Address book multiple recipients

2004-02-29 Thread jwayne
How exactly is the email addresses used in the general tab of an address? If
I select a Group, can this be used for all the recipients, or does there have to
be a separate contact entry for each recipient?

Secondly, what is the format for entering multiple address in this field?
Comma-delineated, separate line for each?

Finally, what are the secondary addresses referred to in the Other tab?

(As usual, Help _should_ have covered these basic questions...)

BTW, if I receive an email with lots of names in the CC field (because the sender
foolishly didn't use BCC), and go to add all names to my address book, then
decide to cancel, I have to hit cancel for each name. Cancel should cancel the
operation; there should be a Skip button to bypass adding the current address.
Should I submit as a bug or a feature request?

Thanks.

There has to be a separate contact for each. Usually it's only the
first address that's used.

For each address entry properties, there's an option under the 'Other'
tab, 'Automatically add secondary addresses to the BCC field'. I'm
not sure how this option works when sending group mail.

J Secondly, what is the format for entering multiple address in this field?

Use a separate line for each.

J Finally, what are the secondary addresses referred to in the Other tab?

The other addresses apart from the first listed in the 'email
address(es)' field of the entry properties.

True.

I don't consider the current behaviour buggy since you may wish to add
only some of the addresses from the CC header. You can prevent the
addition of the others by cancelling and ok'ing as you go along.

You've unsurfaced a limitation and a wish to have a 'skip', 'skip all'
type of system is better. It's more functional and even moreso, it's
pretty standard functionality in such settings.

For each CC address you'll have [OK] [Skip] [Skip all]

I just checked and the tab order seems to be more or less the same in
1.63 beta 7 and 1.53t. The major difference at first glance is that
the initial tab placement is different - it's in the search box in the
beta and in the address book selector in the earlier release. But in
either case pressing the tab key once gets me to the contact list.

Past that point the tab order is a bit non-intuitive in either version.

AM Not that I can think of. :/ I'm wondering why simply arrowing down the

AM unwanted software interaction.

You must be right, but i've never seen it before. Very odd.

AM Do you have any macro creating software installed? Do you have any
AM keyboard macros created?

Nope, not a single one -- there could theoretically be a conflict
between the screen reader and TB -- that would seem to be the case,
but I can't see where that conflict would exist. Shft-enter is easier
anyway, so I'll stick with that.

SMS In addition, none of the buttons read with the screen reader, so
SMS I'm not sure what they are.

AM The buttons that are on the divider between the address list on the left
AM and the list of addresses to be placed in the To field on the right, are
AM controls to do what you wish to do, i.e., to add addresses to the To
AM list or remove them, add all addresses or remove all addresses.

I can try to label them with the screen reader -- the buttons in the
add/remove message columns screen behaves the
same way meaning they don't speak their function when selected with
the screen reader. In that case, I pressed them, one by one, to try
and figure out what they actually do :). One thing about trial and
error, it often leads to the best solution.

AM By the
AM way, the list on the right is tabbed. The one in focus by default is the
AM To list. But there are also tabs there for CC and BCC. Are you able to
AM 'see' those?

Yep, those work perfectly. THey are classed as a property sheet
which the screen reader can deal with perfectly. I can either hit
ctrl-tab to cycle between the tabs, or right arrow.

You could try the address auto-complete.

To be sure that this is working, go to the Options menu and select
Preferences. Hit the System tab in the preferences configuration panel.
At the top there's the AutoComplete. You can set it to All Address Books
or History + Address Book.

After creating a new message:

In the To: field, just type the first few characters of the address and
wait for the autocompletion. If the autocompleted address isn't correct,
hit CTRL+= and CTRL+- to toggle the various possibilites. When the
correct one is chosen, hit the right arrow, then type a comma and a
space, then go again with the next address..

I do this for two to three addresses. I don't do it with more since this
method is problematic when adding addresses to the point where the
addresses go beyond the limit of the To: field. The line will not scroll
to the left automatically so you can't tell what's happening.

SMS Any help greatly appreciated.

I hope this helps.

SMS looking at is on the right or left. I'll have someone take a look
SMS at the monitor and will get back to you on that. For now, let's
SMS assume you're right.

Ok.

AM Hmmm. This shouldn't be the case. I don't see that here.

SMS Essentially, if I hit my down arrow and then tab to OK, all the
SMS addresses my arrow passed over get inserted into the to: field.

This would imply that the addresses *are* being selected as your screen
reader says they are since OK does lead to the selected messages being
added to the To list.

The address book picker should also close when you hit OK. Does it?

AM Hitting arrow down just changes the address selected down the list.

