I'm sad again.... :( Belinda can you add Jake to CLS

2006-11-03 Thread TatorBunz

Hi all,
I had to put my 17 1/2 yr old Siamese
to sleep today. My daughter called me and said that she thought Jake may have to
go to the Vet. He wasn't acting right. He kept falling down and throwing up. I
called them and got him right in. He was going into cardiac arrest and liver
failure.
He was crying which he never does.
I took him to my regular Vets I knew he would suffer if I hung
on to him.
They said he live a good life with me. That at this point there
wasn't anything they could do for him. He started having problems back in August
with his health. He was lying on his side and breathing hard when I came home
today. He smelled foul. Then he starting throwing up and his bowels were
releasing.
He was quite the gentle man. I let him go with
dignity.
Bless his soul he will be met by Dukee at the
bridge

Belinda can you add Jake to the
CLS...thanks!

Boy, this is getting tough on me. I'm trying real hard.

My husband doesn't know yet.

Dukee's Vet Records...Got them!

2006-11-02 Thread TatorBunz

Hi all,
Funny how fast they responded when I
had the letter of request delivered to them. Told them I had direct contact with
the Veterinary Board of WA. (with Belinda's help of course)
Amazing!
I can assure you I will drive the extra miles to see my regular
Vets from now on.
I got a call around noon time to tell me they have the copies
ready for me.
It was the same person that refused me the first time when I
requested them prior. I told her my business will not be back. Told her she was
rude that don't talk down to people that she doesn't know anything
about.

Anyway, the records of what I'm reading shows that he had Liver
failure on top of having Hyperthyroid from all the blood work they
did.
So I put the blame on the other Vet for not running the full
panel blood-work.
Apparently he died during the night since we have no way of
knowing.
The attending Vet called me shortly after they had opened that
morning.

As I type this the Vet's office has gotten the letter of
request.
My daughter delivered by hand and in person to make sure they
did get it.
They can't say they didn't get any letter from me.

She would be my witness.
Hopefully, they will follow through if not sh+t will hit the

Vet Records

2006-10-31 Thread TatorBunz

Hi all,
I ask for the records on Dukee they
won't release them to me. They said the only way they would release them if
another Vet requested them. Then it would be by fax only.
This is the first time I have ever been turned down getting any
Vet records.
Is this right?
I can tell you I'm getting disappointed in some Vets in the

Update Re: Vet Records

2006-10-31 Thread TatorBunz

Wow, I lived in TX back in the early 80s up until 91 never had
a problem with getting my Pet Vet records either.
Especially since I was moving back to WA.
state.

Just to let you know I have spoke with a person of Veterinary
Board. She told me to write a letter of request and that they have 15 days to
get to me since the services were rendered and paid in full.
She gave me the Washington rules and laws along with what
Belinda sent me.
If they don't comply or if the records appeared tampered with
to file a complaint with them.
Something doesn't feel right about this. I think they aren't
being honest with me on what happened to Dukee. Then charge the amount they
did.
God, I will be so upset if this is the case and will file a
lawsuit against them.

Re: Vet Records/Morbid question

2006-10-31 Thread TatorBunz

My husband thinks Dukee died the same day he had the surgery
and they wanted to make the bucks for having him over the
weekend.
He is using some curse words right now. Not a happy
camper.
I just told him about my experience with the Vet trying to get
copies.
Normally, don't tell him everything unless there is a
need.
Didn't want to start anything.

I have a question and probably morbid:
Is there anyway they can find out how longpet has
been dead before they are returned back to their owners.
I know they can on humans.
What I think is funny is that he was put in a Science Diet box
and it was tape very well. You would have to use a knife to open it. I didn't
open the box to look at him really didn't want to see him that way. I wanted to
remember as he was. Maybe I should have.

SAMe (Denosyl) for Dukee

2006-10-29 Thread TatorBunz

I have a question:
How do I give Dukee SAMe (Denosyl) when he comes home when he
is on a feeding tube? I noticed it came in tablet form on my
research.
One thing I did noticed on him when I popped the cans of wet
food for the cats he still came in and took a few licks of the food but not
enough.
He has always done this.
So when I feed the others when he gets home he will hear this.
So how do I refrain him from eating their food if he is on a special
diet?
Will he be able to eat their food on top of his
food?
I also feed my cats snacks?Dukee knows
it!

