Over the past few days I've been going through the install and
configure steps with PostgreSQL 8.3 and so far, so good - I used
Vandelay to import a set of records successfully and can retrieve them
via the staff client. Lots more to test out, of course, but just

I would _swear_ there used to be a db_port option in marc2bre.pl, but
I'll remove it from import_bibs.sh. That'll fix up your problem (and
the problem of anyone else running the import demo).
I swore in vain - it was never there. I have now added
update the import demo README with some words about
loading sample_marc.sql and friends directly on the database server.
I've also updated the tarball for the import demo with the new
versions of all the files.
