[hlds] Forcing Client Reconnect 6 Team Fortress 2

2010-07-09 Thread James Hargrove
Hello all, I've been running a Team Fortress 2 server for a little over a year
now, and I hadn't been having problems up until recently. Forcing Client
Reconnect 6 keeps appearing on my server Console. And I Keep getting reports
that right after people download my server's necessary files they either get a
black screen or they get disconnected shortly after the download finishes. But
what's odd is some people have no problems whatsoever joining my server. What
do you guys think?
Also, any help is greatly appreciated,
Thanks

[hlds] Bug with bots and attack/defense respawn times

2010-07-09 Thread Nephyrin Zey
I first noticed this way back when bots were originally added, but it
is still present: If a bot is the first person to join a team (or
*possibly* other situations involving bots), the minimum respawn time
used by the default spawn algorithm (no addons) will be the same as
mp_respawnwavetime.

Example: With no addons loaded:
- Fire up cp_dustbowl,
- Type mp_showrespawntimes. It should say 2.00 for blue and 10.00 for red,
- tf_bot_quota 10
- Still 2.00/10.00
- changelevel cp_dustbowl
- mp_respawntimes
- It is now 10.0 and 10.0

I notced this issue way back when we had one token bot in the server
(named Brutus, and much beloved). Almost immediately after adding him
people complained about long respawn times. I removed him and the
problem resolved. Then, just the other day, I set tf_bot_quota_mode to
fill, tf_bot_quota to 4. The idea was to give the first few joiners
something to shoot at. Instead, i got something like six complaints
within a few hours of the servers filling of the nearly tripled blue
respawn times. T_T

Re: [hlds] Bug with bots and attack/defense respawn times

2010-07-09 Thread Nephyrin Zey
Actually, after a little more testing, the bot has to be first in the
server, not on a team. If a player joins before any bots, the bug does
not occur, so you need tf_bot_join_after_player set to 0.

Re: [hlds] Bug with bots and attack/defense respawn times

2010-07-09 Thread 1nsane
I can confirm this issue.

I also reported this some 10 days ago on the list and over a month ago on
the steam forums.
http://www.google.com/search?q=TF2%3A+Slow+respawn+caused+by+tf_bot_join_after_player+0ie=utf-8oe=utf-8aq=trls=org.mozilla:en-US:officialclient=firefox-a

Also, tf_bot_join_after_player 1 might not always work to fix this. As it
might still mess up after a map load because then it will trigger right away
anyway. We had to hook ActivePlayers in order to fix this.

Re: [hlds] Forcing Client Reconnect 6 Team Fortress 2

2010-07-09 Thread James Hargrove
Alright, now I got that fixed. It turned out it was a SourceMod plugins that
kicks people if they have over a certain ping. I updated SourceMod and it's
working fine now. Except my server keeps randomly crashing now. It's
happened 3 times since 8:30EST this morning. But the error is something
about a memory bits being misplaced. Which is odd.

Re: [hlds] Team Fortress 2 Update Available

2010-07-09 Thread Robert Whelan
Hey Jason/Valve,

Since this update our bot server see's lots of choppy behaviour/motion, so much
so I had to remove them. The server runs fine and runs smooth with 32/32 real
players though with bots present its pretty bad. I'd assume somethings is
obvioulsy wrong... prior to the update all was fine. For now our BotWars server
is now basically an achievement server.

Thx for listening ;)

The beta has just been removed and HL1 + Ep1 Engine updated with the changes
 (but it wasn't announced).

 2010/7/8 Robert Whelanmrrjwhe...@yahoo.com

 Hey Jason/Valve,

I know this is an old topic and the CSS beta was never closed being CSS
 went on
to the Orangebox engine. However, I have a testsbox with allot of shared
 games
and while running the updatertool on hl2mp I noticed the associated beta DS
 files rolled back now.

Updating 'Source Dedicated Server' from version 100 to version 99
 79.82% downloading c:\srcds\bin\steamclient.dll
 87.86% downloading c:\srcds\bin\tier0_s.dll
 100.00% downloading c:\srcds\bin\vstdlib_s.dll

Being this beta would benefit other existing Source games shouldn't it be
released? On my game rig games like Fortress Forever or HL2DM would still
 seem
to benifit from this crash exploit fix.

I'm loosing track now of how many times I've asked about the status of this
 beta.

 Thx

2010-07-09 Thread Alfred Reynolds
We have released a beta update for Half-Life 1 Dedicated servers. To get this
beta run the hldsupdatetool with -beta hlbeta on the command line.

This beta fixes a crash exploit in the dedicated server caused by a malicious

2010-07-09 Thread Spencer 'voogru' MacDonald
While they are at it, please put in an option to force connect even if the
server is full. (basically just issue the connect command), lots of servers
have reserved slots and a force connect option would be awesomesauce.

If I have to send valve a case of beer and doughnuts to get it done
delivered by strippers in sexy nurse outfits, I will.

Then it would just say server is full if the connect button was replaced.
But of course an option in advanced multiplayer options would be nice for
this feature. I am running out of room on the main menu for my custom
connect buttons!

  Random crashes here too.
I can tell it's different from our normal crashes (that is crashes
caused by our plugins) because the server comes immediately back up
after 20 seconds. When our plugins cause a crash the server hangs and
has manually to be restarted.

[hlds] Team Fortress 2 Update Available

2010-07-09 Thread Jason Ruymen
A required update for Team Fortress 2 is now available. Please run
hldsupdatetool to receive the update. The specific changes include:

Team Fortress 2

 - Fixed an exploit that allowed Engineers to build level 2/3 mini sentries.

 - Fixed a bug that allowed sapped buildings to be picked up by the Engineer.

 - Fixed a bug where Wrangled level 3 sentryguns would still fire rockets when
they were out of ammo.

 - Fixed a bug where players would go into reference poses when switching
classes while carrying a building.

 - Fixed seeing the changeclass label in the spectator HUD when using
cl_hud_minmode.

 - The amount of revenge crits a player can have at one time is now capped at
35.

 - The Wrangler no longer shows the shotgun's ammo count.

 - Engineers can no longer pick up buildings while stunned or in loser state.

 - Fixed Engineer shotgun and piston not using team skins for the Engineer's
arms.

 - Fixed an issue where Wrangled sentrygun effects wouldn't be attached to the
sentrygun.

 - The Gunslinger 3 hit combo now only increments the combo count when hitting
enemy players.

 - Fixed a crash in the control point progress bar.

 - Fixed a server crash in the player death code, related to building carrying.

 - Fixing performance spikes that occur at round start, and after each point
capture, when TFBots are present in the server.

 - Achievement fixes:

  - The Rio Grind achievement limit is now correctly set to 50.

  - Fixed a typo in Six-String Stinger achievement name.

  - Fixed a bug in the Death Metal achievement that caused it to rapidly
complete itself.

  - Fixed getting the Six-String Stinger achievement without playing the
guitar.

  - Fixed sentrygun detection code in Best Little Slaughterhouse in Texas
and Deputized.

 - Missed notes from yesterday's release:

  - New response rules and sounds added for some classes