Sorry for stupid questions but gotta ask!
Boy, I know I'm going to have questions for you guys on this
tube feeding.
I don't want to be overwhelmed when the Vet hits me with this I
want some firsthand knowledge from you guys. So it's preparing myself and my
family. I certainly don't want them doing anything to jeopardize his health even
though it wouldn't be intentional.
I have never done it before! Yikes!

UPDATE:Dukee 10/28/06

2006-10-28 Thread TatorBunz

Dukee is at the clinic as we speak.
Believe me I rushed him A.S.A.P. when I got the call
back.
Please pray for him and send him positive
energy!

"I had one of the Techs tell me also that he may not make it.
That I needed to think quality verses quantity on him that I should put the
money on the kitties that may need it. I told her we had thought of
that."
That is he does have FIP at least we are trying to help
others.
At this point I don't care!
I'm having a hard time to compose my self. My heart is breaking
and trying to keep from crying is one of the hardest things to do especially in
the public eye and at home.

For those of you that don't know about my Taz go to his link
below under Pet Memorial. You will see why I'm skiddish about any kitty being
put under.

Dukeedeserves this since he has been fighting to stay
alive this long.
I thinkthe Techrealized what she says to me doesn't
make a damn to me and to you guys. If he does make it I will be overjoyed but if
not it will be part of a learning lesson for those of us on the list. I will get
all records and any information to help others.
The Veterinarian will do a panel and the tube inserting along
with medicated intravenous feeding.
They will keep Dukee over the weekend in which I'm not

If someone has a sick child who needs very expensive medical care, would
anyone tell them that the same amount of money could save 30 children dying of

no one should ever get expensive medical care for themselves, their kids, or
their animals, because the same amount of money could always be used to buy
simpler, cheaper life-saving care for other humans or animals in other
places. There is of course logic to it. But love has its own
logic, and the truth is that no matter what we do we can not save
  everyone.

So it is good that the tech saves many animals over a few, in her own
life, I guess. But it is nonsensical, as well as inappropriate and
ineffective, for her to try to convince you to do the same. While she
may save many, she obviously has never loved one in quite the way the way that
we have, in a way that explodes logic and just creates a fierce need to
protect them and maintain their life and happiness.

If she tries to say anything to you again, tell her you have different
priorities than her, and a lot of love for your individual animals.

curing Dukee – if he does have FIP – and your vet does not know it – so please
do – I cannot say this enough – it has saved lives of dying animals from FIP –
feeding tube and IV is only supportive –the interferon I sent to you is
anti-viral and will help stop replicating the virus --- please trust me on

She will not euthanized him unless in dire need. She has

So the records will be sent by fax to her.
The Vet that diagnosed him wants $36.00 up front for
euthanization.
I'm not trying to hang on to him or be selfish
either.
But I thinkwe should have another opinion on

UPDATE:Dukee's Vet Appt

2006-10-27 Thread TatorBunz

Okay all here is the news!
Just got home awhile agoyes I do have him
home.
At least now we have something to go on but not much
better.
He has Liver failure and very jaundice.
This Vet did a thorough work-up on him.
She said at this point because of his color she didn't need to
take blood from him the fact that he is anemic. He has a fever of 101 which
means it's down from 103.8
He has lost more weight. He was 8 pounds and now is 7.4
pounds.
She also said he has lost all of his muscle
mass.
She did say that he did need to be fed by a tube. Since force
feeding will not work because it may make him sick.
She said there aren't any guarantees that this would work on
feeding him through the tube because of the liver damage. The fact is he has fat
on it.
There was an ultra-sound done it showed his liver
damage.
I would do this in a heart beat if I could afford it just give
him a chance.
We don't have any credit cards. We just don't have the funds to
help him this little guy. Time is very critical here.
So he will remain here and live his time out for however time
he has left.
When I see the pain and the horrible cry he will be taken in
A.S.A.P.
So we don't know how long he has...will try to make him
comfortable.
I have included the estimate of what it would cost through
her.

