up] and [Down] to browse
through the highlighted elements.
With this version of TALKS the behavior of the "Original" mode (which is
the default) has been changed to free up the [Up] and [Down] keys for
the Auto Find function. You can still use [Talks],[long 2] to switch to
"Letters" or "Words" mode, which allow full navigation within a message,
while "Original" tries to interfere as little as possible with the way
that reading a message would work without TALKS being installed.
3.3. Improvements to Web browser
* Added workaround to allow editing of text and password fields on
E90, E51, N81, 6120 - please note that this currently means that T9 is
not available in Edit fields on these phones, and that passwords are
always read back, regardless of the "Echo passwords" setting
* Increased size limit for sentences in browser, to reduce
occasional cutting off of text
* Better support for some WebPages using the tag
* Quick keys [6] and [7] skip text consisting of only a single
character, e.g. vertical bar between links
* Cursor up/down maintain old function in browser if TALKS support
does not work (e.g. in local pages)
* Added Training Mode entries for keys with special functions in
Web and WAP browsers
3.4. Other changes
* Idle screen: Operator Info (e.g. "Home"), Search, Missed Calls
entries are recognized, as well as fixing some other cases where focused
line was not identified correctly
* Prevented screensaver from activating while TALKS is reading
text
* Screensaver no longer speaks on N95-8GB when it

The Talk2 List Yam Hill

2008-04-02 Thread Onj

An Old Jamaican man lived alone in the country. He wanted to dig
his Yellow Yam and Sweet Potato Garden, but it was very hard work as
the ground was hard. His only son, Vincent, who used to help him, was
in prison. The old man wrote a letter to his son and described his
predicament:Dear Vincent, I am feeling pretty badly because it looks
like I won't be able to plant my Yellow Yam and Sweet Potato Garden
this year. I'm just getting too old to be digging up a garden plot. I
know if you were here my troubles would be over. I know you would be
happy to dig the plot for me.Love, DadA few days later he received a
letter from his son:Dear Dad,Don't dig up that garden. That's where I
buried the bodies.Love, VinnieThe next morning, FBI agents and local
police arrived and dug up the entire area without finding any bodies.
They apologized to the old man and left. That same day the old man
received another letter from his son:Dear Dad,Go ahead and plant the
Yams and Potatoes now. That's the best I could do under the

The Talk2 List Wanna laugh tonight?

2008-03-22 Thread Onj
If you do, stay tuned for a very strange and hopefully funny Louis bin.
the host is in an unusual mood and because of this fact, lots of possibly
and probably funny content is to be playd for the first time on this
network, tonight.
There isn't long you know. just 9 minutes at the time of this writing, to
tune in. Do you know where? Do you even know how?

Well some clues for you if you don't.
www.tbrn.net
that's a website. There, you can read and have plenty of fun learning
things that you otherwise might not have known.

www.tbrn.net/play
well that's equally as fun, and allows you to listen pretty much anywhere,
anyhow, if it works for you.

However,
http://tbrn.net:/tbrn.ogg
This is the best way for listening if you've got an ogg-capable player.
Winamp or foobar for example. If you do, it would be advisable to use it
because it will sound better than alternative formats.

So please, tune in and see what you find.

Hi all!

Well today just so happens to be my one-year anniversary when I moved
back to my home here in Michigan. So join me for some recordings that no
one has heard before, of the move, and of the how, of it all came to be.

Also, this will be my first show where I have a real working phone
solution that goes beyond a speaker phone, as well as a few other little
show enhancements. I've heard a small buzz that there may also be a
surprise in this show. I don't even know what it is yet.

So come kick back with me at 9 PM eastern time and share special

If I didn't go toilet before reading, I'd have quite unhappily pissed myself

Whoever wrote it did a good job for sure.

On Friday, February 15, 2008 9:57 PM,
Vanja Sudar happened to mention in passing:

This is just hilarious!

Dear Citizens of America,

In view of your failure to elect a competent President and thus to
govern yourselves, we hereby give notice of the revocation of your
independence, effective immediately.

Her Sovereign Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, will resume monarchical
duties over all states, commonwealths and other territories (except
Kansas, which she does not fancy), as from Monday next.

Your new prime minister, Gordon Brown, will appoint a governor for
America without the need for further elections. Congress and the Senate
will be disbanded. A questionnaire may be circulated next year to
determine whether any of you noticed.

To aid in the transition to a British Crown Dependency, the following
rules are introduced with immediate effect:

1. You should look up "revocation" in the Oxford English Dictionary.
Then look up "aluminium," and check the pronunciation guide. You will be
amazed at just how wrongly you have been pronouncing it.

2. The letter 'U' will be reinstated in words such as 'colour', 'favour'
and 'neighbour.' Likewise, you will learn to spell 'doughnut' without
skipping half the letters, and the suffix "ize" will be replaced by the
suffix "ise."

3. You will learn that the suffix 'burgh' is pronounced 'burra'; you may
elect to spell Pittsburgh as 'Pittsberg' if you find you simply can't
cope with correct pronunciation.

4. Generally, you will be expected to raise your vocabulary to
acceptable levels (look up "vocabulary"). Using the same twenty-seven
words interspersed with filler noises such as "like" and "you know" is
an unacceptable and inefficient form of communication.

