Mike, I have used Pac(ific) Bay rods for years with very good success. I
also use quite a few other Pac Bay components. I do think that the St.
Croix SCIV makes an excellent rod especially in 5 wt and lighter. Many

I always suggest one size heavier shooting head, especially with 30 footers;
therefore I'd use the ST9 with your rod. You'll have an easier time loading

The freeze-thing is a great idea--I'll start doing that myself! In
addition, put some of those cedar blocks/chips like you do in a
closet/sweater drawer in with your stuff. I had some beautiful
sable watercolor brushes some years back
Most dyes/inks from color printers are water soluble. You might want
to experiment with some sort of non-water based clear varnish or
epoxy to make sure the neither the ink or the clear label base
doesn't dissolve.

I was up in that area last year. The lakes that I went to are: High-hume
(sp). Bager lk. and Cummunity lk. the last two are just north of Kamloops
dropped off pretty dramatically since.
With the north fork of the Wallace River flowing through them, I
wonder if the former planter population has become self-sustaining?

Several months ago I read an article or 2 on the newest and best thing to
come along for catch release fishing. They called it circle hooks and one
of the articles rated the various brands that had come onto the market at
that time
and
it remains my favorite small trout rod in my continually growing
collection of Loomis, Orvis, Sage, and Thomas Thomas rods.
What makes the St. Croix an even better value is that it costs about
half of the otherwise comparable top name brands. I only wish it came
in a 4-piece version.

dry fly cast close to shore can tempt even the most bugger-wary fish

not a price protected product and it's margins are pitiful, this is why you
won't find it in a flyshop, 99% of all products in flyshops are price

I don't fish often enough for wear to be a big problem. I wear
neoprene socks *inside* to keep my feet warmer in cold water (and
fill out those monster stocking feet.)

There's been a couple of suggestions to wear neoprene socks for keeping feet
warm and reducing wear on stocking

nymphs, streamers, etc. When the flies in a vest box run low, I stock
up from one of the larger ones. When the flies in the larger boxes
start to run low, it's time to tie some more.
