Problem solved. There was a pointer to mysql in /etc/ld.so.conf that pointed to the wrong place. Correcting the pointer and recompiling mnogosearch didn't help. I ended up removing the pointer, uninstalling mysql completely, reinstalling it again, and then recompiling and reinstalling mnogose