She said that because of the percentage being high on the
Titers that it is probable having FIP. That the liver damage is a cause of
FIP.
She did take a sample of his blood and sent it out.

At this point it wouldn't make any difference on his
results.
But warned me that she is siding with FIP on this. He has too
much damage in such a short amount of time and the fact he is very jaundiced. As
I stated she did ultra sounds and I forgot to add that he had xrays done as
well.
She could feel his some of his organs. They were
swollen.
I know I'm not giving the information you would like to hear.

If he has the tube in him he will get a complete workup done on
him Vet made a point of saying that to me.
My husband isn't home yet I will ask him if we have the funds
to do so.
He will probably crap his pants since we just recently paid off
the original Taz's medical bills. ($5000.00)
Vet's office doesn't have a payment plan.
But he is a cat lover and does love Dukee. I guess I will wait
an see if we can do this.
I'm frustrated as well and very tired.
I just want to do what's best for Dukee and make him
comfortable.

friends and family that we care so much about. we all deal with it in
different ways - the best we can. i've been through more than my share
of sad times from two bitter divorces to loosing a child...loosing dear cat
people and loosing people close to me that i love. i deal with it by
keeping them alive in my heart. this poem may be written in archaic

  We Are Seven
  William Wordsworth

--A Simple Child,That lightly draws its breath,And feels its
life in every limb,What should it know of death?I met a little
cottage Girl:She was eight years old, she said; Her hair was thick with
many a curlThat clustered round her head. She had a rustic,
woodland air,And she was wildly clad:Her eyes were fair, and very
fair;--Her beauty made me glad."Sisters and brothers, little
Maid,How many may you be?""How many? Seven in all," she saidAnd
wondering looked at me."And where are they? I pray you tell."She
answered, "Seven are we;And two of us at Conway dwell,And two are gone
to sea."Two of us in the church-yard lie,My sister and my
brother; And, in the church-yard cottage, IDwell near them with my
mother.""You say that two at Conway dwell,And two are gone to
sea,Yet ye are seven!--I pray you tell,Sweet Maid, how this may
be."Then did the little Maid reply,"Seven boys and girls are
  we;Two of us in the church-yard lie,Beneath the church-yard
tree.""You run about, my little Maid,Your limbs they are
alive; If two are in the church-yard laid,Then ye are only
five.""Their graves are green, they may be seen,"The little Maid
replied,"Twelve steps or more from my mother's door,And they are side
by side."My stockings there I often knit,My kerchief there I
hem;And there upon the ground I sit,And sing a song to
them."And often after sunset, Sir,When it is light and fair,I
take my little porringer,And eat my supper there."The first that
died was sister Jane;In bed she moaning lay,Till God released her of
her pain; And then she went away."So in the church-yard she was
laid; And, when the grass was dry,Together round her grave we
played,My brother John and I."And when the ground was white with
snow,And I could run and slide,My brother John was forced to
go,And he lies by her side.""How many are you, then," said
I,"If they two are in heaven?"Quick was the little Maid's reply,"O
Master! we are seven.""But they are dead; those two are dead!Their
spirits are in heaven!"'Twas throwing words away; for stillThe little
Maid would have her will,And said, "Nay, we are
  seven!"

2006-10-27 Thread TatorBunz

Okay, I have decided to go forward and have the tube put in
Dukee of course with help from a "Good Hearted Member" of this group.

God Bless You!
My husband stated that he deserves the chance after we had a
long discussion.
If all goes well he will have it done in the
morning.
I have high hopes that he does well...I'm praying anyway.

I do have to admit I'm a little skiddish putting a kitty under
even though it won't be for long. Because of what happen to
Taz.
Thank you all for your support on this it means a lot to
me!
Now, I gotta get some much needed rest and check on

As I sit here I'm crying my eyes out having problems typing
this to you all. My husband keeps checking on us see how we are doing. We are in
my computer room with his best buddy "Vinnie".
I have soft lights, food and water along with their beds in
here.

Can anyone tell me what tranquilizer to give to help him to the
Rainbow Bridge? Otherwise I will wait until early morning to let him
go.
So this will be a long night for me.

