In advance of selling my 240D to a coworker I went through all the receipts I have and added them up. In the last 48,000 miles and 1 month short of 3 years it cost me right around $6,500 not including fuel but that does include the purchase price. So that seems like around $.0135 a mile. IIRC

Actually, diesel engines flew many, many hours in German aircraft during WWII. Horrible to start in cold weather, and low on power, but they staggered into the air and droned on. Main drawbacks have always been low hp/weight ratios, not efficiency. Peter