5. There is no such thing as "US English." We will let Microsoft know on
your behalf. The Microsoft spell-checker will be adjusted to take
account of the reinstated letter 'u' and the elimination of "-ize."

6. You will relearn your original national anthem, "God Save The Queen",
but only after fully carrying out Task #1 (see above).

7. July 4th will no longer be celebrated as a holiday. November 2nd will
be a new national holiday, but to be celebrated only in England. It will
be called "Come-Uppance Day."

8. You will learn to resolve personal issues without using guns, lawyers
or therapists. The fact that you need so many lawyers and therapists
shows that you're not adult enough to be independent. Guns should only
be handled by adults. If you're not adult enough to sort things out
without suing someone or speaking to a therapist then you're not grown
up enough to handle a gun.

9. Therefore, you will no longer be allowed to own or carry anything
more dangerous than a vegetable peeler. A permit will be required if you
wish to carry a vegetable peeler in public.

10. All American cars are hereby banned. They are crap and this is for
your own good. When we show you German cars, you will understand what we
mean.

11. All intersections will be replaced with roundabouts, and you will
start driving on the left with immediate effect. At the same time, you
will go metric immediately and without the benefit of conversion tables.
Both roundabouts and metrification will help you understand the British
sense of humour.

12. The Former USA will adopt UK prices on petrol (which you have been
calling "gasoline") - roughly $8/US per gallon. Get used to it.

13. You will learn to make real chips. Those things you call french
fries are not real chips, and those things you insist on calling potato
chips are properly called "crisps." Real chips are thick cut, fried in
animal fat, and dressed not with catsup but with malt vinegar.

14. Waiters and waitresses will be trained to be more aggressive with
customers.

15. The cold tasteless stuff you insist on calling beer is not actually
beer at all. Henceforth, only proper British Bitter will be referred to
as "beer," and European brews of known and accepted provenance will be
referred to as "Lager." American brands will be referred to as
"Near-Frozen Gnat's Urine," so that all can be sold without risk of
further confusion.

16. Hollywood will be required occasionally to cast English actors as
good guys. Hollywood will also be required to cast English actors as
English characters. Watching Andie MacDowell attempt English dialogue in
"Four Weddings and a Funeral" was an experience akin to having one's ear
removed with a cheese grater.

17. You will cease playing American "football." There is only one kind
of proper football; you call it "soccer". Those of you brave enough, in
time, will be allowed to play rugby (which has some similarities to
American "football", but does not involve stopping for a rest every
twenty seconds or wearing full kevlar body ar

Hi, all.
I'm selling what is, IMHO, the most capable hard-drive based MP3
player ever made. That's particularly true for blind users. It's the
Iriver h-320 with Rockbox installed and talking on it. The machine can
play MP3, WMA, AAC, OGG, FLAK, and a bunch of other file formats, can
record using either a built-in microphone or a line-in jack, can be
connected to other audio equipment through a line-out jack, and has an
FM radio built in. All the work of installing Rockbox, which, though not
difficult, does require a sighted person in my experience, has already
been done and it will, therefore, come talking out of the box. All the
user will need to do is boot it, connect it to a computer, transfer
audio to it, and play/record. It can, like all Rockboxable players, have
file transfers done through Windows Explorer and does not need any extra
software. It comes with its case, a screen cleaning cloth, its USB
cable, and the charger which supports all voltages. I will be happy to
take any purchaser over the player when he/she receives it so that
he/she will know the buttons/jacks/switches immediately. The full
technical specs are below. I'd like to get £130 or best offer for the
unit including shipping anywhere in the world. , and I'll except Paypal,
credit card, money orders, or cheques, though the latter will have to
clear before I send the unit. Either reply to this message or send one to

The Talk2 List Postponing the Louis Bin

2008-01-26 Thread Onj
Hi. i do have content this week, for sure. However, it's something I wish
to start next week, being as it's the start of a new month. Plus it looks
better in the archives.
I have been able to obtain the third series of Little Britain, and not only
do I have that, but bonus material too from when the creators were on some
British Tv programs which you all might find interesting. So there's about
8 weeks lined up, and I think it would be very silly to start it now. So
given that Derek's kind of out for the count in part, I will forgo the show
this week in favour of sleeping.

Enjoy your Saturdays, all of you.

I really do miss those finals.

The Final Exam

INSTRUCTIONS: Read each question thoroughly. Answer
all questions.

Time limit--four hours. Begin immediately.

HISTORY: Describe the history of the Papacy from its
origins to the present day, concentrate specifically
but not exclusively, on the social, political,
economic, religious, and philosophical impact on
Europe, Asia, America and Africa. Be brief, concise
and specific.

LITERATURE: Compose an epic poem based on the events

with a full discussion of its metrics.

MUSIC: Write a piano concerto. Orchestrate it and
perform it with flute and drum. You will find a piano
under your seat.

LOGIC: Using accepted methodology prove all four of
the following: That the universe is infinite; that
truth is beauty; that there is not a little person
who turns off the light in the refrigerator when you
close the door, and that you are the person taking
this exam. Now disprove all of the above. Be specific;
show all work.

