Sometimes this is not what tileset authors want. It should at least be possible for a tileset author to specify that the darkness sprites be drawn on top of everything else, as the original submitter requested (but this will require care to ensure that bits of sprites outside tile boundaries are suppressed to avoid a repeat of bug #21539). (I think it would be reasonable for hex2t to use this mode, for instance -- or not, either works.) Would it be just as easy to let the tileset author specify between which two layers darkness is drawn, of which the status quo and above-everything are special cases? Since dec-2013 there is an updated version available with modpack-tool called v2.4-5, that includes some of the changes that I listed here, but no important fixes, so I think you are save using v4 as base for your games. [Freeciv-Dev] [patch #4460] civ2civ3 ruleset update to v6
Follow-up Comment #3, patch #4460 (project freeciv): I'd appreciate if civ2civ3 development would really happen as part of freeciv development, instead of being drawn in as big lumps. Especially you should make it as a patch from the beginning (i.e. have to version to match against). One patch per logical change. I know that one change can be rather big in ruleset development when you replace one implementation (remove it) with another one (add it) keeping gameplay balance (other changes), but this update seems like you're changing multiple concepts at once - each should be separate patch version control commit for people to be able to work on them on more granular level. What is the freeciv version control revision against which this new version is made? So that if we put it in, what recent changes would get overwritten (patch wouldn't do that, but would warn about conflicts if changes in your tree and freeciv master are not compatible). Don't take my criticism on procedure too negatively though. We definitely want your excellent work on developing the ruleset in. Nobody else has the vision of the ruleset you do, and what it takes to make and keep it balanced. ___ Reply to this item at: http://gna.org/patch/?4460 ___ Message sent via/by Gna! http://gna.org/ ___ Freeciv-dev mailing list Freeciv-dev@gna.org https://mail.gna.org/listinfo/freeciv-dev

[Freeciv-Dev] [patch #4460] civ2civ3 ruleset update to v6
Follow-up Comment #4, patch #4460 (project freeciv): I understand what you say, and I'm here in part to learn the procedures you use to develop freeciv. But it is hard for me to find the best way to procedure when I have to work on so many versions of the ruleset, when only the latest one is being versioned here: -v2.3 is optimized to be played with an earth scenario that is not included here in gnu due to author rights issues, so I share it in the forum. -I also verify that my v2.3 is compatible with android app that is also not versioned here. This app is still using freeciv 2.3.1 as base, that I know. -Finally, I send you a pack periodically to be shared with modpack-tool, where I do not want to continually break compatibility of people playing previous versions of the rules, so I thought it'd be better to join my changes in big packs, that I always test for balance. -v2.4 is the current released freeciv, where civ2civ3 was not versioned, and I have always released the same packs than v2.3 with the same rules, adapted to the new features of 2.4. -This version have been used online in Longturn games and currently in Greatturn games too, with some modifications that I try to take into account for my changes. -Now that v2.5 is being versioned here, I would also like to develop it the way you describe, but at same time I want to introduce all the changes that were already tested in previous versions, and until now I have done it by sharing a big .zip so you decide the best way to commit them to the repository. If you think it is better that I create little diff patches with single logical changes in them, I can try it. -Then there is the Trunk version that I have never tested, nor I have adapted the ruleset for it, so I'm not aware of the changes or new features, and I did not know the best way to introduce the changes from previous versions. I guess the objective would be to introduce all the new changes in TRUNK one by one, then to test them all when it comes the time to create a new release. The problem is that I have always developed this ruleset the opposite way: first I test a newly released version of freeciv, and then I introduce the changes needed to adapt the ruleset to the new features and the new behavior of the AI. That is what I just made with S2_5 rev#24276 (sorry, I forgot to say), and the result is this patch. Said that, I'm up to adapt my work here so civ2civ3 can be fully integrated in freeciv development. ___ Reply to this item at: http://gna.org/patch/?4460 ___ Mensaje enviado vía/por Gna! http://gna.org/ ___ Freeciv-dev mailing list Freeciv-dev@gna.org https://mail.gna.org/listinfo/freeciv-dev

Update of bug #21576 (project freeciv): Status: In Progress = Ready For Test ___ Follow-up Comment #5: Your listing shows also 'default.lua' that will cause problems with newer freeciv versions (that one gets used instead of correct defaul.lua in default/) Maybe you should also make a habit of 'make unistall' before installing new version, so files that are in old installation but not in new installation (not overwritten) are not left behind. For S2_4 my proposed fix is to copy default/nations.ruleset to multiplayer/ and experimental/ so those copies get found instead of what ever version there happens to be in system directories. Or should we always have such a stub file whenever a fallback to a file in default/ is desired? This future-proofs against arbitrarily distant futures. (If so, I guess we might want stubs for default.lua as well? -- that's slightly different in that I think you're never meant to have a file called default.lua in your ruleset, but always fall back to the provided one.) ___ Reply to this item at: http://gna.org/bugs/?21576 ___ Message sent via/by Gna! http://gna.org/ ___ Freeciv-dev mailing list Freeciv-dev@gna.org https://mail.gna.org/listinfo/freeciv-dev