He is crying and very weak. He has never been one to cry. He is
such a good boy just like my original Taz. Poor guys have never done anything
wrong in their lives. God they are about the same age too when it was
time.
God this is so heartbreaking!
I have given him his doses of his meds and the Interferon
nothing is working for him. Force feeding isn't a option here because I don't
want him throwing up what little he has eaten.. I have given him everything I
can possibly think of even cans of Tuna with juice.

I think it is his heart since I did mention he hada heart

I have also included another kitty with us which is Buggy my LH

She is washing him right now as I type

I have told Dukee that if he wants to go it is okay and if I
have to I will help him go to the bridge.
I will be close by to my computer so I can do my business and

Dukee's tests....Hideyo...Appreciate your input and help on this!

2006-10-23 Thread TatorBunz

Hi Hideyo and everyone,
Sorry for not getting back to you sooner. I've been trying to
gather more information up about this and working to make a little
money.
I spent an hour with a couple of Vet Techs at the Vets office
today. They in fact called the lab (Phoenix Central Laboratory) up to get more
information on the testing. They ask what his level was they said it might not
be FIP then it could be. There was no clear answer on this. So the Vet Techs got
out some new Vet books that have been published in the last year they are going
to put some literature together to give me.
Dukee continues to eat and drink water. He is using the litter
box.
He hasn't thrown up only the one time I saw it. He is still
purring. He isn't playing not even acknowledging catnip in which is his
favorite.

I did find out what tests were ran on the blood they took. This
is the results but it's not what I wanted to see. I had thought he had a
total blood work up. I'm not taking him back outside and stressed him out
more.

TEST NAMES

Test Name: Feline Viral II
Negative
Test performed by Elisa
*There is no antibody test to date that differentiates between
infected and vaccinated cats.
*Vaccinated cats will have positive antibody responses
indistinguishable from that of infected cats for at least 1 year post
vaccination.

FeLV ELISA
Negative

FIP SCREEN:
TITER IS 1:6400 or greater
Interpretation:
Positive titers are not diagnostic for FIP.
Although FIP titers greater than or equal to 1:6400 are more
often associated with clinical FIP, titers less than 1:6400 and negative titers
do not rule it out.
(Negative 1:100)

Please do send me some!
I have never used this before so I'm blinded by this. I'm not
ready tolose Dukee.
Vinnie is doing better. Which I'm glad to say your prayers are
helping.
I will agree with you all on this so-calleddiagnosis of
FIP.
Which I don't think he has. He doesn't show any of the classic
signs of it.
What do you need as for payment for this Infereron? Where can I
order some? Can I purchase from you? How do I give it to him? Is this by mouth
or by IV?
Sorry for all the questions.

His appetite is decreasing and water intake as well.

He continues to go downward.
His results are back hehas testedvery high for
FIP
My Vet is so sorry to tell me this. He is a good man as he has
lost some of his own personal kitties to this horrible disease as
well.
He said to give him lots of good food and love.

He does "Not" euthanize kitties unless it's permitted by the
caregivers.
Dukee is being distant with us but when we sit with him he is
still purring.
All he wants to do is sleep.
I have told my Vet that when I see he is uncomfortable I will
bring him and let him go to the Rainbow-Bridge.
He said he tested negative for Felv/Fiv
I will get the lab results in a bit and post to you guys so you
can read it.
My Vet has told me to treat all as if they are
FIP
God almighty this is just horrible!
Vinnie goes in a bit...he appears to be doing well in the last
24 hours.

He uses this term on URI's as well.
Use with caution and don't bring others into the
home.
Quarantine kitties inside. (which mine don't go
outside)
Give good diets.
Clean litter boxes
Keep everything sanitized is what he said.
He said he figures Dukee had been expose when he was a baby
before I rescued him. Then when his heart started acting up this was a start of
everything. Suppressed Immune system.
Vetis really sympathetic on this.

This is which I do anyway. I clean house every 2 days with
bleach when mopping floors. I scoop litter boxes several times a day. Dump every
2 days.
The test results indicate high titers in which is possible for
FIP
I will pick up results when I leave in a bit.