PHILOSOPHY: Sketch the development of human thought;
estimate its significance. Compare with the
development of any other kind of thought.

MEDICINE: You have been provided with a razor blade, a
piece of gauze, and a bottle of Scotch. Remove your
own appendix. Do not suture until your work has
been inspected. You have fifteen minutes.

BIOLOGY: Create life. Estimate the differences in
subsequent human culture if this form of life had
developed five hundred years earlier, with special
attention
to the probable effects on the English Parliamentary
system. Prove your thesis.

PSYCHOLOGY: Employing principles from the major
schools of psychoanalytic thought, successfully
subject yourself to analysis. Make appropriate
personality
changes, bill yourself and fill out all medical
insurance forms. Now do the same to the person seated
to your immediate left.

SOCIOLOGY: Estimate the sociological problems that
might accompany the end of the world. Show how boy
meets girl theory developed. Construct and experiment
to test your theory.

ECONOMICS: Develop a realistic plan for refinancing
the national debt. Trace the possible effects of you

controversy, the wave theory of light. Outline a
method from all points of view. Point out deficiencies
in your argument as demonstrated in your answer
to the last question.

COMPUTER SCIENCE: Define computer. Define Science. How
do they relate? Why? Create a generalized algorithm to
optimize all computer decisions. Assuming
an 1130 CPU supporting 50 terminals, each terminal to
activate your algorithm, design the communications to
interface and all the necessary control programs.

PUBLIC SPEAKING: 2,500 riot crazed students are
storming the classroom. Calm them. You may use any
ancient language except Latin or Greek.

PHYSICS: Explain the nature of matter. Include in your
answer an evaluation of the impact of the development
of mathematics on science.

AGRICULTURAL SCIENCE: Outline the steps involved in
breeding your own super high yield, all weather hybrid
strain of wheat. Describe its chemical and physical
properties and estimate its impact on world food
supplies. Construct a model for dealing with
world-wide surpluses. Write your Nobel Prize
acceptance speech.

COMPREHENSION: three minute time test. Read everything
before doing anything. Put your name in the upper
right hand corner of this page. Circle the word
name in sentence three. Sign your name under the title

The Talk2 List de police and de lawyer- Jamaican style

Subject: de police and de lawyer- Jamaican style

Dee law is dee law... yuh heeaar !!??

The Kingston Lawyer and The Country Policeman

A lawyer runs a stop sign in Portland and gets pulled over by the Police. He
thinks that he is smarter than the police because he is a lawyer from
Kingston and is certain that he has a better education than any Jamaican
Police. He decides to prove this to himself and have some fun at the Police
expense.

The Police says,"Yuh License an yuh registration, please."

"What for?" says the lawyer.

The Police says, "Yuh didn't come to a complete stop at de stop
sign."

Then the lawyer says, "I slowed down, and no one was coming."

"Yuh neva did come to a complete stop," Says the Police. "License an
registration, please."
The lawyer says, "What's the difference?"

"De difference is dat yuh hav fe come to ah complete stop - dat's de law.
License an registration, please!" the Police says.

The Lawyer says,
"If you can show me the legal difference between slow down and stop, I'll
give you my license and registration and you give me the ticket. If not, you
let me go and don't give me ah ticket."

"That sounds fair. Get yuh rass outa de vehicle, sar," the Police says.

At this point, the Police drape up de man, pull out his baton and starts
beating the ever-loving hell out of the lawyer and says,

"Yuh waan me fe stop, ar just slow down.?Tell meh quick!!"

Re: The Talk2 List winamp5.5

2007-10-12 Thread Onj
I haven't upgraded winamp since I had Malcolm, the old AMD Athlon XP 3000+
which died in december. My winamp on all three of my machines is a
customised 5.3 and loads even on the 750 mhz server box in under 5 seconds.
It's fast and it's stable and still works.
I stole some plugins from other places and my wave files do work in the open
dialog for whatever reason, so I'm happy, but yes, the general concensus
does seem to be, and I do personally agree, winamp after about version 5
point whatever is a pile. Probably earlier than 5.3 but mine works for me,
so I stopped there.

On Friday, October 12, 2007 5:52 AM,
Patrick Perdue happened to mention in passing:

On 10/12/2007, 12:17:39 AM EDT, John left a message in a bottle, stating:

This is why I never upgraded past 5.08. Once I heard of those wav
issues I was pretty much turned off to the later versions of Winamp.

Semi-long post ahead!

There are workarounds for all this. If you want wav file type to show up
in the open dialogue of the main window and playlist for newer versions
of winamp (something that should not be necessary in the first place),
here are two possible methods of making this happen:

1. Go to options, plugins, input. Select "Nullsoft Waveform Decoder
vX.X", and press "configure".
Here, you will find a list of file types to associate with the wav input
plugin, as well as other options pertaining to dithering, bit
depth/sample rate conversion, and such. Take care to make sure that only
the following extensions are selected in this list:
wav, voc, au, snd, aif, aiff
Selecting a combination that I haven't determined after this point
usually breaks it, and I have no idea why. It probably won't matter so
much as these are generally quite obscure file types, and if you really
need to play them that badly, then you are strange.

