Yes, maybe so, as both you and Derek's birthdays are on Thursdays
this year. In fact, two little Thursdays in a row, in this case.

Mine is on a Thursday next year, thanks to 2008 being a leap year.
Andre
is lucky, and doesn't have to have a Thursday birthday until 2013.
Hmm, 30 on a Thursday? That might be a bad day for the bin, indeed!
Well... assuming we're still around after 2012, of course.

The Talk2 List usb sound cards

2007-07-14 Thread shaun everiss

Hi all.
This message is for newzealanders on the list, but anyone can answer.
I am searching for an external soundcard.
I want a card that can run midi, asio support, audio support.
Oh and doesn't need to have a preamp for the mic.
I have speakers for an extra card.
I want to use it for radio broadcasting and multisynths in qws eventually.
I also want to use it for voice recording.
On dancingdots I found the delta usb audio file.
However I don't really want to pay 200 us for something if I can help it.
Today I tried to source a card locally but I can't find external
cards anywhere, not in dse or harvy norman anyway.

I'd like sound font supports on this card to if I can help it.
I know there is more than one company making external cards.
I'd also like effects on the card like echo if I can get it.
Where can one get external cards that are reasonably accessable to the blind.
I would prefur getting them locally, but if not, My next choice would
to source them from australia since the dollar value is simular to ours.

If I need to get it all from the us so be it.
However I don't want to buy mixers and things just to make it run.

The Talk2 List winamp5.5

2007-10-11 Thread shaun everiss

Hi all.
Winamp 5.5 is out.
New installers and such.
Optional toolbars as well as other things.
a bad thing is that when you play mod files and xm files well at
least on my system the system will crash when you exit.

I resolved this by using the bass module plugin emulator.
But winamp has upgraded its engines and crashes if I try to use that plugin.
So I can't use it, wa!
Luckily though all the other plugins work fine.
and there is all these new things.
Unless you care to there are optional things like winamp toolbar and
winamp remote.

I'm of 2 minds to install these extra things.
I don't care for the toolbar, and I don't know what remote is.ANd its
all 6 extra mb to get, later.

h well unless I can find something other than isp mail which is free easy
to register and doesn't include varification like google and yahoo I suspect I
will not be moving.
in fact isp mail is ok just the spam filter used to be that it got to little
now its to much.
and its only list mail for me everyone is fine.
Some say I should buy a domain and get a vps and then run that.
however I don't see the point, as long as I can get my mail.
out of 126 messages overnight about 5 were spam.
its 5 to many but my isp filters block around 40 lagit messages per 5 spams.
I suppose that is standard.
I have not used gmail for ages so I suspect my gmail account has expired.
and not sure if it would work anyway.

Re: The Talk2 List back

2009-04-01 Thread shaun everiss
yeah venison.
issue I have to set it for each message.
I have just got 7 spams today, out of 200 messages.
I ccalculated that about 100 of my messages were coming to me but 40-50-90
messages say in 200-300 were never reaching their destinations.
in short I can't be bothered trying to buggerise around with the system.
Used to be bad when I got loads on loads of spam but the blacklist spamhouse
filters seem to keep it under control.
as long as I don't get more than 12 per day and not all at the same time, I
don't mind, its just when 20 or more at each check are spam that I may have to
choose to turn the filter on.
One good thing now is I can chat on agrip again, and now I won't miss a show
announcement for tbrn which I was on a regular basis.

hmmm.
I got all my info from john as I was wandering what the complicated
explaination about the issue with the archives not working with bluehost as not
much came out.
Now even I am confused here is john telling me you guys don't have the storage
here you do.
Then onj says that the pages for the archives will not come up and I took that
to be never, and the site says will be back up soon.
I am confused what it is supposed to be.
And I am not scared of complicated explainations.
I should also note that there are blogs that are not updated etc so right now
to get archives you need to know the djs msn/email and one blog and hope its
updated.
Would be nice if I could at least find the archives I want in case stuff is not