SMS Is there somesort of default I may have somehow inadvertently changed?

Not that I can think of. :/ I'm wondering why simply arrowing down the
list would lead to addresses being selected. This could be the result of
unwanted software interaction.

SMS That box, assuming it's the other one I eventually tab to never gets
SMS filled in. From what you're describing though, the address picker
SMS isn't working the way it's supposed to.

Hmmm. Yes. It would seem that there's a problem with your navigation
system. I've tried to duplicate what you're seeing but can't.

Do you have any macro creating software installed? Do you have any
keyboard macros created?

SMS In addition, none of the buttons read with the screen reader, so
SMS I'm not sure what they are.

The buttons that are on the divider between the address list on the left
and the list of addresses to be placed in the To field on the right, are
controls to do what you wish to do, i.e., to add addresses to the To
list or remove them, add all addresses or remove all addresses. By the
way, the list on the right is tabbed. The one in focus by default is the
To list. But there are also tabs there for CC and BCC. Are you able to
'see' those?

SMS I'd love to join, but have no idea how.

You could join by sending a message using this URL:

mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]

SMS I've also heard mention of a wish list, but don't know how to
SMS contribute to that either.

You could do that through bugtraq. It's used mainly for bug reporting
but there's a place there for posting wishes.

https://www.ritlabs.com/bt/

SMS I purchased the bat on Monday and received my registration info
SMS today. I'm not sure if, with this info, I am now able to contribute
SMS to the wish list?

Of course you can. :) You'd make an important resource too, especially
if you have the time. You could be the one to help the developers make
the program more friendly to its blind users.

AM You could try the address auto-complete.

SMS That seems to work, however, when I hit , 'comma' and then begin
SMS typing the next address, the first reverts back to the portion I had
SMS typed. I'm probably doing this wrong, so will go back and check.

After the first successful auto-completion, hit right arrow to deselect
the auto-completed portion of the address.. Only then, do you hit the
comma and space.

AM I do this for two to three addresses. I don't do it with more since this
AM method is problematic when adding addresses to the point where the
AM addresses go beyond the limit of the To: field. The line will not scroll
AM to the left automatically so you can't tell what's happening.

SMS I wonder if that's being addressed in the beta? I could definitely
SMS see where that would be problematic.

Unfortunately the problem is still there in the current beta.

You know what? If I hit shft-enter, everything works fine meaning, I
can select addresses with the spacebar. Only when
I attempt to click the icon do things act screwy. Not sure why
shft-enter works with the screen reader, but the important thing is
that it does!!! BTW, I still can't figure out which button is which,

When you are sending a message, when composing it in the message

the To, CC and BCC fields and you will see the complete list of
addresses you have already included.

CL i don't understand it, looks like gibberish to me; i assume it says
CL 'filter only if you see [EMAIL PROTECTED] alone'. whatever, its good

I'm glad it works for you. It works like this:

^ - Start at the beginning of each line.

To\:- Look for the word To followed by a colon

[^@\n]* - Find any number of any character other than the @ symbol or
a line break. This is because if you had another address,
it would have an @ symbol in it. So if there is no other @
symbol, there is only one address.

[EMAIL PROTECTED] - The address you want.

[^@\n]* - Same as above.

$ - Keep going until the end of the line.

Hello,

i have a few 'sent messages' filters set up. However it is difficult

Is it possible to override that, and just have it go to the main

You can try changing the filters to be slightly more specific. I'm
assuming a given filter has the form:

String LocationPresence
[EMAIL PROTECTED] Recipient Yes

You could try:

String Location Presence
^To\:[^@\n]*[EMAIL PROTECTED][^@\n]*$Kludges Yes

And enable Regular Expressions under the Options Tab.

Add multiple recipients to address book

2000-07-23 Thread David Buntenbroich

Hi,

i just started using The Bat some days ago and I really like all the
features. (I changed from Outlook Express when I had to realize that
version 5.5 still made no improvements on all kinds of missing
functions.) Since I am still learning, the question I am going to ask
might have an easy workaround and it might have not. (First I was
also going to ask how to move folders, because without knowledge of
having to press the CTRL+ALT keys while moving it, I had to create new
folders, move the messages and delete the old folders...:-( )

Well, now my question: When I have multiple recipients and I want to
add one, some or all of them to the adress book, I end up having one
single entry with all their names as one name and the first e-mail
address as the e-mail address (using Specials/Add Recipients to Adress
Book). The only workaround I could find was to create new entries in
the address book manually and use copy and paste :-(
Is there any other (easier) way? (I couldn't find anything in the
FAQs.)

Greetings from Cologne, Germany,

David