2. If the first method doesn't work, try this one:
Open winamp.ini found in either your winamp main directory or in
.x:\documents and settings\application data\winamp if you were
boring and configured it that way. Look for a line starting with
"extlist". You will see a list of all registered, but not necessarily
all associated extensions, not necessarily
in order. Here is mine as an example, although yours will surely differ,
but this is known to work for me with newer versions of winamp:
extlist=AC3:VOB:CDA:MPG:MPEG:M2V:AVI:ASF:WMV:mod:mdz:nst:stm:stz:s3m:s3z:it:itz:xm:xmz:mtm:ult:669:far:amf:okt:ptm:MP3:MP2:MP1:m3u:pls:ogg:mid:au:aif:aiff:ra:ram:wav

Let me again state how stupid this is, and show my general annoyance that
this is necessary at all in some cases.

As with many things, I am generally annoyed. 'What this time?' Well, I
am generally annoyed at anything past about Winamp 5.08 or so for
various reasons,
therefore, I am using a slimmed-down hybrid of winamps with version 2.80
at it's core, using some old and new plugins. It's very stable. I've
been running FX Radio continuously now on three copies of these Winamp
2.80/5.x/other hybrids now for 51 days (up to 65 so far) without a
single crash or anything bad happening. It only died after 65 days due
to prolonged power failure thanks to a storm in August.

Mind you, for broadcasting, I am using a newer one, version 5.2 to be
exact, just because it has
that cool global hotkeys thingy. I did try taking the global hotkey
plugin and sticking it in an older version of winamp, but they were too
clever for that, and only allowed it to work with versions 5.0 and up.

I find that older versions of Winamp are far more snappy and generally
responsive about things, and am still looking for Winamp alternatives.
The best option right now is probably Foobar2000, but there are plenty
of things that annoy me about this one, which I don't think I'll bother
getting into at the moment.

Tip: If you don't use it, uninstall or disable the Winamp library. It
will make loading time much faster.
By default, the Winamp library hangs out in the background and looks at
all the music,
streams, etc. that you've played, and keeps a nice index of them. So,
the more media you play, the bigger the database gets, and the longer it
takes to launch Winamp, thus, allowing it to get fat and giving it the
opportunity to apologize for it later... unless you either uninstall the
Winamp library, or configure it not to cache all that stuff behind you.

God, I hope all this crap has been informative and/or useful to at least
someone, as all this info has been obtained purely from experience and
nothing else.

Have a good slushy day.

Every time you've done tests or whatever, you seem to purposefully make it

I remember back in May of 05 when I was too scared to call into a show.
Here it is, almost two and a half years later, and I'm finally ready to
do a show of my own. Wow.

What is it?

The show is called Kickin' Back with Mary Ann. It will be a mix of music,
life, silliness, maybe some inspiration that comes from a story or two,
and of course, listener interaction. After all, where would the show be
without the listeners?

When is it?

My show will debut this Sunday, September 30, from 9 until 11 PM Eastern
time.

How do you listen?

Like all shows on The Beyond Radio Network, mine can be heard on the main
channel.

Just point WinAmp to the following link.

http://tbrn.net:/tbrn.ogg

So bring your favorite food and/or beverage with you and come Kick Back
with Mary Ann beginning this Sunday, from 9 to 11 PM Eastern time.

See you there.

The Talk2 List Jane and Arlene

2007-09-27 Thread Onj

Once again from the venerable grandmother comes this little tale.

Jane and Arlene are outside their nursing home, having a drink and a smoke,
when it starts to rain. Jane pulls out a condom, cuts off the end, puts i t
over her cigarette, and continues smoking.

Arlene: What in the hell is that?

Jane: A condom. This way my cigarette doesn't get wet.

Arlene: Where did you get it?

Jane: You can get them at any drugstore.

The next day, Arlene hobbles herself into the local drugstore and announces
to the pharmacist that she wants a box of condoms.

The pharmacist, obviously embarrassed, looks at her kind of strangely (she
is after all, over 80 years of age), but very delicately asks what brand of
condom she prefers.

"Doesn't matter Sonny, as long as it fits on a Camel."
The pharmacist fainted.

The Talk2 List The louis Combobox, what does it do?

2007-09-22 Thread Onj
Well aside from talking to you the listeners, playing music and on
occasion, writing tracks live on air, I will today if the phone and my GPS
permits, be attempting to demo Wayfinder Access from www.talknav.com as I
recently bought it, and thought that some of you might be interested to see
what it's like.
Tune in at the usual time of 5 PM eastern and see what there is to see.
Being as this is radio however, that won't be much, but that's really not a
problem. I shall make it not one.

Oh, and since I have more of Little Britain, this time the TV version,
listen for that as well. I haven't heard it as with a lot of things I play
on my show, so it's a first not only for you, but for me too.

