Well, Kurt,
I winter in Mesquite. No more snow shoveling for me!
One thing we learned about using synthetic oils with aircraft that sit idle
for extended periods, is that it is not as tenacious as conventional oils
at remaining on camshafts and such. I adapted semi- synthetics for that
reason.
While Hoffman has a calendar limit, I have gone by the H36 manual's
limitations section, which does not specify mandatory limits on the prop.
Hence, I have been signing off my Dimona's annual for about 20 years
without overhauling the prop. That is my story and I will stick with it!

High rpm could erode the Hoffman's leading edges, so I reduced rpm as low

Jarek,
I have just used engine oil for the last 15 years.
One observation. As the magneto is direct drive it fires twice as
frequently as usual on a Lycoming. My first mag was tired at 250 hours,
rather than the prescribed 500 hour inspection, so I suggest doing the
inspections every 250 hours.
In the States, dashpot oil is readily available from vintage British car
parts suppliers such as Moss Motors for $10-12 for a squeeze bottle.
Claimed to have appropriate preservatives and conditioners. As little as is
consumed, I have found no incentive to look for alternatives.
On Thu, Oct 18,
In my case, when on the ground before takeoff, I start with flat pitch at
1500 rpm, A fairly easy pull of an inch or so drops the rpm to 1200. A
second more aggressive pull returns the rpm to 1500 rpm. I have noted
over the last fifteen years that in flight the required force has

There are snap rings retaining the bearings that will require removal of
everything as an assembly.

Guy,
You will need to remove the brake assembly/spacer etc to remove the wheel
and tire and to replace or service
Yes, those will have to come out eventually. I would just loosen them
until you get the axle out. I did find during reinstallation that if I
tightened them before everything else was assembled, that the axle would
bind at insertion. If anyone else has done brake and tire work on the
aircraft
. I should get out the parts book to refine my terminology.

A revisionist thought. If the axle is truly seized, it is likely to be
seized on the the sleeve/carrier assembly for the brake caliper as well as
the opposing bearing carrier tube. It may be best to leave it unloosened

Ian,
I put N191BZ on wheel dollies that I fabricated with small casters (they
have an overhanging lip that flips down as the mains roll on, and I use a
1/4 rod that slides in to act as a stop). The mains roll on fine, and I
lift the tail with a loop strap (so I don't have to bend over and
consuming time trouble-shooting. (Common contemporary airline
practice now is to not reset a breaker that has popped. There is risk of
starting an electrical fire.)

the cushion that I needed today.

in taupe shades. Does anyone
know how this finish was applied at the factory and if there is a known way
to duplicate it?

My friend's H-36 (here in the states) was retrofit with factory canopy
lifts from a later series Dimona. I have not retrofit my H-36 (N191BZ) at
this time. I believe the work was done by Pacific Aerosport LLC
