Looks - everyone says the cabrio-6 looks better than the coupe. I tend to disagree, but then I'm not really a cabrio fan. I would have taken a black 6 coupe anyday over the champagne 6 convertible we had. That said, I think the 6 with the roof up is the best looking convertible I've ever seen, period. Incidentally, there was a SL500 parked right next to our 645 at the cafe where we had lunch. Having them both side by side, I see how some people can say the 6 lacks some of the drama and impact of the SL, but I guess different strokes for different folks. The 6 looks unique, even if there's a bit of weirdo styling on it. The SL looks, well, nice. Like a cup of tea - drink it and move on. iDrive - didn't really have time to fiddle with it this time, I've played with it on another 645Ci at a dealership before and I was impressed with the TV and sound system. This time, the only things I used were the climate control, stereo and the DSC and Sport buttons. Didn't feel any need to touch the iDrive controller at any point, though when the PDC activated while going in reverse and the picture of the car appeared on the iDrive screen, I thought it was a great touch. The rest is pure BMW at its best, the engine would purr sweetly at low revs but more than happy to spin to 6500 RPM when pushed. The soundtrack is amazing, especially under bridges and in built up areas. The auto gearbox reacted quickly and smoothly, I came away impressed - and I'm a die-hard manual shifter! Don't know why people keep going on about the harsh ride either - it was nice and supple, and our car had sport package and the run-flat tires. My only gripe, as with most other new BMWs is that the steering and the brakes felt overassisted and it was hard to get much feedback out of them. Maybe when you push to the limit you get more, but stepping back into my E36 the difference was like day and night. In the 6 you step on the brakes and you just feel the g-forces building up. In my E36, it's like I'm dragging my foot over the pavement kind of thing... I know how much grip I have left before the ABS takes over. Verdict: don't judge it before test driving one. Available Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> I recently found an E30 convertible in a junkyard with an odometer that indicated 13,xxx miles! The front seats were nearly perfect black leather heated sports seats (now mine, not for sale). The rear seat is a twin bucket style. They appear to be too narrow for a regular 325i. Seems to me that I have seen this style seat in an E30 M3, though?? Anyway, the lower section was in excellent shape. The upper section must have received too much sun, as it was dried and split along two seams. The owner had put black tape on the splits. I am not sure what it would take to repair the splits. I hate to see this rare rear seat waste away, so if anyone is interested in it, please e-mail me directly. The seat is not real nearby, and I have no idea what it will cost. So, tell me what it is worth to you and I'll look into it. The seat is located in New England. I do not have time to monitor this list at the moment, so be sure to e-mail me directly. Just posting this to follow up on all the offers of assistance I received. The subscribers to these boards might have as much collective knowledge about Windows hacks as about BMW serviceing. I'm trying to setup a WinServer2003 test system so I can demo and work on these issues at home rather than needing to be on the customer's systems. Therefore, could someone please send me a valid 25 digit product acivation key for Windows Server 2003, build #3790. The serial number generator I have isn't working for this build. If you disagree with sharing MS serial numbers, you can choose to pay for your copy of the ETK and all your music downloads too, please let's not have a thread about it. Here's the basic fix: From Windows XP, set the remote desktop client, mstsc.exe, to Compatibility Mode. Any mode other than XP. This will get you out of the local XP machine when you try to RPD to localhost:port# From the Windows Server 2003 terminal server, you overcome the licensing protocol error message by setting the licensing mode to Per User. A known bug that MS is not doing anything about for now is that when Add/Remove Programs is started, the mode reverts to Per Machine. Many niggling licensing error messages are the result of this bug. The final problem of this overdue project is due to another known bug, That problem is that if a link (http://www.whatever.com) is started from the command line via a START command, and you have not set Internet Explorer to be default browser, a file can not be found message box will appear. This box requires a manually entered carriage return or mouse click, thus stopping any script or batch file dead in its tracks. The user agent switcher in Mozilla doesn't overcome the problem. So I'm looking for a way to force a batch to continue to the next step instead of waiting for the error box to be cleared. This happens with START despite _not using the /W flag. Thet give a better idea of a high performance oil vs. a fuel economy oil. In Mobil 1, only the 0W-40 and 15W-50 meed ACEA A3. Also, there are certain MB and Porsche requirements. I recommend Mobil 1 0W-40 for nearly everything except high performance engines with large clearances, then 15W-50 is better. Other oils are excellent also. For an old clumker use diesel oil such as Shell Rotella or Mobil Delvac. Here is some detail: A2-96 Issue 3 Standard gasoline category. For operation with normal change intervals and loads, requirements unchanged since 1996. A3-02 Stable viscosity (stay in grade) category with stricter requirements. For high-power engines with long oil change intervals approved by the manufacturer. A1-02 Energy-saving, catalyzer-friendly category with stricter requirements. Developed especially for low-friction engines, low viscosity (2.9 mPas < HTHS < 3.5 mPas) engine oil. Not for use with certain engine types. A4 -xx Category to be introduced for gasoline direct injection Otto engines with lean-mixture operating capability. A5-02 Energy-saving, stable viscosity (stay in grade) category with stricter requirements. Developed especially for high specific power engines operating with low friction, low viscosity (2.9 mPas < HTHS < 3.5 mPas) engine oil.