Re: The Talk2 List MARRIED LIFE - Mary Ann unleashes! Look out!

es and chocolates coming out of my ears and it'll never end. I
hate the fluffy puppy love crap, I want to find someone who will let me
be the kind of person I really am around her. I don't want to cut her
out of my life and hide in a cave and spend my entire day on the
computer, but I would like to not feel like a slime bucket when I do. I
want to find someone who will be interested in some of the same stuff as
me, and wouldn't mind sharing these hobbies with me. I'm willing to
participate in her hobbies too but it never seems to work that way.
Every woman I've ever dated has always tried to take away everything I
hold dear, and replace it with stuff she wants me to participate in. I'm
a geek, I like who I am, stop trying to make me someone I'm not! Watch
Star Trek with me and don't belittle it. Listen to books with me, and
comment on the parts that you liked and disliked. Help to broaden my
horizons and expose me to new ideas that I've never thought of. Talk to
me on an intellectual level, I'm not an idiot. Be a part of my circle of
friends, or at least let me hang out with them on a regular basis. These
are the things I'm looking for in a relationship, and your e-mail helped
me understand the way women think a bit better. Maybe if I had said some
of these things to the people I've dated, things may have changed for
the better. Perhaps if I were more open with people, they would
understand me a little better.

Thanks Mary Ann,
Byron

now i will take this time to use the facilities and then close out with a
flush. (does the expected but you don't get to hear it.:)
oh know! 1 turned into 2 so now i gotta poo! wow, can you guys believe
that poo is actually in the dictionary? i can't.
ok so the moral of the story: do not, sit on the pot and write on a phone

Dear AbilityNet tester,

We are currently researching the use of social networking websites (such
as MySpace, YouTube and Facebook) by people with disabilities.

We'd like to hear about the networking sites you enjoy using, which ones
are not accessible to you and what improvements you would like to see
made.

Also, if you live in the Greater London area and would like to be take
part in a usability test or be interviewed on video please get in touch.

The questionnaire starts with an introduction; you can go straight to
the form if you don't want to read it.

We estimate the form will take between 20 and 45 minutes to complete,
depending on whether you're using an assistive technology.

If you don't want to fill out the whole questionnaire, you can either
complete the parts you're interested in or reply viaa email.

Please do forward this email to anyone you think might be interested.

All responses need to back by next Monday (17th September).

We have tested the form with a variety of assistive technologies but
even we get things wrong!

So if you have a problem, please do throw a tomato at me and if you have
a moment let us know and we'll fix it.

Many thanks in advance for your time,

The Talk2 List Ladder VS Latter

2007-08-19 Thread Onj
From a book that I'm currently reading, comes the following: I think it

makes this problem easier to understand.

We went in and found a young guy in new BDUs behind the counter. He was
a cheerful corn-fed country boy. He looked like he was working in his dad's
hardware store, and he looked like it was his life's ambition. He was
enthusiastic. I told him we were interested in construction equipment. He
opened a manual the size of eight phone books. Found the correct section. I
asked him to find listings for crowbars. He licked his forefinger and
turned pages and found two entries. Prybar, general issue, long, claw on
one end and then crowbar; general issue, short, claw on both ends. I asked
him to show us an example of the latter.

Hi all,

Many of you will no doubt remember the LJ Markov random text generator.
Basically for those who don't know, it takes the text from a live
journal, and kind of does strange things with it. You can use it even
if you don't have an LJ yourself. You just have to fill in a little
form with any LJ user name, (so long as there's public entries in it cos
it doesn't pick up protected ones), the number of words you want to use,
and another number for how random you want it to be. The great thing
is, once you've filled in the info, you don't need to redo it every time
you want to see a different result, just hit f5 and it'll give you a
different random thingy from the same journal. It's been down for ages,
but I discovered today that it's finally returned. the link is:

The Talk2 List FS: Midi modules Edirol SD-20 & Roland XV-5050

2007-07-25 Thread Onj
Hello. I have the following equipment for sale. Equipment is being sould
due to lack of use in recent months, and it's getting annoyed with simply
sitting on my computer table.
For the sake of keeping this message short, I haven't provided discriptions
from manufacturer's websites etc, but for more info, just reply to me and
I'll explain anything you want.

Firstly, Edirol SD-20 soundcanvas.
Unit is in good condition and has never left the house. I can most liekly
find the box, and driver CD's. Unit is USB bus powered, and also has AC
adaptor which I have, so you can choose to power it from your PC or Mac, or
from a wall outlet. £90 or best offer.

Next, Roland XV-5050. This unit also contains SRX-01 Dynamic drums and
SRX-07 ultimate keys which currently on ebay go for £139 as of last check.
XV-5050 brandnew is going for around £450. Would ideally like £300 for
module (without expansions), £120 per expansion, and will therefore lower
module plus both expansions to exactly £500 or again, best offer. If buyer
requires both units, will pass them all up for £550, or both units plus
expansions for £650 flat.

Both units in very good condition will simply require dusting, which I will
of course do before sending. XV-5050 is missing some rubber feet however,
and the volume knob although working fine, has a tendancy to slide off the
metal casing. This could be rectified with a little glue.

I accept Paypal or bank transfer.
Hoping to hear from someone musically inclined as I want this equipment to
go to a good home.

If there's one thing I don't appreciate, it's being spoofed. Since I don't
use windows mail, the following line proves it isn't me.