Hi guys,
Please wish my boy "Dukee" luck. He is
going in to the Vet today for vomiting clear fluids and losing weight like
crazy.
He has been tested for Felv/Fiv in the past. He was
negative.
He is a Ragdoll mix was a rescue of mine when I got him at the
age of 5-6 weeks of age. He is now 3 years old.
I don't need this right now on top of losing Sam back in March.
This has been a crappy year for us with our move and all. I'm sure a few of you
remember my disaster moving to my property.
Please send your awesome prayers and thoughts our
way!
Thanks!

Thank you so much for saying that.
It hasn't been the same since losing them.
I miss both Sam and Ling. Sam was only 2 yrs old and Ling was
16 yrs old.
Both Tazzy and Vinnie are still with me. They are spoiled but
in a good way.
I do have other Siamese but couldn't get them to stay on the
couch.

P.S.
I want to add that I rescued a 17 and a half yr old Sealpoint
male.
The family was movingg
They had this guy since he was a kitten. This really irks me
something fierce. This is one of the reasons why I don't like people in
general.
I knew darn well nobody would adopt him because of his age.

So I took him home and he will live his time out with
me.
He has became my granddaughter's kitty. He sleeps with her
every night on her pillow.

Daughter's Kitty...CLS

2006-10-02 Thread TatorBunz

Belinda,
Can you add my daughter's kitty "Gutt"
to the Candlelight Services?
My daughter's name is Julie. Gutt was 8-9 yrs old. He was an
awesome Maine Coon mix I adored him ever since he was a
baby.

I had noticed that he was acting strange and losing weight. He
was losing control of his hind legs. Also, loose bowels and the fact that his
zest for life was gone he was crying. I had also noticed this for the last few
days was hoping he had just a bad tummy. This was so
sudden.
My gut feeling was he had a mass growing and thought it was a
tumor.
He lost 3 pounds in the since last month. (She weighed him
every month)
I told her he needed to go to the Vet A.S.A.P. so she called
was able to get in to seeone of my favorite Vetsthis
evening.

Sadly to say he had a huge mass the size of a baseball growing
in stomach. My daughter decided to let him goto
the"Rainbow Bridge" because she didn't have the
money to pay for added expenses due to her divorce and being a single parent.

She told me that she wanted him to go peacefully and his
quality of life is what mattered not quantity. She wasn't thinking about herself
only about him she didn't want him to suffer.
She didn't want him to endure all the medical treatments with
his chances being slim of survival. I'm proud of her for making that decision
even though it was hard on her.

My husband and I would have helped her in this matter.

She didn't want him to suffer.
Julieloved him with all her heart.
So she brought him home and we buried him next to "Sam" that I
lost back in March. My husband dugged the hole for him. This man had recent
shoulder surgery but it didn't matter. He loved Gutt as
well.

We read the Rainbow Bridge and a prayer to him. Laid him to
rest.
We all hugged and cried in each other arms.
This was about an hour and a half ago.
My husband also said that he was going to build a special fence
around the area we have for all the futurefurangels that pass on to the
Rainbow Bridge.
Yes, we have a Pet Cemetery on our new property.

Which is under a beautifulmaple tree.

Thanks for hearing me out...
:(

My husband is the same way.
He is very supportive of what I do and with my rescue. He is
such a big baby when it comes to the care of the cats/kittens. He is the first
to rush them to the Vets and say do what you gotta do to help them. He also
knows when it is time to let them go to the bridge it is time he does
notlike the suffering. He compares it to him that he doesn't want to
suffer so why should they.
As long as the bills get paid he is a happy camper!

Totally agree!

(climbing up onto big bargain size soapbox)

