I think what you did is correct. This sounds more like an event, than a
reminder.
In the calendar app, if you'd like, you can have 2 notifications before the
event. Notify you the day before, then 2 hours before, for example.

Unfortunately, I can't even add mp3 files into this folder anymore. I used
to love to add things this way, but now they just sit in the folder, neither
going to the "unable to add to iTunes" folder or into my library. Any ideas

People who send messages from their GMail account do not see their messages on
list. Although I use my GMail account for this list, I send using a different
SMTP server just so that I see my own messages.

Hi Ramy, check the switch on the left side of the phone above the volume
controls. This mutes the ring and all other sounds, even the clicks in
voiceover when navigating. I could not figure this one out for a while