X-Mailer: Microsoft Windows Mail 6.0.6000.16480 (via Mercury/32 v4.01b)

I have no wish to move to Windows Vista for one thing, and off-topic posting
for another is usually specified.
I would like to know who did that, and why they thought it would be perhaps
entertaining.
Lastly, I appologise for this, and will be investigating immediately.

The Talk2 List The Monkey Who Eats Everything In Sight! Uhh, ouch!!

2007-07-08 Thread Onj

A guy walks into a bar with his pet monkey. He
orders a
drink and while he's drinking, the monkey starts
jumping
all over the place. The monkey grabs some olives
off the
bar and eats them, then grabs some sliced limes and
eats

them, then jumps up on the pool table, grabs the cue
ball, sticks it in his mouth and swallows it whole.
The bartender screams at the guy, "Did you see what
your
monkey just did?" The guy says, "No, what?" "He
just ate

the cue ball off my pool table - whole!" says the
bartender. "Yeah, that doesn't surprise me,"
replies the
patron. "He eats everything in sight, the little
twerp.
I'll pay for the cue ball and stuff." He finishes
his
drink, pays his bill, and leaves. Two weeks later
he's
in the bar again, and he has his monkey with him.
He
orders a drink and the monkey starts running around
the

   bar again.

While the man is drinking, the monkey finds a
maraschino
cherry on the bar. He grabs it, sticks it up his
butt,
pulls it out, and eats it. The bartender is
disgusted.
"Did you see what your monkey did now?" "Now what?"
asks
the patron. "Well, he stuck a maraschino cherry up
his

butt, then pulled it out and ate it!" says the
   barkeeper.
"Yeah, that doesn't surprise me," replies the
patron.
"He still eats everything in sight, but ever since
he
ate that huge cue ball he measures everything
first!"

The Talk2 List Subject: Subject: Subject: Subject: Subject:

2007-06-29 Thread Onj
Was that captivating? Was it as useful as a cabbage patch in heat? Was it
I ask you, as tasteless as a dead monotonic piano tuner falling from the
boxes of Latzish? I figured you'd say yes, no, yes. OR perhaps yes, no,
no. Or perhaps no, yes, yes. Or if you're really mad, yes, yes, yes!
It's all subjective however. It doesn't even matter in the grand scheme of
things. what matters is that I'm bored. It's Friday evening, this list is
deader than a mouse in a mouse-trap that's been left for 30 years and 30
months, my old 233 server that ended up in a chute some months ago, and
thus it is boring.
This has to change. I don't know who will change it besides myself, but
someone, somewhere, somehow, has to do something. It's that important. If
nobody does, then what will the world think? Probably not much as it won't
care, but it will come to get you. And it will come to take you away and
you will never be heard from, or of, again. Would you like that? do you
know the subsequent dangers of such a thing? I live in a country where 50
HZ prevails. How many on this list also live in a country where 50 HZ
prevails? there are a lot of you where the good old 60 takes precedence
but not I might add, here.
Also, what percentage of people are within the 5 FT to 6 FT range? All
questions I have wondered about but never been bothered to actually find
out. How many are below it, and how many above? There are some very scary
and tall people out there you know, and I know some of them. There are
equally some very small and short, just as scary people out there you know,
and my sister is one of them. However she's too young to answer the
question posed above. That doesn't mean she doesn't qualify or anything,
but that's just the way it is.

FAAArt!!!
Do excuse me, I did have to let that one out. Also, Maria isn't here to
tell me off about it, so I figured why not? Now when you read this
message, you all get to smell it instead. Isn't that just wonderful?
OK. I will all tell you a secret. I hate, and I do mean really, really,
really dislike intensely, smelling the food of others. I mention this
right now, simply because what I smell is making me hungrier than an
Ethiopian that just walked across the searing desert, because it doesn't
just smell good, it smells damn fantastic! Do you understand that feeling?
Having the smell coming through your open window, and being unable in no
way at all, to do anything about it, other than to close that window, and
thus lose the feeling of freshness you've attempted to cultivate in your
house all day?
Well if you do understand me, then understand this. The smell is special.
It smells as if someone. made me pick up the phone, lose my train of
thought, and then run after it down the track and catch it, pummel it to
death, jump on the back end of it, smother it in wibbage and carry on.
So about this food then. It smells as if it were made especially for me.
all food in all the world is made especially for me, you know? It is. you
don't believe me I think. Oh well, never mind. The food that was made for
me that I can't eat, smells like it would taste like the best meal this
side of Sunday, when my mother, who does cook especially for me, oh, and
Maria, cooks dinner. Then on top of that, the wind blows the smell of the
food in here, so much so that I believe if I stuck my tongue out, I could
taste it. Taste it I tell you! It's that good.
Maybe some pork, with a hint of garlic, perhaps a little mushroom,
marinated in a little wine, or perhaps olive oil, and I just don't even
want to think about it! It makes me want to order food from the Indian
place but I have no money. I do have a card however. I never thought of
that. Only problem is that Maria wouldn't like it, because she's not here
to oovle in the food I could buy. Had she been here to oovle in the food I
could buy, then I would probably buy it. As it is, I shall have to satisfy
myself with the freezer. That could prove perhaps dangerous to my nether
regions yes, some of you did already think of it before I did, so I shall
simply rephrase and say, satisfy my hunger with content found in my
freezer. I think that is better.

