Actually, not long after sending my previous message and a few more

Sounds like TB! is stuck in the download process.
It downloads all the messages without a problem and the connection
centre disappears as expected.

This may be secondary to an antivirus or some other proxy or plugin to
screen mail for baddies. Anything like that in the mix? If so, disable
them and try again.
They do have the AVG plug-in. I'll try disabling that temporarily and

TB! Freezing after downloading mail

2005-01-23 Thread Chris Weaven
Hi all,
My parents are running TB! on their machine, but since the install, it
has been acting strange.

After downloading mail, TB! won't response to mouse clicks at all. When
trying to open a message, nothing happens. This is the same when trying
to access the menu's. I then try to click on the 'X' to close the
program, and even that doesn't work. The funny thing is, the animated
icon works throughout.

The only way we can open messages, is to close TB! using the right click
option on the animated icon is the system tray and selecting 'Exit'. On
re-opening TB!, we can then read the messages.

I've never experienced this before and was wondering if anyone can help
with this strange behaviour.

FYI - Win XP Pro SP2 on PIII 750MHz.

I tried Thunderbird for about two months. I am back to the bat.
Great program.
I must confess, I've been using Thunderbird for about 2-3 months now.
The main reason for this is that I personally find IMAP support better
in Thunderbird right now than in TB! I understand that IMAP is being
worked on for this beta, but until I can carry out the basics such as
reading mail, I'm happy using Thunderbird.

Obviously I miss lots of features within TB!, especially templates and
certain aspects of filtering, but I'm able to carry out server side
filtering which has cushioned the blow somewhat.

But fingers crossed, IMAP improves soon :-)

Mail created date time

2005-01-20 Thread Chris Weaven
Hi all,
I've a question regarding the 'Created Date Time' within emails.
I receive periodic emails from one of my bank accounts and when they
come through, there is no created date or time in them.

I sort my mail by created date, but because these mails don't have a
created date, they're not sorted correctly.

I've approached the organisation in question and they assure me that the
date is included in all their outgoing mail.

So why do I not receive it and why is it only from this one location?
I've attached a screen print (it's in Thunderbird, but it's the same
with TB!) for people to see.

I've tried comparing headers and all I can see that is different, is
after the 'Subject' header, there is no 'Date' header. Could this be
what is missing?

Flying bat Animation

Hi all,

I'd like to have the option on a per folder basis where I can set if the
system tray icon animates when the selected folder/s has the option

guess.

This will come in handy if server side filtering is carried out and I
only want to see TB! flapping when new mail has been received into
certain folders rather than any unread mail anywhere.

Does that make sense and is it possible?

Go to options on that filter and check to see if the 2nd box down is

POP3 to IMAP

2004-11-22 Thread Chris Weaven
Hi all,

I apologise if this has been asked multiple times before, but I'm after
some assistance to what is hopefully quite a straight forward question!?

I've decided to convert one of my accounts from POP3 to IMAP as my
server supports both protocols.

The account in question currently has about 30 folders with multiple
filters in place to move messages to these folders.

To cut a long story short, basically I'd like to 'simply' keep
everything intact as it is, but change the account to IMAP rather than
POP3.

Is this at all possible, or is it a case of having to re-create the
account in IMAP and then copy the folders, messages and filters over?

Something that has really bugged me, yet I keep forgetting to mention,
is the displaying of attachments in the folder view of IMAP accounts.

I have my 'Inbox' set to full sync all messages. But, I don't get to see
if they have any attachments until I click on the message and the
paperclip icon appears.

I know 9 times out of ten you can work it out by the message size, but
I'd like to see the paperclip icon appear on downloading the message.

Have I missed something within TB!, or is this all part of IMAP in
general?

I'm using the KAV plug-in with TB! V3 at home, but not here at work.

I currently have two KAV plug-ins running;

1. Installed an old version of TB! (V2.11 I think) and upgraded to V3
2. Installed the beta plug-in

The old version of TB! and the V3 upgrade 'appears' to work better, as
you can actually see the number of AV definitions and it registers as
'Ok'.

The beta plug-in is working, but the status is 'unknown'.

I prefer the old version with the upgrade, but either way, it works here
:-)

Bayes***** Plug-In.

2004-08-12 Thread Chris Weaven
Hi all,

After a few problems with the Bayesit plug-in, I went over to SpamPal as
my spam filter.

The reason why I left Bayesit in the first place, was that as I was
testing betas etc, Bayesit would no longer catch any mail!? It was like
it was losing it's database.

Did anyone else experience this?

SpamPal has been working well, but as I use TLS, I also have to use
Stunnel with SpamPal, which isn't ideal.

Therefore I'm thinking of making a return to a plug-in and notice
there's two out there now!

Bayesfilter Bayesit!