[Freeciv-Dev] [bug #21576] gtk2 client assert with multiplayer ruleset
Follow-up Comment #12, bug #21576 (project freeciv): I think the default.lua is the opposite (or maybe both-ways): Before ruleset specific script.lua was split out of it, every ruleset had the default.lua. So I think Christian now has multiplayer/default.lua from an ancient version even when playing modern version. However, we cannot simply always use default/default.lua, but a ruleset must have an option to define one itself. While we try to keep default/default.lua as generic as possible, it doesn't work for all kind of rulesets. So there might be default.lua in a ruleset that currently hasn't (it's somewhat likely in case of alien ruleset if we don't make default/default.lua to much more dynamic in its behavior) I'm not sure how include in .lua would work. As for what we support, I think user is responsible to uninstall before making new install. The problem is having one version installed (presumably stable release) and developing/running development version from build dir. Then the development version sees files of the installed version in FREECIV_xxx_PATH. So I think stubs should be present when ever recent release has files that may cause problems for running from the build dir. It's then the definition of recent that we're missing, but as a Debian user I count at least package in current stable (but not oldstable) Debian and anything newer as recent. And yes, I now realize that the original bug does not count as 2.4.2 blocker by these definitions. It's only when 2.5.0-beta1 gets released when S2_4 *development version to be run from build dir* must have stubs in place. ___ Reply to this item at: http://gna.org/bugs/?21576 ___ Message sent via/by Gna! http://gna.org/ ___ Freeciv-dev mailing list Freeciv-dev@gna.org https://mail.gna.org/listinfo/freeciv-dev

[Freeciv-Dev] [task #7762] Windows packages for 2.4.2
Follow-up Comment #2, task #7762 (project freeciv): If no library upgrades, it may still be worth doing another Gtk3 test build if it's cheap for you -- cazfi speculates that maybe fixes in Freeciv code (bug #21534) might help. I've uploaded new test builds to http://download.gna.org/freeciv/packages/windows/testing/S2_4-r24327/ Can't say if there's a difference, in any case it's still noticeably sluggish. ___ Reply to this item at: http://gna.org/task/?7762 ___ Message sent via/by Gna! http://gna.org/ ___ Freeciv-dev mailing list Freeciv-dev@gna.org https://mail.gna.org/listinfo/freeciv-dev

[Freeciv-Dev] [patch #4460] civ2civ3 ruleset update to v6
Follow-up Comment #6, patch #4460 (project freeciv): That is what I just made with S2_5 rev#24276 (sorry, I forgot to say), and the result is this patch. If you've made the changes to files in svn, then creation of the patch should be as easy as saying svn diff civ2civ3v6.patch But as there seems to be no changes in S2_5 civ2civ3 since r24276 I just copied your files and created the patch between S2_5 HEAD and the it. Could you please check that this patch has correct changes? I'll try to apply it to TRUNK too. [Freeciv-Dev] [patch #4460] civ2civ3 ruleset update to v6
Update of patch #4460 (project freeciv): Status: In Progress = Ready For Test ___ Follow-up Comment #7: Attached is a version for TRUNK. It took some work to solve the conflicts while applying the S2_5 patch, but nothing where it would have been unclear what should be done. - Changed README.ruleset_civ2civ3 to speak of Freeciv v2.6 - One thing that I had to manually port, and which seems to be missing from your changes list is removal of UnrestrictedInfra flag from the River. In earlier versions movement via rivers on enemy territory was not restricted, now it is. [Freeciv-Dev] [patch #4468] Rework road gfx tags
URL: http://gna.org/patch/?4468 Summary: Rework road gfx tags Project: Freeciv Submitted by: cazfi Submitted on: Sun 02 Feb 2014 09:07:13 AM EET Category: general Priority: 5 - Normal Status: Ready For Test Privacy: Public Assigned to: None Originator Email: Open/Closed: Open Discussion Lock: Any Planned Release: 2.5.0, 2.6.0 ___ Details: With the extras work on TRUNK, and having other extra types to have prefixed tags, plain road names as tags seem inconsistent. They are also the only tag type where hardcoded prefix is added to it. Rework this for both TRUNK S2_5, so that tileset author is not required to make them in one form to 2.5 and then again update to 2.6. - Supplied rulesets use prefix road. for road gfx tags - Hardcoded prefix r. is removed from tilespec.c for those sprites for which it existed - Old r.c_%s_%s and r.d_%s_%s formats have been rearranged to %s_c_%s and %s_d_%s respectively so that the ruleset tag is always in the beginning of the tileset tag ___ File Attachments: --- Date: Sun 02 Feb 2014 09:07:14 AM EET Name: RoadTag.patch.bz2 Size: 6kB By: cazfi http://gna.org/patch/download.php?file_id=19938 --- Date: Sun 02 Feb 2014 09:07:14 AM EET Name: RoadTag-S2_5.patch.bz2 Size: 5kB By: cazfi http://gna.org/patch/download.php?file_id=19939 ___ Reply to this item at: http://gna.org/patch/?4468 ___ Message sent via/by Gna! http://gna.org/ ___ Freeciv-dev mailing list Freeciv-dev@gna.org https://mail.gna.org/listinfo/freeciv-dev
