Dear All,
I am still intending to compile a list of everyone's suggestions
and post them back to the group for comment. Also going to try to form this list
into a database on egroups/yahoo if practical.
Currently up to my neck in paid work though. Please be patient, and keep
posting
Some more items to add to this thread:
- (Pcb Server): Add support for the text strings within Coordinate and
Dimension items to be in a mirrored state. This would support such
Coordinate and Dimension items being produced in an unmirrored state within
printouts being produced in a mirrored state
My suggestion, which personally I rate at the top of my list,
is the following:
Currently, not all layers are created equal. In particular,
the handling of the silk sreen layers and the mechanical
layers in the DRC is different from that of signal layers.
I want to apply DRC rules (where appropri

Edi,
I can customize the way a power object appears while in the tool-bar (by
editing the .BMP), but my custom bitmap doesn't appear when I try to place
the power object. The default Protel power object is placed.

I was reminded again today of the old Tango complete route command. It was
assigned to the forward slash key and it would interrupt the current route
and reduce the display rat's nest connection line to track. It really

Yes.
My suggestion was intended to offer a graphical means of association for
the auto-placer within the schematic entry. Basically the 2D pictorial
based preference generator would just automatically generate a component
class db.

Brian,
Have you seen/used component classes (or 'rooms')? They provide some of the facility
you're describing, although not as flexible.
The idea of having both preferred and disallowed areas for parts is interesting. To
make use of this additional information,
though, one would need an autopl
I second that.
Actually anything that would homogenize the user interface between modules
would be welcome.

I agree. It would be better to have schematic power object symbols in separate
library file and thus, fully editable.

re split planes -- change PCB so that the plane layer must be the CURRENT
layer for the split to be editable. (How often do you edit the split,
compared to ALL the other parts on the board!)
I just did my first design that had one of these, and being CONSTANTLY
prompted to choose between the spl
All areas -- more consistent feature set, menus, and shortcut keys across processes.
Some examples:
1) SP6 greatly enhanced the text editor, but someone forgot to update the shortcut
keys on the Edit menu -- they're still listing
the old Win3.x keys; fortunately the standard ones (Ctl+C,V,X,Z)

Here's another for the list of improvements to the core app, ie, next version
In Schematic, PCB, and their associated library editors (at least):
Allow the user to select and maintain their own default, global workspace
characteristics by use of global preferences selections, instead of forcing
Another improvement to add to the list; its nature is such that it would
almost certainly have to be provided in a new version, rather than in
another SP for the existing version.

or centre justified, as alternatives to

I agree although I currently use a MS IntelliMouse to do this. Not as
smooth but works fine.

Here are some of the silly things in Protel which could be (in my opinion)
improved.
Tab order in the global editing boxes changed from down then across to across
then down

This directive would essentially be a generic design rule override. It