The Talk2 List maxtore drives

2009-04-16 Thread shaun everiss
Hi all.
I have just found a maxtore drie going cheap at harvy norman.
about 170 bucks for 500gb.
I know there are bad things with these drives but I don't know what.
are they prone to falier I was origionally going to go with a westerndigital
or a sigate, both because I have had a wd arc whos case has died and another
because my friend has a sigate which is real quiet almost non existant.
I need something that will store data, its going to be a secondary backup, ie
the drive will get data put on it and then after every 6 months or so I will
power it on to transfer stuff over.
I hope to replace the case on my primary western digital and run it into the
ground.
I will be a heavy user of either drive though. so they need to last a long
time.
OI don't mind if the case power supply or case controler goe but I want
something that will not easily break with switches, etc and will stand a
reasonable ammount of abuse and ware.
Ok so I am not going to drop it and I will try not to take it away with me to
much if at all, howeverI don't want it to die for no reason just like if I
pick it off the desk and say forget to switch it off or something screwy like
that not that will happen however.
I know the western digital drives will power down when not in use, so something
that will do that or is so quiet that I won't notice it running.

yeah same here.
Unfortunately I obviously just did not get time.
I woke at 4 am because well I just couldn't sleep and saw this message.
howeverAfter all the journals, podcasts, etc it was 5.
I tried to listen to the stream at that time because I knew that something was
probably going to be active.
However it was not.
I played a game for 30 minutes wich resulted in no stream.
So I went back to bed.
I have just come back from a walk now and have missed it all again.

Hi.
ok guys the archive links are a bit screwey.
Its only because listen.tbrn.net is not hidden that I was able to fix it.
http://listen.tbrn.net/BlartRadio/blart.090516.ogg
is the direct link, not www.tbrn.net/archives/BlartRadio although this should
itself work.
however the point is that this is the solution to the issue I was having.
so now steve won't have to doodle round to find what the heck is wrong with it.

The Talk2 List mashups and remixes

2009-08-09 Thread shaun everiss
Hi all.
I am bored.
and so I am combining tracks in audacity.
and making mixes.
some of which may need extra tweaking.
So far if there is an instromental, I will do it.
mostly its djtt and onj because its all remixes of things.
I am also doing ninjams and other things.
I will post the file on dropbox and send a link at the list.
Note that these are rough mixes, also, if things work out then who knows.
anyway just letting the list know.
if anyone wants me to do something special, just name a track.
Oh and everyone retains the copywrites to their tracks, I can't claim to
anything except mashing stuff up.
or rather combining them.
Some of the tracks may need chopping, lowering, etc.
some don't combine or anything at all.
usually I would be listening to tbrn shows but since the system releases 403
errors at me to get the latest files I am bored.
I will send people things when finnished.

The Talk2 List ok guys remix time

2009-08-09 Thread shaun everiss
Hi all.
ok guys.
after doodling round the folders I think I have doubled most of the tracks that
I think should sound ok doubled up.
I did imports on audacity.
anyway this 156mb file will be hitting dropbox tomorrow, I'll leave it up there
for as long as people want although I probably will have to have someone host
it if I ever need to put a big file up there.
here are the tracks.
2pac and bruce hornsby - changes (the way it is) double up mix.ogg
This has the instrumental as well as actual music, sounds ok.
though saying that people need to be the judge with this.
also there were mixes I'd like to do but for pitch changes I couldn't, also
some just didn't sound good.
Please note, that these are raw remixes.
some need to be trimmed, some need to be lowered some.

15 17 fun remix.ogg
This is part of the ninjam, if someone wants to trim the last 2 mins at the end
or something they can.
a new dimention old vs new.ogg
not sure if this really matters or not.
I was going to do that to one fine doob, put steve's version with the normal,
but I lost that file in a hard disk crash.
oh well.
another rainey rooftile.ogg
hmmm instrumentals and djtt tracks shoved together.
seems to work.
bec in a bin alternit bass mix.ogg
loads of base on this one saying that once its been done with it probably is
not going to be that much of a good thing.
bec in a disco.ogg
again more versions of the same track, sounded ok.
bec waterflow mix.ogg
this seems to have a watery effect when mixed, note I don't put effects, I mix
the music and it makes its own fx I have no control
cher believe unbidden love funk.ogg
This has a semi funk effect on it, again it came that way.
Common things on 2 solos.ogg
this actually worked well, really sounds goodl.
conference underwater mix.ogg
This does actually sound like underwater.
random fx again.
Disfunctional part 4, the double cheeseburger.ogg
this has parts1 and 3 in it, sounds like a keyboard with a big amp in it.
Reminds me of the board I used in melbourne when living there.
that thing could pump bass.
east enders chill mix.ogg
this has the origional track mix as done by onj.
the instrumental done by said person and the djtt mix.
origionally it was like just the first 2 tracks.
Eminem - I just don't give a fuck (onj vs dj tt megabass.ogg
this was the only track of this guy that actually did mix properly and sound
good.
the second one was a bit louder but not much changed.
freaky takeoff.ogg
this is all those files in one big chunk.
Unfortunately it may not be nothing or it may be everything, sounds like a
takeoff now.
Inconsequencial - big band.ogg
sounds ok, though you could argue it clashes a bit.
maybe if its edited some then it will work.
my main reason was because the ninjam version has not had drums.
Leaving full loadout.ogg
this may need actual volume adjustment but it came out just as the title said.
loquacious woodblock mix.ogg
again I have no actual control of fx.
this sounded like woodblocks or rather the drums did.
Mariah Carey - Loving you long time (TT vs Onj megablast.ogg
this has both instrumental and vocal tracks in it, its basey and sounds ok.
missing you full version.ogg
this is everything bar the vocal bits.
as they didn't start at the same time as the others.