Which one do most people here use?

I'm just after something reliable and that works effectively and if all
else fails, I'll return to SpamPal.

FYI - I've just over 800 mails that I can train them with, so that
shouldn't be a problem. :-)

Hmm, I've just been playing with them both to see how they work and
using my test base, they seem pretty similar in the outcome.

Now, I've just had a thought and not sure if this is a good idea or not.

Can I run them both at the same time?

The reason I ask is that TB! gives you the option to install more than
one plug-in, so why not try it?

If this is possible, how can you tell which plug-in is actually scanning
the mail or if they both are?

IMAP Mail Not Loading.

2004-08-10 Thread Chris Weaven

Ok, this has been happening for a while now and thought it was about
time I asked for help.

Sometimes when I double click a mail to open it, it opens as an empty

created line that is rubbish and nothing else (see attached).

Whereas, I should get a mail with content and have quite a few headers

Why is this happening?

I'm just glad I'm running a mirrored version in POP3, else I would've
received quite a few mails by now that I'd never be able to read!?

NOD32 Plug-In Beta.

2004-08-09 Thread Chris Weaven
Hi all,

Unfortunately I'm having major problems with the Kaspersky plug-in and
TB!, which in a nutshell means, my incoming mail is unscanned at client
level.

Therefore, I'm having to assess the options.

NOD32 is up there on my list of alternatives, as long as there is a TB!
plug-in and that it works. The reason I require a plug-in is because my
mail is received via TLS and I am led to believe proxy scanners such as
IMON d are unable to scan these types of messages. Plus I like the way
plug-ins work.

The last I read was that it was at beta stage. Has it got any further
than this?

Is it working 100%?

About 30 mins ago, I created a few virtual folders and then put them
within a folder to keep it tidy, but the parent folder count of the
virtual folders doesn't actually do anything when the virtual folders
under it change. :-(

This is a shame, and would be a nice feature IMHO! :D

Therefore, it get my vote! :-)

IMAP SpamPal.

2004-07-15 Thread Chris Weaven
Hi all,

I installed SpamPal yesterday as an alternative to bayesit.

It's working fine after a few tweaks, but I'm still having a problem
with IMAP.

As I use a TLS connection, I'm having to also use stunnel aswell as
SpamPal to connect, but after some time, I hear the error noise and a
message stating Server Closed Connection. This has never previously
happened prior to SpamPal.

Has anyone here successfully set-up SpamPal with Stunnel using TLS
without having these, what appear to be, timeout problems?

It's not major, as I can re-connect straight after, it's more of an
annoyance.

CMG Does your connection improve if you use another mailserver (like
CMG imap.anotherprovider.tld)?

I only have 1 IMAP account that I can connect to, so I'm kinda limited
with my options on this count.

I've just tried an alternative here tonight aswell;

1. I tried connecting to my IMAP server straight through SpamPal with no
TLS and therefore no stunnel.

This again causes a the disconnection.

Also, on closer inspection of the mail headers (F9), I notice that the
SpamPal headers are not added!?

Is this correct with IMAP, as all my mail through POP has both the
SpamPal and the baysian (SpamPal plug-in) headers added!?

Running 3rd Party Software with TB!

2004-07-14 Thread Chris Weaven
Hello users,

I'm just wondering if this it at all possible?

When I open TB!, can I also trigger a 3rd party program to run at the
same time (maybe via a script or something)?

For example, I would only like to run a proxy anti-spam program when I
open TB!

What would be even better, is being able to close a program at the same
time as TB!, or am I just asking too much now!? ;-)

As soon as I sent this message, something dropped and I realised the

My guess, is having another button within PowerPro to close down TB! and

So if anyone could come up with something between now and then, that

Which Anti-Spam (other than bayesit).

2004-07-13 Thread Chris Weaven
Hi fellow users,

I've been using the bayesit plug-in for quite a few months now and it
was seamless. But, things aren't so effective now and I've decided to
potentially look elsewhere for my anti-spam solution.

Programs I've looked at so far include (in not particular order);

1 - K9
2 - Mailwasher
3 - POPFile
4 - SpamAssassin
5 - SpamBayes

I've seem most of them mentioned on here at various times and was after
some user comments on how effective they are and how they perform/work.

My requirements are as follows;

1 - Ideally, I'd like a plug-in as it's one less program to run, but this
doesn't seem to be the case
2 - I'd like it to mark somewhere that the mail is suspected as SPAM so
I can use TB! filtering to move the message
3 - Must support TLS connections
4 - Must be free :D

Just as an additional though, I assume IMAP support is possible aswell?

I've over 700 items of spam to train it with and plenty of good mail, so
that shouldn't be an issue.

Any other comments/feedback would be greatly received!(y)

Umm, another added program and another potential loop for error.