I'm leaving now, because I've been writing this email for some considerable
length of time and it has no longer got a point to it, though I'm not
altogether sure that it ever did have. Are you?

The Talk2 List employability in U.K.

2007-06-12 Thread Onj

Forwarded from someone somewhere else:
If you're not in or from the UK, this will probably not interest you at
all.

Monday 11 June 2007 11:41
Department for Work And Pensions (National)
New initiative to increase employment opportunities for disabled people
Employers should make use of the wide pool of resources and skills that
disabled employees have to offer according to John Hutton, Secretary of
State for the Department for Work & Pensions. He today announced a new
initiative, 'Employ Ability', which will highlight the benefits of
employing

disabled people and dispel some of the myths.
With over 600,000 vacancies in the British economy waiting to be filled, Mr
Hutton believes that employers may be missing out on talented and motivated
staff if they refuse to look at disabled workers as a solution to their
staffing needs.
Mr Hutton said:
"I believe we need to go further in getting employers themselves to do more
in supporting both recruitment and retention of disabled people.
"However, we will not succeed in changing the attitudes of employers by
simply placing additional burdens on them. It has to be about enabling them
to see and benefit from the huge potential that disabled people have to
offer and the difference that they can make to an employer's bottom line."
Mr Hutton said that Government has played its part in helping disabled
people to be 'work-ready' - through programmes such as New Deal for
Disabled

People and Pathways to Work - and employers should make more use of this
workforce, which the Employ Ability initiative will help them to do.
Employ Ability will be piloted in the four cities of Leeds, Bradford,
Manchester and Liverpool from September before being rolled out nationally
next year and will:
- Challenge negative assumptions about the skills and talent disabled
workers, and those with long-term health conditions have to offer and
address misconceptions of risk (such as that adaptations to the workplace
for the disabled employee are costly - in most cases the costs are
negligible or cost nothing)
- Build the confidence of employers in recruiting and retaining disabled
workers and promote best practice examples of how this is being
successfully

done to the benefit of business.
- Improve employers' access to practical information, making it easier for
them to locate relevant sources of advice and support for their situation.
Employ Ability will advise employers not only on best practice in
recruiting

disabled employees but also in retaining current employees who become
disabled while in the job - this is necessary in order to prevent those
employees from having to leave their job.
Disabled people cannot be ignored as part of the solution if the government
is to meet the target of an overall 80% employment rate and eradicating
child poverty in Britain. The current employment rate of disabled people is
50% compared to 74% for non-disabled people.
Increasing the number of disabled people in mainstream employment will also
help towards achieving equality of disabled people in society overall,
which

is one of the ambitions of the government.
Mr Hutton said:
"Our ambition must be a world where meeting the needs of disabled people is
seen not as a burden but as an opportunity; where discrimination is seen
not

as an inevitable part of the culture of our country but as a fundamental
barrier to our success; and where disabled people themselves are never
consigned to accepting second best but empowered and supported to achieve
full equality of opportunity and genuine independence and respect within
our

society."

The Talk2 List A strange and bored thing

2007-06-06 Thread Onj
The following is a spam message received in German. I got so bored, I
google-translated it because well, as I just stated didn't I? I was bored.
Look at the rubbish it produces.
The only reason I send spam is for the interestingness of it, and the fact
that actually, it's quite a novelty to receive spam in a different
language.
German to English and original text is first, just in case anyone has any
better ideas. Look at the way it simply stops. That's how the email was
received. Totally pointless, right?

Derek, here you go.

The Talk2 List TBRN conference system

2007-05-17 Thread Onj
ARe you bored enough to pick up a phone and dial 1-702-520-5123? If so,
then do it at your earliest convenience and help us test the TBRN
conference.
There's no point to doing it, but it's fun regardless. If your in the UK,
0207-0784221 will do the same thing, but with that number, you must press 0
when you hear the stupid menu with the stupid voice prompts on said stupid
menu. It's stupid, but I think I made that clear by now.

Good table.

The Talk2 List Automatic: Discombobulation of oven gloves immenant!

2007-04-18 Thread Onj
Hello. This is a very on-topic message merely to ask why it is that the
cecular groupy society of talkative squeeky chese pumps only now, after
seconds of talks, signatures, piece-missions, lego buildings crumpling to
nothing and finally the greatest and hugest, most diabolicle and uncouth
boozlle, put all efforts into sitting down with 100 percent ifficiency and
then jumping onto the wall over there, when that could have all been dealt
with in a most queezy manner by the subordinate universal plug packs to be
found almost anywhere on the planet?
I ask you fellow talk2 members, why? I can't find any solution and to stop
this sort of thing happening again, especially all over my nice wooden
floor, I ask for your advice and help at this absolutely difficult moment
of my life.
Any unusual members to be found free-floating on the ceiling are to be tied
up and left to dangle by their toes from the zanfup light fixtures as soon
as possible.

Any questions? Any answers for that matter?