Re: The Talk2 List remix tracks

2009-08-09 Thread shaun everiss
well I was bored to be brootally honest.
I have audacity, I just pushed stuff together because I really was bored.
Yes its rough but I really have no actual tutorials for anything or have
plugins for everything although I have most things.
I'd get soundforge but I never figured out how to use it and I never was able
to get a good registered coppy except v8 and I hardly could even use that.
even though I was told never was able to figure it out.
I got the idea by shoving files together in the actual folders, to be honest if
I had access to bits of songs and parts and bobs I'd actually try but I have no
experience at all.

The Talk2 List viruses

2009-10-14 Thread shaun everiss
Hi.
Ok, this came from onj, ok I know he has issue with spam, I only send this to
the general list to see if something can be done about it.
Its not the spam itself but now every day for the last 3 days I have been
recieving an attachment called ecard.zip which has a virus.
ofcause I get rid of it however it is continuing, I know there is a spam issue
which is not going to go away, and the fact we recieve only this message is not
cause for complaint but can something be done on all tbrn and andrelouis.com
lists where no attachments are or even html content or something?
Then we would maybe still get the spam or maybe have any messages with
attachments be removed.
this shouldn't complicate people wanting to send stuff to the list as I know
quite well that most people on here or rather a vary few have web servers or
whatever.
thanks.

well for the time being I have put up my email protection its usually not
necessary since my isp has norton and that usually works however its not
detecting the viruses, so I have put my own up as well with avg9.
this means more space used on my drive and a few more resources used but at
least nothing will sneak in here.
If it gets any worse I may have to bar all attaches which will be a hastle if
someone wants to send me things over email.
Come to think of it that hardly happens now but still.

The Talk2 List msn changes

2009-11-18 Thread shaun everiss
Hi.
noticed today when sighning into msn that I had to enter a display name as
security.
the display name box was ignored, this means that for some in poticular tbrn
will not have any issue with screen name changes.
I suspect not more than one client can sign in on an account.
The down side is that there is no way to change the name on the fly anymore.
though I don't need to use this I'd like a way to store this or have something
fill that in for me as its always going to be the same unless I change it on
next signout.
I must say this change has merrit, everything will be labeled which is good.
less spam and other things.
That they even allow my windows messenger 5.1 to connect is just cool.
If they actually decide to change that though unless I update I will probably
go offline on messengers for good unless I can get miranda working and as I
said this could be serverside and not client related.
so there is probably no reason to have anything on the display name box in
preffs anymore.

I must reluctantly aggree with simbian on that one.
yeah its simple and works but it does look like a dos program from 1996.
At any rate this wayfinder thing is supposed to go either nokia or vodaphone
internal so we have gps subsystems that come with the phone.
now as long as they use the same thing and the same data I am all for
intigration especially if it means les modules to buy.
Simbian hasn't really had any major ui upgrade so again I aggree it needs it.
hmph klango is a nice platform pitty its all net based imagine if that was on
the phone.
actually thinking on that we would probably use our credit on loads of
unnecessary things.
at least I would.

The Talk2 List a small update

2011-06-17 Thread shaun everiss

Hi.
I know that a lot of people on here follow my lj here
I think maryann, amy arfy and onj are among these.
Yesterday livejournal has decided to take their mobile site offline.
When it came back I found that all posts from the 19th of december of
last year on have not been posted.

I am totally cheesed off.
I only use this to blog about my goings on, only 1 post a week sometimes 2.
I have a couple options
wordpress at smeveriss.wordpress.com
The main site sucks but the mobile one rocks.
A better one is crashmaster.klangoblog.net which I can easily get up.
I will advise my loyal readers if any exist where I decide to put my patronage.
I am making a couple enquiries into having my blog on a couple
friend's servers.