I think a harsh mental picture is what more people need to have. If more people cringed, we might live in a world that was more apt to protect animals. The fact that anyone on this list wasn't aware of any of those issues in itself speaks for the lack of animal abuse education in our society. Cringe away... have nightmares... cry... then go out and MAKE A DIFFERENCE! Lobby for harsher animal cruelty laws, lobby to have the states that require shelters give unadopted animals to research facilities change those laws (the term is called "pound seizure, I believe), Lobby to end animal experimentation or to at least stop allowing class B dealers (also known as "bunchers"). Picket, get out and hold a sign. We live in a wonderful democracy (those of us here in the USA) but it doesn't work if you don't use it, so WRITE your representatives and urge them to sponsor bills to tighten animal cruelty laws and change the ones that effect animals in a bad way. Visit your local high school, and colleges, and see if they dissect cats or use animals in any of their labs, and if they do, urge them to stop, picket them, hand out flyers to all the students about all of the alternatives available these days. Write a letter to the editor of your local newspaper. Just make a difference. Until now, some of you may have been unaware, NOW, you are not. Before, you didn't know, so things happened around you without your knowledge, NOW you know, and you have the power to try to effect changes. That's what activism is, you see a wrong, and you set out to make it right. It's that simple. Now you just simply have to start caring enough to take action. I'm not saying you don't care when I say that, I'm saying, from my own experience, it takes a LOT of willpower to take the time out of your busy life to actually DO anything to make the world a better place. No, it doesn't just happen, and no, others wont do it for you. So when I say you have to care ENOUGH to take action, I mean that you have to PUSH yourself to DO what needs to be done, because it's really easy to take a neutral stance in life, and let everyone else run the show, but it takes time, energy, and determination to go out and do it for yourself. WE, you and I, are the voice and protectors of the animals we rule over in our society, to give them voices, we have to put aside our own, and make room for their message in our lives, then, we have to go out and spread the message, because what good is a message that no one hears?

Every tear I shed, though they may be many, is far outnumbered by the numbers of animals that suffer in our world, and my tears, though they may fall, will never make a difference in anyone's life but my own, and that just isn't enough. If only I could collect a dollar for every tear I cry, and give it to the cause that made them fall, then, perhaps, my sadness would be justified in itself. Actions speak louder than tears.

Oh my heart is breaking on this young baby!
You did what was needed for the baby and remember she loved you. She knew you were trying to help her. I am glad that she died at home and not at the Vet's office alone.
She was a beautiful kitten. She will send another furbaby to you when you don't expect it.
The day will come when the two of you will be together again.

 You were not rude!
I would have said the same thing as you.
Yes, you did the right thing I certainly agree with Sherry.

P.S.
I wanted to let you all know I haven't been able to respond due to my computer crashing. I lost my Favorites which contained all my animal medical sites so will have to start all over again.
Thank god I still have my photos, documents, and folder/files. Will be making another back-up again.
So I'm off to Circuit City to look at another computer since this one I'm using is slow and it's old. Husband said it's time for a new one since this is a 2001 model and very well used for my business and rescue.

I hope all is well and pray for the ones that are ill.

 Hi All,
Every once in a while I get people who post to the Adoptable FeLV/FIV/FIP and put free for the fee, it clearly say's at the TOP of the page this is not allowed, so I send them a drafted letter which I'm copying below with the reply I got from the person I sent it to. Please tell me if my letter is rude because that obviously isn't my intention and I don't want to scare anyone away BUT I do want them to realize how dangerous it is to post a pet for FREE. My letter follow below:

Hi Kathy,
Belinda here, I admin the ads, and there are no "Free To Good Home" ads allowed, none is the same as FREE. This is very dangerous for the cat, there are all kinds of lunatics out there.

I don't think you want Tiger to end up being ripped to shreds by a Pit Bull in training to fight, or to spend his last few minutes on earth petrified while a snake squeezes the life out of him and devours him. Or maybe a sick, demented person who scours ads daily looking for an animal to torture and beat until they tire of them and finally put them out of their misery by killing them. Then there's the buncher who looks for free or cheap pets to take to labs where they are experimented on and then killed when they have served their purpose, these bunchers get anywhere from $30 to $100 dollars a pet from these labs.

Giving an animal away FREE is very dangerous for that animal and I personally would rather euthanise a pet than take a chance that they could end up in some horrible situation like those I described.

I get emails every single day about some poor pet that has endured horrible things until they finally died or were killed. I have even been told by some of my rescues how a whole family will come to look at an adoptee making them appear quite normal, only to find out later the pet was tortured again and again until it finally died or was killed. Please, please be very, very careful who you hand Tiger over to, he is depending on you to make sure he is safe when he goes to his new home!! Thank you.

I'm not saying this to be mean, believe me I know these kinds of things happen a hundred times a day to innocent animals. I've changed your ad to negotiable.