Patrick Perdue happened to mention in passing:

Whassa matter, Louis. Don't want to use the all mighty Windows Vista?
Oh, but that is surely too bad, now isn't it? You know why? Because
Windows Live! messenger users will now get a free copy of Vista flashed
on
their flashable bios chips. Ya know, a cute little mini-copy that only
allows your
machine to run Windows Vista or later variants thereof, with no
backwards compatibility for XP, 2k, 98, or earlier versions of Windows
products, even under virtual machines! Any peripheral with a line-in or
other audio capture device will automatically be disabled. All high-end
sound
interfaces will become totally useless. Video capturing is out of the
question too, despite the fact that there are no such hardware
limitations.
You are only allowed to play the wave files from the default Windows
Vista sound scheme, and only
between the hours of 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday through Friday, and from
10:00 AM to 2:00 PM on Saturday. You will get no network access or
sounds on
Sunday, since this is the day of rest. You will, however, get to view
the complimentary 3d flowerbox screen saver. Non-Christian cultures will
simply have to deal, or face the
consequences.

All you need do is simply use Windows Live! messenger for a year or
more, and your bios will automatically be branded. Too bad if your
machine is incapable of actually running Vista -- you're stuck with it
after that point!

That, is a pain in the ass. Well I'm stuck then aren't I? Oh wait, Toshiba
have a lovely windows-flashable bios thingy so I'm not as stuck as all that.
Hey, what about protection for the bios? Ever thought of a V-condom, would
that do it? lol

Gotta agree with you there on that one, Windows Live is a pile of utter
shite. I wish I'd never bothered installing it on here, but lucky for me
it's just my laptop and not my primary machine.
When I built my desktop, I had kicking around on my server driver, a copy of
MSN 7.5 which promptly got installed as I like it lots better than Live.
Live can take a dive for all I care.
Contact exceleration has gone. IE, typing in a contact's name and jumping
directly to that contact. NOw you type the first couple of letters (or
more) and all it does now is to say found: XX contacts and give you a list
of those. To clear that, you use the wonderful backspace key and start from
the very damn top of your list.
Now in a way that's like the Nokia contacts editor but in a phone, I can
deal with that. Where it's a list view or whatever, it should be like it
always has been but oh no, they had to go screw that up didn't they? Yes,
they did.

The Talk2 List Microsoft outlook and OE issues

2007-03-19 Thread Onj
Hi. There's been a lot of talk on the rockbox list of late about
top-quoting. Now it seems only OE and Microsoft outlook do this by default,
and it is rather backwards and stupid.
Email clients such as The BAt! Do not do this to my knowledge, or if they
do, their owners fix this immediately.
A member of the Rockbox list posted this url which I find quite useful and
now I use it in conjunction with OE. OK so it's not the best mail client
ever, nore does it really follow lovely RFC regulations but it just about
works. Microsoft can never quite get it right can they?
Anyway, I've introduced some people to it already and they seem to like it,
so I thought I'd put it out there to talk2 members using OE and Microsoft
outlook and see what they make of it.

http://home.in.tum.de/~jain/software/oe-quotefix/

Directly from the website comes a bit about what it does and why:

OE-QuoteFix will extend the functionality of MS Outlook Express in numerous
ways! Its main purpose is to modify message composition windows on-the-fly
to allow for correct quoting and to change the appearance of your plain-text
replies and forwards in general: move your signature, use compressed
indentation, have RFC compliant signatures, etc.
But the second feature is equally practical: OE-QuoteFix can instantly color
quoted passages (according to the level of indentation), fix bad quoting and
generally beautify messages as you view them in Outlook Express.

Quoting & Formatting

If you use Outlook Express as your mail/news client and make use of
plain-text messages (which are still the way to go, especially in the
usenet), you will have noticed that OE doesn't exactly feature the most
intelligent quoting algorithm; in fact, it's the silliest one imaginable.

The following will probably look familiar... This is a simple sample text,
and as you will see, Outlook Express is going

to wrap this line. I've always hated that! And one night I said to myself,
"It can't go on like this". And so I wrote OE-QuoteFix...

So there you have it. That's a muchly cut down discription but I run it
like Bewaresntp which is sitting in task manager but with no task bar icon
and nothing in the system tray to even indicate that it is at all there.

Hope it's interesting to someone at least.

Hi Friends,

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Due to change of my internet service provider, I have been off line since 18
December.

I am now back with my first items for 2007.

I have two Nokia 6680 Smartphones in excellent condition. They are compatible
with the Talks speech software and for your convenience, I have installed the
demo which works for ten minutes before you need to turn the handset off and on
again to gain further ten minutes.

The phones are locked to Vodafone and the three network.

Although, these handsets are very powerful, they are extremely easy to use.
The keys are large and can be easily identified by a totally Blind person.

The Nokia 6680 is an imaging smartphone that's as sophisticated and successful
as you are. With two integrated digital cameras (1.3 megapixels in the back,
VGA in the front), you can conduct face-to-face video calls from your phone.

The Nokia 6680 imaging smartphone also has video sharing capability, so you can
share and view video clips in the middle of a call. Send and receive emails
and view attached files on the high-resolution, 262,144-color display. All you
have to do is pick it up, insert your SIM, and turn it on - the rest is
already inside.