This will give me some space maybe email posting.
I have no resources to have my own server stored locally though or a
server for the job.

The bandwidth is something I am not sure I could afford to.
So there you have it.
I have no idea if I will ever start blogging but I think klango is a
safe bet if i do.

The Talk2 List teamtalk servers

2012-02-29 Thread shaun everiss

Hi all.
Just wandered on how to set one of these up.
I plan to run a temperary service for a net radio station and for my own use.
Obviously because of bandwidth, etc it wouldn't be a perminant thing.
I have 50% of it figured out I think.
I know with no-ip I can make a domain and download an updater client
for the ip address.
I know I can with the teamtalk install and uninstall scripts I cann
remove and add the server with ease.

I have a few questions though.
1. if I put no ip to be bound to when the wizzard asks me will it
log to my own ip in the box or just localhost.
If it locks to the current ip and thats bound to a no-ip domain by
typing that in teamtalk can I then connect to that.

What security things do I need to do to allow this to happen.
Do I need to foreward the tcp and udp ports I plan to use for the
incomming and outgoing connection.

I have always been able to out go to ports with out any issue.
But here is the problem.
I would prefur not to open ports.
Even though hackers can't actually see the network due to no sharing,
I really don't want to have to fiddle with routers each time, as I
don't want to have the server online 24-7.

What do I need to adjust for security, etc.
I guess I can turn off shares though if thats needed, well.I guess I
could pasword protect the servers, but hmmm the other one was public.

At least the other one i used was public access for standard users.
What is the best platform to run the server on.
My portable can run it, on wireless or cable but going back and
foreward may be a problem, since if I need to kill wireless to
switch to network or something funky happens with it thats it, it goes.

I have a couple options.
the first like mine on xp pro is a desktop with almost the same specs.
Its my dad's work box and can stay on for the day or however long I
need it for.
The other is my brothers i3, but that has win7 and I have no idea
about security for that to run teamtalk and stuff on it, and since he
uses it for everything under the sun I'd prefur not to use it, but whatever.

I am trying to find out how feasable it is to run a server here.
I know the duc and the server clients take up once I have running 14
mb, with the client takes up about 5% cpu and 12 mb making for a
total of 26mb, which all systems will take.

once the server is running do I need mics, connected to the box it runs on.
when the server connects is it connecting to my system or just the
server and do I need a password and username for my system in order
to connect to the server.
it all looks straight foreward, and resource use is low, what is
bandwidth usage like I wander.

if you use audio a lone on highest codec do you use that much?
I need to know the running costs of such a server.

talk2 has almost 0 traphic dustin.
There is just no real descussion on this list no more.

When going through some old e-mail, I realize that I've stopped
receiving regular Novell training updates. This makes me sad. I was
originally NCNA certified almost exactly ten years ago, and now it's
the end of an era. I can't forward those messages to talk2 anymore
for no one to care about. This makes me a very sad person, and a
very redundant one, since I've already mentioned this once before.

Well as to vista I think it will own. Yes I am sighted and that is why I am
saying it. Vista was designed for the sighted user with things such as
window previews 3D rotation and sidebars as well as the new colour scheme.
So with all that vista will own in my opinion. But as to other aspects other

2006-06-07 Thread shaun everiss

Hi all.
How do I connect to fx radio with winamp?
I enter in http://tbrn.net:/fx.aac
in the winamp url box and push enter I then get a connecting message
and seconds later that winamp has stopped.

I have v 5.22 I can connect to all other automated streems.

I don't give a frag about the library.
It does now seem to sometimes like to skip small wav files or not

I still like winamp though, its not as bad as real or windowsmedia.
another thing that really pisses me off is how when it starts if a

With no explaination.

Hi,

Someone from microsoft has figured out why model talker will not
work with jaws and window eyes and other sapi5 applications! The
reason is a dll is not registered in the c:\windows\system32\
folder or directory. Once you register this dll you may use model
talker with jaws, window eyes, and any other sapi5 application
available that sees it. Any voices you create with the InvTool
program will instantly show up in the list of available voices once
you are done creating the voice. There are jaws scripts for the
Invtool program to help people use it a little better. I have them
if anyone wants them. If someone would be willing to make
window-eyes set files that'd be great!
Here are the directions for registering the dll. Please review each
direction and or command carefully with your screen reader's review commands.

1. go to start menu and then to run.
2. in the run dialog box type:
cmd
and press enter. alternatively, go to your windows 95/98/2000/me/xp
command prompt.