Please read these links for more info about how dangerous this is for the cat:

http://www.theanimalspirit.com/adopt.html

http://www.petrescue.com/library/free-pet.htm

http://www.parrett.net/animalaid/free.html

I belong to a group of people who are all owned by FeLV+/FIV, most if not all have other cats who are negative. Some let their cats mix some don't, it's a personal preference thing.

I personally had 6 cats, my Bailey was my FeLV positive, he was + at 5 months of age. I just lost him last month to anemia at 11 years of age, he wasn't sick for all of those years. I just lost him in May after a 5 month illness to what turned out to be cancer. He lived, ate, slept, played with, groomed and on occasion had spats with all his vaccinated, negative housemates for all those years and nobody ever got it from him. It is almost impossible for a healthy, adult cat to get it from a positive and if they ever did the healthy adult cats immune system would fight it off.

The bottom line is it isn't as contagious as most vets would have you believe. AND FIV is even less contagious and harder to give to another cat as it takes a deep bite wound to for it to be even possible to transmit it from one cat to another.

ion and bell get louder, until I finally identify their source. There, in the last cage at the end of the line, is a tiny black kitten, batting a plastic jingle ball around its cage and purring at the top of its little kitty lungs. Ah, I think, this must be the calico's brother. Imagine that, a black male cat. His antics amuse me, and I find myself stirred by his show of life. But then, as if propelled by some counter-magnetic force, I turn abruptly away from his cage, searching in earnest for what I really want. Except that, now, compared to the vibrant little one, the other cats seem even more lifeless, like four-legged zombies or feather dusters on sticks. The purring and jingling black kitten emanates a presence that tugs and beckons, reeling me in. Come see! Come see me! And so I do. "Oh my, little one. What are we going to do?" I ask out loud, quietly, as he rubs against the bars of his cage, leaning toward my touch. As if on cue, the attendant appears and says, "Want to hold him?" "Okay," I breathe, knowing all the while that I am losing my grip on something and sinking fast. Not into quicksand this time, but into something softer, darker, more comforting, like the sleek black velvet of this little one's body in my arms. As the kitten crawls up my jacket and against my neck, purring loudly into my ear, I read the sign at the side of his cage: Black male cat. Purrs like a motorboat. Name: Muggins. I am not making this up. "So, what do you think?" grins the attendant, holding the cage door open. "I think," I say through my tears, "this is my cat."Reprinted by permission of Mary Knight (c) 2004 from Chicken Soup for the Cat Lover's Soul by Jack Canfield, Mark Victor Hansen, Marty Becker, D.V.M. and Amy D. I agree that poem is beautiful.
I have it in my files. When I bury a furbaby I read this to give me some comfort. Butit still hard though.
Surprisingly I don't know it by heart. Some things just don't register in my brain.

Letter From Your Pet In HeavenTo my dearest family, some things I'd like to say.But first of all, to let you know, that I arrivedokay.I'm writing this from the Bridge. Here I dwell with God above. Here there's no more tears of sadness. Here is just eternal love. Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out ofsight.Remember that I am with you every morning, noon andnight. That day I had to leave you when my life on earth wasthrough,God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcomeyou. It's good to have you back again, you were missedwhile you weregone. As for your dearest family, They'll be here later on."God gave me a list of things that he wished for me todo. And foremost on the list was to watch and care foryou. And when you lie in bed at night the day's chores putto flight,God and I are closest to you... in the middle of thenight. When you think of my life on earth, and all thoseloving years, because you are only human, they are bound to bringyou tears. But do not be afraid to cry: it does relieve the pain.Remember there would be no flowers, unless there wassome rain.I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned. If I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand. But one thing is for certain, though my life on earthis o'er.I'm closer to you now than I ever was before. There are rocky roads ahead of you and many hills toclimb; But together we can do it by taking one day at a time.It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for youtoo; That as you give unto the world, the world will giveto you.If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain; Then you can say to God at night..."My day was not in vain."And now I am contented... that my life was worthwhile.Knowing as I passed along I made somebody smile.God says: "If you meet somebody who is sad and feelinglow;Just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way yougo."When you're walking down the street with me on yourmind;I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind. And when it's time for you to go... from that body tobe free.Remember you're not going... you're coming here to me.-Author Unknown