3. at the command prompt type:
cd\windows\system32\
4. after each command at the command prompt you must press enter
for the command to be executed.

5. you should now hear or see c:\windows\system32\>
6. now type:
regsvr32 mtttseng.dll
press enter and a dialog will come up saying that the dll is registered.
press enter on ok and you're back at the command prompt.
now type exit and you're back in regular windows.
Now go ahead and see if model talker works with your screen reader!
Again, any voices you create will instantly show up in the list of
model talker voices. have fun and hopefully we'll have some new
screen reader voices to pass around on or off list to each other soon!

Hmm reminds me of the vogons in hhtgg.

because more paperwork.

Oh man, you mean even the universe itself is subjected to corporate
down-sizing? What did Pluto ever do to deserve this kind of treatment,
other than just kind of hanging out, being really cold and not doing
terribly much of anything? Or was that the universe's problem? No
productivity? In that case, we should just get rid of most of the other
planets too, with the exception of Jupiter (it's got volcanoes or
something like that), Mars (for looking potentially interesting),
and us. Well, we're

all going to die in 2012 anyway, so I think that's been answered.
I guess they just want to get rid of everything else first, so no one
will take notice when Earth suddenly disappears from the by then empty
list of planets in the solar system of doom.
It will save the universe loads of money if we go away, after all.

I think we'd better make a patition to send to... uhm... God? Er,
whoever happens to be in charge of this, and put it to rights. If
someone can pass a patition on how the moon is evil and should be blown
up, then this should be a simple matter to deal with, I should think.

Yep, that's right, six years. Get drunk and party, for after 2012, there
will be nothing left... No trace of humanity... The proverbial "good
boof", if you will.
The ultimate Tango Uniform. The final 73... Oh yeah!

note takers are good if you want to do sertain things.
However codefact.com has software that will allow you to use a
standard handheld pocket pc and pocket hal is around also.

Those note takers do have their place, but yeah I can do more on this laptop.

Re: The Talk2 List Eudora to go open source

2006-10-11 Thread shaun everiss

I must say that this is a shock to me.
However, I've always liked eudora for what it is.
And as long as it keeps being as accessible as it is, I'm going for it.
Thanks for this article.
I have only legally used th lite version.
Its going to be cool now eudora is going opensource though.
This does mean ofcause that it could become inaccessible, but
depending on the licences envolved we could make our own distribution.

At 03:45 p.m. 12/10/2006, you wrote:
Anyone who doesn't want to pay for The Bat! Or stick with Microsoft

Qualcomm on Wednesday joined up with the Mozilla Foundation to
announce it is transitioning

Eudora
into an open source e-mail client that will be based upon
Thunderbird
. In turn, all future versions of Eudora will be free and Qualcomm
will discontinue

the current paid client.
Although it may seem like Eudora is simply abandoning its e-mail
software, which
has a small but strong following of loyal users, the company claims
the Thunderbird-based
client will retain "Eudora's uniquely rich feature set and
productivity enhancements."
The first release of the open source client is expected in early
2007, at which
point Eudora will cease selling the product commercially. In the
meantime, Eudora
will be priced at $19.95 USD and come with three incidents of
support in a six month
period. Until today, Qualcomm sold Eudora versions for a suggested
retail price of

as high as $49.95 USD.
Current Eudora users can choose to keep running the ad-supported
version indefinitely
after upgrading to version 7.1 for Windows and 6.2.4 for Mac OS X,
released last
week but announced only today. Qualcomm says it will stop displaying
advertisements

in the client sometime early next year.
"Qualcomm has decided not to remain in the email market because it
is not in alignment
with the core business or strategic goals," the company said. "By
moving Eudora to
an open source product, Qualcomm can exit the Eudora business while
still supporting
Eudora users and advancing the Eudora e-mail client at a faster pace
than before,

through the power of the open source development community."
"We're pleased to welcome Eudora and its millions of users to the
world of open source,"
said Frank Hecker, executive director of the Mozilla Foundation.
"This effort should
further enrich the Thunderbird technology platform and provide users
of both products

with an even richer email experience."
In recent months, reviewers continued to give Eudora the performance
edge for use
with enterprise e-mail, compared against Thunderbird (though not
against Microsoft
Outlook). However, in practice, some have noted Eudora has suffered
limited performance

problems with recent versions,
prompting in at least one case
suggestions that users (in this case, students) try Thunderbird instead.
